We had a wonderful stay at The Grand, York. The rooms are big, beautifully maintained, and incredibly comfortable. The bed was excellent, and the shower was powerful and relaxing — exactly what you want after a long day.
The food was very good, with great quality and variety, and the service throughout the hotel was outstanding. Every member of staff was happy, helpful, and genuinely welcoming, which made the stay feel extra special.
The spa was absolutely amazing — a real highlight and perfect for unwinding. Overall, a fantastic hotel that combines comfort, great service, and luxury in a brilliant location. Highly recommended.

From the moment we arrived we were made very welcome. I have stayed in many hotels but the Grand was the best overall by far. The staff are 1st class. Nothing too much trouble and the hotel and bedrooms were spotless. There is nothing that I would change.

I stayed overnight at The Grand York recently and had a lovely experience. I had a late check-in and Nigel (the porter) arranged a table at a lovely restaurant nearby for me. The room was extremely nice (there was one minor issue which I raised with staff the next day, but wasn’t anything major that it detracted from my stay).

I found the hotel easy to get to and all the staff I came across were friendly, polite and professional. I also loved the granola at breakfast - it was extremely delicious (as were the full english breakfast, fruits and yoghurts I had)

I only had an overnight stay due to business, but plan on visiting York for leisure longer (this was my first time) and The Grand York will absolutely be my first choice of accommodation !

But this time we were disappointed to find the free pool now costs £45 each to use!!
In addition the hotel also used to discount the nearest car park but not any more, and so that cost us £31 for 25 hours.
Last thing, there was no milk with the greet selection of teas and coffees in the room, so we skipped that and went to Starbucks next door after checking out.

I was expecting a stay in a historic building, but as it turns out the hotel has a bolt on new wing and this was a surprise as our rooms were in the new building. Room was nice, but booking felt like a bait and switch. Buyer beware- probably best to book by phone so you know what you’re getting in advance.

A truly wonderful stay over the festive period. The new spa is lovely and room 452 was SO quiet and spacious, highly recommended.
The only downside which I pointed out two years ago is that the shower lets the room down as it’s not powerful enough and looks dated too. A short taxi ride or lovely walk into the centre with everything you could wish for. Please note valet parking is £39.50 and the Soa £45 per person in addition to the room. Concierge and FOH staff are very attentive. Breakfast is wonderful, so many choices including à la carte at no extra cost.

We stayed in the traditional classic room, part of the original building. Hotel is beautiful - staff are extremely well trained and helpful. Food in the Rise restaurant is first class.

Room was well appointed and spotless, yet furniture a little creaky and well used - but understandable. Certai ly would.welcome a little facelift like the executive rooms on the newer uplifted part the building. Minor niggle- the slider divider doors for bathroom and toilet felt cumbersome and not really in keeping with the overall lovely room experience. Make no mistake, for York, this is the best hotel by far. Deserves a 5 star rating for what was a 5 star experience. Spa and pool facility is a winner. Unbeatable location is another ! A stones throw from the Shambles, museum, Clifford Tower, etc etc and 3 minutes from the train station. Definitely recommend the Grand Hotel - but is it worth the hefty price tag for a few nights? Yes. It was a great place.

All the staff we talked to or came into contact with were exceptional, well done it felt great.

There was a lady who managed the bar (I missed her name but she's a 6'2\" runner from Oldham) and she was absolutely awesome.

Hotel restaurant and bar were fantastic, one of the best meals I've ever had the wellington Surf and Turf. The bar was relaxing and had a wonderful female jazz singer on the night we were in there, also seemingly meticulously picked for the room and atmosphere.

Perfect location for the York Xmas markets which were also fantastic on a fairly rainy day.

A great experience! I booked this for my fiancée’s birthday as a surprise and we weren’t disappointed.
Beautiful building with the special feeling. Car park was a few minutes walk away if you don’t want valet parking, you do get a discount from the hotel for your stay though. Rooms were good however we had a rattle old window which I had to stuff a piece of card on to silence. Plus it was very cold in the night due to the heating only blowing cold. Breakfast was to die for, plenty of selection and service was really good. All in all a great location and stunning hotel for a stay in York.

The grand is a beautiful hotel. The valet parking and reception team were brilliant.

The rise restaurant had a great selection of food. I had the steak which was cooked perfectly.
The legacy suite was very large. My only problem is the air conditioning in the room was almost non existant. We switched to maximum but still bareful anything comes out. The room was quite hot at night.

Definitely recommend and looking forward to staying again.

Beautiful Hotel, Great Location & Wonderful Staff

We stayed at The Grand last weekend for 2 nights and absolutely loved it. The location is fantastic, right next to the York wall and only a 5-minute walk into the town centre.

The hotel staff were so welcoming, and the doormen in particular were incredibly friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. We parked in the NCP car park just around the corner, which was really convenient.

Although the pool was closed for renovation (something we were aware of when booking), our stay was still perfect. The rooms have been beautifully renovated, everything felt super clean and fresh, and the overall atmosphere was lovely. If you fancy any treatments / massages I do recommend pre booking before you arrive as all slots were fully booked when we tried to book on arrival. Popular option!

On Friday evening, we had dinner at their restaurant The Rise. We ordered the sharing platter of beef Wellington and lobster, paired with a delicious bottle of red wine, absolutely amazing! There was also live music in the lounge/bar on both Friday and Saturday night, which added to the experience.

The only downside was breakfast – at £30 per head it felt quite steep, so instead we ate out in town each morning at a lovely little café called Rise.Brunch, which we really enjoyed.

I’ll definitely be staying here again on our next trip to York and can’t wait to check out the new spa and pool facilities once they’re open. :)
