This is our 2nd time staying at Refugio del Mar for short stays (4 nights) in Bucerias. Both times we stsyed.in one of the 2nd floor, 2 bedroom apartments called \"Eva\". The apt is reslly nice, has two balconies, very spacious with a nice full size kit hen and new appliances. Very clean, comfy and friendly staff. Will definitely come back.here next time!

Great location near the beach, restaurants and convenience stores. We had a studio that opened onto the shared pool, which was nice to have in June heat. Housekeeping staff did an excellent job. The only minor issues were a couple of wooden doors, one in the bathroom that kept swinging in the way and the other the door into the studio that didn’t seem to close securely. Checking in was a little confusing as there are three different buildings, but staff were helpful in guiding us down the street to our entrance.

Beautiful property! The pool area was like a secret garden and the rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. My only complaints were that our room was located across the street from a restaurant that was loud at night and that we were unable to relax at the pool for half of our stay since other guests reserved the lounge chairs for the whole day.

The 2 bedroom apartment we stayed at for 5 days was spacious with a big kitchen, fully equipped with a microwave, oven, coffee maker, dishes. It also had 2 large terraces for lounging and entertaining and a huge king sized bed in each bedroom with its own full shower and a washer/dryer. The Rufugio del Mar was a beautiful property. We stayed in building 2 which only had 7 units. They all had their own kitchen and bedroom/s. The staff were super friendly and the pool and gardens were immaculate. I would recommend staying on the second floor if possible as the lower units can be a little dark and do absorb a bit of noise from the above units. The location is 2 blocks from the beach and the property includes free beach chairs and umbrellas. They also provide free top of the line bikes. It wasn’t very busy when we were there so everything was readily available. Jorge, the owner is attentive and super helpful. We had an amazing stay.

The place is a small exquisite place that I really liked. Beach and eateries were close. Because I was injured and couldn’t walk upstairs I was very disappointed that the elevators were not working because I couldn’t enjoy my time the family on the roof jacuzzi or pool :(
Also, the place came equipped with plates, cups, utensils etc but were not supplied with soap/sponge to wash dishes or napkins. Some complimentary coffee/tea would have been much appreciated.
Other than this, we enjoyed our time in this beautiful place.

First time visiting Bucerias. Our stay was pleasant ant Casa Damian. All of their staff were attentive and kind. Various restaurants to choose from. Although we were told we would receive a 10% discount at Cafe de Bucerias, 5% was given. Beach is at a walking distance. We enjoyed watching the many iguanas that were lounging on a tree across the street from our room. Pool water was very warm.

We stayed in the Don Paulino 2 bedroom suite. Its a decent room although it is on the main ground flloor in one of the buildings. This area does not have its own pool so we had to walk to adjacent areas to enjoy pool. Room was clean and spacious. We did have some issues within the room itself. The room safe was not working. Be aware that the plumbing was installed backwards for your hot/cold water. We weren't left any cleaning supplies for dishes or soap for the dishwasher. There is no washer or dryer in suite. Another thing to mention is this room has no balcony to it. We were disappointed to find this out when we arrived.

It did have some good/bonus things to the complex though. Nice pool area, use of a bbq ( could have used an upgrade) , it appears that the building we stayed in was eventually getting an elevator installed ( started but on hold?) and a hot tub on the roof also there but not installed or running. This hotel does supply guests with golf carts to use( another serious upgrade needed. Several units not working). They supply you with beach chairs, umbrellas and bikes for guests to use which we did.

Overall its a decent place but does require some work to the aging amenities.

This property is highly recommended by our family and we absolutely loved our time there. Small and quaint property but large suites and lots of communal gathering places. We met a lot of travellers staying at the property and had some great conversations about where to go and what to do. We've been to Bucerias many times and this property stands out as one of the best. The food at the El Cafe Bucerias is excellent and the pricing is on point as well. The Japanese restaurant Mikoh is next door to the hotel and it was excellent as well. We travelled with our 12 yr old daughter and she enjoyed this property very much! Lastly, the complimentary golf cart use to get groceries or bring beach chairs and umbrellas down to the beach is a really nice touch. We also enjoyed the complimentary use of the bicycles.

Excellent linens in the bedrooms, in-suite laundry, full kitchen and lovely, large extended patio gives this property an A from us!

Hotel staff are very nice and helpful, they were always available to help when we had a question or needed a taxi. The hotel had everything we needed and was comfortable. There was alot of construction around the hotel so it was very noisy all of the time even at night. The hotel restaraunt was ok service was a bit slow and they even forgot to bring me my coffee. The neighborhood was very cool and the beach was walking distance. I love bucerias and would definately return to this hotel and recomend to anyone.

