We received an email the previous day to say reception would be closed at our arrival time (3pm), giving us access instructions.
Not only was reception closed, but the whole place was deserted.
An honesty bar was available, but the restaurant was closed.
Obviously 3rd January is a quiet time of year, but several other guests did arrive. We didn't have the 19 Euro breakfast.
The room was quite small, but was newly decorated, with large TV, good WiFi and comfortable bed. A small bathroom with a shower was also new an modern. I'm sure the hotel has a completely different feel in the summer. It's a stunning building with lots of history.

We had a good time. We were a 20 minute drive from Heidelberg. The hotel is only a few minutes drive from grocery stores and restaurants located across the main road. The indoor pool was nice to use at the end of the day.

Our family had a wonderful stay at Leonardo Hotel Heidelberg-Walldorf! The property was spotless and well kept, and every staff member we met was friendly, helpful, and spoke English very well. Breakfast was excellent—fresh, varied, and a great start to the day.

We booked the family room with two floors and two restrooms, which was perfect for us and our two kids—so much space and super convenient. The area felt safe and pleasantly quiet, and it made an easy base for quick trips to nearby towns. Free parking was the cherry on top.

We’d happily stay again and highly recommend this hotel for families looking for comfort, cleanliness, and warm service.

Convenient location, short drive from Heidelburg. Rooms were noisy with the autobahn and boiling hot. The aircon doesn’t work. On a plus side there's a coffee machine in the room. Beds were comfortable.

I enjoyed our stay here very much! Convenient for us with a car to get to Heidelberg and the town of Waldorf. The outdoor pool was nice. We really enjoyed the area around the outside bar beside the pool even though it was closed due to rain. It was a lovely relaxing space to have a drink and watch the sky.The indoor pool was a lovely second! We never got to use the sauna with our busy schedule. The staff was super helpful, friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was incredible!
The only bad thing for us was there was not elevator access to our room. This made it difficult to get our luggage to the room and out of the room when it was time for check out. My mother was traveling with us a little older in years and the stairs are hard for her.
Staff offered to help us when we went to check out since they realized that we did not have a way to utilize the carts with no elevator.
The ice machine did not work so we had to get and request ice from the restaurant, which was far away from our room. It would have been nice to have a bucket available to have filled instead of a cup at a time. (This did not affect our stay or our experience just something to mention)
We would certainly stay again, but request a room that was more accessible.

Reason for staying? - SAP is just over the field

Sorry to say but the hotel and it's furniture and amenities are very dated. There was also a bit too much dust in my room in various places. I felt like in the hotel from \"The Shining\", especially in the corridors :)
Still, are you visiting SAP and just need place to sleep? It's ok.

Great place to get away from bicycling through the Kraichgau hills. We attended the region’s IRONMAN and therefore the spa facilities and breakfast provided were optimal conditions to prepare ourselves on the race. The scenery in the vicinity is quite ordinary, but nearby cities and monuments are worth seeing and enjoyable.

Hotel was very nice, but poor vegetarian choice in restaurant. The gemuse curry was Luke warm ….. so a disappointment. However the staff were very pleasant. Also the bar was closed off for some reason. Despite the food the hotel was very nice.

We wanted to see Heidleberg and found the Leonardo an easy place to find, park and relax in at the end of a hot day.

Although the hotel clearly has some age, it is clearly being kept up very clean and welcoming to its visitors. The room was very comfortable and the bed was perfect. The A/C cooled very well although at times it was a bit noisy. My biggest issue was the Wi-fi as it had a poor signal, but my room was very far away from the main building and that probably had much to do with the weak signal. The staff was very helpful and always had a great smile to share with its visitors. They clearly enjoy working there. All in all, I would recommend this hotel and certainly will use it again if I am in this area.

Nice enough hotel but location meant a car trip to do anything. That said, staff were very good and friendly and the beds were comfy. Not ever so \"up to date\" decor wise as it were, but worth the money paid. Perfectly acceptable in its price range.

While complaining about it 2 other guests were complaining about the same problem. Too many dogs in the dining room.

A nice hotel to stay in. The room was very spacious, I was impressed by the size of it. Having a small fridge in the room was also a bonus. We appreciated the free water, coffee/tea in the room. The outdoor and indoor pool were both very nice. We didn't eat at the hotel so I can't comment on that. The hotel is a little old-fashioned in it's styling, but that wasn't something that really bothered us. The nearby town is only just over 10mins walk away, and there are quite a few restaurants to choose from there. The surrounding area is also very pretty, I went out for a 10k run and really enjoyed running through fields and forests and by a small lake. My only complaint is that we stayed for 3 nights, and on both the second and third day our key cards had been de-activated at midday as if we were checking out that day so we had to go back to reception and the get the key cards activated again, which was a little bit annoying. But the hotel was very good value for money, so I can forgive this slight issue. We would stay here again if we are back in the area.

leonardo hotel was very classic. We stayed in the maisonette room, which my girls loved, because it was like a loft apartment. Breakfast was delicious as well. I liked that they had an almond milk option, because my 5 year old is allergic to all dairy. Most hotels o my offer cows milk. The staff was great and although it was a German holiday (everything was closed except a döner shop), the city of Walldorf is about 3 minutes away if you need to grab a few things from the store or catch a restaurant. If you like to hike, there are plenty of trails in the area as well. Picturesque town. Heidelberg about 15 minutes away.

