My wife and I recently stayed at the Victoria Inn and found it to be a cozy and welcoming place. The accommodations were different from what we’re used to in the States, but still very comfortable. The beds were great, the AC worked perfectly, and so did the hotel Wi-Fi.

Be prepared to climb a flight or two of stairs to reach your room, but once inside, it’s worth it. Downstairs there’s a restaurant and bar where we enjoyed a couple of hearty breakfasts, including the classic English breakfast—these were included with our stay, which was a nice touch.

For American travelers, the showers may take a little getting used to. Instead of a single handle, you’ll find two knobs to adjust the temperature, plus the nozzle itself. It was a bit tricky at first, but easy enough once I got the hang of it.

Overall, we were satisfied with our stay. A quick note on the area: the hotel is located in Peckham, which has a reputation for being a bit rough around the edges. While the immediate surroundings of the hotel felt calm and safe, it’s wise to exercise some caution if you’re walking farther out.

All in all, a pleasant experience.

Kept waiting absolutely ages to check in. No queue, just something ahead of me taking an extrodinarily long time to sort out.
Finally got to the room and it was freezing cold. I would expect rooms with booking to be warm and comfortable. I had to ise the fan heater all evening and left it on all night.
To top it all, the room (9) was very noisy, from what looks like the kitchen extractor machinery.
This was my second stay here, the first one was great but this time was really not good value, for a cold noisy room, especially as the price has significantly increased.

We stayed in room 2, twin room with 2 very soft and comfortable single beds. Great room, ample space for our suitcases, big bathtub with both rainfall shower and a regular shower. Windows could be opened and were protected by window bars so felt comfortable leaving the windows open whilst sleeping. Flatscreen tv with a selection of channels, kettle with a selection of teas and a pod coffee machine. Hairdryer in the wardrobe just inside the door was a lifesaver as I had forgotten to bring my own.
Expected to be somewhat disturbed by the pub on the ground floor as it was a Saturday night, however we didn't notice any noise. In fact the only noise we heard came through the open windows from the bar just up the street.
Breakfast was really lovely, much better than expected. The smoked salmon was really good quality, which is very rare to come by anywhere.

If we had to add a note of something that could be improved, it would be the lighting in the main room. There is only a small ceiling lamp that provides fairly low light, so doing my hair after dark in the mirror by the beds was a bit of a challenge. Not an issue during daytime as there were 3 windows providing ample daylight.

This is a charming pub hotel in a quieter area of Peckham. Easy walk to Peckham Rye station, and lots of bus routes to different parts of London. There really aren't other hotels in this area making for a pleasant surprise that the Victoria Inn is well kept and comfortable option. The breakfast was delicious, and staff friendly & helpful. My room was quiet and I was never bothered by noise from the pub below. Would definitely stay again!

An Inn dated back in 1878, a gem. Rooms are currently renovated on its old bone, carries a strong contrast to its pub on the ground floor where homey yummy food served. The staff was super chilled, it’s Peckham after all. Highly recommend!!!

Noisy and showing signs of wear but mostly clean

We stayed for two nights for an event happening locally on Friday and Saturday nights in a superior double room. Please be aware that accommodation is located above a busy pub and therefore it can be particularly noisy. We didn't notice many complaints about noise in other reviews and whilst the rooms were soundproofed from the outside noise, the bass of the music played within the pub would reverberate to the room until the pub closed at 12am, when the music was turned down for the staff to clean until 1am when it finally stopped. There are some areas of wear and tear such as the bathroom shower where the light was broken and the toilet seat which was falling over the to right hand side, some areas of cleanliness could have been improved around the shower area (such as using mould sprays to remove mould in the shower tray). We were informed that breakfast was served until 12pm but later found out that it finishes at 10.30am for hotel guests. Apart from this, breakfast is good with a lot of a la carte options to choose from. We would not choose to stay at this property again due to the noise but it is conveniently located and the staff pleasant.

The bathroom was a disgrace. Tap on the sink broken… when water ran it then came up from the shower base and flooded the bathroom. Bringing up with it sediment and what looked like excrement from the toilet.

The toilet itself when flushed was fully blocked and water filled up. Had to leave my stay without showering or being able to use the bathroom facilities at all.

I spoke to a representative who was unable to get hold of the owners and was given the choice of driving at 12.30am whilst over the limit as had been drinking to go to a different hotel or to stay in the one I had already booked. 48 hours later and I still haven’t had any update on my complaint.

A tale of two nights

This was a really odd stay. The first night we were in room 4 - directly above the bar - on a Friday night with music so loud that we could hardly speak to each other let alone think about sleep. In the end I went down to complain and was told it had to continue until midnight. Very disappointing. - although I think it did go down a bit. Also the room had various fault - like a blocked sink.
The next morning during breakfast (very good by the way) I had a conversation with the manager on duty and we got moved to a room on the floor above. This was excellent and we had a great night's sleep.
So do you rate this - 1 star for the first night then 5 for the second? average 3.
Staff were very helpful but the management need to decide if they are a hotel or a night club.

Bar hotel in shady, unsafe neighborhood

I never actually stayed here as I did not feel safe in this neighborhood. When I read other reviews, no one mentioned how bad the area was. As soon as I got off the train and saw all the graffiti, I was already a little worried. My walk to the hotel was very unsettling - it literally looks like a ghetto and there were so many shady people hanging out on the streets. By the time I got there I was on edge and just wanted to go to my room, but didn't realize the hotel was above the bar. I decided to just forfeit the money I prepaid and book another hotel. Maybe the hotel and service is excellent, but I don't feel like this property is a safe place for female travelers.

Excellence in vibrant Peckham

First trip to the Peckham area the Victoria Inn looked good on the internet, the enticing pictures of trendy revamp of a Victorian inn, it's appealing menu and its location to a relative we were visiting, looked perfect. So we booked hopeful we would enjoy our stay.

We were not disappointed! The wonderful welcome from all staff, each of whom were friendly and responsive. Our ensuite room was delightful. The high quality gourmet food was delicious, with an excellent selection of wines and local beers, served in a vibrant atmosphere. Clearly this place is very popular with local people too. Folk pop in for coffee to relax and read the newspapers, or meet with friends for evening drinks or a meal, which gives it a real community feel.
We shall definitely return and have recommended to relatives already!
