Amazing and too short. Loveliest little B&B with one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Incredibly clean with updated bathroom(s). So quiet, even though almost full. Will be going back, regularly!

This was a one night stay. The property is an older house in the city center. We were here to help a friend celebrate a birthday. The B&B was very close to the party making it easy to come and go. The room was small but comfortable. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic.

This is an old house redone into a bed/breakfast. The bed was comfortable for a quick night stay, and the breakfast was very good that the host made himself. Was not wearing very clean attire when we met, but I feel that was just fine because he was a real down to earth person and very hospitable.

Another wonderful stay. We stayed in the Seahorse room again, with our 50 lb puppy this time. It worked better than I could have hoped and Michael made us feel right at home. Lots of great hikes to tire us out by evening and a comfy, quiet room in which to crash. Michael’s breakfasts beat any restaurant I’ve encountered. Absolutely delicious and plentiful. I highly recommend and look forward to our next visit.

Superb enchantment of a cozy stay!!! Room, bed and bath (jacuzzi surprise) was just what the body and soul needed. Immaculately and warmly outfitted and for this full moon weekend near Halloween, it was burgeoning with hilarious and thoughtful Halloween & autumnal fare. Mike is a top chef/cook and a joy to know and be around (BTW, I wanted to sign the guest book and forgot) This location couldn't be more convenient to Madison's small, charming town center and the great ocean nearby.

Amazing! Beautiful old house converted to b and b. Arriving went without a hitch. Comfortable bed. The next morning, I saw the beautiful grounds (even a gazebo!) and enjoyed Michael’s breakfast. Coffee, juice, fruit, freshly made scones, wild mushroom omelet with sourdough bread. Couldn’t finish it all but Michael packed it to go. Will come back whenever I return to Madison.

The facility was clean, beautiful on the inside and out and the complimentary breakfast was amazing. Seriously, do NOT skip the breakfast. Free coffee and local tea, cold water from a bubbler, the area is very nice and beaches are within walking distance (some only a 5 min drive away as well). The room was spotless and and bathroom was very clean. A very nice man named Michael runs the whole show and he does an amazing job. Highly recommend and I will be returning. We came from our wedding to spend the night. The next morning when I went for breakfast, I was informed that I should have responded to a text or email confirming our desire for food. This was brought to my attention in front of other guests which made me feel awkward. Totally inappropriate. I chose not to stay and eat. The booking description clearly stated breakfast included. And I checked my email and text and never received that message. Should I have to, coming from my wedding? Which I told the operator about when confirming the check-in procedure prior to arrival. Overall, neutral experience. The room was big and spacious and the had a patio which would be nice in a different time of year. It was the lack of hospitality that has turned me off.

The room was comfortable enough but it’s an old house with a lot of crooked lines so we had to put our bags in front of the door to keep light from coming in at night. But the location was superb and the host was so accommodating. And Madison is a lovely little town on the Sound with a great beach.

The property was so charming and very well maintained. First thing that got my attention was the Christmas tree. The place was beautifully decorated with Christmas things all thru out the house. That was a plus. It was located just a few minutes walking distance away from town which had a book store, Cafe, and a few stores to shop. Michael was so welcoming. He showed us to our room, recommended a few spots to eat and served us excellent breakfast. My husband loved the baked grapefruit. Oh, and the bed was so comfortable. Best sleep in a very long time.

The hotel was very nice, and cozy. My only complaint was the bed was very loud you couldn’t move an inch without it squeaking. The house had a lot of character and was very unique. The host was very nice and made us an awesome breakfast. I told him I was allergic to blueberries the day before and he specifically made my parfait without them. The waffle with raspberries and peaches was AMAZING 😍

My husband and I have been staying with Michael at the Scranton Seahorse Inn since 2013. Since that time, we've developed a friendship with innkeeper Michael (and his dogs Cash and Theo), who always makes us feel at home when we visit.
We stayed in the first floor room, the Madison Getaway, this last visit, and it was SPECTACULAR. Between the giant Jacuzzi, and the working fireplace, plus the private porch, we were comfortable and relaxed for our anniversary weekend.
We brought a bag of our local farm CSA items for Michael, and he used them at breakfast each day. His breakfasts are unlike anything you'll find anywhere else--things like an egg roulade stuffed with butternut squash and leeks, or a market frittata with spinach, roasted parsnips and an heirloom tomato salad. I cannot say enough good things.
To say we enjoyed our stay is a true understatement. Michael consistently goes out of his way to ensure that every guest has their needs met, and has an unforgettable vacation.

What a fantastic stay we had here! The inside and outside grounds were fantastic. The gathering space inside and out were perfect, some of the outside seating could use updating but overall it was beautiful. We were here for the weekend for a wedding and I can't say enough about our room, the cleanliness of the inn and staff, not to mention the fantastic breakfast Michael made each morning. He was so attentive and was sure to accommodate everyones dietary needs. I have been to many beatiful B&B's in New England, Arizona and Ireland- this one is one of the top on my list.

Once again our stay was wonderful...we've stayed here several times as it is close to home and a great value for a quick getaway. Michael is a wonderful host and great cook as well. We've been to a couple of his dinner events on Friday nights and they fantastic. You merit such fun people. Madison is a beautiful town with lots of history, beautiful homes, great downtown shops and rrastaurants close to the beach too. Highly recommend a stay. You will make it a favorite place too.

