The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, the meals we had were lovely.
It was busy on the Saturday evening and just one bar man on meant he was rushing between the bar and restaurant, he could have done with extra staff to help him.

The toilet was difficult to flush and the extractor fan didn't work.

We still enjoyed our stay.

My main issue was extremely little vegetarian options . God help Vegans. Breakfast was ok but veggie sausage was anemic. I asked any tomatoes rather than baked beans . A firm No was the reply. No oh I'll get you some? Lunch and evening meals for vegetarian was either expensive or uninviting . I ate out.
Other than that the hotel and surround were nice enough.
Parking could be an issue, if an older person had to carry heavy bags from overflow car park . No disabled parking that I could see.

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at the Burn Hall Hotel from Thursday, 4 June to Sunday, 7 June. The staff were all very friendly and professional, and the service we received in the restaurant was superb. Really great waiters. The bar staff, Tom and Carina, were very good, friendly and welcoming. The room was great, clean and as expected, and the location of the hotel was ideal for our visits to York and a day trip to Whitby. The food was very good, and we enjoyed the breakfast, but especially the evening dinner. The food was great; very generous portions and of high quality. We travel extensively around the world, and our main home is in Florida. We have done many weekend breaks in the UK, and this was one of our favourites. We will definitely return to this hotel, maybe even this year. Thank you.

We enjoyed our stay and it is good value for money overall.
Good stuff : Lovely setting. Friendly reception and bar staff. All items on cooked breakfast were actually hot... from self service! highly unusual but much appreciated & real coffee.

Bad stuff : Grumpy unfriendly restaurant staff did not have a smile between them.. They were quite abrupt and unhelpful.
The two main courses we wanted had run out! The bottle of Rose wine was overpriced at £29 for 10.5Abv. I had to ask for a wine cooler... the reply was.. Sorry they have all been stolen!
I asked for an ice bucket to be told they are only for Champagne! What? Unbelievable. The wine was inpleasant.. Wine was poor for the price.

Overall... Room was clean and functional.
Setting is lovely.. Female staff were lovely too. Restaurant staff require training!
We would stay again and hope for an improvement!

Our room was tucked away at the end of a corridor even though the hotel wasn't full. The bathroom/toilet smelt of urine and we had to close the door in order for the smell to be contained. I informed the receptionist on leaving and no apology was made just an 'Okay'. The whole place is indeed of refurbishment. However, the staff were friendly and the breakfast choice adequate.

Hotel itself clean, spaces, lovely surroundings.
Breakfast was good, buffet with typical English breakfast, also healthy breakfast available, toaster and white/brown bread, no rolls. Maybe not for some, but Important for me, not variety of morning coffee (disappointing) just instant coffee + milk.
In the evening restaurant serves a great meals, drinks and variety of coffee! That means the proper coffee machine is in the kitchen but not using for breakfast.
The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Overall highly recommended I would stay there again.

Lovely hotel but our room wasn’t cleaned properly, could have done with a good freshen up , however we did see painters in so probably in process of freshening up rooms, bed was very comfortable but could have done with new pillows as they were a bit flat,

Plenty of parking available, check-in was easy. Reception area and bar and dining areas were all very nice. There's outside seating, which we put to good use with a couple of beers in the sunshine.
Our bedroom was an executive size as we like a bigger bed. Unfortunately the hotel is tired in this area and needs a refurb on the rooms. Little things like ridiculous bedside lights not being bright enough and 1 of our mattresses was a bit 'springy'. (2 beds joined together). The saving grace was the room size and the fact that it was very clean and there was plenty of tea/coffee. The toilet and shower area, although very clean and tidy, were in need of a definite upgrade. Some handyman just needs to go around and put some silicone or trim around the bath area and just look at areas that need work doing etc etc. The extractor fan wasn't working.
The staff were amazing, and were extremely helpful. Food was good, especially the venison stew! Breakfast was absolutely fine with usual choice of English breakfast items. I would have liked a few extras like croissants or crumpets but perhaps they may appear at some point in the future.
We had a good time over the 2 night stay and had dinner at the hotel both nights. There are a couple of eateries in Huby, just down the road, where you could go to for a change .

Right from checking in, our room,the staff, the grounds & the food & drink being excellent. The staff are really friendly especially in the bar & restaurant where they made a special effort as my partner is vegan, also the food & drinks were really reasonable which I didn’t expect with it being a hotel. Sitting outside on the terrace in the sun with a cold cider/beer was fabulous as was sitting in the lounge on an evening chatting to Tom the barman. He was really helpful in suggesting local places to visit on our weekend away.
We will definitely be back especially with the direct deals they have at the moment £169/179for 2 for 2 nights including breakfast & £15 towards your 1st night meal Apr-Sept. Bargin!!!!

