The property is very nice and the staff welcoming. The bed was comfortable. It IS an historic property so some things are not modern. It has a small fridge and a keurig type coffee pot but no microwave. The bathroom has very little shelf space. Our room faced the main street so there was traffic noise but it was mostly quiet after the businesses closed. The breakfast provided was basically a carb-fest with toast, waffles, muffins, etc so diabetics and keto folks be aware and plan ahead. The coffee was good. It has an elevator but some of the doors and layout is smallish so people with walkers, wheelchairs and service animals be aware. We didnt ask for an accessible room so those are probably better.

Staff was super Amazing!! Hotel is historic so things are not updated... but beds were comfortable, water was hot enough for shower. Things were creeky and dated -part of the charm. Traffic on the main street is definitely noticeable. Little easy continental breakfast. Location was Amazing ... lots of little shops. For being an antique hotel.. things were decently clean. Second story pool was cool with nice patio seating.

Stay wasnt good. Wanted a get away with my girl and they stuck me in a crap room. Not the romantic getaway i thought. The shower i could barely turn around in. Taking a crap, my whole leg was forced to be against the tile wall. The door had so much space in the cracks that the hallway light shined like the sun into the room at night. Paid so much money for a room that wasnt even as good as a motel 6 room. It sucked. No place for dogs to go to crap either. Most people just let their dog crap on the sidewalks. Sad. But the staff was friendly. Thats the only good thing about this historic place.

I was not expecting to be put in a room with no window to the outside. Also, the amenities in the room were quite spartan. A single bar of soap for both the sink and the shower. Two thin pillows for a double bed. For the price I suppose it’s adequate. But had I known, I would’ve sprung for a better room type.

The rooms are decent. Small, but decent. HVAC for the room is a window heater/air conditioner. It worked well, but noisy. Shower is old fashioned 2 handle to control temp. Because of this it is extremely difficult to take a shower without vacillating between scorching hot and ice cold. If you get it right... wash quick! :-) The I took a star off comfort because the bed covers they use were awful and kept coming off and you end up sleeping on the mattress waterproof cover which looked dirty. Only two pillows per bed. Would like to have seen 4. They own the hotel behind them, so you park in their lot. Sonora Inn has no parking lot itself. Never had any problems parking even on a holiday weekend. Breakfast was ok. They ran out of a lot of what should have been out. The staff is excellent and very friendly!

This was an ok hotel. I was looking forward to a stay at a historic hotel but it really was like 1880s and not in a good way. The bed felt it was made of cardboard and we couldn’t find the thermostat until the morning so the room was freezing all night. Also, too small. The hall ways, the way into the room, space around the beds. All of it you could call “cozy” but I call it small

Not rustic charm, truth is maintenance just not performed. Windows broken (won't start open and won't completely shut). Bathroom sink water faucet and shower run (won't shut off) and diversion valve for shower broken so more water flows to tub than shower head. Tub and sink old and stained, carpet worn, towels and sheets are well beyond their service life. \"Upgraded City View\" room is on the street with windows that don't seal making the noise defining - and there's no \"view\" because the windows are so dirty you don't need to use the drapes for privacy.
Overall, a bargain $50 motel chain provides a similar experience.
One positive point, staff very polite.

The room was small and cramped, difficult to set up pack n play and walk around it. Bathroom was very outdated and looked unclean. The shades are not black out and light pours in from the street all night, as well as sounds from cars and motorcycles. Walls are thin, we heard neighbors slamming drawers all night and children slamming doors/running down the hallways loudly while trying to sleep. The fridge in the room froze all our food, including baby’s milk. Overall just not a pleasant experience.

The facility itself was nice; clean, updated and comfortable. Our room was right next to what is probably the busiest intersection in Sonora. So, it was louder in the room than usual. The great part is that the AC unit was kind of loud so it drowned out the traffic noise. So,…there’s that. They have a real parking issue. They share a very small parking lot with a sister facility next door. It is not enough for both facilities. We didn’t want to move our car once we got a spot. The car spaces are incredibly narrow. The staff was very nice and accommodating. We received 10% off coupons for 3 places to eat at check in. We ate at wonderful Mexican restaurant just one block north that was absolutely awesome. This facility is centrally located to do other fun things around like Colombia State park, James town and plenty of Goldrush historical sites.