Perfectly situated b&b, with a gracious, interesting and delightful owner. While the house could use a little TLC, the beds and sheets were the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The breakfasts were fabulous; filling and delicious. Seriously eat anything and everything that is offered! Baked goods were a hit! And their coffee is outstanding. Somehow we missed the complimentary wine, but we'll look for it next time ;)

It is always a pleasure staying at the Scranton Seahorse Inn. The location is great for is. The Inn is so cozy and welcoming. We have stayed several times. This last visit on Friday was so nice as Michael has a chef come in to prepare a 4 course dinner for the guests. You can come just for the dinner, no overnight stay necessary. But of course why wouldn't you want to stay? Michael is a great cook himself and breakfast is always fresh and home cooked. Beds are so comfortable too. Lots of interesting places to explore close by and of course you are moments from the beach. Michael always makes time to sit with us and catch up on things. We would highly recommend staying here to anyone.

Wonderful and quiet inn near the beach
This was a quaint historical inn set back from the main road so it was quiet at night. Nearby Essex is one of the prettiest small towns in New England & a place to visit while here. Madison itself is a great beach town with well known shops and some excellent restaurants and cafes. It also has an old time movie theater that can be walked to for an evening movie. The inn itself is older but beautifully decorated...our room was very comfortable and quiet. The big plus is the owner- Michael - who will help you with suggestions on where to go or eat. He also makes some terrific breakfasts! We would definitely recommend the Scranton Seahorse Inn.

The Inn is a big, rambling house right in downtown Madison, an easy stroll to shops and restaurants. Our room was attractive and private, with a very comfortable bed. Michael, our host, could not have been nicer and gave us fabulous breakfast. Highly recommended!

Michael and his dogs are such wonderful hosts- make sure to ask Michael about his favorite things to do in the area! The breakfast is delicious, the house is quaint but spacious, and the center of town is just a one-minute walk from the site. Lovely old B&B in the village of Madison, Ct.
We arrived after a swim at the beach to be greeted by the affable innkeeper, who had been tending his vegetable garden. The beautiful 19th century inn is charming in a European way. Our room, which was comfortable, had the only direct access to a communal veranda decorated with wicker chairs and a table. So it was like having our own porch. We sat there and drank a glass of wine before walking to the small Bar Bouchee restaurant down the road to enjoy a really delicious French meal. The TV in the room was somewhat small and seemed to have access to only one channel (we are not techies), but who cares about TV when you have access to the beautiful village, the local beach and walks in Hammonasset State Park? The full breakfast featured a spinach frittata and tomatoes from the innkeeper's garden. It was a lovely mini-vacation. The inn is highly recommended!

A Great Getaway!
A delightful second stay at the Scranton Seahorse, and looking forward to my next. Amazing B&B with Wonderful Service!
I enjoyed my stay here so much! I stayed in the Town View room. The bed was comfortable, I loved the jacuzzi tub in its own little room. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Michael the innkeeper was so hospitable~ welcoming me out at my car on arrival and helping me with my bags was such a pleasant surprise! He was very knowledgeable about the area, and kindly addressed all guest questions. The mini fridge on the main floor was a great idea, enabling us to store cold drinks in the summer. I loved the bike rentals on site, they were reasonable ($10) for the day and well maintained. I would definitely come here again!

Beautiful quint bed and breakfast in the heart of Madison Ct. The Inn is charming nicely decorated. Perfect for a weekend getaway, close to beach and town. We absolutely loved our stay. Location was excellent for us and all that we wanted to do the week we were there. We even had extra location perks such as a nice little strip of unique shops right there, running trail, and shoreline was a walkable distance. Loved the room. The room was cozy, clean, and comfortable. The little extra touches through the Inn made for a fun and relaxing time when we weren?t out and about?movie library, books, games, bikes, and a wonderful outdoor sitting area. During our 2 day stay, we were greeted to old town feel in historic Madison. It was refreshing to take a late summer evening stroll down main street and stop for old fashioned hand scooped ice cream. Within a half a mile of this location, however, the town has a modest night life with comfortable bars that were not overly crowded and an inviting atmosphere.
Our room, aptly named The Madison, was alone on the ground floor of the home and we were free to move through all the common rooms with no disturbances providing a very private experience for my Fiancée and I. The room, itself, was decorated to give a classic look to the antique backdrop of the home. The Jacuzzi tub with rainfall shower was a focal point of our stay and set the mood for romance along with the soft lighting of the room.
Our breakfast for both days was prepared and served by Chef Michael while we ate and shared our experiences in the common dining room with other guest. The guest, who were more familiar with the New England area, was glad to give advice on sites to visit and things to do why we enjoy our 4 star breakfast.
We would close out each night with a nightcap of hot tea before turning down our sheets in our cozy queen bed and sleeping restfully without disturbance.

Very quiet place, but on the main drag and just steps away from boutique shopping, restaurants, movie theater, art gallery, antique shop, food shops, ice cream parlor, first rate book store, across the street from the Library, lovely setting among old homes and stately trees. Beautifully decorated and appointed. Fantastic breakfast. Owners very helpful in recommendations, things to do. Largest state park/beach/bike trail/birdwatching all 10 minutes away. You will never find a more comfortable or more convenient place to stay.

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night and had a wonderful time. The owner, Michael Hafford was quite welcoming and immediately showed us around the bed and breakfast and our room, which was very nice.
The grounds are also quite beautiful, including an English garden, a gazebo, outside places to eat and a lovely big porch.
We had a lovely stay and Michael is a very good chef and prepared a delicious breakfast. We also had access to a beach pass provided by The Scranton Seahorse Inn.

Delightful and relaxing!
Absolutely wonderful B & B! Michael is a wonderful innkeeper and chef. The breakfasts were the best-- my husband is still talking about the tasty frittata! Clean and comfy with lots of attention to detail are what you will find here. Gardens filled with flowers and birds are an added bonus and the inn is a short walk to the beach. We also had a superb dinner just down the street at Elizabeth's Cafe. The Scranton Seahorse was a delightful experience for our first time in Madison. We only wish we could have stayed longer but hope that we can visit again. THANK YOU, Michael, for the wonderful stay!
