The hotel is located in the heart of downtown Guadalajara, and it’s a great deal for the price. I had a wonderful time until I returned from a night out. It was dark, and all the doors were locked. I had to call the hotel, and the night guard/receptionist was not very helpful. I left my keys at the desk when I went out, and he asked me a bunch of questions, but not the right ones. I gave him my room number, my ID, and my reservation on my phone, but he still gave me a hard time. I just wanted to go to my room. He kept telling me I was in the wrong room and had me standing there at 3 a.m. Finally, he gave me a key, but it was the wrong one. I had to go back downstairs to get the right key. The hotel is great, but the night guard made the whole experience a bit unpleasant. I will stay here again because it’s a beautiful hotel, but hope that part of my experience doesn’t happen again.

The Del Carmen is great facility with very helpful staff, beautiful comfortable rooms, and a good location. I would highly recommend the “chia” restaurant for its food, service, community vibe and its manager Morris (sp?). The only con was that the front desk does not appear to be 24 / 7 and we arrived late, due to a delayed flight.

Fantastic location. Del Carmen is right in the middle of restaurants and shopping and just a short walk to Guadalajara's historic centre.
The attached restaurant provides great value and we enjoyed both our lattes and breakfast. I highly recommend Del Carmen.

The elevator was broken and stairs did not have enough light. The towels were nor very confortable and the room itself is designed in a way that was not comfortable. The restaurant was great and the location is ideal, very close to the cetro historico.

The room was well decorated with cool art. Staff seemed really nice…but that’s about it. Our key worked half the time. The other half we had to get someone from the staff to let us in since the key would not work. They said they were going to get a locksmith to fix the issue but that never happened. Also, it is very loud with the lobby/restaurant downstairs. They set up a weekend brunch nice and early and you can hear all the table being dragged and set up. And last but not least, we had no hot water to shower with the last two days. Would not recommend and will not be back.

The hotel concept is charming, we stayed there before. BUT currently in 2022 several of the hotel items (elevators, phones, TVs) are broken or in need a major repairs. The roof leaks in some rooms.
What’s more frustrating is that hotel administration is dismissive and unresponsive of the guests concerns, and request. While the day-to-day staff is nice, they can’t solve most issues and only provide an email address for the “supervisor” who was supposedly out of town, didn’t bother to reply an email explaining several of the hotel issues.
The hotel staff doubles up as the restaurant staff (Chai), so it seems like the restaurant downstairs is the main priority and the hotel rooms are mostly ignored. Please avoid this hotel until the management decides to resolve the leaky room, the broken elevator, the lack of internet, and the broken phone and no signal TVs!

El concepto de hotel es encantador, nos alojamos antes allí. PERO actualmente en 2022, varios de los elementos del hotel (ascensores, teléfonos, teles) están descompuestos o necesitan reparaciones URGENTES. El techo gotea en algunas habitaciones.
Lo que es más frustrante es que la administración del hotel es desdeñosa y no responde a las preocupaciones y solicitudes de los huéspedes.
Si bien el personal en el hotel es cortes no pueden resolver la mayoría de los problemas
¡Evite este hotel hasta que la gerencia decida resolver las fugas, el ascensor roto, la falta de Internet, el teléfono roto y TV sin señal!

The rooms are super cute. Very unique and trendy. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
We also loved that lots of attractions were walking distance (la catedral, el Mercado San Juan de Dios, y Hospicio Cabañas).
There were a few problems with the climate in our room. It had a strong smell of humidity and it was super hot. But the staff was super helpful and accommodated us in a different room right away. Also, there is a restaurant downstairs so be ready to wear earplugs if you do not wish to be woken up by the noise in the early morning.

The rooms were absolutely stunning and it was a great location, but it was so loud it wasn't worth it. There's restaurant noise from 7 am-12 am and between those time, the staff downstairs had loud music playing and were singing at the top of their lungs. From midnight to 7 am. Earplugs and white noise could only do so much, and it would be impossible to take a nap during the day with the loud music. Beautiful place, but disappointed with the execution.

The individual room decor was unique and user friendly. Unfortunately, the hot water was unreliable and the room safe wasn't functional. Also, I would recommend that earplugs be provided for the two rooms that face the front of the property - street noise is heavy and the windows don't insulate for sound.

Hotel above noisy restaurant

Lovely building and room but we hadn’t realised this was above a noisy restaurant. Loud music from 8am until 10.30pm both nights. Access is through the restaurant. We also had no hot water in the mornings.

For the same money there are better places in Guadalajara.

