I understand that it was February, but the hotel was really not welcoming. The weather was nice, but there was not really any table and chairs outside apart a few in front the main area. The swimming pool was closed, what it's normal for February, but with a fence around it. It really looks terrible! At some point, it was sunny and I wanted to work outside, there was not table and chair near our bedroom where the wifi signal was good, so we had to choice that going where we can find some table and chairs outside the bar and the reception area, where the wifi signal was very inconsistant. I can see on my laptop that there was another wifi signal for the events, that one appeared to be strong and good. I asked to the reception if there was a way for them to give me the code as the general wifi was not keeping cutting and I can't sit near our bedroom where there was not table and chair outside, the person at the reception replied frankly: NO, it's not possible. I was not happy and he told me he was going to ask his manager. I came back 10 mins later, nothing, it was clear that he didn't ask... I expressed very clearly how I was disappointed not necessary about the weak wifi signal, but more about the fact that the staff at the reception was clearly ignoring us, they even didn't pretend. I was told that someone from management will get back to us, we left the following day and nobody came back to us. Extremely disappointed. Also, if you've got children, it's not a family hotel!

Restaurant was buffet style and above average. Staff was pleasant and helpful. AC in the room was underwhelming and non existent at some times causing me to awake in the middle of the night sweating. The rooms were clean and presentable.

If the very helpful Concha had not been at this hotel then the stay would have had a minus figure for a review. Concha’s hard work and conscientiousness was limited by the people around her.

The reception desk was mostly helpful but some not:
1. On enquiry about the semi-inclusive option Nadia told me it was available only to group bookings. A later enquiry directed at another clerk explained the daily rate and minimum requirement of a 7 night subscription.
2. We had repeated issues with vegetarian meals - Nadia was short and unhelpful.
Daily restaurant issues - unsuitable for vegetarian
All standard options were for non-veg.
I had to make a request every morning.
1. Some days I had just a salad.
2. Given a plate of uncooked bland tofu.
3. plant-based burger and other plant-based items with a few veg.
4. wraps with roasted vegetables and bland tofu but no seasoning whatsoever.
5. One day reception told me that it was not possible to cater for a vegetarian.
6. One good meal - lasagne
It was very much a a luck of the draw on who was at reception and who was in the kitchen.
Hotel Room -AC did not work (fixed on day 2) but
very ineffective. The room was warm; no option to adjust the AC controls.
Suitability for families?
Kids club is seasonal.
nothing for young children to do.
If you have a car you could find activities; without a car you could easily spend Euro100 per day on taxi alone.
Restaurant opens at 7.30pm - too late for young children.

Good comes to mind, nothing bad, but simply good.

This was a break from our normal Hotels, so, it was a bit different in terms of experience. All we can say is there was nothing intrinsically wrong with this hotel but nothing that made us say, wow! One thing that we did like was the Spa as the facilities were great and the service second to none. We are not used to buffet evening meals and the experience didn't enthuse us to go back, or, take that type of option in the future.

For me - once is enough

I stayed for 8 nights.

I will start with the positives:

1. Extremely clean, everywhere.
2. Both Pool areas are great. Private, tranquil.
3. Restaurants are very nice, breakfast is very good.
4. Spa area is very nice.
5. Beds are extremely comfortable.
6. Showers are hot.

Not so good:

1. Rooms are tired - need updates. Uncomfortable chairs and stained grout in the floor tiles.
2. It is extremely noisy in the rooms. You can hear everyone in the hallway, outside the balcony, above you and next to you. I was near the entrance of the building and heard the door slamming all day.
3. The gym is in need of an update. The elliptical had duct taped handles and the rest of the machines were also worn.
4. Although there is ample parking available on sight, they charge you 15€ to use it. Most people opt to park on the street. A nuisance fee for guests.
5. Two of the three employees I interacted with at the front desk were rude and unhelpful - actually rather disinterested.
6. The air conditioning unit in the room was worthless. The room was mostly humid and damp, and the AC did not keep it cool. The thermostat looked like it was 20 years old. There are no fans and the front desk, when I said the AC wasn’t working replied - do you really want someone to check it?

I love the Barceló brand and use it frequently. Sadly, this location has made me want to look elsewhere. Maybe because it was August and they are busy regardless.

The hotel was very nice and clean! The food inside the hotel restaurants was amazing and at a decent price. However, the room became very hot at night time. The golf course view from the room was amazing. Playing the course was decently priced as well. Plenty of parking and in a very quiet location. The only complaint would be the a/c not working at night.

It has been a great experience and the jacuzzi at the balcony was a wonderful addition to the already very satisfying short trip.
And then the golf course was so near. Just needed less than two hour to finish the 9 holes of par 3.

