I had friends visiting Morocco for the first time and we wanted them to experience an authentic Moroccan riad. After reading the stellar reviews from other guests, I booked our stay Dar Chams thinking we hit the jackpot. In my confirmation email from hotels.com I was told we would “pay at the property”. Once we arrived we were greeted by a welcoming hostess who took our information including my husband's ID. We were never asked to pay, so we assumed all was well. We did some touring and had a late dinner before coming back to the hotel around 1 am. Mind you, Tangiers is a night city.
Once the guard opened the door to the riad, he allowed me and my two American friends (all white) to enter without hesitation, but when he saw my Moroccan husband, he gave him a little push on the shoulder telling him he hadn't paid for this room. He insisted that the hostess took down our information and we all had a right to be at the hotel, but the guard still refused to let him enter threatening to call the police. I further insisted that if there was a problem with payment the guard should be talking directly to me. When we called the manager he gave a pretty empty apology making the excuse that, “many guests had tried to avoid paying their bills by jumping out the window\". I don't have space to go into the entire absurd story. In brief, my Moroccan husband was a victim of severe racism and did not receive the proper apology from the manager or guard who accosted him. Sadly, one star.

We had a wonderful stay at Dar Chams Tanja - the place was beautiful, the room comfortable, the staff wonderful and very helpful, especially Noura who helped us by organizing excursions and recommending places to visit / things to do / restaurants to eat at. The casbah and medina are right at the doorstep.

If you want to immerse yourself in culture than this is the hotel for you. However, it comes at a price: inconvenience and con artists .To truly enjoy this lovely hotel and its hospitality you should not book any tours or transportation before 10 am, as breakfast does not start until 8:30 and the gates leading into the Casbah do not open early, which means quite a very confusing hike in a hilly area to cabs. Because Morracans
stay up late the streets are noisey well past midnight, (we had a lively drummer under playing under our window) especially on Holy Days .

Our stay was amazing mostly because of how attentive Nora was from the beginning to the end of our stay. She organized everything for us from the time we arrived at the airport to the time we departed: taxi from airport, guide for a day with transportation, transportation to train station at the end. She was great!

The staff was wonderful and attentive. The restaurant was amazing, delicious food. The accommodations were fine. No a/c and no fans. The windows facing the street are noisy with the living going on below (to be expected) but I didn’t mind. It was all part of the experience. I lived every minute there 😍

AVOID THE MEDINA TOUR

They pressured us into taking the Medina tour. It was awful. The paid guide brought us to overpriced shops and told us it was a good deal. We later saw the same items at other shops for a fraction of the price.

This hotel does not have any elevators so you have to struggle with your bags on the narrow stairs.

Michelle and her staff are wonderful!! Dar Chams is beautiful and has an amazing location. It’s a very comfortable stay and top class service. I’d recommend to anyone in a heart beat. Be sure to coordinate with the property for taxi service upon arrival, we did not....everything was fine but was an unplanned adventure. The rooftop is stunning, they have a drink menu (including wine!) which we sipped in the evening on the roof and had a lovely breakfast in the morning. Michelle gave us many recommendations based on our travel needs. Wish we could have stayed longer.

What Expedia prices the property at is questionable. Expect to pay more. The rate is charged in Dirhams which are valued against the Euro. Here's the rub. The Dirham is valued higher in Morocco against the Euro. So you pay more. Unless the currency used for booking is stronger than the Euro.

Moreover, cash payment option in Dirhams was not offered at Dar Chams Tanja assuming you could legally bring enough into the country. The limit is 4000 Dirham per person.

Never to return to this Riad,, sgain!

Hotel or Riad was lovely. But situated in a dirty part of the Medina,, old town! Filthy outside! Was afraid to walk streets,,,locals pestered us and aggressively too!
Riad near Mosque,,,local prayer starts at 5 AM for thirty minutes!! Loud noise from this!!! Street urchins or children run the streets until 23.30pm screaming and keeping us awake! Lady owner unpleasant!! Her husband was very nice! Very difficult to find location even by taxi !!! No restaurant nearby,, except 2 very expensive ones! Would never visit again!!!