The staff were friendly, my room was clean, and the food from the restaurant was good. However, the property operates more as a restaurant versus a hotel. The rooms are above the restaurant, and the noise is constant from early morning to late at night. Breakfast set up starts around 6 am and is very loud, so sleeping past 6 am is impossible.

Great Staff But They Locked Me Out!!!

Let’s start with the good: the staff and maid, Sylvia, were extra sweet. They were all so friendly and helpful.

Now for the bad: the first night I had no hot water and the phone in the room did not work. The second night I had hot water but it took for the entire duration of my stay 10-12 minutes to heat up. Cold water would just pour until even luke-warm water would come out.

On Wednesday night I stayed out past 1:30am and had was locked out of the hotel. Thankfully they heard my knocks and the front desk manager woke up and let me in. This happened again on Thursday night but this time I had to sleep at my friends hotel a mile away because at 3:30am no one was awake and didn’t answer our constant knocks and phone calls. When i complained and asked for one night credit they instead offered me a free breakfast which i never received ( i still think I am owed one nights credit).

Finally when I checked out this morning at 6:45am i had to wake the front desk up and he couldn’t give me a copy of my folio as the manager had to draw it up for me.

I understand they are a boutique hotel and it is super cute place but they need to do a little better in terms of making sure there is 24 hour access to the hotel.

I love the unique decor in every room . Staff is amazing 😉 delicious food from below Chai restaurant . It is central location in downtown. The Church across from it is beautiful. The cleaning Lady is fabulous. The bed is confortable. The sheets are nice. The price is right. The area is ok not the best area but it is downtown close to everything just Uber everywhere and I had no issues.

Best Hotel in downtown Guadalajara

This hotel is small, quaint and absolutely charming. The staff here is incredibly helpful, and a few speak perfect English. The associated restaurant, Chai, has a delicious menu - I haven't eaten anywhere else in the 2 weeks I've been here. There are only 8 or 9 rooms (I have stayed in two of them). I would recommend booking the master suite or a room that overlooks the park.

The property is beautiful and each room has a different theme which I loved . The restaurant Chi which is part of the hotel has very good food/. The only thing I was a little disappointed was that the property has no parking. Also one of the nights there was a lot of noise coming from the neighboring building which kept me up all night.

The property itself was nice. The unfortunate thing was the blaring car alarm that started at about 1:30 am to 7:30 am. Darn car alarm would go off every 5 minutes and last about 3 minutes. My wife did not get any sleep that night.

At check out, the hotel clerk apologized but said we should have called them so they could take some sort of action to locate the car's owner.

We are surprised that no other guest complained but we were probably the first to check out that morning.

Arty hotel in centre of old town

My husband and I arrived for a weekend visit. The room we got was overlooking the internal courtyard. The only natural light was by opening the shutters into the courtyard which meant you then lost privacy. They have a restaurant / bar in the internal courtyard and outside (which served excellent food by the way). I had a gastro issue unfortunately which meant I had to spend most of the weekend in my room. The first night there was so much noise coming from the bar (until 1am) but also construction noise which went for hours after that. Luckily I had ear plugs with me so that was all good. The next night no construction noise and the bar was much less busy. Maybe Friday nights the night! However on the upside the bed was the most comfortable bed I have slept in. The manager who was one of the few staff who spoke English was super kind when he realised I was ill and went out of his way to do things for us. We ate all but one meal at the hotel. The hotel is on a lovely plaza and has a large outdoor bar cafe area which was most enjoyable as no traffic near. The food and staff were excellent and the drinks were great. Despite the irritation the first night I would actually go back. But I would ask for a room with an external window next time. Every room is completely different and very clever designs. Very close to the historic centre public transport and some great restaurants.

Trying too hard for trendy, and some issues

The room is hip and trendy in appearance, but impractical to actually stay in if you're not alone. The bathroom is basically part of the bedroom, with the toilet in a little alcove to one side, the shower on the other side (water temperature goes up and down, so if that's an issue for you...), and the sink in front of the bed. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but there's a reason bath ROOMS are in a separate ROOM. There are things one wants to be discreet about even with a partner. This room design does not allow for that. The housekeeper, Raquel, is fantastic, friendly and does a great job!

The staff is friendly, but (as a small hotel owner myself) I would say not well trained in customer service and the front desk lacks the organization needed to facilitate good customer service.

The restaurant, Chai, is apparently a separate business, and here too, the service sometimes very inattentive. Not all... they have a couple of staff that are gems (Diego was friendly fun and attentive). Others seem just oblivious to their customers existence. Also, the restaurant can be quite noisy, especially on weekends. For light sleepers, this could be an issue.

