Stay here! You won’t be disappointed. It really is paradise. Much better than staying in cinque terre. I traveled with my 80 yr mom and teen daughters. All of us loved it. The views are incredible. Lots to do in the town and easily walkable. Went swimming in the grotto by St. Peter’s church. We toured cinque terre because I thought we had to see it but couldn’t wait to return to Portovenere. It’s quiet and laid back. The breakfast was very good. Our room was big enough for 4 and had 4 twin beds. The staff is very helpful! This is probably my favorite place I’ve ever traveled. Truly spectacular. Would return and stay here or the sister hotel, the Belvedere.

Closed for Winter Season 2021?
We booked this the date of our stay Wed. Dec 29, 2021. When we arrived during the designated check in hours all the lights were off and the doors were locked. Phone rang repeatedly but went unanswered. A lot of surrounding hotels were also closed. Call and confirm that this hotel has reopened before arrival!

I liked everything but the sound insulation between rooms 234 and 235. First I heard running water and after a couple of hours I went down and reported it to the front desk. Somewhat reluctantly the person in charge followed me up and checked room 234. Turned out that the water in the toilet was running. Easy fix of an irritating problem. Worse was that the occupant of that room was snoring so much that he kept me awake. Not an easy fix!

Great little old-world hotel and restaurant near the center of town and right on the shore of Porto Venere. Super helpful and friendly staff. Great breakfast spread. No pool or rec facilities, but it’s walking distance to a couple of beaches - both free and private.

The room’s furniture was very outdated, the bed and pillows extremely firm to the point of being uncomfortable. The bathroom was truly small. The WiFi never worked. Considering the hotel is quite expensive, there’s much room for improvement.

This is a gem of a hotel. The town is charming and the hotel is well run and absolutely beautiful. It could be a challenge for the elderly with all of the stairs as it sits on a hillside, but other than that I would enthusiastically recommend this hotel to anyone!

The Happy Accident
We found ourselves unable to find a room in the Cinque Terra. Booking in Porto Venere was the happy accident we will always remember. Whereas the Cinque Terre was touristy and overcrowded, staying at Hotel Paradiso was exactly that, paradise. Quiet, clean, incredibly helpful and friendly staff, we enjoyed our time in this beautiful hotel in a beautiful port with its own incredible charm; food, sites, shopping and swimming.

Portovenere is a hidden gem! Compared to it, Cinque Terre villages are over-crowded, over-hyped and over-priced tourist attractions. Portovenere has everything - a marina, a small beach, a bunch of restaurants, remains of a small fort, windy streets and souvenir shops. I cannot recommend it more. Getting there is a bit of a problem: a car is recommended but parking is tight.

Midnight room swap
Staff are wonderful and responsive, even at midnight. There was smoking coming into our window from a nearby room and made it impossible to sleep. Windows needed to be open because A/C was not available yet this season. The night manager moved us into another room at midnight. Other staff helped us arrange our travel during the day. We recommend this hotel.

Lovely hotel, close to everything.
My communication with the hotel prior to arriving, usually with Desiree, was always prompt, professional, and clearly answered. Our hotel room had a magnificent sea view, which altered with the light so there was always something to look at and enjoy. Stefania greeted us, parked our car for us, and gave us helpful information about Portovenere, restaurants, and locations. The room was simply furnished, but with lots of space for our belongings, especially in the bathroom, which wasn't huge, but had lots of space for toiletries and towels. It also had a bathtub, which I loved and a very good shower (in the bathtub). The only concern was that the bathtub was very deep, so getting into it to shower could be q problem for some people. Breakfast is taken in a room with huge windows all facing the sea and there was lots of choice, cereal, yogurt, fruit, breads, pastries, cheese, meat, eggs, bacon, juices, milk, anything one could want, ad delicious cappuccino delivered to the table. We enjoyed our stay very much and will recommend it to anyone we know who is visiting Portovenere.

Good hotel in a good location
Portovenere is a small town and it is popular. Checking in was quick and easy even if parking in the town was not. There is only limited space to stop near the hotel doors so unloading lots of bags could be problematic. Also, don't confuse 'Gran Hotel' Paradiso with 'Grand Hotel' which has it own underground carpark. Hotel is in a good location as it doesn't overlook the main harbour area which can be noisy at night. You still get a seaview from most (if not all) rooms. Room was clean and had good facilities. Breakfast was good too.

So glad we stayed at this hotel on charming Portovenere. It was close enough to see Cinque Terre but such a quieter more charming place to escape to after. Wonderful staff and perfect wifi and breakfast!

Great view but very basic room
The hotel has a perfect location and view, however management doesn't invest anything back into the room, so expect 4 walls, a bed and a small flatscreen TV, nothing more. The idea is, you are paying the owners for their lucky positioning which gives a great view, not for anything they invested in the room itself.

We had a pleasant two day stay. Room was nice, if a little dated. Had a lovely water view. Just a short walk along the harbour front to the ferry serving Cinque Terre and to all the restaurants and bars. Nice continental breakfast and cappuchino available upon request. We parked our car right in front of the hotel for 10 euros per day, which was pretty good considering the rate charged at the public parking spots (anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 euro per hour)

The perfect hub for a Cinque Terra visit
My son and I spent 9 days touring Europe, scouting places for us to bring tour groups and definitely found an amazing one in Hotel Paradiso! Simply put, it is like staying on a movie set location, as the view is stunning, the staff amazing and the rooms super clean and comfortable. It's the perfect hub for seeing the Cinque Terra, as the boat tour, which is basically a huge water taxi, is with in 500 meters of the hotel. We loved seeing all the villages, but the highlight for us was coming back to The Hotel Paradiso for a delicious meal, then watching the world class sunset at the castle that sits on the point of Portovenre.
Stefano and his team are truly amazing to work with and have our highest recommendation for couples, families or groups wanting to enjoy that very special part of Italy.
Logistically, it was very easy, as we took the train to La Spezia station and Stefano was kind enough to meet us at the exit tunnel and get us to the hotel for only 40 Euro! It was definitely a highlight of our trip and we can't wait to go back for another visit with our groups.

