It is lack of enough staff. First night, suddenly we wake up at 3 am with a tribble noise due to strong wind causing the window to be open. We could not closed it and lot of rain was entering into our room affecting our stuffs. Went down to reception, he offer to change our room but there no one to help us to get our stuff to move the the new room. I asked for a bottle of water, no room service was available after midnight and also no any water bottle was available to be taken to our room. Receptionist offered to go to the spa and take some water in a cup from a machine. I’ve been to Malia in many places around and I was expecting surely much Aveiro deserve much better hotel service.

Air conditioning was not working in our room hotel unable troubleshoot the problem so they brought us a portable fan. We were offered a room change for our 2nd night but we had to pack everything up to move rooms…too much bother for us. Also we arrived at the hotel around noon but were told that our room would definitely not be ready before 3pm after a long day of travel this was very disappointing.

Wonderful Stay

This is an excellent hotel. Everything from staff to the appearance to cleanliness to breakfast was awesome. We also each had a massage. Wonderful! Only disappointment was the pool was not a single due to construction. It is close to mega shopping and lots of restaurants and of course the river. We had a river view and loved riding in and watching the Gondolas. We will definitely stay there again. Also We arrived on my husband’s birthday and we went out to dinner and when we returned back to our room the staff had left a tray of fruit and parties and a bottle of wine with a birthday card. An excellent touch.

Good breakfast and room adequate.

Unfortunately there was a rap concert on in a temporary arena immediately outside our window, between the hours of 10pm and midnight. This was extremely loud to the extent that the bed was vibrating and we could not hear the TV. The concert was not arranged by the hotel, however the staff were very well aware of it and had not informed us in advance.

We asked to change rooms, however were told there were none available. When we raised this again in the morning, we were not offered any concession eg on the room rate.

The spa pool was also out of order, but we were not made aware of this at check in (and use of the pool/spa incurred an additional fee of €15). Had we known about the concert and the spa pool being out of service, we would have booked an alternative hotel.

Worst Hotel Ever!

I booked this hotel specifically for the hot tub and sauna, after days of walking Lisbon, my feet and back were killing me. The Hot tub cost an additional 12 Euros. The steam room was broken. The sauna fit only one or two people at a time and the jacuzzi was only luke warm. When I told the attendant this, he said the jacuzzi was 33 c and I must be \"getting sick\" or something, which I am not, only sick of this hotel. It was less of a jacuzzi and more of a giant therapy pool, with no seats. If you push the button near the jet, it turns on, but only one jet was working and occupied. The rest of the pool is just a massive luke warm pond. The food was weird, the beds were rock hard with springs you could feel. I didn't sleep at all that night and my day of recovery required another day of recovery at my next location.

If you want to use pool or gym there is a 15€/hour fee you have to pay. If you want to park you pay 9€/day. There are much better options for the same price, unfortunately I didn’t notice this before booking.
Employees were very rude, very different from what I was expecting of a premium service.
Rooms are old and not very well cleaned.
On the more positive side bed is comfortable and breakfast is amazing.

Melia Ria has a perfect location, just a few minutes walk from the main attractions in this small town.
The hotel is an excellent option when you are doing a road trip through Portugal, we were doing Porto to Lisbon and chose this stop to enjoy this small but charming town and also Costa Nova, pretty close to there. The facility is good, it has a good restaurant and
the staff was very friendly and helpful. The parking of the hotel is very small and annoying, but there are options for free in the neighborhood, honestly, trying to use the underground parking that they will charge daily was a waste of time.

This seems most like a conference hotel. Perfectly nice, nice breakfast, nice spa and workout room, where we had very nice massages, nice staff. While the canal ends at the hotel, it is not very scenic. If we hadn't needed a king bed, an elevator and a/c, we would have looked for something more traditional near the original canals. Also, we made the mistake of thinking a canal boat ride would take us past the striped boat houses, but it doesn't. (Poor research on our part.) They are in Costa Nova. No real reason to visit Aveiro unless you can do a day trip to Costa Nova.

Great stay, highly recommend!

The location was great, very walkable to shops and restaurants. We appreciate the covered parking which was very secure. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and extra pillows were available. There was plenty of closet and storage space. We appreciated having coffee/tea available in the room with the kettle. The bathroom was clean with a very nice shower and good size countertop for storing toiletries.
One of the best things was the restaurant and bar in the hotel. We enjoyed a light meal at the bar the night of our arrival; friendly service and excellent food. The breakfast buffet was terrific, great food quality and selection. The full english breakfast was a special treat that we don't get to enjoy very often. Food items were fresh, replenished regularly and staff kept tables clean between guests.