Excellent boutique hotel in the heart of the action in Tangier. The owners are very kind and quick to respond to any and all questions I had via email. The room was beautiful and spacious.The bathroom was clean, modern and the shower was perfect. We were lucky weather-wise and had cool nights and did not use the AC in the room, but if you need to use it I would recommend making sure it works during the daytime while the owners are there to help turn it on as we couldn't figure it out! But we really didn't need it at all so it was not a problem.
I stayed for 2 nights with my husband and 2 young daughters and we had a lovely time. The location couldn't have been more ideal for us, right at the top of the Medina and just steps from everything we wanted to see. The breakfast every morning on the rooftop was wonderful. We had zero issues with street noise disturbances even though our room was an exterior room.(We were given the Bedouina room) I highly recommend visiting the Hotel Nord Pinus rooftop at sunset for a cocktail from their bar.

Two days in Morocco

This hotel is a hidden gem. The decor is fabulous including original artwork. The rooms were very comfortable, well decorated and the bathroom was very nice. The breakfast was incredible. Several courses served on a terrace overlooking the old city and harbor area. Dominique, the owner, was a great help arranging a fabulous tour guide and a taxi to pick us up at the port.

I did not like the location of the property. It is listed as a hotel and not a guest house. It was nicely decorated and spacious. The proprietor was rude, curt and dismissive. I had no idea that the property was inaccessible to handicapped people. I would like to be reimbursed for the two nights I did not stay. Michelle refused. In that the property was inaccessible, and I had to relocate to another HOTEL, a fair resolution would be to refund me. Orbitz should review the file and dialogue between Michelle and I.

Dar Chams Tanja is a beautiful property inside the Medina. The hosts, Michèle & Dominique, are warm & hospitable one feels immediately at home upon entering.

The ladies who serve breakfast & clean the rooms greet guests with smiles. The rooms are cleaned everyday. Beds are very comfortable.

Breakfast is an excellent assortment of fruits, cakes, breads, cheese, jams and yogurt with good coffee. There is cooked to order eggs. A glass of freshly squeezed orange juice rounds out the breakfast offerings.

The driver & guide that they arranged for us were reasonable and good.

Last but not least, Khadija, in the front office, is always there to answer questions & take care of the guests.

Thank you for an excellent & memorable stay. We love our suite!

Extremely helpful and charming and smart the husband and wife team. Really the breakfast ladies smile so nicely and are dressed so well .

Very friendly calm people running an amazing place full of fresh flowers I slept well in a wonderful comfy bed - note if you arrive after 10pm you will get biscuits! the man said all restaurants closed by then so perhaps bring a sandwich or fruit .. though eating is not really permitted in the rooms .. I d stay again but would hope to use when the price is a bit lower. Thanks for great stay see you on 27th Dec!

If you are looking for an authentic experience in the old medina, this is it. It is a lovely hotel and wonderful staff. We would have enjoyed it more had we not had our two small children with us. It was difficult to naviagte our car getting there and is just not set up for small energectic children (no fault on their part). The manager was so wonderful in trying to help us. I'd certainly recommend for couples and older groups.

This quaint boutique hotel run by a French couple is an excellent place to stay in Tangier. Located in the heart of action, it's right in the middle of the Kasbah and the medina. The hotel is tastefully built and decorated with modern amenities and even little things well thought thru. The couple and their young manager Khadija, are friendly people who spend time welcoming you, offering mint tea and cookies, ensuring you have information about the close by area and places to visit. With just 7 rooms, they give personal attention to every guess in their hotel and ensure they are comfortable. The hotel lobbies are eclectic and decorated with local art . We hit bad weather one day and couldn't get out for an afternoon. I totally enjoyed hanging around in the hotel reading a book with mint tea and chatting up with the owners and staff. Would highly recommend staying here.

This hotel is absolutely wonderful. We were received by the owner and immediately felt welcomed into a charming and comfortable hotel. The room was much bigger than it looked in the pictures. The beds were really comfortable and the room was exceptionally clean. The WIFI was fast. Be sure to check out the roof top terrace. The breakfast offered fresh fruit, pastries, and eggs made to order. I had high expectations of this place based on the other reviews and it still exceeded them. I highly recommend this hotel without reservation.

