Difficult to assess as visited in early March, so very much out of season. No hot food on premises. Swimming pool cool (heating issues) on the two occasions we tried, Steam room and jacuzzi were OK, Sauna was out of action. Pool Showers out of action on first visit. Enjoyed the 9 hole pitch and putt. Staff were friendly and helpful. Stayed in the Manor House (a one bedroom apartment), rooms were spacious but real mix of quality of furnishings. Plenty of hot water and ample heating. Outside areas looking in need of work (uneven paving slabs etc).

Initial impressions were good , but I was disappointed when entering the room unfortunately.
The problem with a kitchen and bedroom in the same room is the occasional cooking grease smell from previous use whilst laying in bed on an evening.

Overall we had a great trip, beautiful mountains, relaxing family time, good food and beer.

The facilities need a little TLC but the facilities are there. We had our own communal space which you don't get in a standard hotel room, we swam indoors and outdoors, used the steam room and Jacuzzi, we played pool and games in the reception area, Table tennis and volley ball in the village hall, played golf and tennis and had lovely walks along the trim trail and then there was the rest of Wales.

Its very peacefull and quite and clean.
Its self catering and shops are bit far so best take extra food and grocery.
We stayed in bunglow and they got nice clean kitchen with all the cooking facilities. Rooms are nice but mattress are bit old.View from bunglows are lovely,I ll try to share image. Staff are friendly. All in all 5 stars. Price reflects.

Absolutely Appalling Stay – Avoid at All Costs

We booked Macdonald Plas Talgarth Holiday Resort expecting a relaxing break, but what we got was a nightmare. Our first room was filthy – covered in dust and cobwebs, with spiders in every corner of the bedrooms and moths everywhere. To make matters worse, I even found someone else’s fake eyelashes in the bed, which says a lot about the so-called “cleaning standards.”

We complained immediately and were moved to another room, which was only slightly better. Throughout all of this, the manager, Mark, never once came to meet us, apologise, or offer any form of discount for the huge inconvenience of moving rooms and losing two nights of our holiday – especially disgraceful given that I am heavily pregnant.

Since returning home, we have tried calling Mark for five days straight, leaving messages, but have received no reply. This level of customer service is completely unacceptable.

If you value cleanliness, basic hospitality, and any level of care from management, do yourself a favour and avoid this place entirely.

Such a shame that things feel rough around the edges given the potential of the place.

The grounds are very nice and good for families, however the resort seems to have been left to ruin. The villa we stayed in was dirty and hadn't been cleaned, we had to hoover the whole place and the carpets (which are thread bare) were infested with flies and bugs. Checked the beds for bugs but didn't find any thankfully. Unfortunately wouldn't stay again unless renovated to a decent standard.

Property (No9) was good and clean and we very much enjoyed our stay.
However We were told there were only 5 small steps, but the steps were not small, there were eight large ones in total. (If we had both been unable to get up steps we would have found it impossible to check in or both of us to use the spa facilities as the main building has multiple steps which we were not told about).

You have to book 1 hour time slot to use swimming pool and other area of spa. On top of that pool water wasn’t heated for the duration of stay. Outdoor pool is useless in cold weather as it’s not heated pool. There was no communication about it from hotel or hotels.com property description.

We had a pleasant stay but we were a bit surprised that we were staying in self-catering This wasn't made that obvious when booking but in all the place was nice andfriendly. It would have been nice if the apartment was warm before we got there as it took a good hour to get it up to a comfortable temperature. We also arrived at 6:00. The spa was not open which is a real shame as that's one of the main reasons for booking. It closes at 5:00. Be aware. . . The restaurant serves really nice food and the gentleman in charge of it is friendly and helpful. He even helped us get some milk and tea for the morning as we didn't have this in the room. In need of updating throughout, bed needed changing as hadn’t been changed. Housekeeping came the following morning apologised and replaced all with new bedding. The whole apartment smelt damp and musty. Reception staff friendly and helpful. Bar expensive and bar toilets absolutely disgusting. Very expensive for what it is and certainly not up to standard, would not return or recommend.

The resort was good, we liked the huge estate and the rooms. The reception was not very welcoming. Tennis court condition was poor. Some toilets didn't have a hot& cold mixer tap and it was really difficult to flush the toilets!

- **Damp Odor:** The pervasive smell of dampness in Apartment L9 made it uninhabitable and posed potential health risks.

- **Lack of Hot Water:** Apartment H5 had no hot water, making basic hygiene and comfort impossible.
- **Health Risks:** Exposure to damp environments can lead to serious respiratory issues, which is unacceptable in a hospitality setting.

