There was no one to meet us. They had not sent details for the codes needed even tho I had done the online check in. The several numbers on the emails and their door did not answer and therefore anxiety kicked in for both me and my partner. She then found a different number on their website. My partner talked to the woman, but then was put on hold for an exceed in amount of time making her wonder if the line had cut. It's not the way anyone wants to start a stay over. It ruined my birthday evening, as it left me upset!

Too small a room for any furniture at all so everything goes on the floor. The only hanging space is over the kettle !
Shower room is dirty rusty old and held together with silicon.
The staircase is steep and narrow and would challenge a mountain climber.
Lastly, you are threatened with being thrown out and fined if you have alcohol.

Nice guest house by York hospital about 20 minutes from the tourist attractions like York minister and York dungeons only down side I had was had to phone up to get into room when if they send a email with keypad code the night before or in the morning they wouldn't have a problem and a bit of mold in bathroom on the roof by shower outh then that very nice guesthouse

The hotel is well situated for exploring York but it is in quite bad condition. The front is shabby with long grass and it all just need a a good tidy.
The room was in pretty poor nick, the door kept getting stuck on the carpet strip. But the worse was when we came back to the room in the evening, the bathroom stank of sewage, it was awful trying to brush our teeth with the smell in there and it smelt all the next morning. I understand it’s a budget room but it was an awful smell to have to be around for so long.
Myself and my wife also had to help a lady who couldn’t speak much English try and check in, it was not that late on in the day but there is no staff present so she had to try and check in over the phone and wait for a call back. It was an awkward situation for her but luckily we were there to help her in.
Parking was easy though, and the bed was comfy but I doubt very much I would stay again

Diamond Lodge
Very clean and comfy even provided a fridge. The only fault was the kettle didn't work when i went to make a cup of tea in the morning. Otherwise excellent.

I spoke to the hotels.com online agent and was told I’d get a phone call about my complaint, I didn’t. I am going to get my money back because this place isn’t fit for purpose. Absolutely disgusting hygiene and service when we arrived was awful, we had to walk out and spend more money on a premier inn (which was excellent might I add) absolutely disgusted at the idea that a hotel like that would be even advertised on your website, and then even more disgusted that when told I’d get a phone call from you ive been left in the dark. I will be on the phone Monday morning, from one unhappy customer.

Clean comfoftable accommodation but i was given a room on top floor.3 flights of steep stairs.Had to use my phone to book in.No breakfast despite being mentioned on hotels.com.No suggestion made where to go for breakfast.Wetherspoon is nr the station so over a mile away.A mile walk from city.It was mentioned to be in clifton but was over a mile from clifton sports centre where i wanted to go to watch yorkshire cricket.Had to have the fan on all night as no air conditioning on a very hot day.Room next door vibrated at 3am!They have tried to economise when they could have offered a better service and charged more.Ok for one night only.

This accommodation didn’t appear to be very posh and the room looked a bit dull BUT the beds were very comfortable, there was perfect silence during the night and the internet WiFi worked( despite a glitch at first possibly due to my own input or lots of others using it. To be honest this is a lot better than in the usual well known chain hotels that cost at least twice the price. Yup ! We were very happy with everything and a big THANK YOU to those responsible for this place.

Slightly complicated check in process with nobody on site and having to call a mobile number. However, once I was in everything was very clear. My room was up 2 very steep sets of stairs. It was compact but clean, with a small ensuite. The shower pressure was very weak unfortunately, but otherwise the room was excellent value for money. I especially appreciated being able to leave my luggage, and when I came back, I had a very friendly welcome.
The hotel is an easy 15/20 minute walk to the centre of York, and although it's on a main road, I didn't hear any traffic. I'll stay again.

Text received to change my accommodation 3 hours after I was due to check in. Not where I originally booked. Ended up 15 minutes out of Town. Light curtains with a streetlight outside made the room like daylight all night. Adequate facilities. Luke warm shower . Otherwise ok.