A gem in Tangier

We stayed two nights in this lovely boutique hotel in the Kasbah in Tangier. The roof deck has amazing views of the medina and the Straits of Gibraltar, the rooms are decorated with impeccable taste and an artistic eye for detail, but the highlight of the place is the staff. Khadijah is a fountain of hospitality and a wealth of information. Dominic was enthusiastic, helpful, and welcoming. The food was amazing. Our stay at Das Chams is one of the big reasons we would like to go back to Morocco.

Perfection in every way

Kinds, attentive staff led by a manager who gently demands perfection. Our room and bathroom were large and tastefully decorated with fine linen and the most comfortable bed. Great location close to good dining and cafes. An oasis of beauty amdist the bustle of the Médina. A pleasant fifteen minute walk to the beach. Would not change a thing and would definitely stay there again We miss it already.

Dar Chams Tanja provides a wonderful hotel experience—- the beautiful design of the entire place, the lovely interior decoration, and the friendly, well trained staff. It made for a singularly enjoyable stay. Everyone seemed to care that we were happy with our accommodations, from the owner Dominic, to the manager Khadijah, and on down the line. Really thoughtfully put together hotel. Our room was large with windows that looked into the streets of the Medina. Breakfast on the terrace offered a spectacular view of the entire town. Hadisia (sorry about the spelling), and all of the staff were superb, helpfully and friendly. They have a great of pride in their hotel and it shows.

Khadija meet us at the door and gave us mint tea and cookies while she explained the hotel and the city. She provided us with restaurant suggestions and suggestions for what to see in the city. The staff was amazing and Khadija was the most amazing hotel receptionist I have ever met. The customer service was amazing. The hotel is very beautiful, it is very much located in the medina.

The Dar Chams Tanja is by far one of the most well appointed hotels I've stayed in. The staff were personable, helpful and professional. The rooms are decorated exquisitely, with every comfort having been well thought of. The bed sheets, pillows, towels are all of excellent quality and comfort.

The breakfast was delicious, with several home made loaves and fresh fruit.

I can't recommend this hotel enough!

The hotel was charming and full of character. Dominic the host was attentive as were his staff. The concierge had to be summoned by my partner to enable the air conditioning at 11:30pm it should have been easier to enable, the tv system also did not function but we did not report it. Access from taxi drop of to entrance needs a better protocol to ease luggage transfer. Otherwise great location at Kasbah, breakfast was outstanding on the terrace with outstanding views and close to Medina. Would definitely stay again.

This small, 8 room guest house is beautiful and very well run. Our room was large, comfortable and uniquely appointed. The bathroom and shower were also very nice. Our favorite feature was the rooftop terrace where we enjoyed breakfast in the morning and relaxing under the stars in the evening. Michele and Dominique are excellent hosts and Michele provided helpful guidance on restaurants, sights to see and how to navigate. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Best Hotel on our Spanish Holiday!

We arrived from the Tarifa Ferry around 10:00 AM local time, not sure if we were to early for our room. We were greeted by Michelle with a welcoming smile, into her fabulous Hotel. Every room is beautiful and we were upgraded to a wonderful suite! Everything about this Hotel is 5 star! Michelle and her husband were great in helping with finding restaurants and booking tours. This small boutique hotel is located in the midst of the Medina & is therefore a bit tricky to find, but staying there is a wonderful experience. The owner/hostess is a charming Frenchwoman (her co-owner husband was out of town during our stay), & the hotel is a reflection of their impeccable taste. The modern yet classic decor, the high-end quality of the rooms & furnishings. the quietly efficient staff, & the personal service are all immaculate. This place is amazing. Dominique and Michelle have built and run an incredible abode. From the sumptuous breakfasts to the guide book of Tangier they provide on check in all the details are taken care of. The house as a whole is beautifully appointed, the rooms are luxurious and the terrace gives you panoramic views of Tangiers. It's an effort to leave the Dar. I really can't recommend this place highly enough, easily the best place we stayed in Morocco. Our hosts were accommodating and nothing was too much trouble, they have infused the Dar Chams with a beautiful relaxed atmosphere. Just wonderful.

