Easy to see why this property gets such amazing reviews! Lots of parking right outside (ensure to request a virtual parking permit in advance) - fabulously clean, room with an incredibly comfy bed (really important to both of us due to back issues). Shared bathroom no issues, spotless and no waits even tho the property was fully booked.

Family-run guest house with a warm welcome. Easy check-in, clean and quiet room with a comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast. Walkable from the rail station and the centre of town - both about 15-20 minutes away along roads where I felt safe. I would happily stay there again.

I loved my time here. It's a very comfortable guest house, my room was small, but absolutely suited to my needs, larger rooms are available for more than 1 traveller, reasonablypriced, too. The staff is also small, but so helpful, friendy and polite. Its located in a lovely quiet area, with a reasonable walk to the city but manageable if you have no mobility issues, but taxis or buses are easy to come by.

Great breakfast and people. You need to ask for a parking space when you book.(not mentioned elsewhere) Also ask for heat to be turned on in your room. Or it's quite cold. Lastly an electrical shower no real pressure, it's a fiddle if you've never seen one before.Good food nearby as well

Nice place, check in was easy with the lockbox and easily accessible. On street parking was fine, quite a few spaces and on a fairly quiet street.
Room was good, slightly old fashioned/not the most modern, but the bed was comfortable and the room was a good size. The choice of teas/coffees and biscuits in the room was a nice touch. The shower was a bit weak.

Lovely rooms with well made beds- provided plenty of warmth which is good since middle of February is quite cold. Brilliant location, within sensible walking distance of city centre and the station with reasonably safe walking routes to both, but without the downside of all the noise since it’s in a more residential area allowing for a better nights sleep versus the big brand hotels on the main streets. However, the real standouts are the wonderful owners who were very helpful and understanding throughout my stay and the quality breakfasts (the pancakes and the sausage sandwich were great). When I booked, I was moderately worried about shared bathrooms for my room but these turned out to be very clean at all points in the day so was not an issue, plus having a choice of 2 is very handy in case one is in use- never had to wait for one to become available. All in all very glad I booked a stay here, will now be the first place I check availability for on future visits to York. Thank you for the great stay.

Fabulous guest house close to city centre
We had a double room with en-suite shower and toilet. It was very clean, well-equipped, comfortable and quiet. The breakfast was excellent with lots of options and a lovely \"full English\" as well. Parking needed to be requested prior to arrival and Helen then arranged for an online permit that allowed us park in the street outside. That went very smoothly. It took only about 20mins to walk to the city centre with numerous different routes to choose to do so which allowed us to explore even more. The city of York itself is fabulous and we enjoyed seeing in the New Year there. I would highly recommend The Farthings and we will go there again when we next visit York.

Excellent little place, family run, short walk.
Very friendly, use the key lock to grab you keys when you arrive. Any issues just ring the mobile on the info by the door. Very easy to find, can cross the little park for a cheeky shortcut. Close to the station, over the river, first right left at Sainsbury's across the park and it's on the corner.

Charming hotel within walking distance of York
Lovely hotel, with welcoming host, who even parallel parked my car for me outside the hotel when I was struggling to park in the bay (free for guests) outside the hotel! You need to give your registration in advance to the hotel to be allocated a free spot… The hotel is very charming, with a lot of attention to detail and quirky ornaments which I particularly liked, being a cat lover! A hearty full English breakfast and other options are available - there are 2 sittings and you can specify your preference for 8.15 or 9.15 am breakfast the night before on a sheet in the lobby. I stayed in a single room 9 in the attic, which had a TV, tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryer, complimentary make up remover pads, sewing kit and shower cap. It was adjacent to the shared bathroom.

The Hotel itself is a very old building. My room was on the second floor with very sharp staircase and at 77yrs of age was hard work getting case up and down. The other minus for me was the fact that there was no lounge to sit and relax in. The landlady was very welcoming and chatty, everywhere was very clean and tidy and the breakfast excellent. The shared bathroom was not for me even though I knew about it before hand. One bathroom between four bedrooms I found stressful. Overall I enjoyed me stay there, but doubt if I will visit again due to shared bathroom idea.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Farthings Guest House. Very nice people, great breakfast and the location in York is ideal - close to the attractions. All within easy walking distance. Our room was lovely and full of character with even a washbasin in the bedroom. However the shower and toilet were very small. A slightly larger person would struggle in the shower. Overall our stay was great.

Self entry to Farthings was provided by the guest house and very simple to let myself in. The service was very warm and friendly, the breakfast was delicious and well presented. Would return just for that. Unfortunately room 9 where I stayed, had a very musty smell like old socks. What a lovely place. Very clean and everything in good order. Good location. About 15 minute walk from station and about same into central York. Bishey Street is a nice buzzy High Street and a Sainsbury's local on the corner.
The breakfast was excellent. Fried eggs are a hard thing to do and they were always perfect. Mushrooms were so tasty.
Helen, the proprietor, always has a smile on her face and is a delight to talk to.

First time in york and best hotel I've ever been to in my times of travelling. The staff at the Farthings are absolutely lovely who did a fantastic job on making sure your doing well.

Owner and staff were friendly. Breakfast was amazing, best bacon and sausage in a full English I have tasted for a long time. A nice 15 minute walk into town and the same to the train station, so perfectly located. We stayed 4 nights in June when the weather was hot ~ 27° during the day. Our room was on the 2nd floor and was very hot when we retired at night, we were given a fan which didn't help much. Also we had to share a single bathroom which was problematic having to wait for the shower in the morning.

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at The Farthings! It's a little outside the main part of York, but still a short walk (~15 to 20 mins) to the Minster, the Shambles, and other areas. Still highly convenient. Breakfasts were great, and Helen was quick to give advice and tips on what to do if anyone asked!

Just as good as a more expensive hotel
We were expecting good things from reading past reviews, and mostly it lived up to our expectations. My only disappointment was that it was not as quiet as expected, with cars on a nearby road evident throughout the evening and into the night. Also, although Covid precautions were brilliant, it made contacting The Farthings difficult and I tried several times prior to our arrival, without success, to confirm check-in times and establish whether a left-luggage facility was available

Read the reviews beforehand and was not disappointed. I had the double room next to the dining room Breakfasts are done in two sittings due to Covid restrictions, mine was at 8am which suited me fine. Breakfast was ordered by night before, plenty available and well cooked. Room was comfortable and slept well all 3 nights there. There are a couple of ways to get into the town centre 10-15 minutes and same to the railway station. Rowntree Park is also a short walk away. There are shops and places to eat close by. Definitely would stay again when in York again.
