First room that was assigned had another person's suitcase in it. Next room, TV unplugged, tear in top sheet, no cleaning service 1st night, no kleenex in the room, towels looked dirty, woke up to ants all over bedside table, portable heater, lightbulb missing in bathroom, shower went cold all of a sudden, then back to warm, and the bare floors were gritty. Yes, it is a very old hotel, but the website photos are very misleading.

The staff was very accommodating and the room was freshly cleaned upon check-in. I was even able to check in early. I appreciated the friend Line of the staff although the pool was ready I didn’t want to get into the pool however everything else was wonderful. I appreciated that there’s parking. The room reminded me of a bed-and-breakfast place even though it was a hotel. It was very personable and it was the center of the town where there were plenty of restaurants and stores nearby just by walking.

This is a vintage hotel built in the mid 1800's. It is a bed and breakfast in the middle of town. We enjoyed the old feel and obvious age of the property. Located on a main street, we stayed in room 11, one of the original to the building. An extra large room with two queen size beds.(mattresses needed upgrading, but bedding was cute.) The rolling floor keeps you guessing which way to turn in the room. The charming glass windows are still original to the building, we sat in the rocking chairs on the front porch, and aired out the room, while waiting for friends to join us. Water pressure was great in the bathroom. Breakfast was fine, but the most enjoyable was the camaraderie in the dinning room. There was a casual vibe and we enjoyed talking to the other folks that had ventured to stay in this interesting and original place. The first two story building in Sonora built by Dr. Gunn.

This is not the cleanest hotel. I can't tell you the last time the floor was vacuumed or the room was dusted. I had to clean the nightstand myself. It was very dirty. it had a nasty sucker stuck to it. Had to ask for toilet paper. There was an 1/8 of a roll left in the bathroom. Didn't know at the time of booking you need to ask for a refrigerator & microwave, they had to bring it to use. Also no coffee pots in the rooms. The breakfast was terrible. Although they did have a waffle maker, bread, bagels & fresh coffee cakes. The tables outside should have be cleaned. The room was cute, but very noisy due to street traffic. The one & only staff member was very helpful and nice. I wish I could say i would go back. That's not happing.

Our room was very clean with plentiful towels and toiletries. We enjoyed the belgium waffles offered each morning. Any request we made brought an immediate response. We are hopeful that the apparent deferred maintenance on the building itself will be done at some point because we'd like to continue our 20-year relationship with Gunn Hotel.

We have been to Sonora many times the town is adorable. This hotel is… they try to keep the old feel which is nice but everything broken doesn’t make “ the aged look”. The headboard was ripped off the wall had wood hanging off. Had a stool that if you sat on I’m sure you’d break a hip falling off. Oh the shower pressure was good though.. if you want your skin to peel when it hits you. And you can’t be over 4 foot tall if you want the water to be on top of your head. After a certain time of day don’t plan to find staff for towels or an extra pillow being you get one, sorry propped up back sleepers. And the pool… if you like green water this one’s for you! All in all I wouldn’t stay here again.

The room was beautiful and amazing. I loved the vintage old look. The room was clean and the property was beautiful. The only problem was the internet. It was very weak and didnt work properly. You are better off just using your data plan. The location was perfect and located downtown Sonora. There was plenty to see and do since it was in the downtown strip. The Hong Kong Chinese restaurant across the street was delicious and very well maintained. The food was excellent and came out quickly. So if you are planning a vacation to gold country, Sonora, ca. this is a great place to stay.

Place old and ran down. Are room had these see through curtains and the minute the sun came up the room was totally lit. Parking lot got full fast, and breakfast was horrible. We paid about $250 for a room and it was overpriced. For that much we would expect a complete buffet breakfast and an inclusive happy hour.

This is an Old Hotel. You can imagine after many, many guests and building age things are not going to be brand new. Things need repaired and repairs are many. With that said, we loved it!! The staff was very hard working and accommodating. The antiques in the room and on the property was like stepping back in time, with indoor plumbing and cable TV. The free breakfast was a treat. Thank you. A great adventure.

The room was neglected, not clean, stain on bedspread, stains on towels and bed sheets, vodka bottle under bed, etc. Room should be remodeled from top to bottom. No real amenities...but soap and shampoo. Wallpaper coming off and patched in weird fashion. The staff was nice. Some of the picture franes were screwed into the wall. Breakfast in morning was just cakes, brownies, bagels, waffles, fake syrup in a 10# can, cereal and cold egg casserole. There was no salt or pepper but there was mustard but no idea what its was for. The breakfast room was freezing. We could even see our breath. Everyone in room was wearing coats.

When I was checking in asked about their breakfast times and was told my room didn’t include the breakfast but I could pay an extra $20 to get it, but I re-read my booking and no where does it say it was an extra fee and everywhere it stated that free breakfast was included. We did end up getting the free breakfast. Just weird like they were trying to make money in the side or something. Our room was clean for the most part but the heater barely worked. And there was absolutely no hot water the water was barely warm and then to have no heater it was crazy cold. The entire reason we got a room was because we wanted a hot shower and a warm room

The one person staff waws very nice and helpful. The rooms are very dated and in somewhat disrepair, poor heating, poor water pressure. The shower water temp regulates on its own and there is no slip pads in the shower, very slippery. The heating is not good. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was surprisingly good with fresh cakes, pastries and bread, waffles if you wanted. The hotel is 175 years old and is full of history and antiques.

I was disappointed whenever I saw the actual property. By the pictures, I knew that it would probably be not perfect and not a four star hotel. But I figured it would be quaint. And it was quaint, but the room was gross. It needed to be painted The bedspread stains. I found a stink bug on the ceiling. There was no heat in the bathroom. it was just kind of a crazy place. And I later found out after arrival and it was the type of place where people go and stay weeks at a time that probably cannot get into an apartment However, the breakfast was all homemade and great, but otherwise the property was very ran down. I honestly felt like I was being watched my cameras. No, it was not good so I hope management sees this and cleans up the place because it’s in a Prime area right on the highway right in the middle of town.