Treasure in Tangier!

A real gem of a boutique hotel situated just beside the Kasbah and Medina. A modernised traditional Moroccan town house with beautifully designed rooms all superbly appointed. Hosts Michele and Dominique were warm and welcoming and happily sorted dining reservations and a guide for us.
The fabulous roof top terrace gives best views of Tangier and memorable breakfasts!

The hotel is in very unsafe area. The parking is too far and streets is very narrow. My room was in the second floor . Stair is very narrow and I had to carry my bag as no elevator. Price is consider highly if u compete with other real 5 stars hotels. Even I refused to check in as I had a heavy bag and could'not carry it for the distance between the park and the hotel plus I felt unsecured. The insist to charge me with the full reservation period and the owner reject my request to charge just one night. It is not a hotel it is like best house

Beautiful hotel/B&B overlooking Tangier's bay.

We arrived In Tangier after a 6 hour long train journey from Fes. The cab ride from the Tangier Ville station is very quick and we arrived soon after 2pm, very hungry. Unfortunately, our room was not ready. Though my French is not very good, it seemed as though they might not have been expecting us because they had sent a direct e-mail to us requesting a card number because my card number had changed. (Expedia should have a way to deal with this....) I had not responded because my spam filter had placed it in my spam folder. In any case, after getting into the room, things went more smoothly. The room and its view were very beautiful. The breakfast on the terrace was a highlight of our trip. The location is excellent, next to the Casbah, next to the median, and high above the port.

Perfection in Tangier

Dominic and Michelle were amazing hosts! They have created a wonderful retreat in the center of Tangier's old medina. Be sure to take a taxi to get to the hotel. If you walk from the port, it is all uphill with many \"guides\" insisting on showing you the way.

Although their English was limited, the hosts were fabulous and helped find interesting sites and arranged for a driver to take me on a private tour. Breakfasts were delicious and the staff was attentive. Would highly recommend.

Beautiful renovation in the Kasbah

The owners, Michele and Dominique went all the way to make an excellent impression and welcome.
We were greeted with mint tea and Michele reviewed our tour options in the old city, arranged Youssef, an excellent guide for us and gave us restaurant recommendations for the old city. She also graciously upgraded our room at no extra charge.
The hotel comprises two old houses very cleverly renovated to provide a modern, elegant setting in the heart of the old Kasbah. The views from the two rooftop terraces are 360 degree and delightful,
Breakfast is outstanding, with home-made pastries and breads, local fruits and egg dishes if desired. Hotel staff, Aiisha,are wonderfully courteous and helpful, and we felt right at home. Local artists work decorate the walls, and the atmosphere was delightfully Moroccan.
Finally, after enjoying our stay immensely including all the recommendations for sights and restaurants, we left by ferry to Tarifa . I was paged onboard ship, and Dominque the owner had come down to the port in person to return a cellphone I had left in the room. Truly superior service, so, many thanks to Dominque and Michele for a lovely stay which made us feel at home.
We would love to return one day to such hospitality.

A Gem in Tangier

From the moment we stepped in we felt welcomed by Michele and Dominic. We felt like we got a wonderful introduction to Tangier and Morocco. They spent time acquainting us with the hotel, the area and suggested a wonderful place for dinner, Le Nabab that was just a short walk away. Michele arranged for a driver to meet us at the Ferry and helped us with a tour guide. The rooms are beyond description. You have to see them to believe them. The utmost of care and love was put into each of them. We were treated to mint tea and cookies upon arrival and the morning breakfast on the rooftop was the best. Thank you for a \"once in a lifetime experience\"

The proprietors, Michelle and Dominic are very accommodating and kind. Immediately welcomed us with tea and cookies then sat down and had a chat with us about our travels. THE Place to stay in Tangiers!

