The rooms were nice and it’s a nice hotel, but the pools were shut off for the season and the price didn’t reflect that.
Do not eat at the restaurant in the hotel. The food was terrible. Possibly the worst food we’ve had in years ….or ever.

4/5 is fair. We’ve stayed here a few times before so we knew what to expect. It’s not 5* but that’s fine and it’s not advertised as such. Overall, a pleasant stay and we would stay again. Unfortunately had to change room around midnight on the first night as air conditioning didn’t work in addition to the ceiling fan - this was not ideal, but I guess it happens. Definite improvement area is better provision for gluten free guests at breakfast - this was sub par for a 4* hotel - need to do better here

Booked 2 rooms close together. They did not accomodate.
Air-conditioning in our room did not work. Neither did the phone so had to keep going downstairs to tell them AC broken. Took technician 3 times to get it going and then it was stopped at 21 degrees but the other room had no such limit. Manager refused to speak to us or address concerns. Food and dining staff excellent. Room fine and quiet except for AC.

I really liked the decor of this hotel. It was very zen with interesting art, light fixtures and wall treatments made of natural materials. The front desk staff were friendly and cheerful. The restaurant was good for breakfast but not for dinner. One day we had to leave before breakfast and they were nice enough to pack a picnic breakfast for us, but when we opened them it was ham sandwich despite requesting vegetarian. This hotel is on the main road with lots of stores and restaurants. It's about a 15 min walk to the port our the beach. The outdoor space with the pool has very beautiful gardens and the bar opens up to it. There is an indoor pool and spa with a charge which we did not have time to use.

Reception could improve

We had a great short stay. The reception staff were not that good at English and at first they could not find our reservation. Then they thought it was for only one person. The keys to the rooms did not work several times and they tried billing us for 2 parking even though we only listed 1 plate.
Maybe she was new, and everything ended ok but they could improve in this area. Breakfast buffet was wonderful and bed amazing.

Wonderful modern new property. Everything was great. We arrived in a rain storm so we did not take advantage of the pool and gorgeous grounds.
Only suggestion was the tv would not hold a channel and volume control was messed as well. They tried to fit it to no avai.

Not the right place for us

This location was quite misleading from the Spa Photos and Literature that showed a Sauna that didn't exist to the confusion around half board plus the roof top pool that wasn't open. Lots of false advertising here. Were looking for a relaxing Spa weekend and it short we left with out what thought we were paying for!! Hotels.com you should change your literature so there is no confusion on whether or not meals are included .

We had an excellent two night stay in this hotel, using it as a base for a day trip to Tangier. It was about a 20-25 minutes walk to the ferry terminal. Staff were friendly, food was good, easy street parking. Hotel room was modern and spacious.

Beautiful hotel close to the water; lovely pool; very convenient to the port as we took a 9 am ferry to Morocco; and the gentlemen at the front were fabulous - friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. Though there is no parking on-sight, we had no problem finding a space almost right in front of it. Wish we could have stayed here longer!

Relaxing recharge stay

We had a great stay in Tarifa at Hotel Lances. It is at the edge of town with a twenty minute walk to the historic district and two block walk to the beach. We found the location excellent for a restful day mid trip and a perfect jump off point to Tangier for a quick couple of days. They even stored our luggage so we could travel light. The staff were excellent.

A lovely hotel to come back to after spending the day exploring the area; we had a car & although the car park was full we always found a spot nearby. It’s about a 20 minute walk into the centre which suited us, slightly less to the nearest beach, Los Lances. The rooftop pool is a great place for sundowners & watching the sunset. Great breakfast too. We wished we had stayed longer & would definitely return

This was my 4th time stay at this hotel and I have always been very pleased before. However this time I got very disappointed. The service in the restaurant and bar was really bad and the half board evening meal was hardly eatable. Sooo bad like in s cheap bar not a 4 star hotel. Also breakfast has been changed. No yoghurts any longer?? No fresh vegetables. Only 2 kinds of juice (no Apple, no tomato, no pineapple juices???j I informed the receptionist but they just said sorry.
This was definatly the last visit and from now on I will not rekommend this hotel to my friends any longer. There are so many other hotels to choose from for much better price, with much bettet quality food and better service.
So sorry but no thanks.
Did the management change perhaps?

Attractive new hotel. Really nice and helpful staff. Very good breakfast. Even packed us a breakfast because we were leaving before breakfast was served.
However, there was a glass wall between the shower and the sleeping area. There was a curtain but you could see everything going on in the shower. I did NOT want to see my traveling companion in the shower and she did NOT want to be seen. Found out after the fact that not all rooms are built this way. ICK!
The man in the balcony next to us smoked constantly so we could not open our door to enjoy fresh air. Instead we received a constant stream of smoke.
Also the walls are very, very thing. I could hear every bodily noise from the next room AND the room above us. Conversations were clear and distinct between walls.
No privacy.

