5/5 – Perfect Stay for a Family Get-Together

We stayed here for one night for a family meeting, and everything was fantastic from start to finish. The location is ideal—just a short walk from Glengarriff town—but still peaceful and scenic.

The staff were welcoming and helpful throughout our stay, and the service was excellent. Rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable—perfect for relaxing after a long day.

Dinner at the hotel restaurant was a highlight: delicious food, generous portions, and great local ingredients. Breakfast the next morning was just as good, with plenty of choice for all ages.

Would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a convenient, warm, and high-quality place to stay near Glengarriff. We’ll be back!

Great place to stay

A lovely stay - wish I'd had more time there. Loved the cosy reception area with the open fires, esp since it was lashing rain outside. Room very comfortable and quiet with soft lighting and black out curtains.

The hotel is very old, and while well maintained and clean, not up to modern standards in a few ways. Elevator took us to the second floor but then there were two sets of stairs ( carpeted ) to navigate. Bathroom was nicely renovated but the door opened inwards making it difficult to easily enter the small space because of the placement of the sink. We could not open the window for fresh air more than a couple of inches. The staff were all very nice and welcoming, and the food was pretty good at breakfast and the one dinner we had. Nicest touch was the coffee maker in the room. The bed was bery comfortable, and the shower was great. It was fine, but not as good as we had anticipated.

Never again

Our room was on the third floor, so we had to get the elevator, it was then down two flights of stairs into a very small, hot and dark room where neither the WiFi or or phone signal worked. We went back to reception and asked if we can change rooms or even potentially pay more for an upgrade as there were rooms on all booking sites available. One lady on reception was pleasant and said no, the other was quite snarky and rolled her eyes at me for asking. The room we were given certainly was not a 4 star hotel room.
Second to this, the meal was slightly overpriced for what we got. The steak was requested medium but came very well done. We didn’t bring this to their attention as the attitude I experienced when asking to change rooms put me off bringing any issues to their attention

Lovely Hotel.

We have just come back after a 3 night stay. Our room 406 was clean & well equipped. However the nice new shower flooded the bathroom & at night you could hear a generator or something above the room that kept me awake…a big shout out to the lovely bar man (sorry we didn’t get your name) & Margo Donovan who was also lovely…food at this hotel is very good. We had a nice view over the sea.

Lovely hotel with lots of character overlooking the water. Had a complementary upgrade to a Seaview room which was nicely decorated and clean. The room is a little small but suited us just fine. Breakfast was good in the morning with fresh pastries and a made to order selection. Spa experience was also nice overlooking the harbour

Shame about the size of the room

Luckily we were only staying one night - This was a 10 night trip staying in a range of hotels and this was the smallest room we experienced.
I had to stand between the toilet and the shower (a narrow gap) to be able to close the bathroom door behind me. There was barely enough room in the wardrobe to hang anything (because of the bathrobes, ironing board and iron etc.) and only enough room for one of us to dress by the wardrobe at any time.
We realise that the hotel is a listed building and they don't have the ability to create more space but it you have a choice avoid room 304.
Service was helpful and food was good. Parking was plentiful outside the front of the hotel.

The hotel is lovely. Our room on the 4th floor had dormers, as it presumably was the old servants’ quarters, which made it a bit cramped, but otherwise was nice. The desk staff person was lovely. At dinner, the restaurant staff seemed almost frantic, which made for a less-than-perfect experience.

Cosy and relaxing overnight stay

The Eccles is well worth the stay. The food and the ambience of the hotel are superb and the staff were extremely welcoming. The rooms are small, but cleverly laid out to give the illusion of space, and let's face it if you are using the room just to sleep, do you need a massive room? The room was newly renovated with a very comfy 5ft bed and I really liked the cosiness. I had room to lay out the yoga mat, so the rooms aren't too tiny.
The food and the view with dinner were definitely the highlight for me though. I look forward to staying again.

Faulty shower

Lovely hotel but tiny room. Very nicely decorated bathroom but the shower was dangerous, impossible to control water temperature and jumped from scalding hot to icy cold and nothing in between. I had a nice stay, the hotel has a beautiful exterior and common areas and tons of parking. I am guessing some of the rooms are fantastic but mine was very plain, bed was uncomfortable with springs sticking up through mattress. TV didn't work in my room. Parking lots were practically empty so there was likely an opportunity to get an upgrade to a better room or one facing the nice view but it wasn't offered - and I didn't bother to ask either after I got settled in my room. All around it's a nice hotel outside of the room I had.

There was a glitch with our reservation, no fault of the hotel. Mary and Patrick went above and beyond to accommodate us and did they ever! We were given the last room which happened to be the bridal suite which was phenomenal.

