Days before checking in, I asked if they had a waffle maker and a bagel toaster; their response was that they had a full kitchen.

My plan was to enjoy the cabin, cook some dinner, have a nice breakfast, and celebrate my mom’s birthday.

If you’re planing something like that at this place, make sure to bring your own pots and pans, your own blender, your own oven tray in case you want to bake something, your own spices, herbs, and seasonings. Also, do NOT forget your OWN UTENSILS and coffee filters. Water is also a must—all you’re getting here is tap water.

I’ve seen couches in the middle of the street cleaner than the one at the living room. The floor of the bathroom has mildew…I suggest you wear some flip flops or sandals while taking a shower.

The curtains are a joke and don’t do the job they are supposed to. If you like to sleep in a dark environment, this is definitely not the place for you—the cabin gets a lot of sunlight which makes hard to sleep in the early morning.

If I could give a negative star in my review, I would. Stay away from this property because this place is terrible! You can get a modern and new hotel room for way cheaper.

Cons:
The bedroom had kitchen curtains on their window! That meant they were very light and cheer. It didn’t fully cover the window either. I had to use hair clips from keeping the curtains from opening to ensure privacy. But the worst was at night. The room was SO bright! Specially because there was a light right outside our window. Because of this I had a hard time falling asleep and staying asleep. It was awful.
Second thing was the late check in. 5pm for a check in is very inconvenient.
Third thing was the cooking ware. Old, damaged, cheap, and the non stick coating was so scratched that it’s literally unhealthy to attempt to cook in those things. Which I was very sad about because I was counting on making breakfast for my family.

The check-in process at Sleepy Forest Cottages was extremely easy, and the staff were very friendly, which made for a positive start to our stay. This was my first time visiting Big Bear and staying in a cottage, and overall the experience was enjoyable and memorable. The location is convenient, with most attractions and activities within about a mile, which made getting around very easy.

That said, there were a few drawbacks that stood out. Upon arrival, we noticed a bullet hole in the door, which was unexpected and concerning, as it is something I have never encountered before. Additionally, while reviews mentioned that the property had been renovated, the paintwork appeared poorly done in several areas, with visible scuffing and damage that made the space feel unfinished.

Unfortunately, the bed was also quite uncomfortable, which affected the quality of our sleep. We did consider relocating to another property but ultimately decided to stay for the two nights. While the cottage has potential to be much better with some improvements, the stay price we paid was reasonable for the location.

We had a very enjoyable stay at Sleepy Forest Cottages. Check-in officially starts at 5pm, which is quite late—especially when traveling a long distance, and this time of year it’s already dark by then. Fortunately, we received a text that our cottage was ready at 2:30pm. Had we known sooner, we would have headed up earlier.

The property itself is quiet and clean, with convenient parking right by the cottage. The room is on the smaller side but still offered plenty of space for two people. The gas fireplace was a cozy touch, though it’s set on a maximum 30-minute timer and makes a noticeable countdown clicking sound, so we had to get up frequently to keep it going.

The king bed was comfortable, and the separate bathroom featured a walk-in shower with two shower heads. The highlight was definitely the large jacuzzi tub for two—very relaxing and a perfect way to unwind. The smart TV mounted above the fireplace swivels so you can watch comfortably from the bed or the jacuzzi.

The location is excellent, with restaurants and shops within walking distance and The Village just a short drive away. Grizzly Manor Café around the corner was fantastic for breakfast. Saucy Mama’s in The Village is also highly recommended—our pastrami pizza was unique and delicious. The lake is just down the street with a nice park, and we even spotted a few resident raccoons exploring the area in search of snacks.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay at a very reasonable rate. We would definitely return.

It was very clean. Bed was great - firm! Fireplace, double shower heads, jetted tub, small kitchenette (microwave, coffeemaker, fridge, sink). We never saw the staff - everything was ready when we got there. Communication was through text with a code for the door lock. They checked on us from time to time.

Needed a lot of cosmetic work! Cracked ceiling, peeling paint, cracked bathroom tiles, wifi a little slow, sink and bathtub showed some porcelain damage, chintzy door lock.

