Staff were excellent very helpful, the room was clean with extra pillows ,blankets plenty of towels and toiletries, hairdryer. Coffee, tea and milk with extra supplies by the door. Only thing missing is a mirror in the room ( was one in bathroom)

The room was very clean and we even got a surprise upgrade to a triple bedroom which allowed us to have more space. It had everything you needed from a fan to toiletries to housekeeping on request. The lady who looked after us was lovely and even let us check in a little early as we arrived earlier than planned. She greeted us warmly each day and explained everything we would need. Everyone we spoke to was welcoming and it only took a few minutes walk before we were in the heart of the city centre. I couldn’t recommend this place more. 10/10

For a budget place to stay, it was adequate. Really good location for a place to stay that's easily walkable to the heart of York. I could feel the springs in the bed, but I slept fine. I recommend anyone who's a light sleeper to request a room at the back - my room was at the front and was very noisy due to traffic. Walls are thin too and I could hear the guests next door's conversations. If the owners read this, I hope you consider adding double glazed windows and nocer mattresses. Also, the shower door (in shared bathroom) didn’t close properly and the bathroom floor got soaked - it didn't affect my stay, but I never saw any staff to be able to report it.

Great location and got more for my money than expected. Very clean and thoughtful. The bottles of water provided with fridge was much appreciated. Very quiet. Only thing that would make it better is the makeup light in the bathroom didn't work and the heating automatically came on in the morning making the room a bit warm. Friendly and polite staff.

Everything was really worth value for your money. However we experienced rudeness during our stay when one of the renters on the other room was knocking our wall and telling us to keep quiet when were not making any noise but because my husband snored which I cant avoid they kept on knocking our wall. He doesn't really snore, but just that particular night he snored because we were literally tired and exhausted from the travel. But can you avoid that? Can they literally shut us up when someone is snoring which is out of our control. They should have rented another hotel if they don’t wanna hear any sound at all. Something sound proof. Of course it is a budget hotel so what do you expect?

I didn't book direct as their website and reviews worried me, but it was one of few available and affordable rooms when I needed them

I was concerned that I was asked to contact them about checking in, but 3 emails and a text elicited no reply. I did find someone in, but reception was a tip, as was outside. The guy on the 'desk' was OK but didn't offer to help with bags.

I noted that the venue claimed 'ensuite rooms' outside, but several aren't, the bathrooms are shared up stairs. One had a tiny door and sh,,,, marks and a dirty used towel for a day. No-one took in the used towels in 72 hours

I was initially relieved that the hotel seemed quite nice, but then, I read the terms in a booklet. These are as bullying as they are unlawful
-they'd said no alcohol, oddly, but now they threaten eviction, no refund, and extra charges
-similarly, a ban on takewaays with charges...
...lost keys, bearing in mind the yale locks and how easily one might forget your key card using the bathroom

They claimed they'd take from our bank account

Hotels. be aware this is unlawful as it's a one-sided nonnegotiated contract, and the terms appear after a contract is made, and it avoids due process and having to provide proof. Hotels then could invent or mischarge or even take revenge on negative reviews.

I take being evicted very seriously, and it's unnecessary

Diamond 'Inn' is not an inn, it provides no food, drink or anywhere to sit other than the bedrooms

Smooth check in process. Room also comes with complimentary water bottles and toiletries. Location was also very convenient - we didn't use transport during our stay as all the touristy location and shops can be accessed by walking. The place also allowed us to leave our bags until 4pm. Only downside is how thin the bedroom walls are ( we can hear everything from next door - from the telly to using the shower lol) otherwise very convenient and would

Good service and nothing too much bother considering ther was improvement work in progress.A safe and clean place to stay.plenty of tea coffee and sugar in th room with a fridge, kettle and a hairdryer too.also a small fridge to keep drinks cold,plus a fan on the room to keep cool on hot days. Plenty of shampoo and other amenities in the bathroom also.would definitely use this guesthouse again.

Loved the central location, easy walking distance for everything, properly is currently undergoing some renovations, our room was basic, but clean and comfortable.

Check in procedure was difficult for an overseas visitor as the only method was via calling a uk mobile number which we were unable to do with our Australian phones, a simple addition of a doorbell would be great.

Another simple addition which would make a big difference would be a mirror in the room close to a power point, so that you can see to dry and style your hair, I ended up sitting in the doorway so I could use the hallway mirror.

