This is my second time at the Galtres, extremely clean and quiet is located right beside York Minster, the quality of the food at the restaurant is excellent, the people working there are very kind and helpful, a couple of things bothered me a little: there was no light on top of the mirror and no plug for the air dryer in the bathroom, and when taking a shower there is no shelf to put the soap on, so it becomes very uncomfortable try to reach for the soap around the shower, other than that it is a great place to stay.

The whole experience was top drawer. The service was friendly, efficient and easy going, the bed was the best I’ve slept in in a hotel and the room lovely with a great shower. Breakfast was included with a variety of choice based around local produce and generous portions. The hotel is in a beautiful listed building that the owners have preserved and modernised in perfect harmony. Location - two minutes from the Minster in the heart of old world York - perfect. This is such a lovely hotel, we had a twin room on the top floor. The room was clean and comfortable and had a lot of charm. We had breakfast twice and there is plenty to choose from the menu. We also had an evening meal, the prawn cocktail was delicious and they are not shy on the prawns it seemed endless and very fulfilling,followed by salmon and potatoes that was cooked perfectly. The staff were so nice and helpful and nothing was to much .The property itself is a 15 min walk from the train station and in the heart of everything going on . The cathedral was a literally a 2 min walk and the shambles was a 5 min walk . The Xmas market was maybe 5/10 min walk and was charming I came here with my sissy and I plan on returning with my hubby.

The hotel is located right in downtown York, with an excellent location in the old town. However, the facilities are a bit dated, and the bathroom is quite small — the shower water splashes out easily. I only showered for about ten minutes before a staff member knocked on my door saying the ceiling of the room below was leaking 😂. But their breakfast was amazing — it’s ordered from a menu and freshly cooked, very tasty and unique!

The location of the hotel is great York Minster 2 minute walk away, room great for our needs and Breakfast was lovely.
Only issue is the noise from the front of the hotel we had a room at the front and could hear everything plus why the rooms windows were being cleaned at 7.30am was bit of a shock.

For a listed property, it had modern washrooms and comfy bed.
There are no lifts, mind, so if you are not comfortable going up and down narrow stairs, this is not the property for you.
Also, you will probably need to walk to the location, as it is in the historic part of York.
If you do like a historic lodge with helpful staff, right in the middle of the action, where you can walk everywhere and hear the bells of the Minster, this is the place.
Breakfast was good, with plenty of choices.
I would love to come again in the future!

Great but quite a walk to (paid) parking.
The hotel was beautiful and the staff catered to our every need, however, I have recently had surgery and searched for a hotel with parking. The Galtres showed up and we book but the car park was 8 minutes walk away and the parking was over £30 for the night. Unfortunately, I was with my mother who has an arm injury and so we had to carry our bags this distance. Normally it would not have been an issue but I was very unwell upon arrival as the bag was not on wheels and I had my stitches taken out that morning. I would suggest not advertising the hotel to have parking, but cannot fault the hotel for any other reason. We would come back to stay in the future (in full health or bring a smaller bag!)

The hotel is in an amazing location in York, close to Yorkminister cathedral and in the midst of the old city. The staff are friendly and helpful. We were pleased to get early check-in as our room was ready. The breakfast is excellent with lots of choice. Be aware that the hotel does not have air conditioning - that was the only downside for us.

DO NOT stay at this property if you want to sleep past 4.50 am. Road noise/bucket carts/deliveries commenced at 4.50 am, single glazed windows (I understand it’s a conservation area) do not keep out a conversation far less lorry engines and sounds of loading or unloading.

This was more Bed & Breakfast than hotel and was an ideal location for a one night stay in York. Easy to access from the Shambles area. I should have done more checking however as no car parking outside hotel and had to book at local car park 5 mins walk away. The hotel room was a small double and a little small for a couple. Would have been a perfect room for a single person. Breakfast was served downstairs in the Forest bar and was a great start to the day

Love york and always take a photo of the Galtres when i visit as its beautiful outside, stayed with my daughter for one night. The location is fab however extremely noisy all night but i suppose if youre wanting to be in the middle of the centre its a small price to pay.

This historic hotel was really lovely. We were surprised with how spacious the room was. The location is perfect- an easy walk from the train station and right in the middle of town.

The bedroom was warm but the shower room was cold. Very central for everything and a good range of options for breakfast. The rooms are in need of some TLC but I would stay again despite that.

Perfect location for a visit to York and really excellent breakfast. Our room at the top of the hotel was very compact but reasonably comfortable. The en-suite shower room was definitely the smallest we have ever seen. Usable but tiny- and for larger people probably challenging!

Fantastic location , very central . Reasonable quiet of a night.
We stayed in one of the top rooms which we loved ,however it had the smallest bathroom I have ever used ,me and my husband are quite small if you where on the large side I would suggest different room choice . Service ,cleanliness was impeccable . Breakfast choice was good and food was delicious and well cooked.

The hotel is perfectly located in a little street in the city centre. Easy to get to and from and 10 min walking from the train station.
It is surrounded by little shops and restaurants.
The room is a good size. The bed and pillows are OK and the bathroom is a good size as well.