So the place says it is 4 stars as rated by Enjoy England I have looked them up repeatedly and cannot see such an awarding body, so to me that seems like a lie.
Again that won't be the only (in my opinion) lie that they say to get people to stay but we'll get to that. It says that it is close to the city centre do you consider 20 minutes on foot close? Again it doesn't tell you it's next to a hospital or show you the front of the building in it's pictures that's because it's a house and a pokey one at that.
Next let's move on to the rules they don't tell you about before arrival, you are not allowed alcohol in the room you are not allowed takeaway in the room and you are strongly encouraged not to make any noise after 10pm what is more fun when you're on holiday than copius rules?
On top of that the rooms are incredibly small it feels like you're in someone's back bedroom, which wouldn't be a problem if that was clearly shown that was what it was but it wasn't clear. Also whilst in there you feel incredibly on view and like you have to be on your best behavior again as though you are staying with a parent not want you want on holiday. Relaxation isn't on the cards.
Finally, the staircase is a deathtrap (in my opinion) incredibly steep and not wheelchair friendly, also the front of the property is very icy and that is also hazardous.
Oh and the online check in procedure where you have to give you passport details is also irritating.

Yes it was ok for a nights sleep. Not the ritz but much cheaper than others. I struggled a little getting door lock codes but I would stay again as it worked ok for us.

Very pleasant stay. You needed a permit to park on a street near the property. The permit you from the premises when you check in cost of £6/7 but no spaces left. So a 5 min walk from the property there is a payed carpark @ a cost of £6 for 24hrs. Also on arrival there is some rules no drinking on the premises is found out alcohol has been consumed there is a £25 bill on top of the full nights stay.

We stayed overnight at Diamond's Lodge to give us more time to explore York. You are definitely paying for the location as it is about a 20 minute walk from the heart of York, but there is a bus stop right outside the property if you don't fancy the walk. It is also across the road from York hospital, I was concerned about being disturbed by ambulances during our stay but this only happened once.
The beds were a bit on the firm side, but we all swept well enough. The room was clean and neat.
I think Diamond's would benefit by putting a bit more information on their website- there was a kettle, fridge, tea & coffee and a hairdryer in the room (which I wasn't expecting). I also couldn't figure out the parking situation, so we parked in a private car park a short walk away that I had to find myself.

Reception pleasant, room clean not well equipped or organised or maintained.
On returning late the room and bathroom lights failed and therefore the shower extractor so unable to wash properly, owner said someone would be round 09:30 STILL WAITING at 10:10. We're leaving with a simple wash down and a bad review, what do they expect.

Breakfast basket was stated on booking and not received once. Room was not cleaned and serviced once. Bathroom was full of damp and the valence on the left hand side of bed was showing signs as though someone previously had been sick over the side of the bed. Booking said no children allowed yet children were present on the ground floor. As smokers ashtray said could be provided for the outside yet none available. Not recommended and would not visit again after seeing other establishments in the area.

£110 for a dirty tiny room without a working shower. Asked to change rooms and was told no even though the room next door to mine was empty. Disgusting mouldy bathroom. Spider webs everywhere so not been dusted in a while. No breakfast room like shown in the pictures. My friends got a hamper in the room with cereal and longlife milk. I got nothing. No staff overnight.

Having received an email from Diamonds Lodge advising that our booking included a continental breakfast basket in our room we were a little disappointed on arrival to be told we were room only. Not really a problem, but they should organise their admin a bit better. Also, there was mould in the shower that wan't great, but this was a last minute booking, the price, for York, was cheap, and the room was clean, so no real complaint.

Not the room we paid for!!!! Ignore the good ratings as this guesthouse has been taken over. There is NO breakfast. The photo of the dining room is an old one because that room has been changed into a bedroom. We didn't even get a breakfast hamper. We went to celebrate our wedding anniversary so paid for a Superior King room, what we actually got was a small double room which was downstairs next to the front door so lots of banging of the two front doors as other guests came and went. This room used to be where breakfast was served but new owners have made it a bedroom. There wasn't much tea, coffee or milk in the room. We stayed for 3 nights and housekeeping only attempted to come in once but we were in the shower so shouted to them not to come in. They had plenty of other opportunities to come in and top up toilet rolls, tea and coffee etc but they didn't. No clear reception area or opening times so couldn't just go and ask them for more things. There was no wardrobe or hanging rail to put our clothes, again because this room was designed to be a dining room. Not enough plug sockets and everything was run on long extension leads. Kettle was near impossible to fill in the shallow sink. Towels were provided and a soap dispenser by the sink and one in the shower but no other toiletries.Had to find extra money to buy breakfast out. We paid extra for a fancier room for our anniversary and got a basic room. Dont waste your money staying here!!Overall very disappointed feel robbed