Excellent hotel. The staff were very helpful. The room was very nice. Wonderful breakfast buffet was complimentary. The dinner buffet was good but over-priced. Pool was nice. I couldn't get into the fitness center, but we did go before the summer season really got under way. The surrounding shops were not yet open. Hours of operation for shops and restaurants took some getting used to for Americans, but that's the way Europe operates.

Worth a visit!

A great stay in a good hotel in a quiet and beautiful resort. Not much life in the evenings but the most relaxing holiday venue with a never ending beach!
The hotel had great food and excellent, very clean, refurbished rooms (2018).
The staff were great and did everything they could to please.
A very spanish hotel, which was great!

Nice hotel in an amenable location, in the middle of a golf course in Rota. Walking distance from the beach, walkable neighborhood, close to shopping mall, but not a big one. The room was smaller than I expected, the breakfast good but not outstanding. Just a good experience.

The hotel and location was overall good. The room was clean and beds comfortable. Dining and use of the bar was convenient and food was great.
I didn't give 5 stars because I arrived on a Sunday (day before reporting to Naval base) only to find out that the hotel did not have an iron. Having to hunt for an iron on a Sunday when most places are closed was a complete headache.

The hotel staff is amazing and very helpful at even providing ideas of places to visit nearby. Mr. Manuel from the breakfast buffet was the highlight of the place. His willingness to prepare you food with a great attitude was really nice. I would come back to this hotel at any time. You can visit towns and cities like Rota, Cadiz, Sevilla, Jerez de la Frontera, different pueblos blancos and even Gibraltar from here. We definitely had a very good time during our stay.

Stayed here for work. Close to base and Jerez airport. Not hard to get to. There are some good paths with the golf course and beach front close by. Room is spacious and in decent shape. The breakfast was on point. No valid reason to walk away hungry from that.

Also had to pay approx $10/Day to park at the hotel. Pools were beautiful. Nice bar area. Friendly staff.

Great hotel with brilliant facilities.

We stayed here for 3 nights half board as a family 'get-away'. The hotel was great, well looked after and the service was fantastic.

The HB food was a very high standard for 'buffet' fare whilst the on site entertainment for the children (we didn't get a chance to try the adult entertainment) was great with staff who clearly understood what it takes to look after a variety of age groups and confidence levels.

We are already looking at when we might go back here!

Chosen as close to Cadiz and Jerez. It was a good size clean room. Lots of tour groups meant restaurant was stretched and very noisy. Had to ask for a quiet time to eat. If you don't ask reception you will not get English TV. Whole neighbourhood empty and spooky as all closed up until season starts. Most looked derelict and abandoned. staff very helpful. Glad we stayed on first floor as ground floor had a bad lingering sewage smell.

Outstanding Customer service.

It was an amazing stay even though I was not able to use the spa. Breakfast and Dinner were both great! Kudos to the Lead Chef for having an awesome TEAM!
Placed the \"Do not Disturb\" sign and left for work, but when I walked in, my bed was made and the room was clean. This happened the whole three days I was there. I just hope that they provided coffee and tea bags in the room.

We stayed during the off-season, and though the person at the front desk told us where to find lots of different restaurants, they were all closed. He also told us he was giving us free parking (he didn't), and said he would give us a deal on the hotel's buffet for dinner... but we're pretty sure that was still more than it should have cost. We ended up ordering room service (from a very limited menu) just so we could get dinner for less than 30 Euro per person.

I do think it would be better in the summer. The hotel and beach are nice, the golf course looks pretty, it was very inexpensive. However, the bathroom door doesn't really close (there is about a two-inch gap between the door and the wall), the buffet breakfast isn't very good, and they didn't provide sheets in the room for the pull-out bed. The employees also don't speak very good English -- the attendant at the gas station nearby is about 100 times better -- but they insisted in speaking to us in English instead of Spanish, which I can understand and my traveling partner speaks fluently.

Ordered a double bed thru ebookers and paid for it and got given two single beds and ended up on the floor twice as celebrating our engagement and want to cuddle. No double beds on site we were told. No available water fountains anywhere even at dinner and had to order a bottle which arrives without a lid and expect it is just tap water.

Costa Ballena beach trip!

We stayed for 8 nights. The room was rather small for 3 solo sleepers - me and my two sons aged 13 and 25. The shower sprayed all over the floor each time we showered, so that was kind of a bummer. The gift shop was only open limited hours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The food was good in the buffet, but the hours of operation took getting used to for Americans - dinner started at 20;00. The beach is AMAZING and we spent a lot of time there. The pools are lovely, especially the child pool. On the weekends the place was quite lively, during the week quieter.