I have read some of the reviews and sometimes wonder what people expect. We stayed in a two bedroom classic bungalow and was impressed with the space and fittings of our accommodation. There is some room for improvement if critical and is not really worth mentioning here. We did not use any of the facilities onsite but we received a warm welcome on arrival and were very accommodating. We could see the pool and had a look at the small gym both looked looked good. Did not see the steam room. Our focus was very much about the surrounding area, the views and waterfall..... We had a 3 night stay and would wished we had at least another two.

Warm Welsh Welcome

Warm welcome on arrival from a very helpful and knowledgeable Sian. Our accommodation was great, very spacious, clean and well equipped with all the home comforts needed. The accomodation was set in beautiful lush countryside with rolling hills and mountains around it, all the fresh air and scenery you'd want for a peaceful break. The resort had an indoor and outdoor pool, as well as other facilities that were complimentary, but our stay was too short, so we didn't get to use them, we'll be back for the outdoor pool alone.

We stayed in a villa and the first thing we noticed was the overpowering smell of mould / damp. When we spoke to reception staff they were very understanding and moved us to another villa which although not as clean as I would have liked, didn’t smell of damp. We ordered food from the bar and I was looking for to some authentic Indian cuisine, but the curry I got tasted like it had came from a tin. The grounds are well kept and the area is lovely. The staff are also really nice and helpful and we did have a nice time. It’s just a shame that MacDonald Resorts expect paying guests to stay in damp accommodation. The buildings could really do with updating.

Never fails to disappoint

It’s old and sad and tired. Needs a massive investment which is unlikely if it’s up for sale with no buyer in the offing. It’s an amazing location with lovely grounds and could be fantastic.
The outdoor swimming pool was closed putting pressure on the indoor pool which was closed last time I went. The flat was not clean , the kitchen tap leaked and the bedroom window was rotten and warped..A local told me some maintenance staff had been let go.
It’s really on its last legs which is a shame as it could be so good.

The property was mouldy and as a result was disgusting to be inside. The smell was awful, and it got inside your lungs. The damp level also meant that it was hard to dry towels even with heaters on all day. The swimming pool and changing rooms were sprays dirty. It was hard to swim a length without gathering bits of hair in your hands. It would seem the pool had no filtering.

We booked a 3 bedroom apartment which was more a 4 storey house. There was plants off space for our family off 6 but it is in desperate need off refurbishment. I also wasn’t aware the bedrooms are in difference floors which wasn’t ideal with very young children. Overall we had a nice stay was a great base for exploring. Kids really enjoyed the pool and staff were very friendly. We didn’t eat in site so can’t comment on the food.

Lovely stay in a 3 bed bungalow. Plenty of space for our family of four and having a shower room/toilet in addition to the main bathroom was great. The property had storage heating but it was really efficient and we were never cold during our stay. Plenty of hot water. It was very quiet and peaceful even though we were located only a 2 minute walk from reception. Kitchen was well equipped. If I wanted to nit pick I could say that it would be better to have a washing machine rather than a dishwasher in the kitchen, although I think there's a laundry on site it would be easier to do washing in the property, always handy with kids! There's no iron in the property either although you can request one to be sent to the property. When a handyman repair was needed it was attended to the same day. Although strangely what appeared to be a bundle of used sheets or towels remained next to our front door for the entirety of our stay!
Again another nit picking point but it would be handy to have more hooks on the backs of doors to hang towels etc.
We used the pool every day during our stay, the kids loved it even though it's a plain rectangular pool. There are floats and woggles for use there. Changing rooms could do with modernisation.
We visited the restaurant once, the food was decent pub type fayre, reasonably priced, but service could have been better/faster (staff not checking with tables regularly whether drinks required etc, desserts took a long time to arrive).

All in all I would definitely recommend it.

We stayed in one of the chalets which looked a bit tired from the outside - a few loose paving slabs - but was actually really nice once inside. In addition there was a good kitchen so allowing self catering which saved money plus we were allowed to have the dog with us. We were running the Wales Coast Path and so had the added benefit that the path passed right by the chalet. All in all I would definitely recommend it.

Restaurant was open but not enough staff, they burnt both our Pizza and Garlic bread.
Apartment was not clean, shower was bad, instant electric hot water boiler didn't work, gas boiler didn't work. Rooms were not cleaned. Talking to reception doesn't work. Shower even in swimming were all broken.
It's definitely doesnt deserve the rating it good.

The bed was comfortable. Heated towel rail. Large dining room table with plate and glass mats. Kitchen had everything necessary including ice cube tray and scissors. The patio had a place for barbeque and chairs and tables. We had a tv in our lounge and bedroom. The view from the dining room and upstairs lounge was lovely and green. We stayed in a 3 bedded property (Patio Home) The sliding patio door and sliding living room door to balcony were very stiff. I enjoyed the trail to the coastal path.