It's not a terrible hotel, but does need some better management and training. Between that and the design issues that are not to my liking, I will stay elsewhere in future.

Probably the best place to stay in Guadalajara

The place is amazing, each room has a different decoration and style, it is simply spectacular, the price could not be better, the staff is incredible, they are nice and helpful, the restaurant in the hotel has great food and prices, and the location is amazing, close to everything in the downtown core, without being there in the craziness. It was the perfect place. I doubt you will find anything better than this for the price you pay.

Simple hotel recommended for tourism

The building is a nice one and the room design is also nice, however, I think it is a bad idea to have the same entrance for both customers CHAI cafe and customers for the hotel. The front desk people is the same for the CAFE than for the hotel sometimes they don't have an idea of hotel administration. The same day I made my check in I went directly to the front desk asking for: hand towel, 8 hangers, iron and informed the extensión in the room didn't work never got what I asked for. Also, one of the guys told me not to even try WiFi at the room cause they didn't have, however, when I made my check-out the guy who was there told me they did have WiFi at the rooms. Also, because of the earthquake in Mexico City I had to come back home a day before and made my check-out on Thursday instead of Friday, I called the hotel on Wednesday and explained the situation they said they could do anything to make a refund, however they would try to give me a pass for a next stay, this never happened. The only day I had dinner at their CHAI café the bread they gave me had mold. Also my room didn't have even a chair and the bed was not comfy.

All good, was very noisy al morning when the cafe downstairs does a breakfast buffet. I realy loved looking at the park accross from the hotel but couldn't have to windows open because people could see straight in the room and there were many people in the park all day (and night). All up good but not fantastic - probably wouldn't stay again mostly becase of people being able to see in the room.

Pretty on the surface but not a hotel.

The hotel is very pretty in the pictures and the rooms live up to that image but it is skin deep. It is simply not functional to stay in. Also, while it is part of the Historical Centro district, thee drug addicts and prostitutes and other unsavory characters in the park outside make feel less than safe. On the inside, the light switches make no sense and are in the wrong place. The light for the bathroom vanity is at the front door. Sometimes I could get that light to come on along but after a couple of days all the lights in the room came on with that one switch. Nothing is marked. There are no hand towels in the bathroom area. The shower is large and pretty but there is only a place for a bar of soap. No other place to put anything. Also, while it has a pretty shower head the water pressure is no sufficient to really feel like you are getting a shower or can rinse. Also, you had to turn on the shower 5-10's before you wanted to use it to get hot water.

The worst part is the noise of the restaurant below. All of there rooms are on the second floor with a big opening to the restaurant below. The restaurant closes at midnight and is open for an early breakfast. There is nothing to reduce the noise. It is very loud in the rooms. You hear the plates and silverware moving and the conversations. It is not a peaceful environment to rest.

The door to my room was very difficult to open or lock or unlock. The safe in the room was standing on its side.

Nice charming local hotel

The hotel is a local managed restaurant and hotel. Lobby is a restaurant, can hear the noise in the room until it gets quiet after business hours. But the noise is not a problem. Staffs are NOT much English speaking people, but try their best to help. Liked the king sized bed, comfy and big.

Lovely place in great location

We loved our stay at this hotel. Beautiful building with really large rooms. The rooms are well stocked and the Internet was fast. They have a good restaurant on the lower level and the hotel is within easy walking distance of the main cathedral. Would be great if they had better parking options, currently you can park in front of the hotel after 10:00pm until 8:00am.

Good Location For An Identity Crisis

Great property in a great location. Poorly managed. The restaurant service has consumed the entire hotel common area. Upon arrival we had to navigate a very narrow aisle sidestepping tables, waiters, and diners, while dragging our luggage behind us. There is no parking service within 6 blocks of the hotel. The hotel charges were billed to the restaurant which meant I was unable to use my hotel specific MasterCard spending cards. Positive note - the rooms are comfortable...except for inconsistent hot water and non-existent wireless internet.

I've stayed here twice before - never again though. It's just failing in so many ways. And it's a shame. The location is perfect!

A great little hotel in a great location for seeing the sights in the center of Guadalajara. The room was quaint and located in a beautiful little park near a church. Finding it was a little hard, and parking didn't seem too secure, but we had no problems. The cafe attached to the hotel had GREAT food and was very busy and bustling. I would definitely stay here again. Although my main complaint was that I had spent more money and booked the MASTER SUITE, but when we got there it was under maintenance and they didn't seem to care. They also didn't even have my reservation on file, which was weird. I got the feeling that they weren't really happy to serve gringos, but it's Mexico and we neighbors up North get a bad reputation.