Costa Valleys beach is amazing, especially at sunset. Great base to explore south eastern Spain.
If staying outside the peak season the outdoor pools are not maintained so are unavailable.
No tea/coffee facilities as standard.

I stayed for 1 night whilst passing on a short notice last minute booking. I arrived and was welcomed by very pleasant staff and quickly checked in. Room was fantastic. Large and very comfortable bed, nicely furnished and all mod cons you'd expect in such a nice resort. The room overlooked the pool area and golf course and had I had more time would have made use of them! Breakfast was included in my rate and was very good. Large buffet selection that should suit most tastes. Didn't see much of the town, although noticed a supermarket, couple of cafes etc. Overall, very nice stay!

The hotel is pleasant and the food is good. The location is not central and you need a car to go around including to the beach. If you need to eat go to Chipiona where you will find a lot of restaurants. Do not eat at the restaurant on the beach called Poniente as you will be very disappointed with both quantity, quality and price

I had a wonderful 14 day stay at Barcelo Costa Ballena, The staff was nice and everyone spoke English and made me feel at home. What i didn't like was the wifi service. I was staying on business and I needed to use more than 1 device for wifi service. The dinner buffet was great with the many choices, and the dessert was great as well. The breakfast buffet needs a little more variety and more choices. The Bar was excellent and the pool was great, as well as the views of the garden and Golf course. I would return to BCB!

Quiet Getaway Off-the-Beaten-Path

I stayed here during the off-season and got a great deal at a well-appointed, resort-type hotel with a beautiful golf course. The staff were nothing but friendly and accomodating. My room was clean, comfortable - nice, but nothing to brag about really. The bathroom, however, was very modern. This place is located a bit farther from Rota than others of similar comfort, but is great if you're looking for something away from the \"hustle and bustle\". I'd definitely visit again.

It was low season and there was hardly anyone at the hotel or in the area. The service from all the employees, especially the restaurant and bar staff, was exceptional. Very friendly and concerned with service and making sure we had everything we needed. However the front desk crew did not speak English which made it hard to communicate. The food at the breakfast buffet was average, sometimes just luke warm. But always a good variety to choose from. We did not eat dinner at the hotel. The lobby and bar area is very nice and appears to been fairly newly remodeled. The rooms have not been. The walls in the room was dirty, the bedding is old and very worn. The walls are very thin so you hear everything that is going on around your room. The leg fell off our bed and we had to move out of our room for one night until they could come fix it the next day. The staff never apologized to us for the inconvenience. There is only one English speaking channel available on the TV (BBC). The walk to the beach is very short and we could see the ocean just past the golf course from our room, great sunsets from our room and the bar area. If you are a golfer (which we are not) the golf course was just a few minute walks away. Being slow season the buses were running on a limited schedule. So getting into and returning form Rota was a bit of an inconvenience. We were not happy at all with the gym. The hours are extremely limited (they open at 10 am and close from 2-5 for siesta, they were closed on Mondays and very limited weekend hours. The Internet seemed to be down at least once a day. The rooms have a small refrigerator which we really appreciated.

Weekend get AWAY

Checked in for a four day holiday, Friday-Monday in May. The hotel was very busy for a off season stay. Friday & Saturday the Breakfast and Dinner was great. Breakfast was hot with plenty to choose and Dinner, Buffet style with 3 meats a poultry and fish to choose from. However, on Sunday the crowds left and the dinner was order \"off the menu\". The serving portions were very, very small without any sides just a meat choice. The food situation was better during the weekend. For your stay get the breakfast and dinner added in to your room only if your there for the weekend otherwise add in breakfast and walk the .5 miles to the outdoor resturants that were great for lunch too. Stay was nice and relaxing, walls are very thin so if your getting away from the kids for the weekend ask the front desk for a secluded room. Spoke english, Bus that ran to Rota for site seeing, great stay and worth the cost.

Es la tercera vez que me alojo en este hotel, y en esta ocasión la experiencia no ha sido tan positiva como en las dos ocasiones anteriores. A nuestra llegada nos anunciaron que éramos los clientes VIP del día y tendríamos unas amenities en la habitación. Cuando llegamos a la habitación, había una bolsa de patatas fritas y una de almendras del minibar encima de una repisa, acompañadas de una carta de la Dirección del hotel. Esas eran las amenities por ser VIP. Habría sido mejor no hacer nada, la verdad. Al comunicarlo al responsable como feedback constructivo, tomaron nota, pero tampoco hicieron nada al respecto. La calidad del buffet ha bajado mucho. El tomate triturado era de lata a granel, la leche sin lactosa tenías que calentártela tú mismo en el microondas porque los camareros no servían nada en la mesa, y los productos sin gluten estaban todos metidos en una cesta a modo de revoltijo, abiertos y con papel de film como si fueran de uso particular. Una vergüenza para ser un Barceló de 4 estrellas. Al comentarlo al encargado del comedor, su respuesta fue: así es como se hace aquí. Y se quedó tan tranquilo.
Cada vez que alguien de las habitaciones colindantes salía de su habitación, nuestras camas vibraban como si hubiera un terremoto. También lo comunicamos para que Mantenimiento revisara las puertas, pero nada se hizo al respecto.
Las instalaciones están bien, y siempre fue un hotel agradable, pero claramente la dirección y gestión ha cambiado, y no está a la altura.

