Our room type was advertised with a balcony, our room just had a window with a wall directly in front with a piece of artificial grass covered in cigarette ends.

The room had two single wobbly beds with hard, thin mattresses. The wooden headboards weren’t fixed to the wall, just wobbling about with the beds.

The room cooling system did not work, only giving heat on the cool setting. The room was uncomfortably warm and the window couldn’t be opened due to mosquitos at the window.

The breakfast was good, after very little sleep.

The room was nice, definitely an older hotel, but kept up nice.
The breakfast layout was really poor. One coffee machine and water machine side by side. People were lined up constantly and created traffic jams and ruined the flow of the buffet. This is the 2nd time I stayed at this hotel, it’s sad to see the same layout. Many tables were unable to get drinks because of it. We were unable to get coffee one morning because of the people jam near the machines.
Set out premade coffee in carafes or something.

I stayed in Algeciras as a base for visiting Gibraltar. (Algeciras is not a destination I would otherwise have visited.) I obtained my room at this historic 4* hotel, set in its own parkland, at an unbelievably reasonable rate, cheaper than other 1* and 2* hotels in other cities in Andalusia, with the excellent breakfast included in the price. An equivalent hotel in Gibraltar itself would be three times the cost, so would recommend visitors wishing to see Gibraltar to stay here. An easy walk to the bus station where a local bus runs regularly to the border, taking around 40 minutes. Did not use the indoor or outdoor swimming pools. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and spacious, with the furniture giving it a period feel. Unfortunately, when I tried to hang my jacket in the wardrobe, the whole rail collapsed. The hangars were unable to take my jacket's weight. I had single occupancy of a twin room. There was no seat at the desk, with one easy chair the other side of the room. These two small problems are the only things needing improvement. Would stay again, as Algeciras is also a good base for visiting Tarifa.

We went for evening buffet 18 euros each with large selection of food good breakfast. I stayed here ten years ago was good so I came back but I do think the rooms are looking tired would benefit from being modernised but I suppose hotel this size would cost a lot to do and long time to get money back . Great parking for cars and motorcycles aswell .

Dull and run-down.
The breakfast is very good. The rest is mediocre for the price.
It must have been a grand hotel at one time, but the lack of maintenance and modernization is embarrassing. Our experience: 1) The air conditioner was leaking water, so we had to use towels to contain it and prevent it from spreading throughout the room. We reported it, and maintenance came, but the problem was resolved. 2) It seems that the custom is to charge for the stay at check-in, and since the receptionist forgot to do so, they had no better idea than to disable our access to the room, which we discovered when we returned after midnight. 3) The furniture in the room was shabby. When I opened the closet,
I was left holding the handle. 4) The terrace was very dirty, and on the second day,
the chairs disappeared from it (?). 5) The friendliness of the staff was uneven: Some deserve a 10, others a 0. 6) The furniture in the lobby and common areas was disgusting, with all the stained upholstery.
I would definitely NOT stay here again.

We had to switch rooms as first one was way out by the pool and derelict fountain that was empty. First room had hair on walls in bathroom and broken tile. Desk was good and found another room for us but initial check we found desk person was rude. Property was at one time incredible but lack of maintenance and upkeep shows. Not sure if any other hotels in area would be any different as city seems pretty depressed with lots of closed shops

Lovely hotel surrounded by a nice garden. Many seating areas to relax and have a drink, chat or play a game. (Early) check in was easy. Breakfast buffet was well stocked with many choices.
Initially we got a key to a standard (poolside) room which was outdated. Highly recommend upgrading as our main building room was very nice. Personally I liked the historical look of the hotel with marble stairs, wooden floors and wrought iron.

Short one night stay before Ferry

One night stay before catching the Ceuta ferry. What a fantastic classic hotel, I was overwhelmed by the grand old building and the lovely interiors. Fire lit in the fireplace and a library ! Yes a library stocked with many books! Perhaps a little tired but packed with real charm, I really really enjoyed my stay here and will return.

Its an older resort like experience from another time. As a side bar, the bathroom was spacious even though it needed a new shower head. It was fixed promptly. Must be reminded that the room temps are different than other part of the world during winter months. Friendly staff well maintained. Food was uninspired but for those who love the glorious hotels of yesterday

Lovely character hotel with the odd flaw

My 4th stay and possibly the best room so far with port and sea view. Very irritating doors banging day and night from other rooms. I suspect this was due to failing pneumatic door stays although some of the banging was purely from inconsiderate guests. Also sad to note That San Miguel beer was the only beer on tap. Must be the worst beer going. I understand this is because of the negotiated contract with drink suppliers. CruzCampo Special or something similar would be much better.