Nice hotel but a small single room

A nice hotel set in a lovely location. My room was on the small side and the bed was squeezed between two walls so it was difficult to stretch my long legs out.

The bar and lounge area were very comfortable, the staff friendly and the breakfast was excellent.

I would however, be happy to return to the hotel which is always a good indicator.

Cosy,friendly with fabulous food.

Had a fabulous 2 night stay. Beautiful view of the bay from our room. A great welcome from receptionist Trish on arrival and indeed all staff were so nice and helpful.
The food was way better here than most restaurants. At dinner the mussels and salmon were excellent and for lunch the spiced beef and also the prawn salads were top class. Very reasonable prices too.
We availed of complimentary bicycles and visited many local sights such as Glengariff National Park and the Ewe Experience, both worth a visit.
Excellent breakfast with nice fruit and grills and choice of eggs cooked to order. Homemade brown bread was something special.
We liked the cosy hotel bar in which you could eat from the bistro menu. We noticed a number of locals were there for food and drink which is always a good sign.
We felt so comfortable here in this beautiful hotel situated in one of the most picturesque locations in Ireland.
We will definetly be back.

Old world charm

Lovely older hotel, grand old house.
Room was tiny but the bathroom was wonderful, the tub was deep and long enough for me to stretch out fully which was wonderful after a long day driving and hiking the Ring of Kerry and Beara Penninsula. Didn't have dinner here but other guests raved about the food and given the quality of the breakfast, I am sure I missed out. The bar was friendly and they had a great kid playing guitar the night I was there (anyone who can play Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Hendrix and not make a mess of it is a great local talent and I hope to hear of him making it big).

The front desk staff could not have been better and the bar/restaurant staff as well.

If you need all modern conveniences, spacious rooms and flat screen tvs, this is not your place. My TV was ancient and didn't even work. But staying at the Eccles offers an old world charm and elegance that reminded me of the grand victorian hotels in the US.

Sitting in the lobby by the fireplace watching the sunset over the sailboats in the harbor was a treat that other more modern hotels in town can not offer.

Highly recommend.

need upgrading and welcoming reception staff!

Room was booked six months prior was bitterly disappointing. Spoke to manager, room was supposedly room was supposedly recently renovated, he said you don’t want to see other rooms! Did offer us a discount but didn’t pass on to other staff so embarrassed us on check out. Love Glengarriff but sadly won’t stay here again. However need to mention Dillon in bar/restaurant excellent friendly service.

pleasant hotel. Homely. Nice atmosphere

Overall it was a pleasant stay. The bar food and service was excellent and to be recommended.
However the breakfast experience was bizarre. The staff could not cope with the numbers. There didn't appear to be anyone in overall charge. Table not set properly-got bowl instead of a cup!!
Ran out of glasses, plates for buffet, butter. 2nd morning there was nothing available for the menu only buffet food. Ordered coffee and got tea one morning.
Serious attention needed to breakfast organisation. In my opinion the room was understaff and staff not trained adequately. However everyone was very polite and pleasant.

Excellent service, superb food, amazing location

Have always wanted to stay in this historic landmark hotel & finally got to go there this week. The hotel staff are so attentive & helpful, the rooms are very clean & the views are amazing. It is so peaceful there you cannot help but wind down. The crowning glory of the place is the food...their Head Chef is an amazingly talented young man who has a passion for good food. He has his own kitchen garden at the hotel & has the drive & passion to really bring the Eccles back to its glory days where it rightfully belongs. If you want a break in a beautiful, serene location in a quirky historical inn/hotel with the most amazing food then this is the spot

Very Nice Charming Hotel at a Great Location

This is an older vacation lodge type of hotel but we found it very pleasant and charming. It is across the street from the lake with a great view from the dining room and the front porch. Some of the furniture was a little dated but seemed to add to the charm of the place. It has a lovely traditional dining rooom and the rooms are all very comfortable. The included buffet breakfast was a full breakfast and provided to us by excellent, charming wait staff. A great place for a stop in south Ireland. Aside from food in the dinning room and the bar there are restaurants close by but we found the food at the hotel to be the best and very reasonable.

Lovely and friendly staff. Everything is good enough tho we feel the price is a bit above what you would be willing to pay considering the time of the year and it’s location plus the local attractions are currently scarce. We were massively let down by the hot breakfast. It is not what you would hope for. It was a bit below standard.

Lovely area

Hotel room was chilly as the window was cracked and with windows so old, we could not open them and the noise from the road was loud. There is major structural damage which needs to be addressed. Nice decor but it is hiding the bad stuff. Staff were lovely, so pleasant and helpful but it needs an injection of investment as it is situated in so a beautiful part of the world.
