The place wasn't terrible and the staff was pleasant. The name and photos are misleading. This is basically a motel trying to seem like an inn or small hotel. It looks like the type of place that attracts a questionable clientele, but because it's Old Saybrook, they probably get a lot of wedding/event guests. The room itself was clean and pleasantly furnished, but the one easily accessible outlet was worn out and chargers kept falling out. The tub had a large crack in it (we did not use it). It was overall fine if you're staying for those reasons or a long distance travel break, but if you're looking for a couples weekend/nice place to stay, this isn't it.

Pics are not what the rooms look like. Worn and tired. Mildew or mold in bathroom ceiling and upper wall. Way overpriced for the establishment and amenities. Asked for refund when arrived said not what expected and said couldn't do that due to third party booking. When I woke up in am saw small black bug on side of sheet and advised clerk checking out. He insists the rooms are clean and not a bedbug. Google search suggests might be. Left bedclothes behind just in case and luggage will stay in garage when get home. Can't chance it. Said manager will look at room and call me, no call yet to confirm or deny type of bug. Your call whether to stay there or not, me never again.

The mold was seen visible in the bathroom and the floors were not clean. Old furniture and asked for a rebate to no avail. Was told the property was updated. Beds are old and furniture is not new. TV has very few stations. Was not satisfied at all.

The heater in our first room blew cold air and we had to have our room changed. The second room heating worked but the refrigerator would not close so we had to keep it closed by pushing a chair against the door to keep it shut and not have our food spoiled.
At 7:30 the following morning no one was in the office and responded when we pushed the door bell. We left the keys in the key drop box outside and where unable to report the broken refrigerator to management. The two staff we met were cordial but that does not make up for the conditions mentioned above.

If you can look beyond the immediate exterior and sense of disrepair (it's not...), then you can enjoy the stay here. While there is no swimming pool, the property is well positioned to the coast and local beaches.
They were doing some road construction immediately outside the property and on the route to the shore roads, this should be wrapped up fairly quickly.
Restaurants were close enough to walk to, we recommend Luigi's for their calamari, whether it be for seafood or pizza. There is even a store selling fresh produce right down the street.
Enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again in the future if the opportunity presents itself.

The problem is that you can hear everything in all of the rooms above and to the right and left of you. I had a room on the first floor. I could hear every door shut, every step taken above me, and and most every conversation going on around me. It's a cute little place not far from the town center and ocean, however, if you need to have a sound sleep, be aware that it won't happen.

Very clean bare-bones hotel in a quiet location. Large rooms. Nice breakfast place across the road and a short drive to more services and stores. Helpful staff. Only criticism -- and it's an important one -- is that there were no friction strips or other kind of safety on the bathtub, so it was unexpectedly slippery.

The negatives: the pillows had a bit of a smell (not the cases but the actual pillows); the bathroom smelled like it had been cleaned with a dirty sponge. The positives: the floor is laminate and so no icky carpet; the bed was comfortable and clean; heat/ac worked great; I felt safe there; it’s away from the noise of 95. This motel is really on par with the others in Old Saybrook. Alternatives are more expensive.

My room was no where near clean. Not only was there multiple urine stains on the toilet seat, there was also a fecal stain that was also not cleaned IN the toilet. How do you not clean the TOILET?

Room could have been cleaner. The floor was dirty. The room also looked worn and in need of updating. The tub faucet dripped constantly, but the shower was nice. Staff was friendly. I was surprised they don’t offer daily housekeeping. Bed was comfortable. It was great that the room had a microwave and a fridge. It was not warm and inviting at all. Definitely wouldn’t stay more than one night.

Pier Blue Inn was close to funeral home, Catholic Church, and repast. Nice restaurants so close by! I’m glad I booked this place. Added a second night to avoid Friday night traffic back to our house in Rockland County NY.

The staff couldn’t have been nicer! Courteous and caring. The room was immaculate with all necessary amenities. Somewhat dated but not shabby. Very close to town. Parking was ample and right outside my door! I attended a concert at the Kate and did not want to drive an hour home late that evening, so this was perfect for me. Much more reasonable than the other places in the area. Depends on what you’re looking for. Won’t hesitate to come back again!

The room was very clean with soft towels. The sheets were clean but a bit rougher than I'm used to (I like silky sheets, not rough cotton) but the bed was comfortable and warm. The staff is very friendly too. A nice \"basic\" room that took care of our needs, didn't gross me out with smell or dirt and was located in a good area for food.

Need to improve pillows for comfort. Stacked my two and it wasn’t enough. The dark blue bed spreads were a turnoff and would have preferred white or light colored . The dark colored has the potential to mask so much !! The place seems to have good bones and an upgrade would go a long way to success.

The staff was wonderful. Despite having multiple issues that popped up entirely of my own error, the staff was amazingly polite and wonderful! They were incredibly helpful during my issues and were able to help ensure they were sorted.

There is ample parking in the lot surrounding the property, the room I was in had around 10 spaces within a few feet of the pathway.

I did see signs showing that the location was pet friendly, to include seeing a few patrons with dogs.

Overall the location was clean, seemed well put together, the rooms were delightful in their style and simplicity. Perfect for my travel needs.

Our room, #107, was in very poor condition. This is an old property in desperate need of renovation. The dampness and mold had my eyes watering. Every movement of the room above us could be felt and heard, and literally shook my bed in the night. The floor was so dirty it was sticky. The towels and tub had hair on them. Do not stay here.