This is an older hotel, it was very clean and we enjoyed our stay very much, but there are some inconveniences because of it being an older building. The parking is across the street from the main hotel, and our room was surprisingly tiny with a king bed, but that is more to let people know, it didn’t bother us. The only actual thing I would have liked to see different was to add a garbage bin to the room or have some larger bins available somewhere in the hotel. One small bin in the bathroom is not enough, especially if you do not otherwise need your room cleaned daily.

The hotel itself is amazing, super cool history and comfortable beds with very cold rooms and a free breakfast. I loved my stay here! Only downside is loud motorcycles/cars that go down main street, but that isn’t really Sonora inns fault. It stopped pretty consistently around 10-11pm though :)

This was one of the worst hotel stays I have ever had. I chose the Sonora Inn because in the pictures it looks pretty, classic, well cared for, and the location was great. Problems: 1) It is not well cared for. It is run down with seemingly little care to upkeep. Old, torn flags fly. 2)The building inside is a patchwork of remodels. 3) We were assigned a room that was very hard to get to, up and down stairs and around corners. 4) The bathroom in our room was closet sized and added on inside the room space. It was so small you could hit your head getting off the toilet. 5) The breakfast and breakfast area was so bad, it would have been better had they not had it. A staff person stood by the food to make sure you did not turn the knob on the toaster. There was no place to sit. We gave up and went down the street for coffee and bagel.

The customer service here is impeccable! The staff went out of their way to treat the family and dog like their own family.
The breakfast was nice had a variety of choices.
The pool was so refreshing especially since it was so hot when we went.
The only thing that could use some help was the room appearance. They are doing a good job preserving the orinal look but the bathtub tile was chipping and the toilet flushed very loud

Excellent Hotel Stay for a Couple

Highly recommend staying here with its central location in the downtown and nearby hiking and adventure sites. The room is fine for a couple, but somewhat long and narrow. The AC cooled the room well and was not in the bedroom which kept the noise down. Bed was comfortable. Strangely the front desk staff had a pattern of being distant or grumpy, but not that important an issue. Overall, this was a perfect place to stay after a late night concert at Ironstone in Murphys.

Property, which we were told was recently renovated, did not meet the same standards. we had a room with cracked tiles in the shower, holes in the wall where the towel racks had been removed and you had to lift the toilet seat to close the bathroom door. Room was clean and had everything we needed. Maybe my expectations were too much for a “historic” hotel in an old gold rush town.

We’ve stayed at the Sonora inn a couple of times now. It’s decent and clean, however it’s old and it seems like the owner struggles to keep up with upgrades and maintenance sometimes looks cheap and not properly installed. The potted plants and shrubbery around the property are dead and make it look rundown. They also have a very strict policy that check in is 4pm. You can pay $36 to check in early if a room is available. We arrived at 230pm and we needed a room sooner since we were traveling with a 3 yr old and the weather was warm to hot. I had to pay the $36 for one room and waited for until 4 for the second room. The lady at the desk was helpful as much as she could be but seemed under scrutiny of the GM that was lurking around to make sure the clerk was doing her job correctly. I would recommend the Sonora Inn since the price is right and it’s decent and clean. Just don’t show up before 4pm!

Love the gold rush feel of the hotel. Matches the town. The rooms are lovely with a quirk that makes the stay worth while. Bathroom was great (the door wouldn't close unless the toilet seat was up!!! - love old hotels) and shower was hot when I needed it.
Didn't sample the breakfast but heard it was good.
Easy check in/check out and staff was awesome.

I was disappointed in a few things. It’s an older hotel which is fine but I have pictures of how nasty the walls were. They clearly do not clean the rooms very well.
We also had a room next to the building next door, we could hear every cough they did, talking, very thin walls…
As we are packing up from our one night stay we get a bang on the front door at 10am (check out is 11am) yelling housekeeping. I had to yell no thank you as my husband was getting out of the shower. Thought that was odd..

Won’t be staying the night here anymore just due to how they are clearly not disinfecting the rooms when people come.