Great views from a compact space!
Our family of three stayed at the family-operated Hotel Paradiso for three nights in March. We had a quad room with a loft and spiral staircase. Our teenage son enjoyed having his own little space! One bed for adults on main level and two twin beds in the loft. The room had a spectacular view of the harbor and was just a minute walk to the main area of town or down the steps to the restaurants along the harbor. The room was compact but functional. We you are in Portovenere you are not concerned about staying in the room! The breakfast area had spectacular 180 views, as did the terrace and indoor lobby seating area. Once again, we were traveling in the off-season (March) but enjoyed the slower pace and fewer people bustling about. Avoid the main restaurants by the harbor and venture up the narrow roads for better quality and lower prices. The supermarket is just down the street from the hotel if you wish to purchase snacks or other supplies. The staff were cordial but not overwhelming friendly or helpful. The breakfast was good, and I loved waking up to the smell of fresh pastries! Meats, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, and various breads were available. They did provide great parking on the street right by the hotel for our car rental, which was great, but I expect that during the summer months parking would be extremely limited. One of our favorite days was exploring the town, church, and amazing coastal views from above the town.

We chose Portovenere due to the location to the ferry for visiting the Cinque Terra and we were very luck to find the Hotel Paradiso. The location is great, we had a wonderful view of the Bay of Poets, and woke up to the most amazing sunrise ever. The ferry is definitely the way to see the CT in all its glory, we strongly recommend it over the train, unless the weather is bad (it wont run then) but we were very lucky!

Wonderful views and staff
We were picked up at the lower elevator at La Spezia train station by Stefano who drove us in the shuttle to the hotel. The fare was 40 euro for three of us. We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Paradiso. It has fabulous views and is a short walk into Porto Venere. We had dinner at the hotel and were served by by our waiter, Luigi, who was very entertaining!

The hotel is run by a family who take pride in what they do, nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is located up the hill too far to walk to so a taxi is required or use the hotel shuttle bus which operates twice a day. The view of the lake and Bellagio is stunning. The continental breakfast is adequate and the bathroom is VERY small but overall a nice place to stay.

beautiful little town that is not overrun with tourists , if you want to see a classic Italian village with lots to see and do then this is the place to go. 30 minutes from the train station in La Spezia.

Family room was not functional at all.
Family room was small with a mezzanine level for kids with extremely low ceiling with exposed beams. Heads were knocked often. Our older daughter could touch the ceiling when sitting up on her bed! The hotel is located near shops, restaurants we could walk to everything. The rooms are dated but clean. Breakfast was good.

Upon waking up to the morning light, I opened my eyes to see the most amazing sunrise..... the water, the gently moored boats, the rising sun. I couldn't have imagined it to be any more perfect! The hotel itself is very nice with a clean, comfortable bathroom, slippers, etc. Beds are comfortable and nice, crisp linens. The location is beyond perfect as well- steps from the town center where you find the bars and restaurants and a grocery store as well as St. Peters church and Byron's Grotto which is where I spent the evening watching one of the top ten sunsets I've ever witnessed (and I've been around the world and lived in Hawaii and Southern California so I've seen some amazing sunsets in my life!)!! Stay here! You won't be disappointed.

Wonderful experience, very helpful staff made it a real pleasure. Laundry was done quickly and cheaply, and the hotel was extremely helpful in returning a Europcar GPS unit I left charging in the room, enabling me to be reimbursed the full cost of the GPS. Would not hesitate to recommend the Paradiso to anyone considering a vacation in Porto Venere. Thanks in particular to Desiree!

Let's face it, you are paying for the view and it does not disappoint. If you have trouble with stairs and carrying your luggage, then try to find another place, though that may be hard in this hillside town. The breakfast was good with made-to-order eggs and squeeze-your-own juice. We had a teenie, small room over the breakfast room roof. My college dorm room had more character. But all the necessities were there. I was glad we were over the small roof when I accidentally dropped my shoe out the window. They sent someone up right away to fetch it with a pole. Location excellent: walk to everything.

Hotel Paradiso has great services and friendly staff. We had good tasting dinner in the hotel restaurant on the first night and acceptable daily breakfast. We missed the use of an espresso machine in the breakfast room that is typically found in other hotels with similar rate. Albeit this minor complaint, we will definitely stay there again.

We really liked the hotel. It was fairly quiet, and not run down like so many others. The price was high, but not a surprise during August.

The service wasn't exactly welcoming but was satisfactory. They didn't know the boat schedules for trips to the other five villages were which surprised me. However they were helpful in telling us where to park.

My husband and I stayed fo 4N and used Portovenere as a base to explore the Cinque T. The hotel staff were extremely helpful with information about what to do and transport to La Spezia. Breakfast was simple but excellent. The room was simple, clean and well serviced. Overall the location was faultless. For a 3star hotel it was worth the money.
