The property was in a quiet location & only 10 minute walk to the old city walls & shopping areas. Car parking isnt on site but there is allocated on-road parking nearby.
Breakfast was nice but you have to choose your breakfast selection the evening before.
Probably best to book a first floor bedroom rather than second as our room was small & sounded like it was close to a heating boiler or something running all night. The room was clean but had a sliding bathroom door for space which didnt shut properly & only 1 spare socket not near any mirror or table.

I can only review our room named The Shambles. It was small, located in the roof space so a lot of the room had the roof slope cutting off the space available.
There was tea and coffee provided but only 5 teabags on day 1 & 4 on day 2 also a minimal supply of uht milk cartons. The unit these were situated on was about 40cm high so you had to sit to brew up or bend over a long way. A small kettle took about 10mins to boil 2 cups worth of water
There was one small low down bedroom type chair for two of us.
The bathroom door was a sliding door with no rail at the bottom so it was impossible to open and close without it banging into the frame.
The biggest problem for us was that the walls are very thin and the people in the two neighbouring rooms could be heard when going about their normal business. They disturbed us and I am sure we disturbed them.
The bed and pillows were clean and comfortable.
The breakfast is tasty but not plentiful, my portion of mushrooms consisted of one mushroom about 5cm in diameter, on the second day it consisted of two mushrooms!
There is one DIY domestic toaster for up to 14 people!
There is a full page, in great detail, in the guest information book informing guests how much they will charged if they damage anything!
The guest house is well located for York's attractions being about ten minutes walk from the centre.

Lovely location lovely room we stayed in. The pillows was slightly hard and the mattress was hard as well. Nice breakfast choice although on the full English there was no hash brown. This would have been a good point for me. Rooms are very hollow can hear everything from the next rooms. Lovely people very friendly and very polite.

Walls not sound proof so spent the night listening to a neighbour snoring unfortunately but very comfortable bed. Carpet was vacuumed but could do with a shampoo. Excellent breakfast. Enjoyed our stay at St Raphael Guest House. Very well located ...just a 7 - 8 minute walk to York Minster or York Museum or the theatre. Another few minutes and you are in the heart of the city.

Lovely guest house within easy walking distance of York, it's sites and the Christmas Market. Parking was available nearby. Danny and the staff were very friendly, knowledgeable of the area and always willing to help. The choice and quality of food available for breakfast was excellent. The rooms were very spacious and welcoming and the beds were very comfy. Will return and would definitely recommend.

The hosts were very attentive & also very knowledgeable about the area - the guest house is within a 10 minute walk of York minster, & given the amount of traffic, free parking during your stay is another bonus. Our room was called Stonegate, which is the first room at the top of the stairs.
This is handy when carrying your case upstairs, but not so good when other guests traipse past rather noisily to their own rooms. Added to this, the house is old & creaks quite a lot, & other guests can be heard moving about, coughing etc.
I have mentioned both good & not so good points about our stay, so that there are no surprises, but would add that we will happily revisit St Raphael's in future.

A fantastic location with very friendly, helpful staff. The price was beyond competitive considering the parking and breakfast were included. The only negative would be that the towels were a little fusty but overall a great stay and i would definitely book again if i was visiting york.

The property offered good value for money, was 5 minutes walk from the Minster and city centre. Parking was free outside the place and the staff were attentive and polite. The carpet in our room had a few coffee stains by each bedside table, the bed was very comfy though and the room was quiet. We would definitely book to come again. The dining room could benefit from some music at breakfast time to break the silence. And maybe some plug-ins to freshen up the hallway. Apart from that, it was good!

The B&B felt like home from home. Location 5/5. Staff very friendly. Good breakfast. Bread was too thick for our liking. Room was very clean. Had a parking space which was very convenient. We had one day where our room was missed for service but the team apologised profusely. On reflection, feel like we over spent on accommodation here in comparison to the B&B we stayed at earlier on in the week and it didn’t have the wow factor like the other one. On arrival we did receive lemon drizzle cake which was a lovely gesture and very welcoming.

