Fabulous stay, greeted with a very warm welcome. Give information about the area and information about the facilities. We arrived a few hours early and were shown straight to our room. We had a triple room with plenty of space for us all, it was cosy and warm and the beds very comfy. The hotel is perfectly situated for sight-seeing. We took a 2 hour Segway tour from a shop 3 minutes walk from the hotel, which showed us all key sites. Plenty of restaurants, supermarkets and fast food options within a couple of minutes walk. Breakfast was good and we were offered the option to leave our luggage for the day. Shuttle bus to the airport is 6 minutes easy walk away.

The hotel needs repairs , holes in the ceilings of the lobby , wires hanging down , smoke detectors hanging from the ceiling as well. After four days the same items kept coming out for breakfast

Excellent location for the price

The hotel is a stone's throw away from the town center, with lot of options for food, entertainment and transport. The property seems old, which is perhaps why the cleanliness of the room left something to be desired. If you can look past that, excellent choice for the price.

Stayed only a couple of nights but if I go back to Budapest. I would stay here each and every time. The staff are warm and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The room wss comfortable and clean and also more spacious than most. Breakfast is available and I can highly recommend the food available. Special thanks to the conceirge staff who wwre fruendly and very professional. Nothing was a bother for them and they made my stay there even more enjoyable.

Very rude staff. No change of towels after 4 night stay. No lift and had to pay for staff member to take my case upstairs. Charge for left luggage (after 10am). No kettle in room (again an extra charge). 1st breakfast started at 7.30 and not a minute earlier! Would not stay again.

Very centrally situated. In a pedestran street, so no traffic abount. Bad point is there is no lift. So you have to lug your cases up two or three floors to get to your room.

The radiator was on full blast when I walked into the room when it was 25 Degress outside and when I switched it off, the radiator constantly made a hissing sound throughout the night so I didn't sleep well. Also, the paperwork states check out is 11am however Reception told me it was 10am

Location is the key to this hotel. It’s literally in the centre of the city and we were able to walk to all the main sites and shopping areas without any need for using taxis or public transport. If your after a cheap place to stay in a premium location then the hotel is perfect. The breakfast is as expected with a selection of pastries, cereals, cooked eggs and sausages tea/coffee etc nothing fancy but we found it enough every day. I couldn’t fault the cleaning in the room although the room itself is a little basic and whilst I get that it’s not expensive it wouldn’t take a lot to put some complimentary tea/coffee or upgrade the lights a little in the rooms just to raise the standard. The staff were all really helpful, the guy at breakfast was always very polite and works away to keep everything stocked, the desk staff were good too, we had a couple of little requests that we made whilst we were there and they were genuinely helpful and looked after us.

To sum up, if you want somewhere ideally located but don’t want to pay the premium prices this place is perfect, it’s a little simple but you get what you pay for....

The location is excellent and the price very reasonable. The staff were lovely and helpful. The only thing that would really help would be a general upgrade - there were stains in the bathroom, the toilet seat was not well-attached so slid around, there was a plug in the centre of the headboard(!!) and I have not stayed in a hotel where the room locks with an actual key since 2003... Don't get me wrong, I would very much recommend the hotel and I am sure I will be back in a few months... it is just showing minor signs of age and it would improve the hotel no end if they were fixed.

The staff were very friendly and all spoke excellent English .We were not charged for a safe deposit box or a hairdryer. We had to vacate our room at 11 am but our flight was not until 20.15 . The staff were quite happy letting us leave our luggage in a storeroom

I can deal with it for the price

Upon arrival, the staff was very rude and refused to let us check-in 15 minutes before the 3pm time even though the room was ready. The lady made us wait in the lobby while she sat at the desk and did nothing for 15 minutes. Then gave us attitude while checking in. The drapes were too small for the windows and did not provide for full privacy at night. Despite the unpleasant staff and the fact that it is outdated, the location is perfect, situated close to many attractions.

Stay away from this place.

I already told you about this "non-stay". I never checked in because they did not have air-conditioning (as advertised). It was 30C* and the room smelled like smoke (my wife has asthma so we absolutely couldn't stay). We requested refund, so we were told to go through Hotel.com for the refund (5 nights plus breakfast). They denied the refund to Hotel.com. Very unprofessional management.

The hotel did not adhere to the terms under which I booked this place. They turned off the air conditioning and the room temp was 30c* with no possibility to open a window. The room also smelled like cigarette smoke. We did not check in (my wife has asthma issues), had to find another hotel where my wife could breath. So we requested a refund (we paid for 5 nights plus breakfast), which the Pilvax hotel declined. Very poor, unprofessional business practice, I would tell everybody to stay away from this venue.