Mejor hotel boutique de Bucerias

Es un hotel muy acogedor, apesar de que nos tocó clima lluvioso disfrutamos de la alberca, sus instalaciones muy limpias y bien conservadas. Lo mejor es el personal del hotel, siempre dispuestos a ayudar con una excelente actitud. La comida en sus instalaciones está deliciosa, además todo muy cerca, la playa una cuadra caminando. Tienen carritos de golf,sombrillas para la playa y sillas sin cargo extra. Estuvimos muy agusto y definitivamente regresaremos en nuestras próximas vacaciones. Gracias por sus atenciones Refugio del mar.

Nice place, some problemitas

The grounds and rooms are immaculate. We started in 1 room but due to a heavy rainstorm and a leak, we were moved. The 1st room was a dream: roomy, beautiful, well furnished, quiet. The 2nd room was near the street, highway & pool which were so noisy at times that we had trouble sleeping some nights. The door knobs in both rooms were lose on the outside door. They never came & fixed them. My husband finally used a butter knife to tighten the screws. Other than that, they were quick to come if needed. The maids did a spectacular job but they would knock on the door to ask to clean. Even when my husband was still sleeping, they would ask if they could clean so they could get their work done. This happened more than a few times. I would prefer to have them only clean when I leave the sign on the door. It didn't feel like we had the privacy we needed in that area. The pool was clean & pleasant. The hotel is 3 blocks from the beach (about 1/4 mile). You are allowed use of golf carts to ride around on the cobblestone roads only. This was so helpful for exploring the quiet town or going to the supermarket for groceries. The only bottled water provided was a cooler on the main floor, shared by all. We were on the 2nd floor so this was not convenient. The kitchen had dishes, some utensils & frying pans. I ended up buying a saucepan. There were no mixing bowls, which made cooking challenging. Internet is not secure by reasonable standards. Nice stay overall.

The cafe downstairs is one of the best in the area. They have beach chairs and umbrellas for you to drive down to the beach a block away in a golf cart. The staff are so courteous and nice. Arnoldo saved our trip. My husband got sick and he drove him to a doctor. If Arnoldo is there he takes care of everything. Our air conditioner broke and he had technicians fix it in a couple hours. He did everything he could to make everything better. He literally saves the whole hotel and will keep customers coming back. A for Arnoldo.

Loved Refugio!!!

We stayed in Eli at Refugio for a week. The hotel is super clean and our stay was wonderful. The only thing I would wish for is better pillows. Bucerias is a cool little town and this place is a gem. I thought I would regret not being directly on the beach, but I didn’t. There are lots of great restaurants within walking distance.

Great place, good location, good value.

Okay the property is gorgeous. The rooms are stunning, well kept and super clean and the pool area is really beautiful. Also the location is great. You were not on the beach, but just a few short blocks. I would have given it a 5-star review all the way across except a few things. Although the room is lovely and comfortable with all the amenities, the pillows on the beds were the worst I have ever used. After the first night my husband and I had to go to the store and buy pillows so we could sleep. I feel that if you are going to have a 5-star hotel you need to have a comfortable bed. The only other thing, and this is not necessarily their fault, was the construction going on right across the street. It was super loud and dusty and made it a little unpleasant hanging out on our balcony. One night it even went on until 10:00 p.m. I only wished that they had warned us so maybe we could have booked a room on the other side of the building. Other than that, the staff is really nice and accommodating, the room services excellent and no other complaints. A word of advice... Bring your own pillow! Lol

Old style spartan rooms. Don’t expect much. Enclosed courtyard with pool. Well maintained, picturesque, comfortable . Good staff willing to help but you won’t be spoiled much.
Located in a local neighborhood close to beach.
Rare chance to experience the raw culture closeup without a big tourist crowd. Good food to be had at a variety of places.

This property is perfectly located in Bucerius. Walking distance to great restaurants, the beach, markets, and stores.
We had a Studio Suite in Blg. 3. Very large, comfortable bed. The only thing i would add is hooks in the bathroom. There was no place to hang towels, bathing suits, etc..

perfect vacation spot

We could not have had a lovelier stay.
Check in was a little slow but this is pretty normal in Mexico and we are used to it. Room was not ready which we expected ( we were early) so had our swimsuits handy and waited by the pool. Were told they let us know when the room was ready but never did. No worries, after a couple of hours at the pool we wandered up to the lobby and found our rom was ready.
A father and son started this company and you can see it is a hard working small family business.We were in a studio in building 3, only 2 years old.They name, not number, the rooms Ours was \"Huapango\"

The pool was right outside the door. There was a king size bed, 3/4 size fridge, microwave and 2 burner stove and coffee maker. No tea kettle for my tea but they brought one over when I asked. No soap or sponge for dishes but again brought over when asked. The room and bathroom were immaculate. There was a lot of attention to detail. Free golf cart use to go to supermarket for groceries. ( we ate breakfast in the room and packed sandwiches for the beach . We usually ate dinner out ) There were a few tupperware containers for our use. There was free use of beach chairs and umbrella.The beach is 2 short blocks away.

