So it was our wedding anniversary 1st weekend in March and I was trying to do something nice and relaxing, when we checked in it was after 10pm the staff didn't greet us just ask for ID and credit card and gave us the keys to the room, didn't even let us know what time breakfast would be served or anything like that. My husband went to breakfast, and it was some mini croissants, English muffins and bread and some orange juice. The gym didn't even have a treadmill in it, the spa/pool was in another building which you had to either walk to or drive and of course its wintertime. I had called to inquire about couples massage and i was told they only have 1 massage therapist. The only thing I enjoyed was the room, it was very spacious, I chose the one with the fireplace. I liked the peacefulness of the area also.

I went for my anniversary spa weekend and unfortunately the spa and restaurant were closed. I wish there was more information on their website to inform guest. Other than that the staff were amazing and the atmosphere was beautiful. Also the bed was like sleeping on a cloud very cozy during the snowstorm.

This is one of the most disappointing hotels I have ever stayed at, cleanliness is clearly not a priority here.

First, we booked a balcony and hot tub room and only got the hot tub. We did not even bring it up to the front desk because they were dealing with 4 other couples screaming at them for mistakes and problems. Whatever, we move on. Then, we enter our room and its absolutely disgusting. It looks as if it hasn't been cleaned since the property was purchased. Dust ALL over like I mean everywhere, on the counter, in the fireplace bowing everywhere, even IN the fridge. Then we enter the bathroom to use the hot tub, nope cant, hair is absolutely everywhere. Stuck to walls, all over the floor, and even stuck in the drains. Obviously the room had not been cleaned.
We could not even enjoy the room as the furniture was cheap, worn, and in extremely dirty condition. The couch had visible stains, which made it uncomfortable (and frankly gross) to even sit on. For en expensive room and for a place to call themselves a \"resort and spa\" the overall quality felt run down, extremely neglected, and poorly managed. When you charge premium prices you expect the property to delivery a quality stay, but this stay was the furthest from quality. If your looking for a relaxing resort level experience, look elsewhere.

THE BATHTUBS HAVE MOLD. The front desk said it was missing grout, but the caulking around the tub was black. We switched rooms, and same thing. No ventilation in the bathrooms. The entrance had a ton of ice that was not well maintained with salt. The elevator was not working, so we had to haul up everything to the second floor with little kids. The soaking tub didn’t look clean enough to enjoy and that was the reason I picked this place. In all my years of staying at hotels with my children, I have never encountered such a rude staff! I called the hotel prior to my reservation to make sure that we could use the pool …I booked two rooms I wanted to make sure that they were adjoining rooms. She had to fix reservation because it was an additional up charge for connected rooms and there was no issue with using the pool after check out we’re leaving. When I got to the hotel to check in, my husband noticed that the lights were off in the pool and she said that there wasn’t a problem we could use the pool tomorrow still. I explained how last time We had a late check out they just activated the card to use only pool and she said no it’s all set. I got up in the morning got breakfast for the kids requested a late check out because they were still sleeping since it was New Year’s Day upon check out I was returning the hotel keys to the front desk, I had said to her I need you just to activate one so we can get in and out of the pool area and she said your reservation is done with. You cannot use the pool ma’am… She said this in front of my four children that were standing there iwaiting to go to the pool… She was rude and condescending. I asked her to speak to a manager. I was told not one on site , I said call one please I’m visibly upset and she kept talking over me and was condescending! Ma’am you are no longer a guess you cannot use the pool your children cannot use the pool. We exchanged words and I left.

The restaurant was closed, the pictures of the pool were very misleading, and the breakfast was terrible. The room was big but not clean (the sofa had foot prints all over) and looked worn and old. So disappointing we checked out early.

The hotel was quaint, the rooms were clean and the staff was friendly, but for the two days we were there, we never had anything more than lukewarm water. The staff said the boiler had been replaced recently and that hot water would return \"within hours.\" It never did. The hotel didn't make any effort to compensate us for this inconvenience.

Side note: The hotel offers only streaming services on its TVs. Good luck trying to figure it out. (Maybe it's a problem for only us over-60 people, but an in-room guide to decoding it would have been helpful.)