Habitaciones amplias y muy limpias, buenas vistas al campo de golf y excelente atención de todos los trabajadores del hotel. Lo único malo es que el parking que estaba completamente vacío era de pago, un detalle que no nos gustó para una cadena de hoteles del nivel de Barceló. Das Hotel hat unsere Erwartungen leider nicht erfüllt. Im Zimmer angekommen waren diverse Mängel vorhanden (Klospülung defekt, die Beleuchtung fiel aus, Betten bewegten sich hin und her da auf Rollen, Klimaanlage könnte nicht geregelt werden, etc.). Der „Front Desk“ war mitsamt das unfreundlichste und arroganteste das wir auf unsere 10 tägigen Reise getroffen haben und hat erst mit Nachdruck auf Beschwerden reagiert. Wir geben dieses Hotel definitiv keine 4 Sterne.

Fint och lugnt läge vid golfbanan.

Allmänt trevlig och serviceinriktad personal. Bekväma rum och mycket bra sängar. Tyvärr små trånga uteplatser.

Poolerna öppnar sent.

Frukost varierad och bra. Saknade dock mörkt bröd. Logistiken fungerade bra. Hög ljudnivå i matsalen. Tyvärr ingen servering av frukost utomhus, trots att vädret var utmärkt. En av servitörerna var också petig med att vi inte efter frukost fick ta ut kaffe i annat än pappersmuggar (inte porslinskoppar) på terassen.

Middagsbuffén tyckte vi också var varierad, men samma anmärkning som ovan. Trots en utomhustemperatur på mellan 20-25 grader och strålande sol fanns ingen möjlighet att äta middagen utomhus. Vi åt mest fisk och var inte helt nöja med det kött som tillagades.

En prisvärd sak till middagen var hotellets drink package. Två personer 11 Euro för en flaska av husets röda, vita eller rosé vin, alternativt två glas per person av valfri dryck.

Många i personalen talade tyvärr inget annat språk än engelska.

El hotel está bien pero el buffet que nosotros teníamos comida y cena nos resultó muy repetitivo para estar 7 días. Además íbamos con niños y la animación es muy escasa en la piscina.Yo no volvería con niños. El personal es muy agradable

Hotel que podría ser mucho más de lo que es. Los trabajadores son súper amables y cercanos, pero El socorrista inexistente (la chica que había SI hacía su trabajo), pasaba la mayor parte del tiempo perdido y sin atender la piscina, dejaba a los niños salpicar y molestar mediante gritos y juegos a todas las personas que estaban allí para descansar y relajarse, personas haciendo top less delante de niños y no pasaba nada. Respecto a la cubertería, 1 de cada dos cubiertos sucios, repugnante. Los espectáculos de noche, cutres y en horario de 22 a 23 h, hora a la que en ESPAÑA solemos cenar; y después de eso a dormir, porque no hay nada más que puedas hacer. Llegue con buenas expectativas pero no se han cumplido en absoluto. Voy con pensión completa y ahora tengo que pagar la bebida que pida, que una botella de agua de grifo te la ponen por 3,2 €. No se le ponen normas a las personas que vienen de fuera y al final lo pagamos las personas que vamos a relajarnos con nuestra familia o pareja, ya que al final, ni nos relajamos ni disfrutamos. En resumen, no vuelvo a ir, decepción y dinero tirado a la basura, te toman por tonto y te inflan el precio de los servicios que ofrecen, en mi caso.

Tiene muy buenas calidades, instalaciones, personal súper amable y todo perfecto excepto el servicio de buffet. Cogí media pensión pensando que iba a ser como el de playa ballena o el del best hotel de la zona. Nos gustaría probar este hotel este fin de semana y nuestra sorpresa fue la comida pésima de calidad casi todo congelado. Además de muy poca variedad y platos frios
Por todo lo demás muy bien pero la comida deja un poco que desear.

Es un hotel que se anuncia como Golf & Spa
El golf no es parte del Hotel y no existe tarifa presencial. El Spa tiene un servicio y horario muy limitado. La playa está retirada del Hotel.
El buffet del desayuno es bueno, pero la estación de Omelettes magnifica la prelación.
El personal amable.
