The room was clean comfortable warm and very spacious. We looked out onto the outdoor pool. One night we heard them bell ringing at the church nearby for some time. All the staff were extremely kind and polite and we enjoyed our breakfasts.

Room had bedside light and bathroom extractor that didn’t work. We complained and were moved to a better room for the second night of our stay. We had dinner on the first night the menu was limited, expensive and ostentatious. My wife couldn’t find a starter that she wanted to eat, never seen a menu that didn’t offer a soup or a plain starter. Main course was beef cheek for me the meat was tender with a pleasant glossy sauce, it was served with a tiny carrot half a shallot and a spoonful of mashed potato. Still hungry I ordered cheese cake which was tiny with a strange tasting sorbet. Breakfast was included and was excellent.

Nice room, but underwhelmed, won’t revisit.

We had a very friendly warm welcome - great start. Our suite was roomy and hence an initial wow factor. View onto pool area was really pleasant. Comfy bed & quiet. But per the notes below, we were on the whole ‘underwhelmed’. Hotel has ‘good bones’ but would benefit from a refresh.

1/ Slippers were missing - no big deal - but we’d put on swimwear and husband got dressed to go to reception to get some for use around pool.

2/ Bathroom was roomy, and although clean, the tiles had lots of stains (we think from bleach - made the bathroom ‘look’ dirty and unappealing). Modern smart fittings, but bath fascia was made from tatty old painted wood & looks out of place. No surface for toiletries. Shower seemed to have a glitch - difficult to control temperature (too hot). We overheard some others complaining.

3/ It seemed like the ‘B’ team were on at breakfast on bank hol Monday. I quietly gave polite feedback about poor service and poor food quality (beans cold and watery, egg obviously not fully cooked, toast was served as warm bread). Another lady caused a bit of a scene complaining.

4/ In underground car park, ‘drips’ from old overhead pipes, caused 6 x patches of limescale on our car. My husband couldn’t remove them with a cloth or by scraping with his credit card. I asked staff for some window cleaner. Lady was obliging and apologetic. She brought a lemon from the kitchen & came to assist us (had this issue before). This solved problem - phew!

Spa and pool lovely at hotel but rooms very dated We paid more than the room was worth. Mattress so hard and pillows too didn’t sleep well, also room had a toilet in one room without a sink and separate shower with sink. Cost 285.00 two days before stay was booked and on day of stay was only 168.00 , disappointed this time, have been before and was better 2 years ago but rooms still dated, I did mention to reception and the lady just said sorry about that.

A jewel of a find

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Feversham Arms. This is one of the most welcoming hotels. Staff are friendly and always great you with a smile and meet your needs on every request. The spa is wonderful, we used the facilities each day of our stay. The hotel is perfectly situated in Helmsley. It is opposite the Cleveland way, we walked to Rievaulx Abbey and back with was a lovely walk. Our Anniversary dinner was excellent, the flavours popped in your mouth and the whole culinary experience was unforgettable. A little jewel of a find, one we would certainly revisit.

Lovely place to stay

A lovely place to stay,a homely feel created by welcoming and friendly staff.
Located in the heart of a pretty village with a market on Fridays, independent shops and lots of cafes!
Two or three pubs to eat in-which were perfectly acceptable.Plenty of walking routes around and near enough to other tourist attractions/coast
Pool area is very relaxing and in a sun trap in the afternoon. Rooms are spacious,clean and comfortable. Only downside was noise from poolside filter/air con system whirring during the night. Breakfast cooked to order using good quality produce. Restaurant is higher end dining and there are no other alternatives.
Some evidence beginning to show of wear and tear in pool and dating of fittings in bedroom/bathroom which is just ok for now but fees are on the expensive side for that to be the case

The property is a little ran down and in need of some modernisation for example room interiors and pool need a few new tiles and grouting.

Overall very relaxing, however, I would think twice about returning due to the cost and standard of the place. Especially how we had to pay extra for a walk in shower due to my partner being pregnant.

A Perfect Anniversary Escape in Serendipity – Every Detail Considered

We stayed in Room 15, Serendipity, to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary, and the experience was flawless from start to finish. Thoughtful touches like welcome chocolates and a personalised congratulations message made us feel truly valued.