I will say the rooms are quite large if you need plenty of room or are traveling in a large group. We had no hot water during our stay - the hotel was experiencing issues so it was widespread. The gym is a closet with a a few dumbbells, the pool is across the parking lot in a separate building. Our room had peeling paint all over the floor in the bathroom, the dishes/utensils at breakfast had food stuck to them and nobody was cleaning up. The staff didn’t communicate with anyone regarding the hot water, just kept hiding and slipping papers under the door. Emailed management about my concerns and expected to hear something - never heard another word. Cancelled my future reservations here.

Nice property but very run down, gym is in terrible shape, and the pool/spa is in a separate building requiring a short drive in most weather conditions. The room was old and the breakfast limited and all processed food (no fresh fruits or eggs for example). Coffee was good, staff was excellent and the bed was comfortable.

I ended up choosing not to stay there. There were maybe 8 cars in the parking lot. I arrived at 3pm, was told my room was ready but that I would be charged $50 to check in any earlier than 4pm. There was no music playing in the lobby, no one walking about the property....it was a very bizarre atmosphere.

First of all, not sure this reopening was so grand. The room was still showing signs of age, think bathroom. My dog which they charged 150$ for, immediately found food on the floor, chocolate chips I grabbed out of his mouth. My son and daughter in law met me @ Pino for dinner. There was one other table of 2 in the restaurant....357$ later for super slow service, decent food but not WOW!So folks, 600$ for one night in Tygnsboro NH....

I’ve stayed at countless hotels and never had them take a photocopy of my license and my credit card with security code. Maybe I’m over thinking it but I was really bothered by the photocopy and the fact that the employee walked into a different room with my id & credit card without saying what she was doing. As I booked through Expedia I wouldn’t think non payment would be a concern. The elevator was down but it wasn’t too much of an issue as I only had one bag.

This property was beautiful, full of character and charm! The woodwork is lovely. Quiet resort full of beauty.
Only things that needed worked on here were the moisture issue in the room with humidity level too high on the ac and in the bathroom with no fan. Cute little yellow sofa in room is dirty on arms.
The rooms are very large though and just full of so much charm! Lighting needs improved as well. We didn’t eat at the restaurant on site but it looked very nice. Highly recommend this property though.

The indoor pool is not connected to the building with the hotel rooms. You have to be in outside and find it in the woods. I would never walk around there at night . Anyone can get into the indoor pool even though it’s “controlled access” with a hotel key. The pool water itself is clean- the rest of the busking is disgusting. The couch in the hotel room was stained and I wouldn’t sit on it . The elevator was broken. The girl at the front desk gave me keys to the room even though it wasn’t ready. There were hairs in our bed on the clean sheets” the landscaping hasn’t been touched in years. I will never come back here. Don’t let the pictures deceive you- they must be very old pictures.

This hotel is much prettier in person when you walk in the door it hits you with this very clean smell. I would call it a combination of white tea and crisp linens. The decor is very pretty. The restaurant is very classy, and the food was phenomenal. The drink menu was great And the cocktails were fantastic. I got the filet mignon which was pretty good. Caesar salad was excellent. I would give my experience a nine out of 10 reason being the free continental breakfast was quite underwhelming for such a beautiful facility. I feel like they could’ve done a little bit better for breakfast… Although it was free, I would’ve gladly paid money to have something better. The muffins and pastries were the size of a very large strawberry to give you a size reference of how tiny it was the pool and Jacuzzi you have to walk to so if you’re going to go in the winter months, I would suggest You keep that in mind that it is outdoor and you have to walk out the parking lot to it. I didn’t like the fact that the shower in the pool area is only available for spa paying guests. I feel like if you’re going to be able to use the pool you should be able to shower. The front staff girl was also working the restaurant. She was friendly. In both roles. The housekeeping manager was in the hallway, talking unpolitely about other employees and too other employees quite loudly outside my door, which I thought to be very unprofessional.soaking tub amazing!!! Room was clean , will stay again

Overall we had a great stay, we really enjoyed having a nice soaking tub in our room and having the pool and hot tub area basically to ourselves at times. Only hiccup we had was first night we checked in it was rainy day and half the building lost power, but we still had some lights and the staff offered flashlights, however the air did not come back on till morning, luckily it was only in the late 60s and early 70s temperature wise. That aside we had a relaxing and refreshing trip.

