The issues we had were that the room was unbearably hot and that the noise from a heavily used nearby trucking route (on Barrington) completely disrupted our sleep. The hotel is very charming, beautifully appointed. Room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, the "fireplace" heater a wonderful touch in the sitting room. The location is great, walking distance to the boardwalk, Neptune theater, as well as lots of great restaurants and shopping. Staff was very friendly and wonderfully accommodating. We had a wonderful relaxing long weekend there. We lucked out with parking for the whole weekend, but there are very limited spots at the building itself. One drawback is no elevator (our room was on second floor), so if that is a concern, make sure to ask for a room on the first floor. The only big negative was the restaurant/bar was closed. When we booked, we were not made aware of this. We have friends in Halifax, and we'll definitely be staying here again.

The only thing you need to be aware of is being historical buildings, there is no elevator so be prepared to climb the stairs which are fairly narrow and steep. A historic property, well kept and decorated, but with quirks. Very narrow hallways and lots of stairs, with very limited on site parking. Lots of restaurants and shops close by if the hills aren’t a problem for you. Library area is nice for use as a sitting area. This property has 3 buildings, beautifully restored historical sites. We were in the one farthest from the main site. We booked the last room, in the basement with some trepidation. There are (non-opening) windows, so there is light. The room was spacious, but had a double bed. The first night there was an overpowering musty odour. There was no visible mold. There was a dehumidifier in the hallway. It did a good job in clearing out the musty odour in the hallway & our room on the 2nd day. The hotel management would be well served to run the dehumidifier in the basement rooms before guests arrive, as the door is very off-putting.
