Some TLC required to the mould in the shower and the overhead bed light didn’t work, this left just the room light as the only means of lighting and reading by that was a bit limited as the wattage of the bulb wasn’t great.

Perfect location near mass transit center for coming in and out of the city of York, not too close, but walkable for sure. Then getting into the city itself for sightseeing was also walkable, so convenience was a big plus. The complete breakfast was simple to order from a small menu of choices. The kitchen/ inn attendent was sure to meet our needs and answer questions. all with a caring smile. The bedroom was adequate and comfortable for two people. I'd choose this house again.

Very nice people here! It is an old guesthouse so the fact I was on the 3rd was ok, the stairs were solid but narrow so if I had more luggage than a small backpack it would have been hard. No issues with the other floors though. So to restate floor 3, room 10 quaint room for person with very little luggage.

Very friendly staff who were attentive and chatty. Always saying that if you needed anything else just ask. Breakfast was lovely. Ideally situated close to the river which made for a very pleasant walk alongside the river into the City just 5 minutes away. Room was clean and tidy. A lovely 3 night stay. My only criticism is that the wi-fi was very hit and miss, frustratingly dropping out very often.

Nice visit to St Mary B&B. Good clear communication about arrival time and instructions on parking and entry. Nice big rooms and did not heard any noise from the other rooms or train line which is nearby. It is in nice walking distance to York centre. Nice option for breakfast which had an option of difference set menu, but you could still add additional without issue

Relaxing stay in York
It was a short walk from the train station and we were able to walk along the river and to the downtown. Breakfast was excellent and it was very quiet.

Only a couple of issues. First, the lighting is too gloomy. A few more lumens would have made the room appear brighter. Second, my room was at the front of the house, and I was awakened at 3am by noisy works going on at the railway opposite. To be fair, the weather was really warm and I had left the windows opened. When i shut them, the double glazing helped suppress the noise.

Everything is brilliant about St. Mary's Guest House in York! Location is perfect - just 10 min stroll along the river front into the centre. Beds very comfy. Breakfast pentiful, cooked to order and delicious. Manager, Caroline, is wonderful. Parking inexpensive and easy. We would highly recommend this for a city break.

We had a lovely stay. The breakfast was first class, as were the staff. I have two comments about our room (8) - the pillows were a bit lumpy and if we had occasion to stay again, I’d request not to stay in this room because of the two steep steps down into the bathroom. Younger folk may have no problem with them but being that much older and having creaky knees, it wasn’t easy to negotiate them. Thankfully there was a very sturdy rail to hold onto. But I’d still request a different room. All that being said - we still enjoyed our stay.

Pleasant guest house,very close walking distance to York Railway Station. Rooms are generally nice and clean, although lighting could be improved. Staff are pleasant and the breakfast was nice.

Rooms were very clean and adequate. Rooms warm during a cold January stay. Cooked breakfast was great. Hostess Caroline was a delight. Flat 10 minute walk to city gate (see photo). So no need to park closer unless you have a walking disability. Very desirable location. The only thing that would have made it better was to let customers know in advance that parking is £12.50 @ night. No nearby free parking in sight. Don’t hesitate to stay here.

We have been york so many times over the years that it's very familiar with us. The staff at this hotel gave us some other insight into things we didn't know which was very nice. The guesthouse is comfortable and in a great location. Easy walking distance from the city, parking is right outside the hotel although it's on the street.
Breakfast supplied is lovely and the staff are friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and quite spacious with everything you need for a short break.

3 nights B&B in york.
The Guesthouse is located in a quiet street which is just across the street from the railway line to Scarborough. There are only a couple of trains an hour, so you don't really notice them and they didn't disturb our sleep.
Breakfast is excellent and the staff are friendly and helpful. The menu has a good range of food on it and the portions are generous.
Security is also good as the guesthouse has electronic locks on both the outer and inner doors which are sprung.
It is located 5-7 minutes walk from York railway station. directly across a foot/cycle bridge which can be accessed directly from the station car park.
The downside is the room as the bathroom was small with a very cramped sitting position on the WC. I am 6ft, not overweight but had to sit sideways. there were plenty of draws to put clothes like T-shirts and underwear in but there was an open clothes hanger with shelves, rather than a decent wardrobe. These open shelves are rubbish as clothes, or other items can fall of them very easily. The bed was in the style of an old fashioned bedstead. which, although quaint and comfortable to sleep on, was a bit short for anyone who is 6ft or taller. The room was warm but the timer seemed strange. as it went off at the time you might want it on, i.e. when you came in from dinner.

Enjoyed our stay in St Mary`s Guest House. We were in Room 10 in the attic ,the final staircase was steep and narrow , I had a stroke 3 yrs ago and my mobility is not too great. I should have asked for a ground or first floor room in hindsight that was my error not yours. Best wishes Adam and Frances Johnston.

The girls are polite helpful, room was big enough for two furniture abit dated but fine, plenty of tea coffee etc, bed was comfy. There is a iron etc on the middle floor which was very helpful. Good communication of the problem down to staff and resolution. Close to the river. Short walk to Minster and downtown. No elevator is you need one. Very enjoyable place. Nice breakfast.

We only stayed for 2 days over the Bank Holiday but it was a perfect break away. The ladies who served breakfast,which was amazin, full English was the husbands choice and he is quite picky but loved it, I opted for yogurt and fruit and eggs with toast,all perfectly done. Rooms are very clean and comfortable and cleaned daily without asking and the staff are so welcoming and no issue is a bother for them.will definitely be returning and a very reasonable price for York on a Bank Holiday weekend. We were so pleased with our stay we gave the ladies chocolates as a thank you when we left 💕 xxx

The staff were wonderful. The breakfast choices were excellent and the cooked breakfast was very nice indeed. A few yards walk to the river Ouse at Scarborough Bridge and very close to the station. Only 10mins steady, scenic, walk alongside the river to the Centre of York, no need to use the car. Close enough to all attractions, yet away from noise, hustle and bustle. Some of the decor a little old, dated and would benefit from redecorating. However it was clean with comfy beds. The weather was very warm yet the heating in the main areas was on which as a little stuffy and had to open all windows wide in room, however I would not hesitate on booking in here again and would recommend to friends.
