There was good and not so good about our stay. We had to wait over 20 minutes to check while the staff member tried to resolve issues with another guest. That was unfortunate but understandable, but I was never acknowledged and when I was able to begin, was abandoned to another guest before completing. Was never told anything about the property including breakfast location and hours or spa location and details. The next day tried to ask the same staff member how to get to the spa and was told she didn’t have time!

The good…breakfast was very good and plentiful with a nice assortment of options, our room was as spacious with a nice view. However, the light in the hall didn’t work so it was very dark. The second night we were there we happened to discover that while our bathroom window was frosted, at night you could see right in when the light was on. Since the bathroom faced the parking lot and the toilet located in the window, guests should be aware!

This was the best hotel during our journey through Germany and Austria. Checks all the boxes for excellence. The room is large and very convenient with all the amenities. Views of the Rhein Gorge from the large windows are really spectacular. Their breakfast also has plenty to choose from. Their staff at the front desk and the dining area are nice and very helpful with smiles. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend.

Love This Incredible Place!

It was all PICTURE (amazing views) PERFECT (see attached photo of the view from our room). The restaurant…we had two dinners and three breakfasts. It was all divine. The wait staff was very professional.
Overall an incredible property. If it is on your radar as a “maybe”, then you need to book it and make it a “definite”!

The setting of this hotel is stunning, and we had a balcony overlooking the Rhine. Quiet, elegant and relaxing! Currently there is extensive work on the adjoining Castle Rheinfels, but this was not disruptive to the hotel. Lovely breakfast buffet is served in the restaurant with fabulous views of the Rhine. Front desk staff is welcoming and helpful.

It's a magnificent hilltop castle with luxurious accommodation. But it's really reasonably priced too.
I have stayed there a few times, visiting from UK. Great weekend break.
Views are amazing.
Formal restaurant is a bit pricey. But breakfast is amazing. Highly recommended

The hotel commands the most awesome position, overlooking the Rhine (best take a taxi up, with your cases, depending on your fitness!). The staff were unfailing friendly and helpful. The room was lovely and sorted each day. During my stay it was very hot (for the British, anyway!) and I asked for a fan to help me sleep - no problem. Breakfasts - awesome. Small but comfy rooms and bathrooms, but that is to be expected on the grounds of an actual castle. Very lovely ambience and decor. Breakfast is spectacular all around; food, service, and view. For those on foot, reaching the castle/hotel will get your blood pumping but it’s an old world charm.

A truly amazing hotel in a historic castle

We had the most amazing stay, in fact, the best stay in our one-month trip in Germany. Our room was in the villa and opened up to a wonderful view overlooking the Rhine. It was grand, palatial, with a high ceiling, beautifully decorated, and extremely clean. Service was excellent at reception and restaurant. Everything was thoughtfully provided, including tea n coffee making facilities, bathrobes, high quality toiletries, and even bedroom slippers. We felt pampered like royalty, and really couldn’t have asked for more.

Room was hot and without AC but when you open the window there was a lot of wind which fixed the issue and there was no bugs. Food at the main restaurant was expensive but okay with the exception of the dessert that were to be honest bad.

This place doesn’t answer their phones. We tried to call them to get cab from city and they didn’t answer. There were no cabs on street at 5pm. We had to walk and carry luggage up a hill that made my lung disease even worse. They are terrible for people who have disabilities. And have terrible evening customer service.

I loved everything about this place. Castle has changed over the years. You use to have more access, but was a bit dangerous. New museum is a plus, on site souvenirs. Close to fabulous town. Great views.

We stayed here for two nights and it was beautiful! Our room had an incredible view of the Rhein and we loved waking up to the sunrise over the valley. The majority of the staff also spoke English, which was very helpful for us, especially when we visited the restaurant for dinner. I will warn guests that there are a number of stairs, so make sure you keep that in mind when booking.

Nice hotel. Right on the Rhine river. Up on a hill, so not easily walkable from the town below. Pool, Sauna and steam rooms were quite nice. Breakfast was above and beyond.
Janine was amazing. We were traveling with a couple that had never been to Europe and wanted them to have a view. They did and She upgraded us as well. Very nice

Lovely hotel with excellent views and quality food

Lovely accommodations adjacent to an historic castle. I stayed in a single room on the 4th floor (a.k.a. \"attic space\") which was perfect for a solo traveler. This compact room offered excellent views of the Rhine River too. One thing about the 4th floor though, you will have to walk up from the 3rd floor as there is no elevator service to the 4th floor. If that is an issue, then simply book a room on the lower floors. The restaurant is excellent but can be busy, so reservations might be necessary on weekends during high season. Breakfast is included and superb. Additionally, their popular outdoor patio cafe with views of the river is ideal for lunch and/or drinks.

One caveat though: Sankt Goar is a small town and there is only one taxi service available. Should you need a ride to the top of the hill then it will cost you nearly 5 euros! While there is a 3 euro shuttle bus available, it runs only from 10:00 until 17:00 -- after that you are on your own. And trust me, walking up the hill with your bags is a challenge -- been there and done that. Down the hill is easy though.