I would never go back there. I booked it based on their promise of air-conditioned rooms. On September 12 they shut down the air condition system. My wife (who has asthma issues) were ready to check in on September 13 just to find out that the air is off. we couldn't open the window so the room temperature was around 30 C* and the room smelled like cigarette. So we told them we cannot check in and left for another hotel. I asked for refund (517.65 for 5 nights plus breakfast) and they told me that I have to go through Hotel.com (the company I used to book this hotel). I did just that, but Hotel.com told me that Pilvax hotel already received the funds and they refuse to issue a refund. To me they did not adhere to the terms of the agreement and it's hard to believe that they would flatly refuse to deal with this issue. It' almost a joke that they didn't even mention that we also pre paid for breakfasts (which we obviously did not use). This place is about as unprofessional as it gets. Stay away from them.

The staff was wonderful, they go above and beyond with directions and customer service. The room was very clean and excellent hot water with a lot of pressure in shower. It was hard to keep the room temperature right, was too hot or too cold, and since there's no elevator you can hear people arriving throughout the day/night (thud, clink, thud, clink echoing). convenient location, good breakfast with fruit, a variety of eggs, cheeses/meats, many pastries, coffee/tea/hot chocolate, cereal, including a few local things. I recommend unless you have trouble with stairs and luggage, or if you're a light sleeper.

Every night some taxis and drunken laughed loudly til 3 or 4 am under our window. When told every am to reception diffwrent staff they never dis much. Said oh maybe just last night. Im so tired back. They were drilling most day til late infront too. We were on 1 st dloor. Gorgeous view of alleyway and lights and a cafe. But noise. Breakfast is a bit shabby and tacky. You can do much better even opposite cafe and we did ith the same money. Staff nice friendly. More information from them helps when asking about trams bus etc. Kettle was given ri me. Hairdeier too which is kind but can be put free for rooms with coffee tea. I had mine to use.

The hotel is very basic and the decor is dated. Having said that, it is very clean, comfortable and ideally situated in central Budapest with most attractions being only a 25 minute walk.

Breakfast is ok if you want to keep your travel costs down but there are plenty of cafes if you want choice.

The staff are lovely and helpful.

While the hotel in itself is good and well located, the noise at night coming from drunk folks in the area is really a bit too much. That has been the only low point of my stay. The hotel itself is pleasant, the staff extremely helpful, and the offer for breakfast was very good.

No aircon!

Despite being advertised as air conditioned, the hotel only turns on the air conditioning for the summer season which apparently starts mid-June. So if it's 29 degrees at the of May it's pretty grim.

On top of that the window is dangerously low and you have to sign a disclaimer saying you open it at your own risk. That makes it completely unsuitable for families with children.

Other than that the hotel was clean but very dated. The location is good.

Simple hotel

This is hotel is great if you're never going to be in it. It's very simple and basic, based on the price paid. I had restless nights as outside people would just be shouting as the hotel is located on a rather Main Street. Regardless of the noise, the hotel is situated right in the centre in Budapest and the river and many shops can be located with ease.
The hotel did not look like the photos that were provided remotely,which I was disappointed at. Our sink did not work and some of the lights were faulty.
The room itself was ok like I said if you weren't going to be in it.
The only other thing that put me off was when you left the building, you had to leave your room key behind. This panicked me and everytime I left I made sure everything was locked up just in case.
We got charged for the missing of 3 towels which we took to the thermal baths with us and did not return as they were soaked and we had no carrier bags etc. So make sure you put any towels back in your room !!

Weather was decent lots of fog! The city was amazing very pretty, great looking area that's very clean and well looked after unlike some other European capitals. Lots to do stayed for 6 days and didn't get bored! Also not too hard to go for a quick day trip to Vienna!

Nice quiet hotel in central Budapest

I was travelling with a companion, mostly by train, and transit.The hotel was an easy subway ride from the main Budapest train station. The personnel was very friendly and cheerful and helpful. The room was basic but clean.Getting the luggage up and down the spiral staircase was a bit of a challenge, as the hotel has no elevator.

There was mold around the shower on numerous places, the tile in the bathroom looked as if it had just been moped with water if at all since there was filth around the tiles and the toilet was very old and wasn't very clean. The room smelled a bit of mold, was dusty and the rug was very old, worn out in places and a bit dirty. Also, the bed linen had small spots on it of questionable nature and the mattress was too wobbly. The only good thing about the room was that it had AC and it didn't even work all that well but it did hide some of the smell in the room. The staff were pleasant but not overtly friendly, although they did get us a good taxi that wouldn't rip us off for the ride back to the airport.

