Our room was very dated but clean. It was a bit crowded too. Had trouble locking the door so sought assistance from the reception who gladly helped. Unfortunately we had already struggled with the lock for half an hour of our morning when we would've preferred sightseeing. The lock was also hard to unlock. I think we were unlucky with the room. I saw nicer rooms in other units.

Nice and clear instructions for my late check in, room was clean and functional with well equipped kitchen. It is very close to a busy road, but there is not much traffic during the night so not a big problem. Close to a nice beach and good restaurants (but avoid the “Italian” nearby, it's terrible. Nice stay!

TV worked intermittently but only on 3 channels
fridge is held up in one corner with a sponge

Excellent value for money, and spotlessly clean with friendly staff. However there are some problems with the amenities that did not hinder our enjoyment of the place.

The stove in our unit had a broken control panel that made it difficult to use the oven, and the floor of the oven had some unrecognizable powder underneath the aluminum foil.

The driers in the shared laundry facility did not work well, leaving the clothes about as damp as they went in.

We would definitely stay there again, everything else about the facility was great. Especially the staff.

I’m not a snob and don’t judge people but they should have disclosed this when booking
At 300/night I was expecting something nice and romantic … there were kids and families everywhere. I would suggest they include this in their booking information.

We were informed that some rooms were tenanted for social housing. Thought that it will be ok but turned out to be a bad idea. People from nearby room were fighting at the middle of the night so hard to sleep. No heating inside the main bedroom. To top it all off a big drama played out on the last night- one of the lady owners threw a tantrum, crying and shouting out in the street in front of our room as partner seems to be leaving her. A lot of drama for a week we wanted to spend trying to relax.

As this is our 4th time staying at Castles. we really like this place. It is close to where we want to go, Clean and tidy, warm also. The shower water has excellent pressure. Castles is easy to find. Close to several good eatery's, the beach is only minutes away.

First the staff never cleaned our unit for the 3 nights we were there. Run out of toilet paper, towels.,soap,etc.Had to force them to do a basic clean in the end. Sleep on same sheets for all 3 nights.
Next is the noise from the road all night long and you could hear people talking in the unit next to us.

We only had one night at Castles Motel, but were very impressed with the service we received. When we arrived we were informed that the room we had booked was not available due to a plumbing issue, and the owners were very apologetic and accommodating in providing us with another room. The room we stayed in was very comfortable and clean and we could not have asked for anything better.

Cant say enough about this place. Close proximity to Tahuna Beach, cafes, bakery, dairy. The staff were very obliging and nothing was too much trouble. On arrival, we were checked in and greeted by Lucy, who went out of her way to ensure we had maps and everything at hand. The only downside is that the weather did not play its part and to get to our unit we had to climb the steps in the rain. Maybe some sort of shelter wouldn't go amiss. We definitely recommend this motel to anyone. We will be back!

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at Castles Motel on a 3 week driving tour of the South Island, and primarily used it as a base to explore the Abel Tasman National Park. It was a bit further than we anticipated (about an hour drive to meet up with our boat tour), so we probably should have considered Motueka instead. That said though, we enjoyed our stay at Castles Motel. We found our room to be very comfortable and included everything we needed (great to have access to a washer/dryer on the premises). The wifi was unlimited and very good. It's location within Nelson was good - numerous restaurants (Smuggler's, a good choice), a liquor store, a gas station, a fruit/veggie stand and access to the beach all within close walking distance.
