We stayed one night for a weekend away in york. Was very impressed with how friendly and attentive the staff were and the breakfast the next day was very nice!. Although the room being a little dated, it was very spacious and warm, with everything you needed, plus more than enough beverages at hand. I also found the bed to be quite comfy if not a little bouncy. Parking on site was £10 for the duration of our stay,, although space is limited and got full towards the end of the day. We walked into town which took about 20 mins and is a pretty straight path to follow. The only negative aboit our stay was hearing another couple arguing in another room, but no fault of the hotel. Will deffo be using again when next visiting as was much better priced than most hotels near to town

The breakfast...First class. The cooks and waitresses were fantastic and the food. Epic. Would rate people to stay here always.
The only tiny gripe was the cost of the car park and the toilet seat was broken.

The room was awful!! The girl on reception was lovely and made some repairs while we were out on Saturday but I did not expect toilet seat that didnt fit and a WC that moved when you sat on it and black mould in the bathroom! The curtains didnt have enough rings, bedside lights didnt work and the electrics were mainly on an extension lead that I very much doubt had been Pat tested! Should have all been fixed before the room was let!

I got the luxury ensuite. The bed, whilst big, was very uncomfortable and was very firm. Additionally me and my partner are quite heavy, and the slats on the bed felt like they were at risk of giving way. Also the plug sockets lacked usb charging ports which created a pickle for us as we needed that yo charge our phones for a long drive the next day. We both felt like a travelodge or premier inn wouldve probably been a better idea. The staff were friendly and the bath was very nice though.

Generally just felt unloved and done very much on the cheap. Only reason not one star was because bed was comfortable and shower warm and powerful.
Wanted to book somewhere independent but hotel was not comfortable and wish id booked a premier inn!

I accidentally left my phone charger behind in my room, after calling the hotel daily for assistance I kept getting fobbed off that they will investigate.
I was told nobody else has been in the room since so it must have been stolen by who ever serviced the room.

I accidentally left my phone charger behind in my room, after calling the hotel daily for assistance I kept getting fobbed off that they will investigate.
I was told nobody else has been in the room since so it must have been stolen by who ever serviced the room.

Jamie was most helpful, close to York racecourse and plenty of shops close by. Nice pub, The Volunteer 2 minutes round the corner. Only downside was the shower, nothing wrong with the shower itself but the floor was slippy and could do with a mat as I did slip over, luckily no damage but someone could have a nasty accident.

Service was nice. Shower room and shower were fresh and good. Bedroom was shabby; walls and paintwork peeling, carpet stained, mattress needs replacing. Window was very difficult to open and room at front of the house became very hot from sun. Not a quiet room with window open because of traffic.

It was our first stay at Holmwood. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Jamie who was on reception when we arrived. Our room was a twin bed and the bed was so comfortable I wanted to take it home with me. We were on the road side of the hotel but the traffic after eleven was hardly noticeable. It was only a short bus ride to the centre of York and there were several places to eat a evening meal very near the hotel. The breakfast was excellent and the chef and waitresses were again very friendly. I would definitely recommend Holmwood House , especially as the price per night was very good.

Everything was excellent. A little bit expensive though but apart from that nothing else to complain. Comfy, cosy, free parking, it's near the city centre, there is a bus stop in front of it or 15 mins walking. Definitely recommended.

It is an old fashion house, to many stairs no lift, no internet although they have a connection, Lovely staff, parking avaliable, good breakfast, but carpets needs to be replaced, many stains, it was not clean enough but so quite that you could have a deep sleep.

The double room was clean and spacious. The independent bath tub was a lovely touch clean bathroom and white towels. However we paid £10 for the car park only to return at 7pm which isn't very late to find it all full. The staff said park outside on the double yellows as you can between 8pm-6am but that's not the point as we paid to park inside and we're not told you must hurry back to get a place! There were work vans there taking 2/3 spaces too that could have moved out then.

Stay was ok, had to ring the numbers to get the receptionist there. The fan is a noisy nuisance and had to switch off from side of room, each time had to use the loo. The bathroom door was damaged and very difficult to close as was the room door and to main entrance door after 9pm to open. No working lock on toilet door. Hearing went off too early in morning. Breakfast was good.