Hotel staff were friendly and breakfast was reasonable, although if you go down after 9.00 most of the hot buffet has gone and they don't put more out. The best thing about this hotel is how central it is, literally a walk up the street takes you to the river where there is plenty of restaurants and bars! Across the street there's a little supermarket. Turn right out the hotel and you can find the bus stops for the hop on hop off services which takes you to all the popular sights!

Downside to this hotel is the cleanliness, there was a fair bit of dust and hairs in the shower. Also this isn't a 24 hour hotel, we had an early flight home and had to practically break out the hotel to leave due to no member of staff being available.

Good for location, no good if your a light sleeper

Overall this was a good place to stay. Location was good but Rooms at front of hotel were noisy. Also rooms needs maintaince. Faulty switch for bathroom, shower head broken
We asked to be moved to another room and was quoted but similar items needing maintaince.

This hotel is in an excellent location on a very quiet street, yet just a short walk from the main pedestrian mall in central Budapest. It's very clean, but dated. There is no elevator, so beware if steps are a problem for you. Also, the wi-fi was terrible. But breakfast was great, and we slept very well in a quiet, comfortable (old) room.

Some fundamental Services Absent

Booked the room several months in advance. Arrived with back pack and large bag. No lifts , so I was required to carry both bags up two flights of stairs. There was no offer of help with at least one bag. Allotted room was the furtherest from the stairs.Room was situated above the entry/exit door for Jack Doyles Irish Pub. So Thursday/Friday nights a lot of commotion around 1-3 am. The hotel had only a few occupants but I did not complain because the management would have known the circumstances around the room and , perhaps, priced the room accordingly. To my mind there wasn't anything special in the pricing.
Room was clean but run down ( 1 shower door off runner, shower tap missing H/C identifier, curtains did not close fully- letting in outside lighting). TV channels were the normal ones... there was no extended coverage for sport/news/documentaries/history channels etc. Bed was basic "army" style...wooden frame, single mattress, bed that squeaked
In the dark..hallways were lit by movement sensor.Unfortunately, the light "thrown" didn't extend to the lock on my door. Therefore whenever leaving or arriving I had to search for the "key hole" in the dark.
"Cleaning " lady was thorough and thoughtful.
I was allowed to leave my baggage, after exiting room, until I picked it up. However, it is stored in the open without any security but perhaps a watchful eye.

Definitely not a 3* hotel

Hotel is clean and provides a decent breakfast however there is no safe in the room as shown on the pictures, only at reception which is really inconvenient. You can't hire it for your room either. Air con only works in summer time, I stayed in April and it was really hot,l and stuffy in the room but I wasn't able to turn on the air con. After asking in reception, the receptionist said she will see if she can do something but nothing was done. Hotel is in a good location so if you don't mind being extremely hot and not having a safe then go for it

Great location but very basic.

Arrived quite late at night but was still greeted very pleasantly by the receptionist. That said, after staying for four nights, I learned that this was hit or miss. Some staff were unhelpful and just plain grumpy.

Rooms, you certainly only get what you pay for. Very basic and clean to a reasonable standard. Adequate enough for me, but certainly nothing fancy. Walls are paper thin though, heard everything! Corridors could use a lick of paint and carpets not totally clean.

Location was very central, perfect for me. This said, it may be worth noting that it is very noisy in this street at night - not recommended for light sleepers.

Breakfast, pleasantly surprised by the selection considering how cheap it was. No complaints.

Overall, not bad. Not the luxurious option but decent for a budget visit.

Close to all the major attractions

Hotel Pilvax is well located for walking to many of Budapest's main attractions. It has, however, seen better days and looks a little scruffy. Our bathroom could certainly have done with a revamp and the beds were incredibly hard. One slight annoyance was that many of the rooms, our included, were above an Irish bar which had music playing until gone 3am during our stay. I suspect that rooms on the other side of the hotel wouldn't be affected by this and we were able to block it out with earplugs. I suspect it would be considerably more of an issue during a Summer stay when visitors may want the windows open during the night.

Having said that, the staff were very friendly and happy to help arrange booking for a Danube cruise. The buffet breakfast wasn't the best we've had but for the equivalent of £5 is was perfectly acceptable. Over all for the price we paid, I think we got good value for money.

Top location for Budapest CBD and access to the bridges on the Danube as well as restaurants, historical sites, etc. our room was above an Irish Pub, but we were never disturbed by any noise.

Excellent place

Loved our stay here, the staff were very helpful and friendly. The location was central to most attractions which was great when we needed to have a pit stop back at the hotel. Our room had a great view of the fountain and is on the same street , just across th road from the royal crypt and a fantastic restaurant Le Bol.

