It looks like they are actively working on the interior - based on the two pallets of countertops in the parking lot, but the outside definitely gives off dirty unkept vibes. All the trees have been cut down so there are just stumps, no landscaping, all the landscape beds are full of weeds and a stack of matresses are piled in front of room windows. And in general the smell of the property is not great.

The front desk staff was incredibly helpful. They did not have an elevator or a first floor room available so they helped carry our luggage up and down from our room. We were travelling with a 1 month old so the pack and play was heavy for us since they did not have infant cribs available at the hotel. The pool is indefinitely closed I think. I had trouble with the vending machines because the system would not take my card but eventually they did work. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. Our AC/heater was quite loud but we turned it off as we did not need it and that solved the issue. We were in a room facing the highway which was a little loud but it did not stop us from sleeping. The grab and go breakfast was sufficient to meet our needs. Our stay was only one day and thw location between Des Moines and Boone was exactly what we needed.

The up keep looks like no one cares. Holes in the doors from damage and missing hooks. Half the light bulbs in the bathroom were burnt out and the heat lamp bulb was missing and the knob to turn it on removed. Weird stuff stuck to the bathtub.

Ac is kept off in rooms until guest turn them off. It was so hot and humid in the rooms that we had it at the lowest temp and highest setting and after an hour it was still miserable. Honestly was cooler outside than in the room when I got the keys. I was told it’s a hotel policy as per management.

I was looking for an inexpensive, no frills, clean room in a safe neighborhood. That's exactly what I got.

Everything was clean and well maintained, although interior hallway lighting was a bit dim.

The staff was very friendly.
This is a neighborhood of motels with a selection of take out and eat in restaurants within a block of the motel.

The north side of the building is amazingly quiet in the evening considering how close it is to a street. I don't know about the side of the building facing the parking lot and US-30.

Basic, but comfy.

We needed something very basic, but clean and comfortable. That’s exactly what we had with this property. Pre check in was smooth through a text message. The staff members were polite and friendly. No problems getting another key when we (oops) left ours in the room five minutes after we arrived. (Guess our drive took a bit out of us.)
Though it was terribly cold outside, the room stayed nice at 60 degrees. The bed was firm, with clean linens, and quite comfortable.
Did not use the TV. Ample supplies, except for cups for water. Since we had our own, we didn’t ask for any.
Eco friendly, had we stayed more than one night, our sheets and towels would not have been changed unless we asked.
USB plugs in the lamps—more places are including these now! 2 thumbs up!
There was a refrigerator in the room, but it didn’t get cold enough for our use. Ice bags that we tried to refreeze overnight were only half done. Forgot to mention that at checkout.
Breakfast, nothing special there.
Very quiet, with easy access to the highway. We slept well! We will return when the need arises. Thank you so much!

Ive stayed at this hotel before a few years ago. I don't know if its under new management or what but it has definitely gone down hill since the last time I've stayed there. The property is starting to look a little run down, the pool looks like its been out of operation for a while, poop stains in the toliet. It was a cheap room so it's fine but i would not bring my family here.

The staff was really nice but its very dated. Needs alot of work. The pool was empty which was disappointing. Doors slamming part of the night. Breakfast was microwave sandwiches and hostess donuts. Owner obviously doesnt spend much money to upkeep the property. Needs major renovations. Parking lot needs help. Room was clean but chips in the bath tub probably leaks into the floor. I ordered a suite it wasnt just a couch in the room hardly qualified as a suite. Even the building itself was cracked and falling in. Would not go there again many nicer motels next door and across the strest. Baymont has gone to hell.

Dirty rooms and hallways. When we were cleaning up I asked front staff if we could have a couple extra minutes and they said yes I said I should be out by 30 mins after. 5 mins after checkout they were banging on the door and waiting for us. I was trying to do a quick clean before they came in as I wasn’t feeling good and wanted to do a quick clean of my germs. But when you have someone standing at your door trying to get rid of you. Absolutely disappointing. Not to mention the beds were extremely uncomfortable and the pillows looked like kid pillows.

Cyclone White Out Football trip

We've stayed here before (August) for moving my son back to college. Price was double+, I'm guessing because it was a football weekend. The room needs some upgrading/taking care of. Large single chair was dirty, and the bathroom had several flaws. Toilet seat beat-up, baseboard with kleenex box needed some repair/paint job, as did the outside corner of bathtub. These items didn't cause us to not enjoy our trip, but for the price we paid, expect more.

Immediately when we got there I had a bad feeling about this hotel. The outside was sketchy. I go & check in and get a room. Front desk guy was a little weird. I get into the room, it’s dirty, smells heavily of smoke (I requested nonsmoking), beds are wet, there is a dead bug on the desk, bubble gum stuck in the bathtub, and what appeared to be a camera stuck to the TV (that’s what my husband said, I never looked). It was awful. Never again. Ames isn’t a great town to begin with, and then to top it off this hotel was terrible. Save you’re money & time because this place is worthless.

I read some reviews for this property and had no expectations. After staying, i was very pleased. Everything was clean and in good condition. The breakfast area was clean, well stocked with your basic breakfast foods at a hotel like this, was fresh and good.
If I had to complain, the tissue box in my room was empty. I'll take that as the only negative every time.
For the price, this was a great experience for me.

The guy that checked us in was not very nice. I felt like he was very unprofessional. He came off as he didn’t want to be there.

Sitting in the lobby, a couple walked in to check in as well, and the guy at the front desk gave The customer a room key to a room somebody was already staying in. Which made us feel super unsafe.

The lobby, parking lot and area around the hotel was immaculate. The bathroom tub was a little dated. The room was clean.
It would be nice if they cleaned the pool. The dirt ring around the pool was about 3” wide which tells means the just add water and the floor of the pool was slimy.

Very disappointed in this hotel. The beds were uncomfortable. The staff was uninterested in being helpful (couldn't be bothered to get me an additional shampoo. Just looked in two drawers behind the front desk and then said they didn't have any. Similar situation when asking for the apple juice dispenser to be refilled at breakfast). Our room had a dirty shower curtain and our friend's room had a dirty comforter...and a floor so slanted that the drawers to the dressers kept opening! The breakfast buffet was VERY limited. Lots of lovely hotels in Ames...I won't stay here again.

The room itself was nice. The staff was not very helpful and didn't seem to understand my requests. We could not get the TV set to work and they said they would send someone at the next staff change, at 10pm! Also, the breakfast area was super dirty and the coffee was \"frozen\" and couldn't be served. Breakfast started at 6 and at 9 the coffee was still frozen???