Comfortable but could be improved.

The hotel was pleasant and rooms were comfortable. however doors are very noisy when people slam them so sleep affected, And lots of banging about from people in room above really echoes. Could even here them coughing loudly early in the morning. Info on website said executive rooms had bathrobes but they don't. There is an extra charge for using the room safe whilst these usually tend to be free in most hotels nowadays.

Beautiful Hotel .Charming, elegant, sophisticated.

This is a beautiful hotel, very elegant and wonderfully maintained.
We had a large triple room, with very comfortable beds and pillows. It had a separate bathroom and separate toilet , and was spacious and spotlessly clean.

The interior furnishings , and fixtures are exquisitite and the hotel has an atmosphere of elegance and grace.

The outdoor patio area is beautiful and the swimming pool also. The staff are professional and attentive . I highly recommend this hotel which is perfectly located near the port of Algeciras .

The hotel is a grand, but older property with nice grounds, plenty of parking, a restaurant, a bar and a couple of pools. I'm sure that there are even more amenities that we didn't run across.

The staff, on the other hand, rule it out for return visits for us. Several things that were implied (walk-in showers) or promised ( bathrobes and free breakfast) for \"executive\" rooms were not provided, under the excuse that it was a mistake on their website. They would, of course, speak to their offices, but it would be tough luck for us.The showers were understandable, as only certain rooms had them, but for the cost of loaning my wife a bathrobe for two days, and giving us the breakfasts that their own website promises, they've bought our recommendation that others look elsewhere.

For the cost, it is a good hotel.

This was a last minute booking after plans were changed and we needed a hotel closer to Tarifa. It is an older hotel but maintained. There is parking but they do charge which seems silly since they own the property where you park. The rooms were dated. There was only a food buffet available for 18 euros - options were many and actually food pretty good. The only negative, which is not the fault of the hotel, they had a bus load of young students staying and they decided to have a party two doors down until 2 am. I tried to reach the front to complain but did not get an answer. It was louder because we had our doors open to patio because the air was not working correctly - closed door and put on a sound machine to block the noise! Also it is an easy drive over to Gilbraltar!

This is NOT a non-smoking hotel. There are non smoking signs throughout the property, but this is not enforced at all. I woke up to the stench of cigarette smoke every morning of my stay. Also, note that the property is directly in front of the Port of Algeciras, so if you don’t enjoy the strong scent of petroleum wafting through the lobby, or on the dining patio with your meal then this is not the hotel for you. The rooms are beyond outdated. They stink of mold and the furniture is nothing short of decaying. Service is also terrible. This hotel promotes itself as oozing old world charm, but it is all minus the charm. Also, there are no elevators so enjoy hauling your luggage around.

Marked down on service as a bit intrusive whilst eating breakfast hovering to remove plates as soon as finished eating. Asked for a teaspoon and unable to provide, however the bar staff were happy to accommodate the request. The bar was open until midnight (previous years struggled to get a drink at 23:30 onwards). Mentioned that the times stated using the QR code did not match the opening hours of the restaurant, reception staff helpful and assured this would be addressed. We were offered both indoor and outdoor pool but not given the code for outdoor pool, suggest this is on the Wi-Fi details given on check in. Room ready early. No problem with cashless as we prefer this but contradicts the deposit for the pool towel.

Hotel is old building but maintained well.
Room we stayed was far from main building and was very old room. Inside was clean.
Bed is not comfortable. Double bed is putting two bed. It was not comfortable at all. Restaurants and marts were at a distance and was inconvenient. However, swimming pool was a big plus for our family since we just wanted to relax at the hotel and our grandkids loved the swimming pool.

The exterior of this property along with the grounds make it appear to be quite amazing. The current online photos don’t show the condition of the interior which is very disappointing. The carpet is an absolute disaster! It resembles tattered and thread barren indoor/outdoor carpet from 40 years ago. The stains, dirt and dust make it feel as though you’ve arrived at a 1 star hotel, not one with a 4 star rating. Very disappointing!

Unfortunately, some of the front desk staff were less than friendly and not interested in helping guests with inquiries.

So first the good points. The outdoor pool is amazing with lots of sun loungers. The lifeguards though spend their whole time looking at their phones and ignoring the customers.

The surrounding area is riddled with vagrants in the bushes so access to the hotel is closed off from all the main gates, meaning you can only access on foot using the vehicle entrance.