A very nice and very tidy B&B! The location was perfect for us - we were able to walk all over the old town and it was an easy walk from the train station. Super comfy beds and nice towels. It is an older townhouse with several floors, so no elevator- but that was expected. The hot English Breakfast was very good!

Lovely guest house which is half a mile walk from city centre. Very nice area. We were on 2nd floor. Lovely clean and comfortable room. Good breakfast with plenty of choice. Parking was reserved for us and lucky to find a space just around the corner. Friendly and helpful staff. Would recommend and would definitely stay here again if we come back to York.

A lovely, friendly place that really makes you feel at home! For the price the value for money is fantastic; decent size bedroom with en-suite (and a great shower!), free parking and a hearty breakfast with plenty of options.

Words like charming, English, lovely, wonderful, great location best describe Saint Raphael Guest House. Even more, you must know the staff, especially the manager, Danny, are amazing. They take care of you, always helpful, bright, cheerful and knowledgeable. They can suggest everything from must-see places in York to fit your timetable to must-visit places for dinner, etc. By the way, breakfast is over the top!

Disappointing stay
Booked for one night and was able to check in and leave the car from 11am in one of the designated parking spaces close to b&b .The b&b is close to york centre easy walking distance , there was everything in the room we needed and it was adequate for a small double room .
Unfortunately we experienced an issue in the early hours of the morning which resulted in us checking out and leaving , as nobody lived on site , we felt we didnt have much option .
We did receive a phone call first thing in the morning from the manager very apologetic and reassured us the problem would be resolved.
We are slightly disappointed to right a negative review as the rating was excellent for St Raphael , so was looking forward to our break away .

The parking is free but space is also limited. We lucked out and snagged a great spot. The hotel is so close to town we walked everywhere and never moved the car again. Breakfast was great, the room clean, and the neighborhood safe and easy to walk to all the attractions.

The B&B is in a fantastic location, 10 minute walk to York Minster with great pubs along the way. The guest information book has recommendations for places to eat and drink which we found useful.
We stayed in a double room on the first floor, lovely and clean with little touches which go a long way. The lemon cake and fresh rose flower in the room was wonderful when we arrived. The tea, biscuits and water etc. are also topped up.
We found the bed in our room a little hard for us, but the staff/owners are incredibly friendly and helpful and this was quickly sorted with an extra quilt.

Lovely place to stay! Fran was so welcoming and friendly and very attentive, the area was so lovely and it was a great stay over all! The room was very clean and well presented, and the breakfast was amazing! Made to order along with a great selection of extras. We even got a parking spot which was completely sorted by the hotel. Overall great area no more then 10 min walk to the centre and a lovely street to be on. Would highly recommend this place :)

Our whole stay was amazing !! Beautiful suite big walk in shower. I am disabled , so having a suite was perfect , 10 minute walk to town centre of York .staff were exceptional and even gave me a treat for my birthday, very thoughtful ! Brilliant location with free parking available, only a 10min walk into City centre. Staff are very friendly & welcoming to guests. Rooms are very clean and comfortable with all the facilities we needed. Fran the owner always leaves some of her homemade banana cake which is a lovely touch to welcome guests. Beds are very comfortable and also a nice hot shower after a long day out. The full English breakfast is fantastic and also a good range of other hot and cold choices available. This is our third stay so obviously would definitely recommend this guest house to others.

Very comfortable 3 night stay. No one to receive you on arrival but a key lock number was available to let yourself in. Door keys, parking permit and instructions were all contained in an envelope inside. Breakfast was excellent but a selection of fresh fruit would have been welcome. Service was slick and friendly. The ability to park your car for free is an very nice bonus. Our room was immaculate and we felt right at home. You pre-order your breakfast the night before, so the choice was good and set us up for a nice day. Highly recommend and will be visiting again when next in York