Check in was odd. They never reached out to me ahead of the check-in time, when we arrived there, we had to scan a QR code and upload info. During check, in the web site / text messages we triggered with the QR code —mentioned we should have received a message so we could have processed that earlier than day of check-in.
That would have been nice because then we would have already had our room information and code beforehand rather than having to do it at Sleepy Forest Cottages, outside the front desk (which had no one inside at 730pm). Otherwise. Nice stay.

Big Bear was a lovely place to visit but it was let down by our experience with Sleepy Hollow Cottages. The process for registering was to fill in an online form after which the property sends the code for entry, email etc. By the day before, the email with the link had not arrived. I phoned the property but couldn’t get through, just an answerphone. Then had to email via internet AND Expedia. The person I dealt with could not find the booking reference.
Eventually sent me a message with the link, which did not work, so I had to enter three lines of letters and numbers manually. Only to discover that the website still did not recognise the booking. Eventually I was given the relevant codes manually and we got into the property okay but the process was very stressful.
The property was okay and floors, bedding and the like were clean but windows etc really needed a deep clean. The interior of the property was showing definite signs of age lumps missing from the bath surface for example Everything did work though.
Shame really as with a bit of TLC this could be a great venue.

We rented a standard queen bed cabin. It was much better when it was remodeled or new. The cabin was really old and worn out. Mattess was sagging, window screens falling, windows would not stay open, shower heads were tricky snd hard to adjust.... water pressure in the shower was low and there was no vdnting fan. The jet tub was good and area outside had a shared bbq box nearby. Overall, a solid good but not great.

The room was charming, with a nice hot tub. The decor was dated but the room was overall decent, with the exception of the overhead fan. the fan was loud with a variety of tones, noises and shaking. Yes, we could have turned it off but it was hot (even with the windows open) and there was no a/c in the room so my wife an I did not get much sleep.

Parking was tight, I have a larger truck and found it easiest to back down the entire driveway to my parking spot so I would be able to exit more easily.
Lastly, the staff communicates via text message and everything is contactless which is ok except that it would have been nice to be able to speak with someone more readily available.

The tile floor in the bathroom was completely broken and a rug was just thrown over it. The water temperature in the shower was off in two shower heads. The decor was old and dated, the mattress was hard. I would not stay there again. The staff was the best part of the experience as she was very nice.

Wow I don't like leaving bad reviews I feel that most bad reviews are vindictive. This place is cute and quiet but here comes the issues. The bed is like sleeping on a cement slab. Nothing comforting about it. We arrived late and everything was closed I almost felt like sleeping in my car the bed was that uncomfortable. I paid for a two night stay but ended up going to another establishment with better beds. Now let's talk about the bugs. The front door has a 1/4 inch gap at the bottom of the door sill that allows any creepy crawling spiders or bug into your cabin. Pull the sheets back on my concrete slab and seen a couple of bugs tucked in the corner. Not a bug expert cannot confirm or deny if it was a bed bug. Could have been a Forrest bug for all I know. The bathroom floor tiles are loose. If you are looking for that outdoor experience but being indoors this is the place for you. On the plus side I will give you a 1 star rating because your showers and the water pressure and how hot the water gets will sanitize your body after laying on that slab. If I can give you any feedback. Change the mattresses and box spring and seal the place up. And I'm sure you will have better reviews. You made money off me and I don't even care. Use that money for some improvements. Wish you guys the best. I will never use this place again.

This property is in a great central location in town. However, the cabin itself was in disrepair. The chain on the door was broken, there was broken tile in the kitchen, and we didn’t even use the hot tub because the paint was chipped all over and it didn’t seem safe or sanitary. Additionally, there were cobwebs in all the corners of the rooms. Worst of all there was a large red stain on the blanket that I can only assume was blood? Basically, I will rather sleep in my car than stay at this cabin again.

