Buffet - great selection. Problem is tha breakfast was not available until 8.00am and everyone staying at the hotel had to be at a local tournament by 8.30am. They should have been more helpful at opening earlier.
Secondly the car parking is now charged for all guests - and on every entry / exit. It was free last year.

We stayed at the hotel the Playa De La Luz while visiting our daughter station at the naval base in Rota. We enjoyed our stay the resort is nice and the atmosphere was very laid back. We had breakfast included in our package, and it was well worth it. The pools are nice the beach had way to much seaweed for our liking but it is still a beautiful setting to be on the beach. Parking could also be better, we parked on the outside of the hotel as it can be costly to stay in the hotel parking lot. All in all we had an amazing stay there.

The hotel was spacious, clean & well maintained. I would highly recommend, the pools, beach & rooftop adult pool/beach club was very nice. Reception staff was coldly polite & not especially helpful, they did not make recommendations, etc. The cleaning staff is amazing! The woman who cleaned our room daily made the bed perfectly, was warm, funny, kind & patient with us. The location was good-we had a car, they have paid parking available. However, just outside the gate there is plenty of free street parking, in nice neighborhood. If you want a lounge chair on the beach, be aware the charge is €12 p/p per day. Rota was lovely, lots of good food & lovely locals.

I went to a Rota Naval Base school reunion which was hosted by the Playa de la Luz Hotel. They did an excellent job. My one complaint is that our room bill was very difficult to decipher, and after I figured it out it turned out they were charging for an extra night! In short, excellent friendly hotel, but confusing bill at check out.

One item different from U.S. properties is that neither of the pools is heated and there is no hot tub. The pools were too cold to use in January but the sun deck on roof of the beach club building was semi-protected from the winds.

The property is large, beautiful, and serene. The front desk was always available, friendly and helpful. There's a couple restaurants on site. Both have great food! The one by the pool is great to hang out and watch your kids swim while you eat. It's right on the beach so you can practically walk out of your room and onto the beach! It's a great place! I stay here quite a bit for work trips. The grounds and rooms are always clean. Renovation of the pool and restaurant area were completed about 18 months ago and really looks great. Breakfast bar variety is better than most European hotel options, roomy and great service. The gym is decent for a European gym for sure with good variety of basic equipment. Pool closed in winter but lively during summer. Shower pressure was good this time as the shower head was updated in this one where others and sometimes lacking pressure. The room has the twin single beds which I still don’t understand but common.. the beds are a little hard but super clean and comfortable nonetheless.

My wife and I returned to Spain after being gone for 30 years. The navy base at Rota has grown immensely. The town increased along with the population growth. Hotel Playa de la Luz in its hey day must have been incredible. It is still a very good Hotel with an outstanding staff. I have never seen such dedication to keeping the grounds beautiful. My only complaint would be that it is time to invest in modernizing the rooms. We were upgraded to a suite which was wonderful. The room more than served our needs as we basically used it as a place to sleep. We were right on the ocean so listening to the waves every night was amazing. The breakfast buffet offered many choices for any dietary needs. There are two other restaurants to dine in. La Gaviota is a hit more fancy, but Dos Mares offers some great drinks and dinner selections. All in all, my wife are enjoying our 37th anniversary in Spain. Viva España!

As an English speaking traveler, I felt the staff was not very helpful when we were struggling with Covid symptoms and needed medical assistance. After 2x to the medical clinic we were sent to the hospital, by the reception staff, then the hospital staff who told us to go home. Found out we were supposed to call a # to report our cases, but they don’t speak English on the telephone. So I don’t think Spain is ready for travelers form the US. We loved Rota and the hotel was clean, safe and our rooms we charming. We even had a sitting room. Housekeeping staff was very kind and helpful. We would come back , but not during Covid!

Beautiful hotel and perfect vacation location. A 30 minute walk from city center, so a little remote, but we like it that way. Everything we needed was on-site. We stayed in early October, the weather was great and less people. I imagine it is pretty crowed July thru August.

The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The property is right on the beach with approximately 1.5 miles of flat beach on either side. Nice bars and restaurants on property and several within a mile walking distance and a couple right on the beach. My room was cleaned and straightened every day and the staff is very friendly and accommodating!

Have added another night as enjoying the hotel and the area. Carmen our housekeeper is fabulous! Only, disappointing item was dinner at Dos Mares restaurant by the pool. Service was very good but the quality of the food dismal. Would NOT recommend eating there. Las Gaviotas on the other hand has amazing food and service but is only open until 16:30 for meals. We came not knowing how long we'd want to be here and now are coming up to a week tomorrow ☺️ very nice.

Playa De La Luz is a great place to stay in Rota. This was our second time in the last year (trip was for business). The hotel restaurants are nice options and there are two within walking distance in town that are also great. One item to note however- they are currently doing renovations on their buildings so you may experience some noise during the day.

Was moved to another room when original developed water leak due to renovations on floor above. New room was even better, large balcony, lots of space in the room itself. Everything was great. We were upgraded next to the beach just like I asked, except the thermostat in our room was broken and it got a little cold that night. Otherwise it would have been a perfect experience. Overall would stay again.

I'm not a Manchego connoisseur, but my significant other is, we were partly in Spain for a cheese tour. It was very disappointing to get that plate - she didn't even eat it after the first couple of bites. I asked the waitress if they had a plate that was freshly cut from the block, or just the block itself... Nothing. That was disappointing customer service.
Bathtub did the trick, and the WiFi worked well enough. I went for a swim in the morning, beach is ok, water was not clear, but nice temps. Shower heads calcified.

The lobby smelled of jasmine and the staff were so friendly. When we arrived we were informed we received an upgrade to an ocean view.. the grounds were well kept With beautiful flowers and lush greenery. The only small issue was the pool bar/restaurant. It is understandable to be busy and it can take a bit of time for the waitstaff to serve you however we were ignored for almost an hour while other guests were acknowledged and served. Besides that small issue the place is great and we definitely will return.

I stayed at Playa de la Luz for almost 2 weeks while in Rota for work. This is my second time staying here and I won't be back. My room smelled like a sewer most of the time. When I told them at the front desk, all they did was send maintenance to spray air freshener in the ventilation system. They also have a problem with ants. I had to have my bed linens changed after returning to my room at the end of the day to a bedspread swarming with them. Also, room amenities are lacking. There isn't even a tea kettle to make coffee/tea in the morning. This used to be a nice hotel but it is in decline.