Last minute booking. Place was lovely. Reception staff very welcoming. Our room, executive double was spacious and clean. The bathroom fan not working so when had a shower very misty. The breakfast was good, a bit limited on choice but to be expected at this price point. For what we paid we were more than satisfied, especially since it was a spur of the moment decision

It was dissapointing, more like a travelodge pretending to be a Country hotel. There was nothing executive about our executive double room. Breakfast was good but far from anything special i.e no baked goods, no cheese, plain yogurt only. Sadly not worth what we paid for it.

Staff friendly and efficient. No bathroom light as broken/bulb gone. Unable to change the radiator temperature in room so was too hot to sleep. Mug had been used and biscuits open and half eaten. It did look like the other clean mug and biscuits so assume the cleaner not checked. However there was a good amount of tea and coffee left if id have felt ok to use the mugs. Everything else is as expected for the standard of hotel

Double room with king size bed is very spacious, clean bedroom, plenty toilet rolls, full size kettle with tea/coffee and good quality cotton bath sheets.

Slept well.

Quiet location.

English breakfast is good and a good selection of cereals.

Wow! Their chef cooked perfect poached eggs.

Clean restaurant.

The only thing I don't like is their tiny soap for washing hands and no hair conditioner. I just used my own shower gel to wash hands.
Hairdryer is a bit slow but we will still stay there again. Overall is good value for money.

We just needed a bed for the night, breaking a journey to Durham and booked on price. We were very pleasantly surprised and would recommend the hotel for a quick stay. The decor was a bit austere but the service was excellent. There was a lack of blue badge parking spots (2 within easy reach of the door but they were already taken). I was informed that there were more in the overflow carpark but unfortunately they were even further away than the non-blue badge parking spots!!

Poor quality pillows, very hard to sleep on. Quilt needed to be bigger and also it was too think, no option of a blanket in wardrobe. No sleep was had. Noise from room above like they were gonna come through the ceiling. Toilet hard to flush. Breakfast was minimal at best! Different options of eggs should be provided and not needing to be asked for with a wait of up to fifteen minutes. No option for tomatoes, hash browns. No continental options, yogurt and fruit very minimal. No fresh fruit to choose from at all.

Nice accommodation, breakfast is a bit of a shambles. I shouldn't have to queue 15 minutes for a breakfast table when at least 8 were empty and just needed cleared. No real complaints about the rest of the stay, they just need a much better breakfast system and have a few more options in the hot buffet

We arrived late ish around 8pm and despite being thenonly ones checking in the manager decided he was more important to stop the lady checking us in and ask her to put something on someones tab! Let the customer check in first!

Breakfast we had to wait 30 mins to be seated with only 4 couples in front of us. Either the staff need more training on how to run breakfast or their is nit enough equipment to deal with 240 people staying. You know how many people are staying, put the rigbt number of staff on. All the staff were lovely except the same one from check in who told people off for waiting for food, raged at other diners that people arent patent enough. Ive been to lots of hotels and they all cope, figure it out and dont brerate people

Oh and the room had a spider hanging down pver the bed as we walked in.

Care home that hasn't been renovated!

Hotel was a disappointment more like a care home and old dated furniture and fixtures in the bedroom. The worst was the ensuite bathroom simply awful! Dirty and had not been dusted for months! The disabled facilities (we did not ask for any disabled aids) were old and one of the grab handles near the bath was coming off the wall. Health and Safety risk. Will not be returning!

It started with a very miserable lady who checked us in (not a smile or welcome in sight). The room was missing features that were advertised but no longer happen apparently, and the bathroom had an absolutely horrible musty smell coming from it. Rest of the evening was ok but didn’t really enjoy my bath due to the smell so couldn’t wait to get out. Then I got up in the night to a sharpe stabbing pain in my leg from a spring poking out the side of the mattress. Once I had pushed the spring back in I then went to open the bathroom door and the handle came off in my hand. It was only attached with one screw instead of two. Managed to put it back on but then couldn’t shut the bathroom door again in case it wouldn’t open and I got stuck in. Therefore the musty smell then filled the whole room. Eventually morning came and we went for what was a very disappointing breakfast. Not a lot of variety, flys over the food and cold. Then on check out again met with another miserable lady who barely even looked up from her desk. I handed her the door handle as it had again come off she just took it and asked what room. No apologies nothing. Will definitely not be staying here again and would not recommend at all.