Good value when travelling by car

Spacious rooms and free parking. Breakfast could be better as well as cleanliness in the rooms. However, convenient location on the Heidelberg edge, especially when travelling by car. The pool and sauna was good, minigym only for runners, no mass building machines.

From check in to check out we had a pleasant time. Check in was easy and fast, they have fruit water, candies and apples in the lobby. Our room, we had a suite, was big especially for Germany! My bed and the bathroom with the shower & tub were upstairs. There was a half bathroom downstairs. Our son slept on the fold out sofa. The room was clean and well kept. There were two things we didn't like. The first was: when the couch was out as a bed there wasn't enough chairs for us to sit in and there was no table. There is a small desk and a couple of end tables. The second was: we heard a thumping noise that kept happening till about 3 am. We didn't say anything to the staff, we just put on our noise machine and went to bed. We ate at the hotel restaurant and the food was good. Check out was easy and quick. We would stay here again!

The hotel is very convenient for SAP business trips. The staff are friendly and check-in was efficient. The restaurant, pool and facilities are nice. However, the rooms need to be renovated. Several times I've stayed here and felt that the bathroom was not cleaned properly, no toilet paper etc.

Nice Hotel near to city centre and SAP Offices

I stopped overnight during a trip to Italy to meet with colleagues. Unfortunately it was December and all the al fresco amenities were closed but I was able to enjoy the bar.
This hotel is conveniently located near SAP Offices, city enter and the motorway.
I will book again in my future stays in Walldorf.

Terrible, extremely understaffed.

Apparently there has been a change in mgmt a couple of months ago.

There were 4 front of house staff in total one evening. The wifi was very hard to maintain a signal on. Even in different locations of the hotel.

Took 30 min to get our order taken for the evening meal, then another 40 to actually get our food.

Fine for a short stay

I used this as a base for my recent visit to SAP headquarters, it's very close indeed which was ideal.

On arrival I found water, with compliments along with a couple of nice chocolates in the room, which is always a nice touch. The room was very spacious and the bed comfortable.

If there was a let down it was due to the lack of surrounding facilities. You can't walk to any restaurant near by, there is nothing around it. The food is good though, but you'd soon get bored of the same stuff.

Also the other letdown was that the water, chocolate and shower gels were not replaced after day one. That would have been nicer.

All minor details, I had a pleasant stay, the staff were very friendly indeed and I'd stay again.

The staff were very nice and very helpful. Unfortunately the room was extremely disappointing. We arrived late, after a long day of business and just wanted to get to the room and sleep. Leonardo Hotels are usually very nice and modern, but I think that only the rooms in the section closest to the lobby are modern (saw it when I walked passed the open doors when the housekeeping were inside). Our room, however, was a different story: The room had ladybugs inside, and I couldn't figure out why at first...but then I realised it was because the air conditioning did not work at all, and the room had NO VENTILATION whatsoever. So we had to open he window and curtain all night long. So of course, now I knew how the bugs got in. We had a pretty bad sleep that night before a long drive home, due to the outside noise and the sunlight.

It was wonderful, the meals were delicious but expensive. It is quiet, there is an indoor and outdoor pool. The whole staff is outstanding. I was having problems with my Apple and Marcel was extremely helpful to me several times, thank you. It is the topof my list of hotels.

Good hotel for SAP...but maybe not for sleep

Excellent location for SAP. About a 10-15 minute walk into the offices. I can't comment about the food but 20 euro for the breakfast is steep. Quality is OK.

What lets this hotel down is the quality of the pillows. I know this sounds a little daft but it crops up in other reviews and was a gripe of colleagues staying at the same hotel. They are just really, really poor. Offering no support at all. They're the type of pillows you try and fold in half.

The air conditioning was pretty ancient and ineffective. There are also radios in the room but that look a little like CB radio units you might find in Smoky and the Bandit.

The WiFi is horrific. You will barely get the login page.

Staff are very pleasant and the hotel is clean. It's just a little dated.

If there are no other choices...

This is the old Holiday Inn near SAP HQ in Walldorf. I didn’t stay here when it was the Holiday Inn, so don't know if it was better or worse.

