Authentic, loved property in the middle of where you want to be as a tourist. Once you get the entry situation figured out, it’s easy and you’ll feel like a native. Place was kept very clean and is comfortable and home-like. I stayed in the apartment with the en-suite bathroom and it was great. Kitchen seemed functional and well-stocked, although I only used the fridge. Judit the host is super nice, helpful, patient, and accommodating. I’d certainly stay again!

Spacious twin room and access to a well-stocked kitchen. The apartment was very convenient, and it was easy to access public transport and see the sights. It was also very quiet at night, so we slept well. Judit was a great host.
A great place to stay in Budapest, I would heartily recommend it.

Absolutely Wonderful Stay!

We had a fantastic experience staying here! The location is perfect—right in the city centre and easily accessible, which made getting around so convenient.

Judith, the owner, is such a lovely and welcoming host. She was incredibly kind, helpful, and full of useful information about the area, she even have us a map marking all the sightseeing places we wanted to see. You can really tell she cares about her guests.

The rooms were huge, clean, and very comfortable—much more spacious than I expected! I also appreciated the little touches, like the free toiletries provided in case you forget anything, and the fact that there’s a kitchen available for use, which made the stay even more convenient.

Would absolutely recommend and would definitely stay here again!

Everything was great here. Judit was a very hospitable host and the apartment was nicely prepared. The bed is comfortable and there is also a sofa, desk and full kitchen - all you need for a short stay. Everything was clean and the location was fantastic - next to the Astoria M2 metro station and close to Ferenciek Tér M3. Despite the city centre location the apartment was quiet and you can’t hear much road noise.

A really nice 4 day stay overall 😀

I had a great stay at Gaia hostel, lovely big clean room and easy access to the bathrooms. Judit is a fantastic host, really friendly with great suggestions about where to visit.

The hostel itself is in a fantastic location, right by Astoria so easy to get on transport and easy to walk around the Pest area.

It was hot but still enjoyed it overall.

Wonderful staff. The hostel is small and it's on the 4th floor of an old building but there is an elevator. Despite the fact that it's small we didn't really run into the other guests and never had to wait for showers or toilets which was good. The only thing our double room was small and didn't have air con and it was around 36 degrees when we went so sometimes had trouble sleeping because it was too hot. There was a small fan thing that didn't work so we left the windows open which made it loud and still didn't really help cause no breeze blew in and the bathrooms got really hot. Though it's really close to the metro and to shops and supermarkets. The bus from the airport drops you off just around the corner so it's handy. And they let us check out late which was awesome.

The manager/owner did everything she could to make my stay comfortable and memorable. It is clear that many people return here again and again. Of course, there is no AC, so people using it in summer are taking a chance that it is not too hot. It was fine while I was there, 85 F in the day 65 F at night.

The hostel is very unique and a lot of thought has gone into it. Free stuff in the bathroom and kitchen. The room was very cosy. The shutters were broken during our stay and staff came to fix. It is in a good location. I think the only problem is getting in, the lift is a little different but overall it was a great stay

The host is very helpful and very nice. I did not realize this place has no A/C. Fan is not working. Very noisy when you open the door. August in Budapest is very hot and humid. The bed is very hard. I would not recommend if you can't stand heat. I am not used to with shared bathroom and see other people with shirtless walking around.

Convenient clean with all amenities required

We had a wonderful cozy stay and had a lovely host. the only thing preventing this being a 5 star is the milk was bad in the fridge- which should have been checked as there is a milk kitty tin in the kitchen. Also the shower heads look like they could be updated, but the bathrooms were clean. Our room door was also broken and difficult to open we almost had to call the host.
Something i didnt down score for was that there was some slight noise traffic at night and early morning but not an issue for deep sleepers.
It was still a really great stay and cozy I would definately stay again.

The room is clean, neat and comfy for staying 6 nights. The building itself is old and the floor on the corridor is too old to make a sound when you walk by. Judit and her staff are very friendly and communicative which gave me useful information on my trip.

a \"Gem\" in the heart of Budapest!!

Fantastic service right off the bat...fast correspondence from the hostel and great offers for airport transfer service and the staff are just amazing people, super kind and friendly, gave me all the info i needed for this amazing city, located in the best part of the city within walking distance to all the tourist attractions, This was my first time in Budapest and Gaia Hostel has really made my holiday a wonderful one to remember...it really is a great place to stay, i highly recommend to everyone!!! i will be back :)

Highly recommend

This is the only place on my three week traveling tour I'm going to leave a review for. That's because I can't recommend this place enough. Friendly staff, nice room, and well cleaned. If you're on a budget, or just fancy saving some money then this is your place. A nice cross between a hostel and apartment.