Otherwise I was very happy with our stay.

A true budget option. Located a mile from the rail station and a short distance away from the city centre, so whilst not that convenient it was quiet. The room was cramped with a sloping ceiling and no daily room service, no lift to upper floors. Check-in was unnecessarily complicated. You have to phone a UK number to get the code! Never have I had to do that and I had to make an expensive call from a US phone. They should have advised to call on WhatsApp, or better yet, sent the code in an email as most modern hotels do. Shower pressure was poor, mould on the ceiling and the sink drain smelt. On the positive side, it was clean and they provided an ample tea tray but that's not enough to spur me to stay here again.

The staff were very friendly & really helpful sorting our parking out was no problem.
The room was much smaller then we expected so not very comfortable. The shower head was disgusting with faeces which my husband cleaned before he used it !!! Why was there a humming fridge in the room when food & drink were not allowed??Very disappointed sadly.

The staff did not want to talk much, but were willing to help with everything we asked for, they keep the accommodation wonderfully warm! I'd improve the floorboards but otherwise, I'd absolutely stay again and am sure I would have a relaxing time if I did! I'd thank them for the staff's efforts

Good location just a few minutes walk from the centre. Access was via a phone call and then being provided with a code. Key card then in the room.

Really clean. Was a single night stay and didn’t spend long in the room however can’t fault it for location and price. I was on top floor so also was relatively quiet. Didn’t hear the other residents.

I also had my own bathroom which I don’t think all rooms have as I saw separate bathrooms on other floors.

I would recommend for a short trip where you want to have a central location. I didn’t drive so can’t comment on parking.

This was perfect for our family of 5- really easy walkable distance to Xmas market, Minster and pantomime. As a crash pad for the night, it was fine and we’d definitely use it again.

Staff were fantastic and couldn’t be more helpful, including helping us with parking across the road and permit for £7.50 but this is limited.

Cons- the room and fixtures/fittings are tired and need updating. Few stains on carpet etc.

2 adults and 3 young kids so finding a hotel that accommodates all in one room is difficult but I found this little gem. We had a room with one double bed and 3 single beds. Beds really comfortable, room very clean. Tea and coffee making facilities and a mini fridge with bottles of water provided. Plenty of clean towels and small bottles of showergel etc. Only a few minutes walk from the city walls. Great place to stay for the price. Staff were really friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend staying here if you have a family of 5! The kids loved it and wanted to stay in their 'holiday house'. Great base for exploring York. We will definitely return. Thankyou again.

None of the shared toilets or private toilet in our room flushed. It was incredibly hot on 8th floor with no air flow or air conditioning. Ceiling was slanted so you couldnt stand straight without banging head. I would not go back.

please update the methods in which you can check in. as international travellers we are using international SIM cards which make it impossible to call your numbers to check in. we had to sit outside of the property and come up with an alternative method of checking in. we then were joined with two other parties in the exact same situation as us. luckily one of the guests was able to get his sim to work. this however was then met with voicemails. this is not acceptable when majority of people travelling to York are only staying for a short time. time is seriously limited. I suggest that you send the instructions to check in via email rather than relying on phone calls. room and facilities were great just extremely disappointed with the check in process!

We were pleasantly surprised by this little hidden gem. The location is fantastic, parking just a street away, the room was clean and tidy. Very impressed with the quality and size of the towels, complimentary shower get, shampoo and conditioner and a well stocked cuppa tray.

I booked for a double room but was given a family room (with 2 double beds and a single bed) on arrival without any extra charge.I was travelling solo so the space was too much for me.The beds were comfortable.There were enough towels for a family room capacity.There were few bottled water,mugs and teaspoons and plenty of coffee,tea and sugar sachets.If I was travelling with 4 others,the room would be spacious enough.The bathroom was clean.Water pressure in the shower wasn’t strong but not a hassle.
The hotel was near York Minster and the Shambles so the location was very convenient.
I checked in late,around 9pm,and the reception was already closed but the staff were just a phone call away.Quick check in and also check out
All in all,very good value for the money.Would stay here again if I come back to York.

My family and I recently stayed at the Diamonds Inn in York, and unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory. We booked a family room for me, my wife, and our three children, but the conditions were disappointing.