IMO this property should not be on hotels.com it is a glorified rooming house with no owner support except for a phone. There is NO DINING room a basket is left in the room by a cleaner. One of the items is yogurt bought at Amazon clearly shows to be kept refrigerated, There is no fridge as that there not enough power outlets and probably not enough power to safely run a fridge as there are two multiple outlet extension cords in the room. Totally not safe to run lots of power through. The room was no more that 10 feet square with a creaky old double bed. I would not stay here again

The location was perfect, as everything was just a short walk away and a bus stop right outside. The room was lovely and spacious and very clean. The only small thing was I couldn’t get a signal on the TV, but we had a very pleasant stay.

The guest house had changed ownership within a week of our stay and some of the services had changed from when I booked, I wasn’t aware of this before arrival.
The building and garden are beautiful; the whole premises, the bedroom and bathroom were very clean and tidy and the staff member I spoke to was very nice and informative.
What has changed is that the guest house no longer provides a cooked or continental breakfast in a dining room and instead there is a breakfast basket in each room. There are advantages to this in that there is no rush to head downstairs in the morning for something to eat but it was a disappointment to us. The basket contained a jar of cornflakes, UHT milk, two yoghurts, two apples, two flapjacks and two long life croissants. There are spoons and plastic bowls for the cereal and a kettle, two cups and tea and coffee sachets in the room as well as orange juice.
There was more than enough to eat for the two of us but a breakfast of cornflakes and room temperature milk and yoghurts eaten sitting on the end of my bed is not really what I had in mind when I paid for bed and breakfast.

We absolutely loved this charming and delightful hidden treasure. A short walk to The York Minster Cathedral and the city center. The location to everything was perfect in all aspects. The bus stop is right outside the front gate perfect after a long day of sightseeing.

Hotel is in convenient position, bus outside or walk to town centre in 10 minutes. Had very quiet room at top of hotel, at the back. It is an old building, so a lot of stairs to the upstairs room, not that that bothered us. Room very small, but window opened. Bathroom tiny, had a problem with the shower every day we stayed there, the owner tried to fix it but was impossible to have a shower without being burnt. Breakfast was provided, we had continental, which was excellent. Owner was very nice and helpful. The hotel has just been sold so perhaps new owner will modernise it.

has a rather early cut off for check in. Emailed us to say that if we were no there by 8pm they would put us down as a no show and keep the money. We emailed back to say we were on our way, but got no reply. We arrived at 8:10pm and nobody was there. Phoned them and they refused to turn back to let us in to our room that we reserved and paid for. Checked email and had received a response at 8:08 saying that was it.
It seems like a clever way to make money. have the earliest check in cut off imaginable and dig your heels in.

Really enjoyed our overnight stay. Very friendly service ensuring all of our needs were met. The bed was very comfortable and the rooms were clean. The staff really made the stay and certainly added an extra star to the rating. The rooms were comfortable, if a little basic (the shower was not overly efficient-took a while to heat up and the head would not stay in position properly)and small but this did create a 'cosy' atmosphere.The breakfast was very nice and good value for money, and served by very pleasant and helpful staff.
Parking can be a bit of a problem, not helped by the council and nosy neighbours. My one suggestion would be the addition of code boxes for keys, in order that you can arrive without worrying about the place being manned. Continual questions about what specific time you will arrive can create a stressful situation before you arrive.
Overall though, this very pleasant place is a great place to stay in York and represents good value for money.

Spent 2 nights at Crossways, the room was very comfortable, the staff were very friendly & helpful with information on what to see in York and the best way to get there. Breakfasts were also superb, I would definitely recommend Crossways to anyone.