Location, staff, and property conditions were excellent. My only complaint is that expectations should be set when booking. Great pics of the pool were shown, but they don't tell you the pool must be reserved for you to use it. We were a large party and found it disappointing. Second, let us know water is only free in the room the first day. If I would have known, I would purchase water for the room. We woke up in the middle of the night extremely thirsty, with no water.

Great location

Our stay was very short but the whole family will remember it for a long time. Great location, comfortable, warm, cozy place to stay during winter and friendly staff. The room was clean, with a tasty breakfast buffet, and we had a room-service dinner. It was good and they gave us freebies, the 'Portuguese Ovos Moles pastries'-'Aveiro soft eggs' for dessert.

Nothing to write home about, functional, business

Location is close to the shopping center and Old town with numerous restaurants etc. It is more a hotel for a conference or business stays rather then us travelers as couple on exploration trip.
I was not very impressed by the paid Spa and pool area. I have never experienced it before and i am a well traveled person. We came to the pool area to check out if it was worth paying 10EUR each for 1 hour in the pool. The decision was definitely No. Nothing special or worth the money. We stayed in hotels in Braga and Coimbra on the same trip, and their lovely pools were included in the price.
Other thing i was not impressed is the levels of noise. You might need a good earplugs. Granted it is not a hotels fault, that weekend was some sort of Military exhibition event just across the canal and they kept playing same song/tune on the loop all days. Very load, it continued after 10 pm at which point i rang the reception to ask how long the venue and noise will continue. The person who answered my call just simply answered she cant hear anything and she doesn't know. Poor customer service experience.
Parking in garage again is extra. All in all it just felt they are going to squeeze as much money from you as they can.
Breakfast was very similar to other hotels in Portugal so presume its pretty usual breakfast they serve. I terribly missed more vegetables, pickles, smoked fish but thats my personal taste.

Deram-me um quarto com duas camas de solteiro em vez duma cama apesar de estar sozinho. Sei que isto é normal, mas tendo em conta que o hotel não estava cheio, podiam ter tido mais atenção. O ginásio e a piscina não estavam incluídos no preço, os posters no elevador a promover os serviços de spa parece que foram imprimidos já a algum tempo e tinham umas fitas nas portas a dizer que os quartos tinham sido limpos o que quando retiradas deixavam marca na porta. Conclusão: para um hotel de 4 estrelas parecem muito “baratos”

Hotel standard, correu tudo bem. A interpretação \"covid\" da forma como os pequenos almoços funcionam é ppico prática. A obrigatoriedade de usar luvas das bombas de gasolina é pouquíssimo prática.
O que não gostei foi o facto de ter de pagar 5€ por pessoa para ter de ir á piscina. Nós éramos 4, logo 20€ para dar umas braçadas...

The only reason we chose this hotel is because its indoor pool. The website is not clear about the fact that using the indoor pool is not included in the basic room price, it costs 10 euro per day extra. Since this is not common in the US, not listing this important information misinformed us. The hotel is 15 minutes away from city center, not the best location. The buffet dinner is nice, but it does not include drinks, not even drinking water, but it has to be requested, and served, felt ridiculous.

Aveiro is justified in being compared to 'A little Venice' The town is divided by canals and painted ex-fishing boats take tourists on short journeys through the town.
The Hotel is a new building at the end of one of the canals. A 10 minute walk along the canal path will take you to the town centre.
Reception was very efficient. The room was average size and was bright and clean. It was well equipped though there were no facilities for tea/coffee making. The bed was very comfortable.
My only concern was the lack of trained staff in the bar at the time I was there. No beer on tap. No dry martini for a martini coctail. No green olives. No 12 year Bushmills whiskey (though I think that you can only get 16 year old). A waitress from the restaurant tried very hard to get us drinks but it was clear that it was not her area. (She was excellent in the restaurant later.)
Everything else in the hotel was excellent and I would strongly recommend it as a comfortable place to stay.

A little pampering goes a long way

Very sophisticated hotel, modern, clean, incredibly comfortable beds, deep soaking baths, generous check out, views over the canal, short stroll to shopping precinct along the canal, gondola close by for scenic view of Aveiro. Very fortunate to receive an upgrade which was appreciated after travelling, Definitely worth a visit for some R&R and well priced spa treatments.

We booked this hotel because of its excellent looking outdoor pool and fitness facility. When we arrived however we were surprised to learn that the pool was indoors AND we were expected to pay a huge fee to use it - and the fitness room. The breakfast buffet was terrible as well - would not recommend. Room was clean but dark.

Perfect choice for traveling with car

We were struggling with finding a good hotel with safe parking and decided on the Melia Ria as a base for our day trip to Porto. What a perfect choice it was! Melia Ria offers exceptional service, well appointed spacious modern rooms and spotless clean bathrooms, great swimming pool and decent gym, spa is available as well (we did not try it).