The room was awful dirty. The bed sheets were stained, and the bathroom was unclean. We even found a woodlouse in the bathroom, which was quite unsettling. The peeling paint on the walls and wallpaper added to the overall unpleasantness. The bathroom had hair all over the floor, making it impossible to use the shower. The lack of proper hygiene was concerning, especially during a family stay. The beds had hair in, including on the mattress also the carpet was very stained.
To make matters worse, there was no heating in the room. We had to rely on a storage heater, which was inadequate and uncomfortable.
Our stay at the Diamonds Inn was unacceptable. We felt that the cleanliness and hygiene standards were well below what one would expect from any accommodation.

My Family and I traveled from Canada to the UK. Our last stay was in York, England.We booked this place using expedia. It was very unfortunate and disappointing when we arrived at the Inn. The moment we entered office area we knew then it was a mistake. It was dirty, unorganized. The staff themselves did not look professional as they were as well dirty, and unkept.The so called host, escorted us to our room. I found this a little confusing and strange. She did not give us a key/card to the room. Once inside the room, we found the room disgusting. The flooring was stained beyond belief. The odour I can't explain, but to say it was quite foul. What I found most strange and alarming was when she asked us if we spend a lot of money.Yes, I know this might be a normal question, but it was more of the way she said it. Let's put it this way, I didn't feel that my personal belongings were safe to be left behind while we explored the city.While walking to another Inn, an off-duty policeman explained to us something that was not listed in the expedia listing. We learned that the Diamonds Inn is used quite often for intoxicated or drug induced individuals found on the streets that need a place to crash for the evening. FOR THOSE WHO CHOOSE TO STAY, GOOD LUCK

Stayed for one night, room had everything we needed. Tea coffee even toiletries. We arrived early morning and the receptionist who greeted us was friendly and very helpful we were able to leave our luggage and then go off for the day. She showed us where to park and only cost £7 for 24 hours. Location was perfect 5 minute walk to inside the walls and the hop on off bus outside the hotel. Nice, quant hotel.

Enjoyable weekend city break

We found the location very convenient for all the city centre attractions, and a hotel nearby where we enjoyed breakfast. Our room had everything we needed for our two-night stay, including a small fridge. I didn't check our our daughter's room, but had no complaints. Our bathroom worked well, everything was clean. There wasn't much storage which wasn't an issue for us. The hotel is in an older style house and may benefit from sound-proofing measures.

5 minutes walk to Monksgate and access to the city centre - this was great for convenience.
I had booked two nights, and added on a third; this meant changing rooms, so I was a little annoyed when there were no staff available in the morning for me to stow my bags for moving. I called the number given and was told they would call back, but nobody did, and I ended up having to.take my luggage away for the day.
However, they gave me a very nice room for my last night!

The receptionists tried to charge us twice for the parking. Luckily we noticed and got a refund for the second one. For the price the room was okay clean but not the best facilities and a little run down. It was absolutely boiling in the room but luckily they supply fans so we did get a decent sleep.

All in all was good Parking was started as available on the web site. But apon arrival after reading the welcome pack it was parking available with permit that should be pre arranged. On arrival at the hotel there was no staff around anywhere. I called the contact number on the door who then gave me the two codes for the two does to aces my room. I didn’t see any staff in my two day stay at all.

Better already have a UK phone because at check-in time no one is there; you have to call them. Our room did not have an en suite private bath as represented. Our bath was up a very public flight of stairs. A sign in the room says that no alcohol is permitted. If that is the rule it should be divulged up front. Our last night, the fire alarm sounded at 1:30 in the morning and we had to wait for the proprietor. He said that someone had intentionally pulled the alarm. Previous comments show that he has used that excuse before. They need to get that fixed so that guests can sleep through the night.

Good location. Easy walk to the Monk Bar, the wall, and old town. Price is good if booked through Expedia.

The room was 40 degrees when we arrived and it took 2 days with a little oil heater to get the room warm enough to sleep without wearing our outside jackets. The walls are paper thin to the point that we could not only hear all conversations from another room, but we could hear the person(s) SNORING all night long. This is the most basic of accommodations if you just need a bed and a bathroom. It has gone down hill from 3 years ago. It's safe and in a short distance from the Minster and on the bus route to Castle Howard. Oh, and there's NO daily housekeeping. Want clean towels, go to the front desk between 9:30 and 3:00 or hang 'em up and hope they dry. Sorry, we wouldn't stay there again.