The hotel is housed in a 12th century fortress on a high bluff overlooking the Rhine River near the Loreley. It is truly a one-of-kind experience. My wife and I stayed at the hotel on our honeymoon and again recently for our 30th anniversary.

Tranported to a fairy tale land!

Stayed here on business as it was close to where I was working. I would love to return for pleasure. I felt that I was living in a fairy tale land for two days! I did not have enough time to explore enough and most local restaurants were closed; however well recommended.

Burg express (shuttle service)to castle was not available on the day we went. Cab up to castle from gas station was €5. Cab from castle to sankt goar train station was €5.30 by metre. Neighbourhood is a quiet town in winter. No portal service in castle. Need to go down and up and down by stairs to exit train station. No lift and no portal service in castle. Castle staff did not know anything about Rhine river cruise for tourist. Did not give Wi-Fi password during check in and can't give through phone. Need to carry luggages 2 floors down to room. No coffee/tea making facilities in room. We did not bother asking for kettle too. Staff not proactive to show us table at restaurant for dinner after we asked for English menu. She just walked away without saying anything. We helped ourselves to a table but was asked to move to another table subsequently without apology. Staff was more interested to reset table which we barely touched than to pass us the English menu at the new table. Food was nice but expensive. Breakfast staff was more friendly and at least smiled when we asked for eggs to be cooked at the egg station.

This hotel is set up high with beautiful views of the Rhine. It is an older structure but quite unique. There is a lovely bar/patio with viewing of the Rhine River, the breakfast is outstanding, the other amenities are quite nice as well. The standard double room is not that large and the rooms face either west.... very hot with the afternoon sun and no air conditioning, or east.... and there is a vent that is on the roof blowing out hot air. So perhaps spend a bit more and go for a deluxe room if you stay here.

Fourth time staying here... LOVE this place!!

Beautiful, ancient, stone castle with tasteful, modern amenities. Great location above the KD dock where we boarded a ferry for a three hour cruise up / down (??) the Rhine. Delicious breakfast with a wide variety of selections and a good view of the boats on the river. Relaxing pool and sauna area. There is a nice outdoor patio serving drinks that I have yet to experience... Next time!

Lovely hotel - avoid the rooms above the smokers!

The smoking room was below the two rooms we were staying in and even though the rooms are ‘No Smoking’ the smell is really strong. I would not recommend anyone who suffers from asthma to stay in these rooms. Hotel is lovely and has wonderful views.

Not so romantic

Although the service was good the hotel is a little tired. Also although in a good position with lovely views of the Rhine it is next door to a tourist spot which is actually separate ie the the ruined castle Rheinfels. The Schloss Hotel provides a shop and cafe to attract these tourists so is not necessarily a romantic spot. However having said this the ruin is one of the best we have ever been to.

Freundliches Personal. Übrigens hervorragende Bedienung im Restaurant!! Das Trinkgeld hier fiel nicht zu knapp aus, super Leistung, ein tolles Team. Unser Zimmer war allerdings wenig einladend – sehr schlicht (nichteinmal ein Bild an der Wand) insgesamt eher lieblos und erinnerte mehr an eine Abstellkammer. Dazu muss ich natürlich anmerken- Ich hatte ein günstiges Vielreisenden-Upgrade über Expedia genutzt und vermute daher, dass mir ein weniger attraktives Zimmer zugeteilt wurde. Verständlich aus Hotelsicht 😉 – Rabatte sind für Gäste verlockend, für den Umsatz aber sicher weniger.

Das Feeling einer Burg zu haben, war super. Das Personal war freundlich. Leider wurde die Bar jeden Abend früher geschlossen als angegeben, so konnten wir die Terrasse mit einem entspannten abendlichen Wein nicht genießen. Das Restaurant war mir für diesen Anlass zu laut. Die Sauna war super. Das Poolwasser leider deutlich zu kalt, sogar für meine morgendliche sportliche Schwimmrunde.

Leider entsprach das Zimmer in keinster Weise dem Bild des Zimmers bei der Buchung. Klein, sehr einfach ohne Charme eingerichtet. Bad sehr klein ohne funtionierende Entlüftung.
Das Essen im Restaurant war schlecht bis mittelmäßig und dafür völlig überteuert. Ein recht schöner(jedoch sehr kleiner )Wellnessbereich, eine tolle Aussicht von der Gastronomie aus, nettes Personal aber alles in allem nicht den Preis wert

Alles in allem war es ein wirklich schöner Aufenthalt mit einer wunderbaren Aussicht 😊
Klimaanlage auf dem Zimmer wäre schön gewesen weil es bei 30 Grad doch sehr warm wird.
Beim Frühstück ist für jeden was dabei und der Wellness Bereich ist auch super schön.
Ein paar mehr Liegen wären super

We vonden het overnachten in een voormalig kasteel een leuke belevenis. Mooi hotel en vanuit het restaurant had je een prachtig uitzicht over de rijn. Ook het zwembad en de sauna's zijn een bezoekje meer dan waard.

The room was lovely, which is in the castle.

Breakfast was very delicious and the view from the restaurant was wonderful!!!