Dinner was superb — beautifully presented with outstanding flavours — and followed by a surprise delivery of celebratory truffles.

Serendipity offered direct poolside access via a private staircase, allowing us to step straight out into the sunshine for a relaxing afternoon with cocktails — the Hugo Spritz was a standout.

Every member of staff we encountered was warm, professional, and attentive, and the spa provided just the right atmosphere to unwind. The personal touches really made us feel celebrated, and it’s clear the team takes genuine pride in the guest experience.

This is a wonderful property and unusual for a hotel with a spa. It is located in the market town of Helmsley which offers a great selection of places to wander to.
The hotel has a range of rooms - this time we stayed in a spa suite and couldn’t fault it. A large entrance into a separate living area, a huge bedroom and bathroom with fabulous bath tub and separate shower. Breakfast was delicious with a range of options.
The spa is included in the price too, which is another reason to visit this hotel. The outdoor swimming pool was heated to a perfect temperature which enabled us to spend time outdoors on both a cloudy, chilly day and one with wonderful sunshine. There are 4 heated experiences - I loved the salt steam room.
The quirky lounge is another hit- instead of loungers there are a range of huge chairs and sofas with blankets - perfect for a chill and/ or an accidental doze!
Love this place and can’t wait to come back.

Lovely, friendly staff. Took the dog and there was a bowl, blanket and biscuit waiting for her. Pool is to die for - warm and inviting. Dined out so can't comment on the evening meal, but breakfast was tasty. They allowed us to eat in the snug with the dog and even gave her a sausage, which was appreciated. The only negative I can think of, is that the pillows were on the hard side. The room was spacious and clean.

Excellent hotel made even better by a free upgrade. It is located in the Town of Helmsley great parking as they have their own underground car park. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. We were given a free upgrade to a poolside suit which was fantastic. The hotel itself is very well maintained and feels very comfortable. We used the hotel bar which was well staffed comfortable and drinks were reasonably priced. We had breakfast in the hotel which was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. Will certainly go again.

A mixed bag

Staying at Fa was truly a mixed bag; moments of bliss and delight but times of frustration. There was plenty of parking and the location in Helmsley is beautiful.
The welcome at hotel and spa reception was par excellence. The quality of the evening meal (food and service) was wonderful. A true highlight of the stay. In the room, there was a great selection of teas, etc, the dressing gowns were well proportioned and the shampoo, etc lovely smelling. The spa had a lovely relaxation room and there was still and sparking water en tap. The spa itself was tepid - lukewarm steam room, no cold shower and a sauna that you had to be 6 foot to comfortably sit in otherwise it was a real jump on to the bench. I'm 5'6\" and the 1st level was at hip height for me. Our room (no 5) was over the bar and function room which was rowdy and we couldn't get to sleep for the noise which went on till midnight. The TV is potentially smart but these functions have been deactivated. The TV has obviously not been retuned for a while ( another finction deactivated) as Al Jezeera news was still tuned to 235 - this moved about 3 months ago. The breakfast was tasty but too few staff, meaning a wait if 15 mins to get your order taken. I would go back but ask for a room away from the bar and have kess expectations of the spa.

Staff very friendly however restaurant staff lacked knowledge about wine or details about the food on the a La carte menu. The a La carte menu was expensive & limited. The food was pretentious & quality didn’t justify the price. Wouldn’t have evening meal there again much nicer places to eat in Helmsley. Spa facilities were nice & free for hotel guests so an extra treat. Room was large & comfortable, bathroom was ok but starting to look like it needed a deep clean with mould building up a bit. Having said that it was a nice hotel & they were very accommodating about leaving the car in the car park before & after check in times.

The bedroom was also cold and I think the lack of quality control of the hotel environment is a real issue. This was the first hotel I've stayed in for many years and not had at least a king sized bed. Perhaps my own fault for not reading the description. We found the majority of staff rude and a little patronising. My husband's speach isn't fantastic following a stroke, it appeared staff spoke with derogatory tones.

The courtyard facilities, swimming pool and jacuzzi were ok if you liked to be surrounded by rats and the towel box was empty.

Dinner was very average and in my opinion overprice. Breakfast was limited. Replace muffins with brown toast on the egg royale. Wouldn't recommend or return.