The owner of the hostel, Judit, is very down to earth and helpful. She helped me secure a ticket to the Damian Marley concert. Room and bathrooms were clean and the WiFi worked great. Also, there is a washing machine. Perfect location too. Close to ruin pubs. Would definitely recommend!

Great hostel. The owner was lovely and told us lots of things that we could do in the city. Everything was clean and the bed was comfy. Only downside was that it was a bit hard to find as there's only a small sign showing the name of the hostle.

Fairly central location but hard to find

Our stay was pleasant enough overall. However, hotel had no sign and we weren't told it was on the second floor. Our taxi driver had to call the hotel to let them know we arrived. Our room was large and comfortable. We were able to wash laundry (but no dryer), and use the kitchen. Our hostess was very helpful with directions and suggestions on the spas. Location was central so getting around was fairly easy. This is a hostel, so you know, not a regular hotel.

It's a shared apartment, which means much less busy than a usual hostel. The room size is big and there are two bathrooms and a kitchen. It's clean and cosy. The owner will give you a lot of tips of restaurants. The location is great, near 2 metro lines.

Great hostel

I found Gaia Hostel very clean and cosy and the location was very good. Especially the owner of the place was very very nice and really helpsome. I can highly recommend this hostel. Just remember to give information about arrival time, because there´s not 24 hour reception so there might not be anybody if you don´t tell them about arrival time.

Good location just right next to Metro station and within walking distance to many of the attractions which the hop on hop off bus goes to. Host of the hostel (Judit) was very friendly and helpful in providing information though you have to provide time of arrival as the entrance is not always opened to new guests. Share bathroom may not have toileteries (if there isn't anymore left over by previous guests) provided so you might need to bring or buy your own though they do provide towels.

Great price, great location, recommended.

Price is very low, and you get large clean rooms with high ceilings in older building, plenty of clean shared bathrooms and showers, fast internet. Refrigerator, microwave, stove available. Locked and secure. Located near the blue and red Metro lines. In downtown area, close to most downtown attractions and Danube. Friendly and helpful staff, although at this price they are not available full time, which is reasonable. Come and go when it is convenient. Grocery store is at the end of the block if you need food supplies. Restaurants and attractions of all sorts are nearby. Elevator takes you up to the 4th floor.

You'll share more than a bathroom in this apartment. You will hear every single word the other guests utter and every step they take. You will also hear all the traffic in this city that never sleeps.
Don't be fooled by the location. The public transportation in Budapest is amazing. You'll find cheaper (and better!) accommodation near the railroad station.

Consigliato a chi non ha il sonno leggero

Ho soggiornato presso il Gaia Astoria per tre notti nel mese di ottobre 2025 e l’esperienza è stata complessivamente positiva. La proprietaria è accogliente e si percepisce facilmente la passione che mette nel suo lavoro.

La stanza scelta era la deluxe, con bagno privato. Molto ampia, ben pulita e dotata di un letto comodo.

In bagno è disponibile una gamma di prodotti che solitamente non si trovano in questa tipologia di struttura: oltre ai classici shampoo e bagnoschiuma, anche spray per capelli, creme da barba e altro ancora.

La posizione dell’hotel è ideale per spostarsi facilmente per la città, sia a piedi che in metro (la stazione Astoria, collegata ai principali punti di interesse, si trova a pochissimi passi). Molto comoda anche la presenza di un supermercato Aldi a un paio di numeri civici di distanza.

L’unica pecca è l’insonorizzazione, pressoché assente. Si tratta di uno stabile storico e gli anni si sentono. Inoltre, le stanze sono tutte comunicanti (le porte centrali sono state bloccate da chiavistelli o mobili) e si dispongono tutte attorno al salone, unica zona comune utilizzata anche per accogliere gli ospiti e comunque di passaggio per chiunque desideri entrare/uscire dalla struttura o andare in cucina.

Nel complesso, se l’insonorizzazione non rappresenta un problema, è senz’altro consigliato.

I could stay here so comfortable.The hotel owner and her partner were very very helpful and kindness. They taught me Budapest sightseeing even though I send rude emails and I couldn’t speak English very well.
It’s my first time to stay the hotel which like airb.
The wall of these rooms was thin.I could hear noises from next room and also I made noises too. That is the only point of concern.