Not quite sure how this has an 8.0 rating here on hotels.com. This place is old dark and the staff is cold on the verge of unfriendly upon arrival. They did not accept American Express, which is how I booked my trip originally the room is filled with mismatched lamps and gross stained built-in couches. There were stains even on the ceiling and the whole place appeared to be cobbled together. Of the three hotels on this trip that we stayed at it was by far the worst also as a note, the pool is located in a separate building from the rooms, which is very inconvenient with children, but given the way the rest of the hotel was, I don’t think we would’ve gone in the pool anyways.

Chateau Merrimack seems like a once-grand hotel that has fallen on hard times, as if in a war zone. Sometimes things work, and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes the breakfast is laid out, and sometimes it isn’t. Sometimes there are towels, and sometimes the whole place is out of them.

The grounds are beautiful, the pool structure is peaceful, and the Chateau is out in the country at the same time it is a peaceful, 10-minute drive to downtown Lowell. It just seemed like it was the first day for the whole staff after tge experienced staff disappeared.

Friends said that Chateau Merrimack’s previous incarnation, Stonehedge, was much more expansive with a better restaurant and far fewer cacancies. As it was, we were there in the middle of the summer and, while we enjoyed the quiet of few guests, we also wondered how the staff might accommodate a wedding or convention.

Our room was beautiful and the hotel itself was peaceful, but the staff and service were uneven, even slipshod, and we were glad that we weren’t depending on the hotel for internet or food.

Needed some quiet time away. Nice and quiet hotel with great little touches like soaking tubs and super comfortable beds and pillows. Nothing super fancy and clearly a little dated but the environment screams comfort and old money. Clearly in its time this place would be a place only wealthy could afford but now its a place where working people can get some comfort, relaxation, and great environment (spa, pool,walking and outdoor spaces) in close prominity to our regular busy lives.
Could be a great work conference place or like me a little get away from normal life.

This is clearly a property in the middle of transition and not yet ready to host guests at their marketed price point. Landscaping beds are overgrown and brick parking at the lobby is grass filled. The restaurant is closed. No evening food is available at the property. The room looks similar to the pictures but has dust and dirt in corners indicating long time of no use and/or need of deep cleaning. We did not check out the pool as we left the property for food. The “gym” consists of an out of date treadmill and dumbbells. Free WiFi is unsecured and nonfunctional.

We arrived an hour before the official check-in time and, although the room was ready, we were still charged a $50 early check-in fee. Throughout our stay, the room temperature remained at 59 degrees, even after we requested—three separate times—for it to be adjusted to 70. This was during the summer, which made it especially uncomfortable. Additionally, our towels were never refreshed during our entire stay from Wednesday to Saturday. I had higher expectations and believe there’s definitely room for improvement.

Wasn’t horrible. Wasn’t great. The grounds were poorly maintained. The gym was the size of my closet with no wipes to clean off the machines. The halls were super dark like they expected Scooby and Shaggy to show up. The breakfast was the worst. I’ve literally had better at a holiday inn. There was one random container of cheerios, bagels with no bagel cutter, it was awful. The part that got me was $4 for two (yes two) oreos. The coffee pods were stale. It was just really unfortunate.

On a brighter note, the room was nice. A good size. The wifi for the tv was spotty. There was a disposable razor left in our shower.

It did the trick, but luckily I don’t have to stay there again. I was desperate.

Very misleading website. Touted a completely renovated interior and exterior. Parts we're refurbished, but when you walked in there was a musty smell and clear it needed work. We arrived early at 2 pm ahead of 4pm check in, we were told check in is at 4 (which is fine). However no offer to hold our bags. They said the pool was open, but was very dirty from pollen (it was an enclosed pool). Others in our group arrived 345 and were told to wait until 4 for check in. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Overall, not a luxury stay. Misleading website. Not worth the money.

