This is lovely restored Art Deco era hotel. Staff are helpful (special call out to the bar staff). Rooms clean and reasonably comfortable.

The Elmbank although slightly on the outskirts was in a great location to explore York and in easy walking distance. The hotel itself was quite remarkable and the rooms were of a good size. We had breakfast included in our package which was lovely and the service was really good.

Nice hotel but I really think for the price that drinking water should be provided free in rooms. Also my bathroom floor didn’t look to have been cleaned well between guests.
That said, I managed to park right outside and it wasn’t far to walk into the city, maybe 20 minutes.

Beautiful hotel, very good customer service.
Only downside was the breakfast. We were charged £17 per person for a pretty lacklustre offering. My husband requested pancakes which were on the menu for an additional £2.50, so we were expecting a spectacular stack as a result; what he got was a couple of shop bought small pancakes to go with a very dry sausage and one rasher of bacon. Given that everything else was top-notch in the hotel, we feel they should perhaps review their breakfast and invest in some local specialities for the price charged - and definitely not charge extra for a couple of floppy pancakes.

Staff did what they could to make the stay better, but we had to move rooms (to a smaller one) to get away from the first. Very noisy aircon, single glazed windows, barely any hot water from the shower, flickering lights, etc., though staff were pleasant and helpful.

Hotel was a great location, clean and warm and all the staff bar our initial welcome by a receptionist was first class ( we did not see that receptionist again - cold, abrupt and not bothered) but everyone else was amazing. The peacock bar was lovely and a nice twist on major cocktails with a Yorkshire twist and the breakfast was so nice, great staff and freshly cooked food nothing too much trouble. Would highly recommend.

Room ok staff ok but slow to serve at bar area and restaurant as always seem to go missing staff with long her should have it tied back or up for h/s reasons were food being served chef needs to learn how to cook a steak properly as mine was charcoaled and breakfast poached eggs done in to much vinegar meal menu needs updating and staff need to learn how to set cutlery for meal as handling steak knife by blade and giving it to customer not very professional or hygienic other than that had a pleasant stay

Lovely hotel, great reception and room service staff. Friendly and very helpful. We had a king size courtyard room which was clean and had a fridge and kettle. Bed was comfortable and shower worked well. Didn't have breakfast so can't comment on that. Parking available at hotel but limited or car park at the Mount School which always had spaces. The walk into York took about 25 minutes. Only small criticism was the bar ran out of drinks including sauvignon white wine. Other than that would definitely come and stay again.

Elmbank was a lovely hotel but there were a couple of things which made us feel we did not get good value for money.
The information we received prior to arrival was out of date. As an example it advised us to ring on the day of arrival to book parking which we were advised was not possible. Parking is purely first come first served.
The toilet was not clean around the seat fixings. There was a plaster from previous guests in the bin!
There was no hot water for one of us the have a decent shower one morning!

A lovely period hotel that was spotlessly clean and had very comfortable beds. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Just a short 20 minute walk in to the city centre.

Breakfast was good, and Victor was excellent, a good choice of food and efficient service. Our room was in the Lodge, the room was very nice, large, and comfortable. However, the bathroom was cold, take a pair of slippers, if going in Nov/Dec otherwise you will get cold feet, Shower was very good. Unfortunately, we never got house keeping at all, After spending 5 hours walking round York, you just want to get back to your room and chill. But i had to go to reception everyday for Coffee and milk, because housekeeper had not been to our room. I had to ask for a fresh towel and a toilet roll. There was no conditioner in the dispenser, My room and toilet was not cleaned or freshened at all during our stay. It would have been easier, cheaper and better organised to have gone self catering. It may only seem a small matter, but to me, it is a very important part of stay in an hotel. Although location was appropriate for my needs. i was so disappointed with the treatment, it really spoilt my stay.

Everything from the staff to the decor was wonderful. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but as soon as you walk in you know you're going to have a great stay. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The bar staff were equally friendly. I had a ton in the courtyard and it was very clean and comfortable. I will definitely be staying here again.

Good location for walking into York and a beautiful old building. Staff are helpful and friendly however pool is a 15 minute walk away at another site so more of a case they know someone with a pool rather than having one. Hotel is split over 2 buildings, the hotel and the lodge, we where in the lodge across the road which is 3 floors with no lift so not really suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Room was nicely decorated and spacious but not as clean as it could be and probably a personal thing but had feather pillows which we struggled to get comfortable on and the noise from the room above sounded like a herd of cattle in steel toe cap boots running round. Breakfast was a mixed bag, full English was very poor but eggs Benedict was very good and because it is served in the main hotel block you have to leave the lodge and cross the road in all weathers to use. So overall the hotel building is beautiful and good service but don’t bother taking your swimming costume and I would recommend call ahead to ask for a room in the main building, ask for non feather pillows and stick to anything other than the full English for breakfast.