Very nice location in the centre of Budapest, near all the main attraction and 1min away from the station Astoria. The host of the hotel Judit and her collegue are very nice and helpful. They are literally one call away if you need something! The hotel is an old building but don't judge it from the outside! We had a wonderful and spacious room with a big window that makes the room very luminous. Highly recommended, we will be back here if we happen to come back to Budapest!

I would like to say thanks for everything I had special time with my mom in a hostel and I extremely want to recommend the Gaia hostel to Japanese tourists so I report in Japanese.

ほんとに素敵なホステルでした!!
オーナーさんの趣味が良いのかお部屋は観葉植物がたくさんあり天井も高く、クッションやベッドカバーも個性的なデザインでとてもかわいらしいお部屋でした!!
チェックインの際はオーナーさんが地図を使ってウェルカムティーと共に詳しく説明してくださいました＊
シャワーの水圧も温度も申し分なく、とても清潔に保たれている印象です＊
共用キッチンはこぢんまりとしてますが必要なものは全て揃っています。

私はウィーンから高速鉄道(ﾚｲﾙｼﾞｪｯﾄ)で来たのでブダペスト東駅(Budapest Keleti駅)からだとメトロで乗り換え無しでホステル最寄り駅(Astoria駅)に行けます＊
ホステルまでは地上にでてから1分です！
ホステルのとなりには激安ディスカウントスーパーALDIもあります！
少し分かりずらいのが入口で、洋服屋さんのとなりに鉄の門があります！その横のインターホンで４２を押します＊応答があり鉄の門の鍵と２つ目の白い扉の鍵が開きますので素早く通り抜けます＊
のろのろしてると２つ目の白い扉が閉じてしまいますので扉と扉の間で立ち往生してしまいます。中庭手前のレトロなエレベーターで上がってください＊
空港までは空港直行市バス(100E)がホテルから歩いて10分前後のところのバス停から出てます！
専用切符はメトロAstoria駅の券売機でも買えますし、バスに乗り込む際にも買えます。
中央市場(Great Market Hall)へは歩いても問題なく行けますし、２４h切符等ありましたらトラム(47,48,49)でAstoriaから一本で行けます。
おすすめのルダーシュ温泉(Rudas Baths)も同じくAstoriaから青色の７番の市バスで一本です＊
とにかくどこに行くにも便利で最高でした！
またブダペストにくる際はリピート決定です＊

到着時にパスワードをいれないと入り口の扉が開かないようになっていて、戸惑いました。メールなどで聞いておくといいかもしれません。施設のエレベーターが手動だったり、鍵が「古き良き」という感じで使いずらかったので、そういうのが嫌な方はやめておいた方がいいかもしれません。部屋はもちろん、シャワーもトイレも清潔でしたし、オーナーの方はとても親切です。

Die Ankunft und Abreise konnten sehr flexibel gestaltet werden. Gepäck konnte noch aus dem Auschecken deponiert werden. Großes Badezimmer mit Handtücher sowie die Freundlichkeit der Hostel-Dame.

Établissement très bien situé géographiquement proche des principaux centres d’intérêts de la ville. Vous pourrez même aller prendre une bière dans un Ruins bar à moins de 10 minutes de marche. L’hostel est au 4ieme étage mais n’ayez crainte il y a un ascenseur. Lieu calme, propre et simple. Mais rapport qualité prix excellent.
L'entrée de l’immeuble peu sembler austère mais dès que vous aurez pris le tour avec les clefs tous sera parfait.

Hôtel \"alternatif\" où l'accent est mis sur le côté pratique et les relations humaines plutôt que sur le luxe.
Surprenant au premier abord... car décalé du marché actuel.
A privilégier si vous recherchez des contacts enrichissant et des bonnes adresses, à éviter si vous recherchez le confort du luxe: les installations rustiques sont toutefois bien tenues.
Pour ma part une excellente surprise ... merci à Judit pour son accueil chaleureux et ses précieux conseils.

地下鉄駅、大型スーパーマーケットが近くとても便利。ドナウ川の河畔は徒歩圏内。部屋は広く、高い天井と大きな窓で明るく開放的。ソファーや観葉植物がありリラックスできる。大通りに面し眺望が良い。4階でシャッター付きの2重窓なのでとても静か。エレベーターがある。客室4部屋に対し「洗面&トイレ&バスタブ」「洗面&トイレ&シャワー」「洗面&トイレ」があり共用だが不自由は全くない。共用ダイニングキッチンもとても使い勝手が良い。オーナーはフレンドリーでとても親切。とてもお薦めのホステル。
