The hostess at this property was so helpful and accommodating. It is located in a very beautiful area not too far from town. There is ample parking.

Originally, we had a minor issue with our room. I reported it to the hostess. She graciously upgraded our room to a better one at no additional charge.

The room we slept in was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was clean. The bed was very comfortable. Additionally, the hotel has a pretty good Indian restaurant. We had a delicious dinner there.

My stay was ok for one night. Unfortunately as I booked the last room available it was a suite & it was like a loft & there were stairs up to the room & two flights in the room which for me was too much.
The staff were very pleasant & my breakfast was good.

Good parking room small and in the eves kept banging head and she is not a tall person .electrics need looking at and TV kept dropping signal .It was very hot but staff gave us a very good fan .Food we had was lovely.but it would help when booking to explain it's all indian.and there is no lift .

Pleasant enough room and very clean.
Could have done with a plug socket near to the full length mirror to do my hair.
By sheer chance Hubbie had an extension lead in the boot of the car....otherwise I would have been stuck!
Also, the table in the room was tiny, and had the hot drinks equipment on it so there was nowhere to put things like keys, make up etc. I would definitely suggest something a bit bigger...the room was plenty big enough.
All in all though, we slept fine and a plus was being open to open a window which you can't in many hotels these days.

The hotel is in a lovely location and we selected an upgraded room, with a huge bathtub.
The room was lovely, well decorated with a comfortable bed, quality furnishings, deep pile carpet and amazing views. We appreciated the big fluffy towels and tea making facilities.
Unfortunately though the cleaners let this hotel down.
As soon as we headed up the stairs to our room, I noticed how filthy the carpets were, they looked like they hadn't been hoovered in weeks.
I hoped the room was better... Well it wasn't much , our carpet hadn't been hoovered and the bathroom wasn't properly cleaned.
The receptionist was very apologetic and showed us another room, but this was actually even more dirty... So she herself had to clean our original room before we could stay in it. But there was still toothpaste on the mirror and shelves were dirty and dusty.
This place has been decorated with care and quality but nothing is more important than cleanliness. The management here, need to be monitoring and keeping on top of the cleaning staff before they ruin this hotel completely.
It's a shame as you can already see stains on the beautiful carpet but if they were cleaned regularly they would stay nice, same as corners of the showers building up with dirt.
I think overall it's a lovely place and would probably stay again.

The room was very warm and small but adequate. Great shower. The property manger was very nice. The food in the restaurant had a diverse and unusual choices and tasted excellent.
Overall the building needs some tlc as most walls and doors looked scruffy and marked. The recent restaurant additional looks very nice and smart.

I was greeted by a lovely, friendly and helpful person who began my stay brilliantly. High Tor hotel is kept as clean as it can be and everything worked in my room. The shower was powerful and hot - a welcome relief at the end of a day spent walking and exploring, and the bed linen was spotless.

High Tor comments:
I fancy we caught the High Tor at a time when it was going thru a change period.
- the grounds outside needed a gardiner
- The building needed a good paint job, especially the windows (maybe replacing)
- I think we were the only customers that first day, only my car in the car park!
- There were staff available but except when we checked in we didn’t see anyone stationed at the reception desk - not even for checkout!
- We ordered breakfast for the following morning and we arrived at the breakfast room before the cook arrived!
- No one cleaned our room we made our own bed; and tea bags/milk were not replaced
- Bathroom had minimal space eg no shelves for bathroom items
- The second day had more people, well cars in car park
- I’m not convinced anyone from the staff was on sight overnight but maybe available by phone!! Is that legal?
- Menu was limited and evening meals seemed specific to Indian meals

Good location between Matlock and Matlock Bath. Parking was fine. Definitely a basic hotel. Rooms very small. Bathroom very dusty. Tea and coffee supplies were minimal. Staff had to be called for using a bell. Nobody on reception when we arrived. We never had breakfast or dinner at the hotel (plenty of places in the town).

room was terrible we was up in the attic very small room, room wasn't very clean stains on the mattress protector carpet was stained, couldn't see out of the roof window as it was thick with green moss. I think there was only one member of staff doing everything as we didn't see anybody else no cleaners or anybody. Breakfast was poor considering we had to pay £12.99 extra for it the continental breakfast was very poor, we was the only ones in the resturant. would not be staying here again!