Driving holiday around southern Spain, this hotel - The Lances - continues to provide a haven in which to rest recharge and revive self in surroundings that never fail to please. The hotel was lovely and clean however there were no spoons in the room to even have a cup of tea or coffee, the hotel was empty pretty much the whole time we were there despite this, the reception staff made a fuss over whether we could have an extended checkout for which they charged us 30 euros eventually confirming on the morning of the day we were leaving. The rooms indicated in the pictures were not the room we were allocated, again this wouldn't have been such a big deal had the hotel been full as we did book the cheapest available room, but the hotel was pretty empty so they could of given us a better room, especially when we inquired. The staff in the kitchen were very friendly and helpful despite not speaking a lot of English they gave us spoons, glasses and ice when requested. The was a constant hammering noise which could be heard in our room during the lunchtime period on 2 of the 5 days we stayed not sure if they were repairing something in the rooms on the floors above. We didn't complain as by then it was our last few days and we couldn't be bothered to move all of our stuff. The photos of being able to see the sea is outdated as you cannot see the sea from the hotel at all there are buildings on both side and a work site to the right.

Great property. It’s not in the center of popular area of the city but it’s great other than that. The taxi fair to the center of town is about 5-6 euros. If you walk, it’s about 20 minutesZ. It has a beautiful pool and hot tub and is within 10 minutes to the beach walking. We did have an issue with the shower flooding the bathroom because of poor drainage and we were given another room right away. The breakfast was great! Everything from omelets to order, pancakes, fresh orange juice and the typical spanish breakfast fare. All in all it’s a great place to stay.

New and beautiful hotel... poorly built

What it potentially could be a great hotel, it’s just a nice one. Only few months after the opening, anyone can see it was built using cheap materials or not well supervised after . This will make the hotel to age extremely fast: tap in the bathroom was broken, magnifying mirror arm was loose, bathroom door got sometimes stuck, balcony door didn’t close properly, the handrail in the swimming pool was broken, the back door by the swimming pool makes annoying noises and does not have any handle so many times it stays open if you don’t really take a second to pull it back and lock it, the sliding door at the main entrance opens on an area where people could be standing... I would say it could have been designed in a better way, built in a better way, and the result would have been much better.
Other than that: service was great and attentive at front desk, easy parking around (the area is residential and currently in development), and not far from city center (10-15min walk) and close to Lances beach.

Will not return - poor service, too expensive

This is the third time that I have been here and although I have enjoyed staying there previously it was not up to par this time. They advertise 3 pools but the pool in the lower level is no longer available anytime but now has limited hours. We could not access it in the 3 days we were there. The infinity pool, which is advertised to be a highlight, is now owned by a different company and only available from 5-10 pm. However, the main pool is quite nice and we definitely enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the service was subpar as we called several times to the front desk and nobody answered and also we spilled some juice on the bed sheet and the cleaning staff did not replace the sheet but instead tried to hide the large stain under a blanket. The breakfast is good, it's nice to have the option order a fresh omelette, except when we asked for a fresh cafe con leche from a real espresso machine that they used throughout the rest of the day, we were told it was unavailable to guests who purchased the breakfast and we were supposed to be happy with the instant coffee from the Nestle Cafe machine. Maybe I would feel differently had I not stayed here in the past but the drop in service and attention to detail ensures that I will never stay here again.

The A/C in the room stopped every 10 minutes. We reported the problem right way, was told no fix since it was late at night and maintenance had gone home. The hotel was fully booked and did not have another room. All they offered us was; Sorry.
Next night same issue, this time maintenance attempted to fixit during the day, but it did not work.

Our room was right above the restaurant. They play music from early AM to late at night. Plus the smell from the kitchen was constantly “piping” into our room, as if our bed was right in the kitchen.

We let our feeling known to the reception, but they were helpless or indifferent. This was one of our worst hotel experiences ever.

Highly recommend!

I loved this hotel! Just a block away from the beach and a 15 minute walk to the port and the old part of the city. Very friendly welcome from Baeta (sp?) when we arrived. Our room had a very nice sea view and we saw the sunset at night. Beautiful spacious clean! Like others, don't understand the see-thru shower, but water pressure and cleanliness of it was great. Plus, I couldn't believe the reasonable rate for a room with an amazing buffet breakfast! Highly recommend!

The hotel Tarifa lances, as far as we can tell, is the only hotel I feel is worth considering. Accommodations were comfortable, amenities were ample, parking was easy for our tour de force of Southern Spain. I admit that we didn’t spend much time at the hotel other than an overnight stay before our trip into Tangiers. Everything about it is impeccable.

The property seemed new, the constant howling wind and very loud slamming of doors made for a terrible sleep. The restaurant was closed for the season.

Room was clean, spacious, and modern. Breakfast was good with plenty of variety. Since I visited off-season, there was plenty of free street parking available.