Staff knew English, were friendly/accommodating. One night I needed medicine and Jorge, the son, offered to drive me in his own car as he knew the pharmacist would not speak English. I was blown away by his kindness and consideration. We will definitely come back!!

Loved Refugio...wish we could've stayed more nights. Jorge welcomed us warmly and all the staff we interacted with were happy to see us.
I will 100% stay here again!

Refugio del Mar is FANTASTIC! Perfect location - close to the beach, central, quiet - couldn't ask for more! The rooms are beautiful, include everything you could possibly want, are very tastefully decorated, and super comfortable! Phenomenal amount of tropical plants everywhere in the property - so gorgeous!

The staff... wow! They are so gracious and work so hard! Any questions are answered immediately and with a big smile! A couple of times, we had questions about the TV, or the dishwasher, and an employee was there within minutes to show us what to do. Jorge especially was amazing! Always polite, professional, very friendly and with a large smile! He checked in with us many times to make sure all was well and that we were enjoying ourselves. We met many other guests during our stay and everyone seemed to feel the same way :)

I can't say enough - absolutely loved my stay at Refugio del Mar and would definitely stay there again! Already planning for 2020!

The two bedroom family suite we stayed in was very nice. It was updated and had nice amenities. Air-conditioning worked very well. It was on the second floor and there is no elevator. Nice view from the patio. Only complaint were constant barking dogs from a neighboring property. They would bark all hours of the night and made both nights very difficult to sleep. The barking dogs made our stay unpleasant and hope the hotel to do something about it. I did complain to the front desk person when checking out about the barking dogs

LOVE this place! Small and personable. Clean and comfortable. Location is so adorable and the restaurant and coffee shop are both delicious too! Golf carts quickly got us (3-4 blocks) to a quiet and calm beach with small waves and a large soft sandy beach. Just loved everything about this stay!

Really had a great experience at this hotel. You can see the beach from the hotel it is just steps away. They provide you with beach towels, umbrellas and chairs to use. Also, they let you borrow a golf cart for any trips that you may need to take nearby such as the grocery store. The food offered at the hotels cafe and restaurant was very delicious but is also located by many other small restaurants nearby. Felt very safe with the security offered and staff was super friendly.

We had the penthouse for a 2 night stay in Bucerias. Everything was excellent: good service, close to beach, friendly people, nice pools, free bicycles, golf carts, beach chairs and umbrellas, and towels to borrow for the day. We were eight travelers (four adults, four teenagers) and the penthouse had plenty of space for us. We loved the kitchen, outside terrace with bar and pool and all the other amenities. The value can't be beat!

Like many on here I have no hesitation in giving Refugio a fantastic review. It really offers great value for the amenities ity offers and the price. Beds are comfortable, rooms are very clean and modern. The food in the restaurant and cafe are very good and the service is very good as well. The pool area is private and exceptionally clean. I selected Refugio del Mar based on other reviews on the site, and we were not disappointed. It's a couple of short blocks from the ocean, which we preferred over the very large resorts that line the beach. It also consists of more than one building, each with a pool and terraces, so is smaller in scale and very peaceful. Warm and helpful staff, nice accommodations, and lovely places to sit or dip into the pool. I couldn't have asked for anything more.

Property was very clean & seen friendly cleaning crew daily on the grounds . A pool for each complex was awesome, in the 3 rd building our pool was 5 feet deep with stairs going into it, was great because a little to deep for children and nice and quiet relaxing area.
I absolutely love this place and would definitely stay and recommend this place. A easy 5 minute walk to the beach and lots of great restaurants around.
They give you beach bag with towels, beach chairs umbrellas to take to the beach. Plus Cruz around in a golf cart for 1 hour free time a day...
Rooms are fully equipped with full sized fridge freezer which I was surprised. Bbq area on veranda...

Loved the area, loved that they had golf carts to use to go cruising around and go to the grocery, the bikes were great to use too. Close to walk down to the kissing bridge and go across to hear the bands and music.
Staff was amazing, very friendly and helpful.
Beds were comfy, great to have a kitchen to use for breakfasts and snacks but we ate supper out with friends every night.