You’ll need a car if staying here. Walking to or from Walldorf/SAP from this hotel would be quite difficult on foot and potentially dangerous unless you took a long detour.

On checking in the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. For some bizarre reason the escalator is on the other end of the hotel to the main entrance and reception, so if you have lots of luggage be prepared for a workout when you arrive and when you leave because there is no one there to help!

The room I was put in was in desperate need of being refurbished. It was like something from a bad 70s B-movie. The pictures on the website are misleading, my room DID NOT look like that.

My room smelled really bad and was too hot (even in mid November). The aircon unit which looked like it had been installed by a moron several decades ago didn't work but instead made a loud noise and half heartedly churned the already hot air around the room with all of the blowing power of an asthmatic ant after carrying some heavy shopping, so I opened the window, my room came with an uninterrupted view of the number 5 Autobahn so I had to decide between hot and smelly or cooler and noisy.

On a positive note, the food I had from room service was quite good

Hotel was good value when we found it! The Leonardo has two hotels - one in Heidelberg and one in Waldorf. After driving to the one in Heidelberg we were told that we were booked at nearby Waldorf. Unfortunately we were given wrong directions by the desk staff and took an hour to find it.

not as close to Speyer cathedral as Expedia write up would have you believe but it was easy to find, off the motorway and had a great restaurant and bar. If you want to be in a hotel where you can walk to the nearest shops and restaurants, this is not for you, but in every other way it was convenient and what we needed.

Unfortunately I was travelling in a very busy period. Mannheim was booked solid so I booked a hotel 20 minutes south. The hotel was easy to find and parking also easy. My room was a smokers room and no other was offered, the room and all its furnishings stank and the WiFi could not be found. The curtains were a little on the light side with no black outs. Good points: easy to find, good food, good service, comfy bed/pillows, comfy chair, every TV channel available for us foreigners!

Shocking to discover that there are still 4* hotels in the 21st century that charge for WiFi Internet access. Also I climbed into the shower in the morning to discover that the soap dispenser was empty. Otherwise, the breakfast is very good, the pool facilities are nice, free parking, room is big and relatively modern, and it's a stone's throw away from the SAP offices. As soon as they offer free (or at least affordable) Internet, I'll gladly stay there again.

If you have to stay near SAP headquarters this is basically your only choice. Price is reasonable but it is just a mediocre hotel. Not horrible but not great. Nothing around the vicinity. The key thing going for this hotel is just 5 minutes walk to SAP.

Nice place to stay after a long driving!

We stayed in this hotel with my husband in our way to and from The Hague - Milan. It was the perfect place to stay after 6 hours driving. For us it was just in the middle of our journey and right next to the highway, so it was perfect. The room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast and dinner were though very overpriced, but the food was nice. Internet prices are just crazy! If you are traveling, need to place to rest and just decide to eat somewhere else (and can live without internet for a night), then this is just the perfect hotel...I would not recommended for a visit to Heidelberg though, it is a bit to far for it.

Not bad with an internet deal and a short stay.

It was okay the sheets and towels were hard they could use fabric softener. The hall light was out in the room. The parking lot was iced over and they didn't have salt in the parking lot to help melt the snow or ice.

Convenient location

We stayed during a trip back to the UK from Austria. The hotel was very conveniently located, close to the motorway. The room and beds were very comfortable and the staff were friendly, cheerful and very helpful.The indoor pool was closed, but the outdoor one was open and most welcome for a swim late in the afternoon. We will definitely stay there again.

Good stay but obscenely priced internet and breakf

The hotel was overall clean and comfortable while being reasonably priced . Two of the three floors we undergoing major renovation but our room was unaffected. My only complaints are the Internet and breakfast. They require 17 euros for an Internet connection. I paid 26 euros because I connected 2 devices, absolutely obscene. Breakfast was vastly overpriced at 20 euros for a mediocre hotel breakfast.. If you don't need the Internet or breakfast the hotel is a fine place to stay. The neighboring town of Walldorf is not worth a stop in itself but is a decent place to walk around in the evening and have dinner and a drink. For runners/walkers there are decent road/trails behind the hotel in the cornfields.

Good family hotel

Family vacation of 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Location was close to the area we wanted to visit. Easy on and off. Staff was very pleasant. Restaurant/lounge was very good. Excellent hamburgers! Enjoyable stay overall.

Very nice hotel and staff was very friendly. Only issue is location. Convenient to SAP but a little far from Heidelberg. Not much around to do.

one annoying matter

The hotel in general was fine, which was expected given its price. I found it annoying however that Holiday Inn charges to use Internet. In this era of widespread availability of Internet service, corporate management at HI should enter the 21st century and make the decision to provide free Internet to customers.