As everything looked nice, some it is quite lacking. Some of the landscaping was quite terrible plants coming through the brick work. A fountain found on the property was in need of care. Pathways were not clearly defined. The fact that the restaurant was not stocked, could not have food we actually wanted. The breakfast was not the best. No one staffed at the spa. The roof of the pool was dirty. The area around the pool not very welcoming.

the water from the tub immediately ran yellow and really freaked me out. i got this hotel specifically for the whirlpool tub and was very disappointed and grossed out. the water did eventually run clear, but i was still disgusted by the thought of bathing in the residue. i went to the front desk to try and see if i could receive a refund or even just have someone clean my tub. i was told no refunds and that house keeping leaves at 4, so there is no one to clean my tub. i was very upset. i was only staying the one night, so i didn’t have time to wait for the next day to take a bath in the tub i paid an excessive amount for. I had to take matters into my own hands, find the nearest store and buy bleach and cleaning supplies, and clean the tub myself. i feel like my request was not difficult, to ask for the tub to be cleaned, but i was told it could not be met. the breakfast was a joke. with what appeared to be only decades old cherios. i am frustrated with this app and the experience it gave me. i feel like the resort was falsely advertised. i did not see a spa. your description claimed there would be a resturant/bar. i saw where it was supposed to be but the entire place was literally vacant. there was a total of 2 workers in the entire resort when i arrived, and they both happened to be very unhelpful and inconsiderate. this app made it seem very nice, and the hotel ended up ruining my “relaxing” anniversary

The area was beautiful and great accessibility, everything about 10mins away. Property was also gorgeous and would be lovely when the weather warms up. We were a little surprised that when we arrived early (around 1pm) and checked if our room was available, but was told that early check-in cost $50/hr. That’s almost the price of our room for the night… no one else was at the hotel and the room was available. I said we would just check in at 4pm and the associate just left me at the check in desk and went to the back room. It would have been nice if she offered to hold our luggage or recommended the attached restaurant… did not feel hospitable IMO. The pool and spa were not connected to the hotel, but were nice. Breakfast was a huge disappointment, but lovely locally owned places nearby - recommend Mami Luz for brunch!

The suite was horrible. The Jacuzzis didn't work. The furniture in the suite was filthy. I wasted my money. I came for the Jacuzzis and in two different rooms the Jacuzzis were not working.

Having never been in the area before, Chateau Merrimack was an ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL stay! From ambiance to decor, gorgeous! Friendly staff and clean/ fresh rooms! I could swear we were the first people to use the room!

From check in it was stressful. Supposed to be a relaxing weekend but the front desk staff ended up triggering my disability because of a service animal due to the staff not being educated about the ADA and it was not enjoyable OR RELAXING. Place is run down. Restaurant/bar food and drinks were good. They were about the only positive thing about the place. Didn’t even get to make an appointment with the Spa because of the trigger so I cannot rate that.

we booked 2 rooms for our family. the ladies at the front desk when we arrived were amazing, very helpful and sweet. the rooms were very nice and clean. the pool was a short walk away in another building it was so much fun the entire family loved it! The yellow couch opens up into a sleeper which worked out perfectly because i forgot my sons bed rail. the cons were that they did not have additional towels or an additional blanket to provide which was disappointing. the breakfast was okay it was more so family style not a buffett like i am used to when staying at hotels but this was also a much smaller place than i anticipated.

Not worth it at all

Very disappointed. Pool area was run down and dirty. Hot tub wasn’t working and we were told mainteance didn’t work weekends so there was nothing they could do. Hotel restaurant didn’t open the day we were there but nobody told us, ended up having to scramble to find somewhere to have dinner. Very disappointing since we had planned on eating at the hotel. Front desk staff was unapologetic. Room was clean and spacious.

Very short on staff—- has a ripple effect.
The staff was very nice BUT not always accessible, for example, the front desk host who checked us in, also was responsible for the pool (separate building), any room requests etc.
Our suite was dirty- chips on the patio from previous guests, jacuzzi tub was dirty with dust piled in jets (health violation), the bar and restaurant were closed, with no heads-up. Walk to the pool was DARK and no towels- we had to walk back to the main building in cold darkness to get more towels. The grounds were over grown and no spring clean up had been done.
Someone who likes the dark and quiet with no staff available for service may enjoy this. Not luxurious (patched ceiling in bathroom and peeling wallpaper in room). The bed was comfortable.

The website doesn't tell you that they have their restaurant and bar area closed. You can only order room service. The hot tub is also out of order. The grounds are beautiful but not well maintained. The continental breakfast was super disappointing. It's a beautiful hotel but it seems like a new owner took it over and isn't giving it to her level of care it needs. It's a shame because it has so much potential.

It was beautiful - the rooms were well done!

The hotel did not inform us upon booking that the restaurant/bar would be closed. This is one of the reasons we chose this location - a getaway and not having to drive anywhere for a drink and dinner. We were quite upset that this was not available.