Their restaurant is excellent: delicious breakfast with endless selection of meats, cheeses, eggs, and mouthwatering pastries, Nespresso machine is available as well. We also had dinner at the hotel and it was just perfect - try their Portuguese fish pie with potatoes (Bacalhau) and their sea bass grilled to perfection.

Safe garage parking was a big plus for us (6€ per day). The hotel is less than 10 minutes from the train station with frequent service to Porto. We took a train and were in Porto in 45 minutes avoiding hassle with finding parking for our rental car.

The location is very safe, the river and the gondolas are right next to the hotel. You can walk along the river to the upscale mall with many good restaurants and the supermarket is also nearby.

I would stay in Melia Ria and in lovely Aveiro in a heartbeat. So happy with our two nights stay!

The best hotel in Aveiro

I have visited Aveiro several times and stayed at different hotels. The Melia Ria is hands-down the best hotel in the area. It is modern, clean, efficient, the staff is friendly and acommodating and the breakfast/dinner buffets excellent. I visited in the middle of the Summer but it never felt too crowded or too noisy. Downtown Aveiro and all the attractions are nearby. There is covered parking (for a fee) and my only pet peeve would be that you need to ring the front desk to get in/out of the parking lot. That was a bit annoyinf but really everything else is great. And I didn't even use the pool/spa!

The wireless service is not good and is inconsistent. If you are doing business and seek to stay connected with the rest of the world, the wireless service Melia Ria can become a challenge.

Nice location

The hotel was nice. Although should be better for the price we payed. But if you want pool plus spa seems to be the only one in the city center.
We stayed on room 622. The walls dirty near the tv also the carpet had better days.
Overall only a 3* .

A great place to stay in Aveiro

The hotel is surrounded by a water canal, and it's both calming and beautiful. However, we arrived with luggage late in the evening when it was already dark. We tried multiple paths to get to the hotel only to realize that there's no board walk on the water, so we had to walk all the way around before arriving at the main entrance. Hotel itself and the staff were both very nice. Pool and spa area relaxing - make sure you bring flip flops and a swimming cap to avoid paying for those (it's apparently mandatory for the use of the pool). Location is a short walk from the city center and about a 15-min walk to the university of Aviero campus. Only downside was that there were multiple short stints of power outage when I was there. The first night for maybe 10 minutes and the second one during the afternoon.

Modern four star hotel, close to sights and shopping, tourist bus comes right to front of hotel. We returned at 1600 (4 PM) one day and had to ask for the room to be cleaned.

Near old town, but far enough to be a quiet spa. Only 10 inute walk to old town. The ría is just outside. Very friendly staff.

A modern hotel in a small town. Good value!

A modern hotel in an small town at an attractive rate. Stayed one night for a conference. Room big and comfy. No iron or board. Bathtub and shower. Wireless internet free and decent speed. Typical continental breakfast. Gym and spa available for extra 5/10 Euro charge, but only open at 8am, so a morning workout just prior to going to work may be challenging. Location is walking distance to centre of town and train station. Right next to the picturesque conference centre (located in a historic ceramic factory). Staff was friendly and helpful. Plenty of dining within walking distance (well... The whole small town is walking distance...). Location is about 50 minuets (and 100 Euro) by taxi from Porto international airport (OPO). Twice that much time (but a fraction of the cost) to get there by train.

Best hotel in aviero

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel very clean,great breakfast,and location was perfect.We had a car and it was nice to find out we could park for free across the street.About a 5 to 10 minute walk to center but very nice walk. Everyone at the front desk was very nice the girl that checked us in gave us great suggestions to beaches and a town fair. I ended up needing to see a dentist Jorge at the front desk was wonderful his coworker called their dentist and got me an appointment.Jorge called them back for me got directions and confirmed my appointment..They all went above my expectations it was very appreciated. Aviero does not have street names on buildings or signs so sometimes hard to find where you are going..But just ask anyone they will probably walk you right to it even if you are driving a car...

Great hotel, close to centre

The hotel is situated next to a lovely canal where you can see the many boat trips as they go past. The hotel is very clean and modern, but did lack tea-/coffee-making facilities in the room. My room was really big and had a great view of the canal and the nearby cultural centre. There's a pool and spa in the lower floor of the hotel, and though I didn't use it, I did walk around and it looked pretty good. The hotel is a few minutes' walk from the local outdoor shopping centre, and then the old town. It's not too taxing, and you can walk along the canal. Overall, it was a great experience, and I'd happily stay here again.

Out of the centre of the city a little, but only a 10 minute stroll along the canal so not a problem. 6 euros per night for parking the car in the underground car park, although there is a free car park outside the hotel. Hotel well looked after and breakfast of a reasonable quality. Worth a stay.

Good central location

We really enjoyed our stay at the The Melia Ria. The hotel is centrally located within walking distance to cafes and restaurants. Aveiro is a good central location to explore the surrounding region.