The room was stuffy and I got bitten multiple times during the night.

It was nice to use the outside pool on a hot day. Breakfast was good. We did not eat in the hotel other than breakfast and we did not used the full spa facilities so can't comment on them. Room was very dimly lit. We weren’t aware that. There may be a number of steps between areas. Some steps had no bannisters to help people with limited mobility. Having been shown to our room up a short spiral flight of steps which I found difficult, again as there wasn’t really a rail to assist , no alternative was available on the day. I have been unable to find anything on the website which mentioned that room access might be difficult
Breakfast service could certainly be improved although we understand there might have been staffing issues.
We were able to hear conversations between our bedroom and next door which prevented us from going to sleep

Our first visit to the Feversham, on recommendation from friends who had stayed 5 wks ago and wanted to come back again. Really enjoyed our stay. Our spa suite was fabulous, overlooking the pool with a balcony. We had dinner on the first night and the food and service was excellent. The cooked breakfast was excellent too but the cold buffet was a bit limited. Would have liked more fresh fruit selection. Quite a wait after ordering a second tea & coffee but it was a busy morning and the young boys who were serving needed a gentle reminder. Overall, we loved our stay and would definitely recommend it and would come back again if in the area

This was on my bucket list and sadly the room let us down. We stayed in a classic double room (only type available at the time of booking) which was not worth £200 a night. Old terrible pine furniture and terrible grey paint in the bathroom. Carpet was old and needed replacing and the 'wardrobe' was a cupboard that didn't close.
However the service was fantastic and the staff were all friendly and excellent. I loved the outdoor pool and spa facilities (very busy at check in time). Dog friendly hotel but overall, not the 'wow' I was expecting.

Third and last visit.

This was our third stay - we won’t go again. Even for a ‘classic’ room, our room (4) was not acceptable. Cold room (single glazed, ineffectual old radiator), very thin ‘quilt’ on bed and no extra blankets. Early 1980s decor, mismatched and shabby furniture. No room for a stool or chair at ‘dressing table’ . Shower pressure very poor and hot water only available from smaller shower head!? Black hairs in both coffee mugs when we arrived. Questionable old carpet. Huge dips in bed mattress, toilet felt like it was trying to tip or slide you off. Poor quality toiletries which seemed only half full (despite already being tiny). We booked for two nights and checked out after one.

The Feversham is a great place to stay in Helmsley for many reasons including pool and spa facilities, food, location, parking included and mostly the amazing staff.

However the rooms are a little tired and considering the Feversham isn’t the cheapest place to stay I would expect a higher standard, we stayed in a mid range price room, with a separate living area with log burner, bedroom and bathroom but it was tired and some things were damaged and dirty (a rip in the bed base, dirty marks on the fabric headboard, build up around the bathroom basin tap, loose bath tap, dirty mark on paintwork in bathroom, dirty marks on the sofa arms in the living area, one of the bedroom robes had a hole in it).

The staff are really great, they are friendly yet professional, attentive and polite, nothing is too much trouble, everyone says hello when they see you, they work hard to provide a luxury quality stay.

Some excellent and some not

Starting with the positives: The staff are probably the most friendly and helpful I have ever encountered! All of them, whatever their roles. The room was a good size with lots of storage.

There were some maintenance issues. A slow leak from the base of a tap, another tap covered in some kind of residue. The shower was a good strength but the water did come out of the open area (no door).

The biggest disappointment was the food. The menu was not cheap but it was limited (being there for 3 nights made this painfully clear) and didn't live up to it's pretensions. If our friends we were staying there to meet had not been on a DBB package we would not have eaten there more than once. And sadly the breakfast was also not great.

Beautiful hotel, but a bit complacent

Beautiful hotel, with lots of amenities, however was disappointed, on arrival, was needing to get a taxi to Thirsk, was offered, no assistance in this regard.
Very expensive was charged £9 30 for a small glass of wine, and paid a service charge not only services during my stay but on my whole bill including the stay, which i had already paid in advance.
Breakfast was a bit disorganised

the room we was given was at the front of the hotel the radiator was on constantly due to the valve not working (broken) the first fan we had was broken but this was replaced. things like this should be checked before guests arrive. with the room being right on the corner of the main road it was noisy with the windows open. the breakfast was beautiful and the pool looked lovely. just the room was tired.