Fantastic Location & Accommodation!

I booked a short 2night break for myself and my family and after reading some of the reviews, i started to feel very apprehensive about our impending stay. However, upon arrival we were all blown away by the picturesque views and roaming livestock, its was just the perfect backdrop!

The accommodation was very welcoming, clean and much larger in size than i could have expected. It provided all the facilities we needed including a dishwasher. We all enjoyed a very comfortable stay and will definitely be re-visiting again.

Overall this location and accommodation exceeded our expectations and much much more!

Lovely 3 night stay for my husband and myself and our dog. We booked a one bedroom cottage but got a two bedroom one which was great. On the drive up to the holiday village the place looks a little dated but inside the accommodation was fine. We eat in the bar/restaurant one night which was great and had a drink outside on the terrace another night. Gardens are lovely and well kept and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Overall it was great but a little niggle was the dirty windows and balcony, both could do with a clean but the rest of the cottage was spotless.

Disgusting! health authorities should be informed

We saw reviews mounting up about cleanliness and severe mould in the rooms. I called in advance of us travelling and was assured this would not be the case and they would ensure our accommodation would be perfect... every room had black mould and a strong smell of damp!! We talked about raising it and checked online for availability also knowing they assured us the accommodation would be perfect we just felt we could fight a loosing battle and ruin our trip!! First destination was the local supermarket for bleach and cleaning products just to get it habitable!! On leaving I raised it with the receptionist, yes reviews confirmed they are very direct and rude!! Very disappointed and not the standard we’ve experienced with Mac Donald’s hotels... appalling and feel health authorities should investigate as I would not let young children stay in these rooms, anyone with Asthma should avoid!!

More issues including loose railings, broken waste pipes with grey water running outside the kitchen and poo stained linen.

In summary, disgusting and health authorities should be informed! Especially under current COVID circumstances!!

Brilliant time. Property was good,bathrooms are probably ready for a upgrade but has everything you need. Cleanliness was ok, could have been slightly better eg hoovering under beds, furniture and under sofa cushions. Staff are fantastic, extremely helpful and under circumstances with been slightly understaffed due to covid did a excellent job. All the facilities were not open but enough for us might have been slightly different if the weather had been bad all week. The area is beautiful and I would recommend.

Nice place for families. For us it's a full 7.5/10

What we liked:
- beautiful countryside location;
- green areas well cared and looked after;
- good restaurant take away service (price and quality) due the COVID-19 restrictions;
- apartment well furnished with toaster, dishwasher [quite old though ok], microwave, China set, mugs, cups, different types of glasses and dishes, cutlery and knives, pots and pans, Henry hoover.

What we couldn't rate due to COVID19 restrictions: pool, spa, playground

What we didn't like:
- old fridge, it took 3 days to work full steam; - cleanliness could be better [few dead pillbugs in the corners mean the apartment wasn't really cleaned on the day or the day before we arrived; I had to re-hoover myself all the carpet areas following my wife's dust allergy flare on day 1 of our stay];
- energy charge: despite it was mid July, we were not blessed by a lovely weather and we were obliged to switch the heating on for few hours every day (which is electric and quite dated) in the bedroom, living room and the towel rail due to cold&damp. Also, the hotplate is electric as well as the water boiler which serves the whole apartment. So be ready to be charged upon check out with a bill which is not in single figures even after 5 nights only!
- WiFi: we are grateful that WiFi was included in the price. We preferred not using it as unstable and with a maximum download peak of 2Mbits which was 10folds less compared to the 4G coverage we had on our smartphones - which we used

More Like a Pricey Holiday Campground than a Hotel

The Plas Talgarth Resort hosts a world-class restaurant with a cheerful and friendly bar and wait staff. The same cannot be said of the front desk staff, who seemed mystified at a request for additional milk and sugar for morning tea (it never arrived) and found the lack of wi-fi receptivity amusing. We didn't. There was no wi-fi or, for that matter, any phone connectivity in the room.

These rooms are designed for the self-sufficient tourist: bring your own supplies and leave your cell phone behind.

The advertised pool table was a child's table. The outdoor pool was closed. The indoor pool was in a glassed, wide open area that did not appeal to the more private of customers (like us).

Peaceful

Peaceful stay with lovely views. Only downfall was no one can help you find your actual apartment as it says self service and not enough staff to help. I had to go round looking for my apartment at night with kids with me and luggage. Couldnt see the signs as it was dark.
Changing room for swimming is too small.
Apart from that was nice.