Smoke from fireplace was horrible. Had to open all the windows and turn on the heater. Could not shut the bathroom door all the way or it would stick and wouldn’t open. Jacuzzi tub took over an hour to fill up to the height of the jets. Maybe this room S09 is a problem and not the rest of the hotel. House pictures differ from real-life pictures. Everything in the houses is so old and dirty, from the bedding to the blankets to the glassware. Rather than adding water to the soap dispenser, they could at least fill it with soap for this price.

A Little Home Away from Home

I took a trip up to Big Bear to get away from the Los Angeles heat wave. I had never stayed at Sleepy Forest but my friend booked her cabin here. I was so happy I was introduced to this place and will be a return customer! The cabin was so cute and cozy! The kitchen was stocked with all of the necessities. It was like having a little home away from home. Check-in and check-out was super easy and the staff were courteous and caring.

This facility is in serious need of upgrades and its policies as far as paper products need to be re-thought out. I had to basically demand that something be brought in place of paper towels and napkins. That replacement was, wash towels. Grout in the bathroom was missing or had major gaps. The floor of the shower was in serious need of scrubbing. The ice cube maker in the refrigerator which also was antique kept going off every half an hour for trying to pull water into the ice cube maker, but that has been disconnected. There has been many complaints about the quality of the bed or bedding, and I will follow that trend as well . I had several really great conversations with a staff member who was listening intently as to what I felt was subpar and what could be done to try to save someone’s experience and rating it very low. I also talked to the general manager, who also listened intently, but I think he is up to his neck in Upgrades which are still not up-to-date.

This was my first experience with 'hands-off' business dealings for an accommodation. I found it a bit impersonal. There were little things in the room that could have used some attention but there was no one to tell. These are cabins in a rustic setting and the exterior light was burned out, I tripped one evening coming back to the room. Luckily I didn't get hurt. But there was no one to tell about the light.

The spa tub was very large and worked well. The bed was comfortable the shower in the bathroom was walk in and had 3 shower heads! The kitchen was very nice. It had a good sized refrigerator and freezer and coffee maker and microwave plus stove and oven with utensils and pots and pans , plates and cups and glasses. Really big fireplace and large flat screen tv. Very quiet area and handy to many restaurants!

It’s old and needs a lot of work. The shades were all broken so privacy was def an issue. The spa tub was gross. We ran the jets four times to clean it out and it blew nasty out each time. Decided not to use afterall. The property overall needs work. Probably won’t stay again.

There is no office/employee on site. Check-in was handled via text/email. Couldn't reach anyone by phone to address issues. Very frustrating. The cabin was small, dark and hot...no AC...couldn't open the window for ventilation because there was no screen...The tub was so dirty (old bar of soap stuck in drain). The property was nothing like the photos online. Windows do not lock. Tapwater was an orange color Furnishings are very dated, although the mattress was firm and good to sleep on. The blinds on the windows had several broken slats and one of the blinds did not function. Television should’ve been replaced many years ago. The remote did not work and because we are techies, we were able to figure out alternative ways to change channels, etc. In general, the cabin was disappointing, and we would not stay there again.

This little cabin is so cute and quaint. When I walked in, I was impressed by the cleanliness and coziness. The bed is very big and comfy. There is a cozy little sofa and very nice, clean bathroom. The problems were these: you can't change channels on the t.v. from the bed because of the height of the t.v. The mattress kept moving around on the base of the bed. At around 3pm, the cabin got hot and stuffy but there's no air conditioner. It would have been nice to have shampoo, conditioner and lotion like most hotels.