This motel property is one of the oldest buildings in Sonora. The building has a lot of history and character from the gold rush days, which is still seen in the breakfast dining room.

Unfortunately the hotel operator isn't maintaining the quality of the property. The room doesn't look like they do a thorough job in cleaning it. I had to clean the bedstand myself with some tissue paper and hand sanitizer. I should have brought my own Lysol. As others have said, the floors can be dirty - bring your own shower slippers.

The towels appear a little stained, but overall still acceptable to use. I brought my own towels too so I didn't need to use their face towel. The bathroom toilet appears clean with toilet paper, toiletries, and soap when I stayed. The toilet handle, though, is broken and duct taped -- this is unacceptable.

Also the room is a bit cold staying in the winter time. That's fine because the historic doors have cracks and the top could open independently of the bottom. I didn't use the heater because it's too noisy. I would expect that hotel operator to clean the heater filter at least. I brought my own sleeping bag for warmth.

Some have said there is an odor to the room. I brought my own HEPA air purifier to use so that wasn't an issue for me.

Customer service was excellent! Whatever we needed the staff made sure to do their best to get it and as quickly as possible. They were talkative and friendly with the people staying there, and I was impressed with their care. I would have liked to have access to coffee either in my room or at least too late at night. Other than that I was good. The day was wonderful and we would recommend it to anyone who asked.

We cannot recommend this hotel. It looks cute and quaint from the outside, but the room was run down with paint peeling and dirty. TV had only a few stations. No one was at the front desk most times; we had to call a phone number for help, with some one eventually arriving after awhile. Comp breakfast was substandard, although the breakfast cakes were yummy. The pool was dirty. The whole place needs a major renovation.

The website for this property gets two things correct. The bed was comfortable and it’s an historic hotel. Nothing else is as advertised.
The hotel itself is lovely though desperately in need of TLC. What a shame to see such a beautiful property with so much charm not being properly cared for.
There are serious safety issues the worst being a large gap between the last step of the stairs to the third floor and the porch of that floor. There is no warning of this and one of my party suffered a fall resulting in injury. When we brought this to the managers attention, the response was so lacking in basic concern and attention to the issue we were shocked. There are numerous other safety issues including lack of emergency signage, and adequate fire extinguishers. There was no telephone in the unit, and staff was non existent, and the front desk not staffed., Our bathtub had no slip mat, or slip prevention at all causing me a near fall.
The big, fresh-cooked breakfast buffet was not big, not fresh-cooked and in no sense a buffet. The “fresh” food offered was a small dish of lukewarm quiche. Everything else was an extremely subpar version of a continental breakfast lacking basics like napkins, tea service, toppings for the packaged oatmeal, fruit and any protein options aside from the quiche. When we brought our issues to the manager he simply made excuses and he made no effort to resolve the issues. He simply did not care.
Be warned, this hotel not as advertised!!

Overall, a good option to stay at in Sonora. The one item that was a bit annoying was the quality of the WiFi service. There were two WiFi routers to choose to log in but both provided horrible quality WiFi service. Given that in today's environment, WiFi and internet access has become something that most people rely heavily upon, a better WiFi service option is something that hotels should provide.

I enjoyed my stay. The staff was friendly and helpful. I researched Gunn House with the help of AI and was fascinated by the history of this 175 year old building. The room was clean. All the Furnishings in my room were antique and I would love to have taken all of it with me. The layout of the hotel is a little confusing. I had a difficult time finding my room at first. If your physically challenged by high steps and steep staircases you may want to choose another Hotel. The breakfast was excellent.

I don’t write negative reviews often. And this isn’t to slam the property just an FYI, and do better kind of review… first, the guy who checked me in was falling asleep as he checked me in… this was about 4pm. Second, sheets were clean? But had hairs all over them… third, towels were not visibly clean, after seeing the bed I cautiously approached the towels… there were little hairs in them. I can handle hair… but then I opened up one of the bath towels and it had brown streaks in it… I did not mention to staff because I figured “new” towels would probably be same condition… like I said do better. Historic and dirty are two different things.

Cute rooms with AC that works okay-ish. Nice pool! Super lovely staff that runs this historic landmark hotel, which is conveniently located within short walking distance to nice eateries and restaurants, as well as adorable shops in Sonora

This is a historic hotel in the heart of downtown Sonora. The decor is quirky but overall charming. Our air conditioner worked well until it started making screeching noise during the night. The breakfast is impressive with homemade cakes and a frittata and the coffee is good. Also the usual breakfast stuff like the waffle maker.

This hotel has so much history and must have been beautiful in it's heyday, but it is in serious need of a refresh.

The furniture was charming but falling apart. The room was tidy, but in serious need of a deep clean, and I found ringmarks and hair on the tables and other surfaces.

The walls were thin, and in my street-facing room I could hear traffic all day and night in addition to my neighbors in other rooms.

Liked the room and area, partiers late into the night, no TP in bathroom, outside garbages overflowing, breakfast an hour late ( both mornings), shower did not work, as well as tub filled up (clogged). The poor guy working was doing so alone. In his defense, he did what he could and was very polite, but there was just too much for one person. Housekeeping could have done better, and the caliber of guests was lacking...

The hotel we stayed in was made in the 1850s. The room was set up in a traditional vintage stage. Although there was no refrigerator, no microwave, no coffee pot, it was still nice. It felt like we were experiencing the vintage era of its time. But there was air-conditioning thank goodness, cause it was really hot in Sonora.