Very sweet and helpful woman at the front desk at check in. They noted our party would like to be adjacent and saved us connected rooms. Check in was quick and easy except their form requires 4 signatures per room which was a lot of signing after. A long trip. Our courtyard room was spotless, quiet and comfortable. It's small but very well appointed.

The hotel was excellent. Beautiful building with historic features throughout. We loved the 'lodge-style' room in the courtyard, brilliantly quiet and well decorated. Clean and modern with great facilities including: iron and ironing board, tea/coffee tray and in-room safe. The TV was a large wide-screen. Would have wanted a second bedside table as one was missing but that's being picky! Would definitely stay again as the location a short walk from the station and Mickelgate was ideal!

The room was really nice, spacious and clean and we enjoyed breakfast. It was however very noisy and we were kept awake by the people upstairs for a while before bed and were also woken at 5:30am by people opening and closing the doors and being generally noisy and by a van reversing with his sensors beeping right outside our window.
We were very disappointed that the pool is not on site and a 15 minute walk away as this is not made clear when booking and is the main reason we chose this hotel. We also were not aware that there are 2 buildings- we were put in the one over the road and not in the actual hotel which may explain why it was so noisy and we felt a bit like the poor relations!
Overall an ok stay but wouldn’t stay again unfortunately

This is the best hotel I've stayed in in York and I've stayed in quite a few. Great front desk service, gorgeous decor, lovely room - great decor, comfy bed, lush pillows, nice lighting, powerful shower, blackout curtains, functioning air con / fan / heating system. The school parking is less than 100m walk from the front desk so is no bother to use. Easy access to city centre by uber, walk or bus. Will stay again.

Everything was really nice and we enjoyed our stay.
Rooms were nicely decorated and had a very cosy feel. Perfect pick for visiting the racecourse too.

Only downer was the food lorry delivery at 5:55am outside our window that was ridiculously noisy. Went on til 6:35am and there was no chance of going back to sleep. Didn’t bank on waking earlier than I have to normally whilst enjoying a treat away from home.

Eating in the restaurant was good but several options were unavailable on the menu and the only white wine they had in stock was Chardonnay.

I think both problems were just bad luck for us. Would still recommend.

The property is immaculate throughout. Very tastefully renovated. The history of the property was very interesting. All of the staff were fabulous, especially Ria, Freya and the bar/breakfast staff.
The Hotel wasn't too far out. A 15/20 minute walk to the City Walls.
I would definitely recommend a stay, we will be back.

LOVELY HOTEL, BUT NO POOL AS AD.

A special night away with my young great niece. York was her choice, and I chose the hotel which is lovely. The staff are adorable and the breakfast was really nice. The only disappointment, and I only saw previous feedback later...I booked this hotel specifically as it is advertised on Hotels.com as having a pool. It does NOT have a pool. This obviously isnt something that's just been commented on, and yet the advert remains unchanged. Not acceptable for a Hilton hotel.
We didnt allow it to spoil our stay.
The property is impressive inside and perfectly adequate for us.

Poor night's sleep in decent hotel in OK location

Location-wise, the hotel is quite far from the city, and also worth noting the pool you can use is not at the hotel but at one 15 min walk away (in direction of the city).

Public areas are very nicely furnished, room was clean, bed comfortable, plenty of lights and plug sockets. Breakfast was good, waitress very friendly.

Biggest negative was the night porter banging on a neighbouring door at 1am which woke me up. While it's good they acted on a complaint, surely they could've done it in a way that didn't disturb other guests.

Amazing hotel, the staff are so lovely and conscientious, the breakfast staff were so accommodating of my gluten intolerance and so kind and patient with my daughter, the room was lovely and courtyard was so nice. Would definitely visit again, the only down side was the first night the entrance to the room had a strange smell but it was gone by the next afternoon.

We really loved the power shower and the bed was very comfortable but the room we had was next to a door that was meant to be fire exit only but was used all night which made it hard to sleep as it banged very loudly. We also weren’t overly impressed with the room service offering, we ordered the same thing (just sandwiches) on different nights and the second time we’re told we couldn’t have something removed and then when it came it was completely a different standard to the first one (different bread/layout/size) we also had to wait for room service to restart although it’s meant to be 24/7 and the member of staff was quite abrupt
