Let's be honest: No one books a Studio 6 expecting a five-star experience. And you won't get one at this Studio 6. Pretty much, you book a Studio 6 and cross your fingers, hoping you won't be sharing the bed with six-legged things and staring up at a blood-stained ceiling. And this Studio 6 delivered. No six-legged things. No blood stains. Just a place to lay your head for a night if you're looking for an affordable, no-frills place to stay.

The property is clean. It is a 2 star hotel and does a great job for that. The kitchen is nice to have and the room is just what we need for our one night stays while we visit our son at Stephen F Austin State University and it doesn't break the budget.

Upon arrival, a pest control company was on site. The desk clerk spoke with the exterminator and gave him keys, along with a list of rooms. The clerk mentioned to him that one room was bad. The clerk was nice and said the exterminator comes weekly, which I wasn’t sure if that was a good or bad thing.
After heading to my room, which was in another hall, it had the odor of marijuana, but not from recent smoke. The room was clean but the floor was coming loose, and it just looked old.
We left for the evening and returned around 10:30pm. After prepping for bed, we could easily hear every conversation on our hall, especially the people that were arguing in a different language (not sure which). Around 7:15am, we were awoken by a couple arguing in Spanish, which lasted at least 15-30 minutes. We quickly decided to get out of there. As we exited, we saw a police officer’s vehicle in the lot, which I surmise was because of the argument.

Pets were welcomed, rooms were clean, no breakfast! The lady at he desk when we arrived on March 20th was a delight! So personal and helpful. On Sunday morning, the coffee hot was empty before 9:30 and there were so many guests that never got any coffee. The receptionist could have cared less. She was too busy on her cell phone. Personally, I would have made sure there was coffee for everyone even if I needed to make another pot! 😢

We were grateful for an upgrade to a very large room. However, there were loud popping noises at about 4:00 am. We thought they were gunshots coming from the room next to us. The lady at the desk said they were probably kids with firecrackers. That didn’t seem likely. There was a woman in the lobby that had a torch lighter that she was flicking on and off, and giggling. The back door stayed ajar. Even though the hotel room was huge and clean, we will not stay at Studio 6 in Nocodoches again. We did not feel safe.

Parking was satisfactory but every entrance door on Level 1 from the outside had a rock jammed into the door jamb so that the doors were accessible by anyone from the street. NOT ACCEPTABLE when there are card scanners in place that should keep these entry doors secured.

The bathtub caulking and door frames had black mold and there was a stained / moldy ceiling tile over the shower. There was an access panel behind the toilet that was obviously just cut into the sheetrock with a saw and was only held 'closed' by the plastic waste can in the restroom.

The toilet refill / overflow mechanism ran LOUDLY every 15 or so minutes all night long, so that it was impossible to sleep for any length of time.

Facility and staff were good. The consistent problem is with the guests. Every time I stay there, some group arrives at 2am or 4am and seems to think they are the only ones at the motel. Speaking loudly in the halls and slamming doors, etc. This goes on for 30 to 45 minutes. I wish this motel had security that would tell these people to be quite as many guest are sleeping.

Motel 6 Studio Mildew/Moisture Concerns

Although it is evident that they have remodeled. New rooms, beds, decor, updated bathrooms... the obvious strong smell of dampness and mildew was overpowering. I don't think they removed the carpet or sheetrock down to the concrete or studs for renovations which is absolutely essential for an old Motel 6. Putting a pretty bandaid over the problem will not make it better. I chose to not stay the night because of the odor and stayed in town at the Fredonia Hotel which, built in 1954, has been renovated completely with absolutely no odor concerns as the renovations were done completely. It is imperative that moisture is removed from a motel/hotel to eliminate mold.

We were glad to have a place to stay that was half the price of the other hotels in town. And you get what you pay for. The room was clean, but smelled like cleaning chemicals. The hall and stairway leading to our room however were not well kept, with dirty carpet on the stairs. There were some very loud, rude guests in our hallway. They were reported to the front office who handled the situation. They were screaming, cursing, etc in the hallway near our room. We had a distinct mildew smell that took several hours to fade, despite the apparent cleanliness of the room. We almost asked for a new room, but decided it wasn't worth it. The bathroom sink wasn't draining well either, and for some reason, we started off with one fly buzzing around in the restroom, and then another joined it to annoy us while we we were in the restroom.