Sloppy Floppy Cottage

First of all you do NOT speak with a person. No one is there to greet you it is all done by text. Very impersonal. Also I helped them with two 40 inch flat screen tv's that were delivered and sitting in front of the office doors by putting the TV's in the abandoned Office. The grounds of the whole place was very poorly maintained. Our \" Cottage \" had a crack in the front door which was poorly filled in with clear silicon. Also our room was not finished being painted right by the door. Our bed was sooo uncomfortable the mattress was new but the box spring and frame were old and made the bed into a U shape. So they threw a new mattress on an old box spring and frame so the bed creaked every time you moved. The TV had 3 remotes and none of which turned on or off the TV. The shower had 2 shower heads and only 1 was working. The whole experience was terrible. I asked through a text of course if we could switch to a \" cottage \" with a bigger or better bed they said \" I have 0 Rooms available tonight, I'm at 100% max capacity. ;( .\" The sad face emoji was unnecessary. Needless to say we left early. I know we were not going to get a refund but we could not stay any longer and not be able to rest. Last words from our host was \" I hope you had a great 4th and another opportunity :) - Amanda. \" Sleepy Forest Cottages more like Sloppy Floppy Cottages! NOT worth the $850 spent. Every Hotel and Motel was non-refundable and I can see why. Never going back to that tourist trap.

I stayed for 4 days. It was very quiet. The area is very chill. Luckily, the other guests were also very quiet. The cottages are also just a short walk away from big bear lake, a must see! I love this town and will visit again soon! And if sleepy cottages has vacancies, i just may book a stay. Note: Food, dinning & shopping isnt as expensive in big bear as you would think. Spend spend spend! Support the economy! 🤗

I must say I enjoyed my 3 night stay at this cottage. Check in was easy, the cabin was clean, plenty towels ,bedding, cookware. There is no laundry facility as noted in amenities. There were a few cracks in the floor tiles, which was no big deal to me. I had my own DVD's for living living room TV. The grounds could have used some attention. My only issue was the faucet in the Shower dripped continuous. The faucet handles could use some replacement. I will be staying here upon my return to Big Bear.

Our stay at Sleepy Forest Cottages was great. My wife and I were looking for a cozy getaway, and boy, did we find it. The cottages had comfy interiors and charming decorations which set up the perfect vibe. Bedrooms were hotel equipped, comfy beds, plenty of linens and blankets. Waking up to the sounds of nature and sipping coffee on our private balcony was pure bliss. The staff (never saw, but spoke constantly through text) went out of their way to make sure we had a fantastic time, hooking us up with awesome recommendations for exploring the area. Whether you're after a romantic escape (w/ a fireplace), snowboarding (which I did, less than 5min drive away) or just some R&R, Sleepy Forest Cottages is the ultimate spot.

This property has put me on point to realize, Expedia’s rating system is so far off in its gauging or it’s interpretation of grading. They gave this place like a 9, when it was a high 5 at best and that was mainly due to the property being in a place like Big Bear Lake, Ca. I would stay clear of this place and would really think about what you are getting since Expedia’s grading system is SO far off.

I loved how quiet and private it was. No one bothered us and we were able to enjoy a relaxing spa experience as well as convenient for places to eat and snowboard. I do wish we had cable and we had silverware, bit we really enjoyed our stay.

The tub was wonderful but the bed was so bad we had to leave early due to not being able to sleep at all. Staff was lovely but many other things were broken not working. We had to leave.

We booked a room with a bathtub in the bedroom. The pictures are different for each room on the listings.
When we got there it was NOT the room pictured in the listing.
They couldn’t get us into a room we were expecting and didn’t offer any compensation for the misleading information. Very upsetting after years of wanting to stay here.

I stayed in the cabin that had a whirlpool bath and fireplace. The whole cabin desperately needs an upgrade. The whirlpool bath had cracks, the bathroom was very run down, and the whole cabin felt claustrophobic.

The cabins were located in a perfect part of town, within a mile or 2 from everything you could need and some stores even in walking distance. Our cabin was roomy and felt like home. Some appliances seemed a tad outdated and television wasn’t working, but other than that the indoor hot tub and fireplace were picture perfect.

Cute little get a way

My fiance and i decided to try somewhere new since we frequently go up to Big Bear. The check in process was nice and easy as its done ahead of time. The place was small, perfect as a couple. Had a little kitchen with 2 sets of everything. The spa tub was quite spacious and was a great addition to the space. The area was very quiet, perfect for our little get away.

The cottage was very homey. It was nice having a kitchen, the heater worked great and after some help from the office the tv was able to work with our device for streaming. The staff were nice and helpful. My only issue was the bed being too firm but that’s a personal preference. We will be coming back.