Interior decor of communal spaces was lovely. Only outside seating area small gravelled section on edge of carpark. Room 4 not spacious but adequately furnished. Bed was comfortable. Luxury large shower compartment and multi-jet shower unit. Grime and discolouration around shower frame, plug and back of toilet seat. Secondary glazing on window blocked road noise well but excessive grime around frame. Hostess was friendly and consistently cheerful and appeared to be responsible for reception, bar, breakfast and housekeeping single- handed.

Our mountain view room was fabulous. The bathroom especially was lovely. The manager allowed us to leave our luggage before check-in so we could visit The Heights of Abraham. We travelled by train so couldn't leave in a car. Myself and my friend will definitely return!

There was only one member of staff there over our 2 day stay & she was really nice and helpful (she seemed to be covering reception, housekeeping & kitchen). Got to say all the public areas could do with a good hoover and the skylight in our room was covered in green algae. Our room was clean (apart from the skylights) but small. Breakfast was really poor for the price we paid.
Hotel in general needs a good update as has loads of potential.

Disgusting value for money, avoid at all costs!

What was meant to be a romantic trip for my fiances 50th ended up being a total let down.

The hotel has issues spanning from the plumbing to general cleanliness and is going to take a considerable outlay if they ever expect the place to get any guests - far too many to mention here anyway.

My main issues was with our room, as it was nearly £100 a night.

Firstly the whole place is like a sauna...combine that with stale oil smell and it is very off-putting.

Opening the window is fine, but we had a mountain view, so it was on the front next to the road and far too loud to sleep with wide open.

The king bed had an indentation in it which made you feel like you was falling to one side - Very uncomfortable.

The room next door was occupied with what I believe to be the owners family. Kids shouting at 7am with walls so thin, I could hear every single word they said when talking normally!

Broken furniture, dirt and grime everywhere, portable heaters on the floor and extention cables and many many many other issues which I would expect in a Benidorm B&B, not here!

We used the hotel as a stay over as it was close and in walking distance of Matlock. It was a 3 mile motorcycle ride to Matlock Bath .

Rooms were an ok standard, but we were expecting more, as historically the hotel was known to be one of the better ones in the area. We were disappointed with the quality of finish in the bathroom (bath water was luke warm at it's hottest setting and the tap fixture leaked water through the top of the fawcet when opened. The sink made funny noises and the water pressure was erratic.

The room wasn't spacious and we felt a little cramped, although it was just about ok for our needs.

Lovely welcome upon arrival with a rose and a chocolate for Valentines Day. The bedding and bath sheets were spotless as was the rest of the room and the en-suite. I slept like a log! We didn't have breakfast as we knew we'd be having a late night but we did check out the bar area and that looked clean and comfy. We will definitely be returning, this time for longer.

This was as a very last minute trip. Managed to find this hotel at a decent price so we could visit friends nearby. The room was lovely, a mixture of traditional with some quirky updates. We didn't spend very long in the hotel so cannot really comment on the food or service but good for us.

The room was really well decorated and modern with fresh towels and chocolates on our pillows when we arrived. We did have a few issues with our stay which we emailed to the hotel after we left and got an immediate reply - the staff were incredibly helpful and apologetic and offered us a full refund straight away for the trouble.

Very nice room with a lovely comfy bed and big bath tub. The mechanism to raise the bath plug was broken through so I had to dig my nails in around the plug to lift it up to get it to drain. could have done with more hooks to hang outside coats and towels. But very good lighting and it was nice to have a few mirrors.

The car park needs some repairs - the stone wall on the descent has fallen down making it a bit tricky to drive down before joining the main road again. We were in a small car so managed but bigger cars could get damaged. there is also an abandoned silver car in the carpark - mouldy windows and flat tyres - which makes the car park look unsafe

Water in room was brown. Was itchy after having washed. No soap/hand wash etc, all dispensers weee empty. Remote control for the TV was missing. Arrived to room window being wide open and the room freezing. Only plug in heaters to warm room up which took ages. Bed felt overly worn out and very sagged. No one around at check out.

Clean and immaculately presented room. Shame the blinds in the bedroom and the heating didn’t work, although an electric heater was provided which was very efficient. Breakfast was delicious although needs to be booked in advance (not made clear to me). No dinner was served apart from snacks at the bar, but there are many good places to eat out in Matlock. The one man on reception was very helpful and friendly, although the hotel did feel like a bit of a ghost ship. Good location only 10 to 15 minutes from Matlock or Matlock Bath.