5 Star stay. Michelle arranged a driver to meet us at the Tangiers Med Port for a full day tour, top notch. Arrival, our luggage was in our room while we enjoyed some Moroccan mint tea, she and her husband could not have been more gracious hosts. We walked through the medina and kasbah, not recommended if solo, do NOT let any of the local boys help you with anything, they will just try to scam you for money. The rooms were lovely, every 5 star amenity, and we enjoyed the rooftop terrace with some good French wine that evening, and the next morning the most delightful 3 course breakfast with crisp white linens and all the trimmings. It was better than any of the AC hotels we stayed at during our two weeks in Spain! Michelle is the owner, concierge, and most wonderful host, efficiently answering emails and telephone calls to update our arrival due to the closing of the Tarifa Port due to high winds. She was a lifeline and again the perfect hostess. Most highly recommended!

Best little Hotel in Tangier

We love this wonderful charming Hotel! The couple who run own/run it are delightful and great hosts. They were helpful with all our requests and plans. Everyone knows them. They have a wonderful roof top deck with great views of Tangier. Will stay here again! The hotel is located in the older part of the city near all the action and is part of the neighborhood. They also emailed me as soon as I booked and said they would arrange a taxi from the ferry. It was very nice to have the cab waiting for us with a sign with our name. A little about the hotel - The rooms are comfortable. The hosts have thought of everything, slippers, robes and wonderful linens. Truly well appointed rooms. The breakfast was delightful and abundant. No one will leave in the morning hungry.

Amazing hotel- feels like a palace!

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff were very attentive and friendly and made sure that we were happy with our stay. The location was right in the heart of the medina. The rooms and common areas are exceptional- this was by far the best hotel my wife and I have ever stayed in! The complimentary breakfast was delicious and plentiful. You really do feel like a king staying at the Dar Chams Tanja!

Like staying with extended family

Upon our arrival, we were greeted by a taxi at the ferry arranged by the hotel which gave us a brief tour of the city on the way to the hotel. He then walked us from taxi to the door (all for about 8 euro including tip). Upon entering the hotel, we were sat down with the lovely owners and served mint tea and cookies. We talked about what we would like to do during the trip and they gave us a rundown of the city and some recommendations. We then had a walking tour arranged by the hotel where we were given a 3 hour historical tour including a few meusems and shops that we would have never found otherwise.
The breakfast is amazing - a full spread with several courses - fresh fruit, juices, coffee, baked goods, tea and really whatever we needed. The staff are kind. The accomodations are brilliant - comfortable beds, big bathroom, great shower and ceiling speakers that have a wall control that plays all kinds of music. The wifi is good.
The view from the rooftop is insane. Both days we were there we had wine and beer while lounging on chairs. The salons are amazing - the entire hotel is extremely well appointed. It is more like staying at someone's home. I really cannot recommend this place enough.
Oh, and it was my friends birthday and she was given a gift bag with Morroccan delicacies. One of the best holiday experiences I have ever had.

Top notch accommodations-you couldn't want more

An excellent stay at an excellent hotel. They made me feel like the Queen I am. Rose petals spread on the bathroom countertop, linens were Crisp white the pillow cases embroidered with the hotel name. The Owners and Staff really took care of me. I wish I knew how nice the hotel would be I would have made arrangements to take advantage of all they offered! I will definitely plan to come back.

Good Times in Tangier

Michele and her husband were wonderful hosts, recommending excellent restaurants, and making me gluten free french bread to enjoy with the delicious breakfast. We enjoyed mint tea on the beautiful rooftop terrace with excellent views of the city and the bay.

Perfect!

Excellent. The owners where friendly and extremely resourceful. Each room was unique and well cared for. Slippers, robes, heated towel rack - what more could you ask for. The morning breakfast was always very filling and lovely. The owners helped coordinate walking and driving tours of Tanger as well as gave us good tips on shopping. One of the best hotel/ bed and breakfast experiences I have ever had. And be sure to check out the amazing view from the terrace. You can see the Mediterranean and Spain.

Beautiful boutique Hotel on the edge of the Medina

We stayed overnight after coming over from Spain on the ferry. Michelle arranged for a driver to pick us up at the port and we used the same driver, Amed, for an afternoon tour on our second day, after which he dropped us off for our return ferry. Michelle was so helpful in every way, and nothing was too much trouble.