But the main problem with the hotel is that the rooms are in need of serious upgrading and better maintenance. Here is a list of the issues I had in the room:

Some lights not working in the bathroom and the bedroom.
Noise from bathplug - constant gurgling noise.
Narrow beds - not wide enough for an adult.
Floodlights from outside window - had to wear an eye mask to block out the bright lights.
Weak air-conditioning - the room was constantly warm and the Aircon made little difference.
Only 1 plug in room - had to charge my laptop in the bathroom sink using the hairdryer plug!
No hand soap or shower gel - had to use my own shower gel.
Noise at night from the downstairs - my room was right above the reception. Had to use earplugs to sleep.

Lovely large hotel, but some areas need a little maintenance. Lovely staff who were very helpful. The only real negative is the lack of coffee making facilities in the room, when we asked we got a kettle but only 2 sachets of coffee and no top up during our stay. Location is only a 10 minute walk to town so convenient. Would stay here again.

It's obviously been a very beautiful place and still is on first sight.
Basically now it's just in a state ready for a refurbishment...Carpets are have lots of stains throughout . furniture looking tired but some are original..loved the pictures on the walls showing the history of the place.
Beds were comfortable and view was nice
Didn't get the chance to use the indoor pool. Sadly the mini golf which I find great fun has been took away and couldn't find the gym.
Can't complain at the price though , parking is very convenient and the food very good .
Would recommend for couples as nice and quiet but no good for families with kids as they would be bored there.
It was my wedding night there and both myself and hotels.com asked if there was anything to make the stay more memorable but sadly didn't get a reply

Ideal for Algericas port

Easy to find. So close to the port.. ideal. Walking distance to restaurants. On site car park. Could see port and Gibraltar from our window.
Very colonial building and style of rooms. Yes dated, but clean. Reception very friendly.
Pool refreshing. Plenty of sunbeds when we arrived 3pm.

It's a gorgeous, historic hotel, and the staff was friendly and accommodating when I needed to extend my stay. The location is good too- it's not far from the port and main road, but it's on a hill & surrounded by nature, so you don't feel like you're in a city. I was disappointed that the indoor pool was out of service since it was too cold to swim outside, and that the gym was tiny, with only 3 pieces of equipment. The single room is listed as having a private balcony, but that was not the case for me. Still, it was an overall great experience.

Overall I enjoyed my stay. The room was clean and tidy but the air con was set, and was a little cold. The hotel grounds are well maintained and the interior and communal areas of the hotel were clean and nicely decorated. The staff are polite and helpful but it would be wise to learn some Spanish, as not all speak English. I only ever ate breakfast; full buffet and cooked available which was of a good standard. The hotel is 10 minutes walk from the bus and train station, and there are pool facilities that I didn’t get to use. I would stay there again.

Been on our travels for 3 weeks now and this was the most expensive but worst hotel we have stayed at. Things started fine with a excellent receptionist who spoke very good English. The room we stayed in was large and looked comfortable. Then we went for tea. The option appeared to be restaurant or the bar. We opted for the bar. Big mistake. The menu was minimal and what I ordered wasn't available. Getting the one waiters attention was quite difficult, to the point I had to go to the bar to see both the waiter and barman eating chips in the back room. On returning to our room it was apparent that the aircon was very poor to the extent it wasn't worth switching on. Trying to charge over 12 euros for breakfast is in my opinion is burglary. Won't be staying here again

It was a beautiful property and gardens. The rooms are plain, but clean. The property is somewhat removed from the hustle of the port city. Nice buffet for breakfast and dinner.

Grand Hotel that has seen better days.

Pleasant hotel - of the Grand Victorian era, set in its own park. However now is not so grand but it is still a very pleasant hotel. Maintenance seems to be on a tight budget room doors not fitting well so need to be slammed to close, which make it a bit noisy. Buffet breakfast was very good and replenished frequently. Hot cooked brealfast plus an abundance of fresh fruit with pasties and breads as one would expect.
Parking in abundance around the entrance and the roads around the parkland.

Almost perfect.

Our room windows opened near the front entrance. There was a group of motorcross riders who arrived late revving their engines. Standing under our window also seemed to be the place where employees went out to smoke! Dinner is usually a buffet but the one night we stayed was a menu choice of 2 items, one being chicken, which they ran out of pretty quickly. The charm of the place, comfortable amenities, ease of parking and helpful English speaking staff is why I still say “4 stars” overall.

The front desk lady named Carmen was extremely uncooperative when i checked in at 1055pm. We had to depart at 615 am the next morning to catch the ferry. Carmen insisted that I pay Euros 25 more since my son was staying in my room.. I had prepaid for breakfast that I didnt get because we left so early and we were there barely 7 hours..