Fantastic hotel and location

Fantastic hotel and location. We stayed in a suite overlooking the pool. A real sun trap, it was like we were in the med! Swam and enjoyed the outdoor spa.
Luxurious, can’t fault it. Highly recommend

Ask for a room away from the Church!

The hotel is lovely, breakfast was delicious and really enjoyed the use of the spa.

The downside was our room was directly opposite the church and the bells rang every 15min throughout the whole night so we didnt sleep and the duty manager and receptionist did not seem bothered about this! Our one night away from our toddler to get some rest and sleep did not go as planned!

This was the worst nights sleep my husband and I have ever had in a hotel. We stayed in a classic room in the old part of the building - the rooms are quite dated and need better soundproofing - we could virtually hear the conversation of the people staying in the room above and the ceiling creaked with every step they took. They weren't being loud either! Annoying banging/rattling noise started about 2am which was about every minute so we didn't sleep after that from 5am. We couldn't phone Reception as per the info we had been given (there was no phone in the room) so waited until 6am to go and see someone on Reception to report it so we weren't disturbing those in rooms nearby. No explanation was given and when we checked out the lady on reception didn't even know there was an issue and seemed unaware we'd had a noise problem with the room.

This hotel wasn't cheap so we expected more and left (early!) feeling v disappointed and half asleep.

Positives - location is great, bar area clean and cosy, spa is great and the breakfast was fantastic. The spa and breakfast staff were also great as was the porter who came to the room. We felt let down that a hotel of this calibre has such poor quality rooms and maintenance issues and aside from the lovely breakfast and brief spa visit we essentially paid a lot of money for a sleepless night.

Very nice hotel peaceful and very relaxing feel throughout. Lovely village location with some really nice restaurants

The spa suite we stayed in was very spacious but did need a little TKG only minor things but needed rectifying for the price of the room and could have done with a fridge to keep milk/drinks cold

Lovely stay in a very comfortable hotel

Really lovely stay - room was fantastic, with plenty of space & nicely decorated. Spa was nice - with access to steam / sauna rooms & outdoor hot-tub & (heated) swimming pool. Throughout the hotel, staff were friendly & quietly attentive. Breakfast was very good -choice of buffet items with cooked menu to choose from. The hotel has a very nice ambience about it - understated & comfortable, and not pretentious.

We have just had a really lovely family weekend at the Feversham Arms. It was a birthday celebration for our daughter and also a pre-Christmas treat for all of us. Everything about the hotel and spa was pretty-near excellent - and, without exception, the staff were more than excellent: so friendly and so helpful all the time. Thank you everyone for making our stay perfect.
Oh - and Helmsley is such a beautiful and atmospheric place at this time of year - a Christmas movie set (but even better) come to life!

Room OK. Bathroom needed refurb, shower pretty poor. Beds really comfy. Spa was ok, but Salt room smelled of damp.

Hotel real oasis. It’s our second visit however a couple of areas that could be improved. In the run up to Christmas the lounge are seemed stark and not cosy, felt cold. The evening meal choice was limited and little or no choice for vegetarians so food menu and meals on the evening disappointing

Hotel location is excellent and Helmsley itself is lovely. Service was polite but not quite to the standards you might expect of a hotel of this reputation. Food was reasonably good, but the fixed-price menu was not good value and an a-la-carte option should have been offered. The wine list was slightly over-priced. Some common areas are in need of refurbishment and the older part of the hotel where we stayed was long overdue a refurb. We still had a pleasant stay but got the impression the hotel is trading on its reputation and there are better alternatives locally.

Very good BUT

We thought all of the hotel staff were superb-no complaints at all.
We thought the breakfasts and the room service meals were excellent
However, we thought the A La Carte dinner option was a huge disappointment. - £49 per head for 2 courses and £59 for 3. Although beautifully presented they were not good value. The meals were the smallest we have ever been served and we were still hungry when we left the restaurant!! Also, why only the a la carte option. Surely there could be alternatives of say less expensive single mainstream main courses, with the option of adding side dishes. Such a shame as overall we were very happy with our stay and loved the pool and jacuzzi.