OK hotel, great location

Decent and affordable hotel in a fantastic location. Friendly & English-speaking staff, though I did see a woman complaining about the breakfast room lady (we didn't eat breakfast at the hotel, though... seemed pricey for the area). Our biggest complaint is the condition of the hotel: it's not run down or falling apart, but just "old" (not in a quaint/charmy way, either). The room AC was very weak, and Budapest was experiencing a brutal heat wave, so we had trouble sleeping until the heat wave broke.

Despite the hotel condition, the location is awesome! You're within walking distance of just about every major site in the city and just off the main shopping street, too. There's also a great cafe just around the corner, across from the Irish Pub, that had excellent breakfast and dinner. A grocery store is also across from the Irish Pub, but it had limited hours. There's a SPAR a few blocks away. A number of small bakeries are in the area, too, for quick breakfasts.

Don't know why it has high ratings?!

Having read so many good reviews about this hotel have to say I was disappointed with the service and the room. The hotel itself looks huge there was only one staff at the reception, as we were about to check in she did not greet us and was pretty occupied on the phone, we were given the room on the top floor and there was no lift. The room looked pretty box standard nothing special about it, the shower was old with a broken door, there were no amenties for the shower apart from a soap dispenser. The bed was ok however could have provide extra pillows. We booked the room that comes with breakfast which was again ok just a typical continental breakfast. The hotel provides tickets for many attractions that you can buy from them, this information was only discovered later on as the lady did not give us the welcome pack. The staff seems unfriendly and not much of a help even though the hotel was hardly busy. The only good thing I can say is the location that is walking distance to most major attractions. Budapest itself is a lovely place to tour around by foot, however bus tours/ hop on hop off are heavily advertised here, which in my opinion is unnecessary. We purchased a 48hrs Budapest card that allows you to use the trams, metros and buses, but we hardly use the public transport, as everything is so close by. Overall Budapest is a lovely city which I will come back again, however I will not stay in this hotel nor recommend it.

Great central hotel

We were greeted with cheerfulness which was welcoming after a long travel. The complementary breakfast was a great spread of wonderful choices. The hotel was centrally located and easy to find restaurants and shopping. I was pleased to have found this hotel since it was my first visit to Budapest.

Great Location

This hotel was in a great location. It was right in the city center but off the main street so it was very quite and relaxing. Would stay there again. Also it's pet friendly which was a big plus for us.

Basic but comfortable hotel, with friendly staff.

Perfect location for shops, restaurants and sights. Hotel is dated but staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms are basic but clean and comfortable, and despite overlooking the street we had no street noise. Room could of done with having tea/coffee making facilities though. Breakfast was choice of continental or/and scrambled eggs with bacon/sausages. Only thing missing was proper tea. There was a range of fruit teas or coffee! So if you like a cuppa in the morning bring your own tea bags!
I would happily stay here again as it is so convenient for getting around and seeing the city.

Christmas market weekend break

Went to Budapest for the Christmas market, on a weekend break. Hotel was very quiet, staff were very nice, and spoke good English.
Surprised there was no lift, and there was no bar downstairs, as there was building work still going on to complete it.
Room was clean and comfortable, although we had to ask for a hairdryer and extra pillows.
Also, there were no tea/coffee facilities in the room, which surprised us. Most hotels supply this, that we've stayed in.
We chose not to have breakfast, as we are not big breakfast eaters, and ate out.
Overall, a comfortable stay.

This hotel turned out to be the best for us I. That it is near all of the sights yet on a quiet, pedestrian street. The staff is friendly and the hotel is a great value.

Good Location for City Centre

Very friendly and helpful staff.

Although clean. the room was a little tired. The sealant in the shower, for example, was mouldy and needed replacing.

Being in the city centre, next to an Irish bar and opposite a supermarket, it was fairly noisy in the evenings until the pub closed and very early in the morning whilst the deliveries were being made. Closing the windows shut out the noise but the room became very warm and stuffy. We were there in October but the air conditioning is only available during the summer months. We found the mattresses to be a little too hard.

On the plus side, this is a cheap and cheerful hotel that is very well suited for a short stay city break - the Danube is a 10 minute walk away. Checkout is 11 am but luggage can be safely left in reception if the guests have a late flight out of Budapest.

Buffet breakfast is very good with hot and cold food. Tea lovers might want to bring their own teabags though because we could only see Earl Grey!

The hotel has a good, free, wi-fi in the rooms and public areas and a wired computer available for guests in the reception area.

On our last day, the hotel organised, at our request, a taxi back to the airport. The fare, in rush-hour, was 8100 HUF (October 2014).
