Always wanted to stay in the Meandering Room since its inception as HotelHotel.

Unfortunately the room was requiring maintenance with multiple of the cupboard separated from the hinges, hole in the bottom of the wall but the room was still beautiful none the less.

The Monster Kitchen menu was limited and has lost the must have unique dishes it once had

The hotel is well positioned and the access to cinema and restaurants is wonderful.

In room dining meals were delivered on time, hot and tasty.

Breakfast selection is extensive and worth at least one meal or taking out the breakfast option.

This unfortunately is where the positives start to fall off:

The ‘Creative Sun’ room was spacious but the furniture coverings were of a material that can’t be easily cleaned on a regularly basis. These points showed on the upholstery and the cushions/soft appointments were stained. The hotels efforts to provide a retro industrial chic feel were detracted by the level of cleanliness.

On a positive the bed was comfortable and the sheets clean. However the acrylic bed blanket is old and covered in pilling.

Carpet was dated and there was stained with lint and dirt on the floor.

The dust on top and of the cupboards was thick and came off when opening the door to the fridge nook.

The bathroom is wonderful and the towels clean, large and soft.

The heating thermostat errored frequently. The lighting was dim and temperature setting could not be seen. A torch was used.

There are a number of residents who own dogs, which made elevator rides interesting.

Immediately outside side the hotel on the stones there were multiple dog droppings. Should be picked up not welcoming

This is my favourite hotel in the entire country. I stay at Ovolo if I can in every city. Even my own! and also including overseas (Hong Kong). The stand out for me at Nishi is the design, the bed linen that is superb and the location. I came for a national photographic portrait prize and you can always pop by what is on. Floriade, another visit to the National Gallery, etc. One thing I noticed, mini bar used to be free. Its gone from great to reduced to a few things to pay for mini bar. It is the thing that set you apart except for the above, for me.

Spacious room with view

The hotel is about 15-20 mins walk from city centre. There are cafes and restaurants near the hotel for a quick bite.
We stayed at the original sun room which is spacious and overlooks the lake. Lighting is not bright enough though there are many light settings in the room.

We found the rooms to be particularly dark with no natural light even in the middle of the day- and without sufficient in room lighting for day to day tasks such as working, applying makeup. Corridors were also very dark with no natural light making it difficult to navigate to eg; the car park.
No window with outlook to tell if it was sunny or raining etc
Also re streaming tv service - we were able to use chrome cast to stream - but there was NO sound making it unusable.

This stunning property is all about 'COOL' from the moment you arrive in the eclectic space (an architectural gem) to the rooms themselves. An open area for the bar and casual dining, with fireplace and funky objects on display as well as a massive descending staircase that takes you to a first-class cinema (no need to leave the hotel) and at the time of my stay the Scandinavian Film Festival was on show!
If only they had not closed their dining room, an inviting space with an excellent menu for the omnivorous plant-loving dinners: now just a simple spot in the bar with a limited choice :(

Comfortable stay with room for improvements

The bed was very comfortable. Candy bar had lindt chocolate during Easter which was amazing treat for kids. Booked room for three but was only provided towels for two, had to request room service to deliver another one. Hotel Parking was third party run and not easy, straight forward. Breakfast was just ok.

Interesting architecture but the interior lighting is really poorly designed. We needed a head torch inside our room to locate switches and plugs and the 'mood' lighting in the hallways made it almost impossible to see room numbers on the doors. With no ability to increase the level of lighting in rooms this suggests little attention has been paid to practicality. The rest of the hotel was interesting and the staff excellent...but we would not stay there again.

The exterior looks beautiful but the rooms itself are small and dark.

There was a smell on the pillows and just generally didn't feel clean inside the room.

The VIP Access benefits of daily free drinks are only available between a 4.30-5:30pm window... If your staying for work, you'll never get it and they won't let you claim it any other time. Never had this experience at a VIP Access hotel...just don't offer if you don't mean it.

Really nice hotel. Modern feel and staff helpful and friendly. Parking slightly confusing at first as is a public car park and no signs for the hotel to suggest you can park there. Room fridges are only room temp so if you want anything cold you can’t from the fridges. Location was far away from anything without travelling in relation to food and activities but overall the hotel is a nice place

I loved this stylish and friendly hotel in a great part of Canberra. The staff are very friendly and the room we stayed in was superb, particularly the bathroom. The breakfast is wonderful, not a buffet, but a proper cafe breakfast with a great choice, made to order.
The only reasons not to give highest rating for everything were:1) a loose fitting in the bathroom and the soap being stuck to the wall too far from the bath to reach. 2) service was a little slow at breakfast. ( only two people so understandable and by no means not good, it’s just if I were to rate as excellent there’d have to be no wait and also no forgetting one drink. Otherwise a really great stay in a very cool and well appointed room. Also love the complimentary tote bag!

Didn’t live up to hype

We were supposed to have a complimentary drink on arrival. None was provided and we couldn’t be bothered asking. Tried to offer $40 parking overnight we found off street parking instead.
Our room was facing the highway and was noisy, windows are thin as we were woken by neighbours as they came back late and talked loudly for over an hour.
There was dirty dishes and leftover hot food in corridors the whole time of our stay, it was pretty gross (hot chips and other leftover containers left overnight). We won’t be staying again.

While the dim lighting was obviously intended to create a particular atmosphere, it did make navigation and access awkward.
Once in the room, found casting to tv didnt work (no sound) and reception for normal channels patchy.
One teabag per person was also a little disappointing.
Left the hotel for a run in the morning and was back hours before check out time only to find room / access keys deactivated.
Location made for easy walk into city but access by car not straightforward due to road closures for light rail construction-which wasn't mentioned on any check-in or booking sites.
Overall, was ok but didn't love it.

Very modern artsy hotel with lots of extras

Not quite what I’m used too as in room ambience very dark moody hotel. Service is wonderful we complained about our room being noisy and they were quick to change us to an atrium room which feels very dungeon like but we slept well.such a shame as the view of the lake was amazing in other room but right on busy highway. I did ask to be away from highway in my check in notes, but alas not heard.
Had a few issues with our tv but they came and fixed it and brought us lattes for our trouble. I have never been to a hotel where they actually follow through with your complaints and try very hard to fix. Even a quirky card and bottle of champagne in our room to say sorry for all the troubles we were having. Free candy at check in was quirky and was great to munch on for dessert. Didn’t try the vegetarian restaurant for dinner but had guacamole at the bar which was amazing. All in all I think most people would enjoy this hotel but it’s not for me I do prefer rooms with a view that are not noisy.

Disappointing return visit

This was a return trip & it was disappointing. The usual Ovolo experience wasn’t there. Check-in was very lacklustre with no information & just passed a key. Not even instructions on which side of the hotel our rooms were on so we knew which elevator to go to. Breakfast has gone down hill in quality and choice, and the room smelt musty & mouldy. A big drop in standard since our last visit. We won’t book there again.

Ovolo Nishi offers well appointed rooms with very comfortable beds and attractive decor. Unfortunately the Original Sun room I was allocated was just above a highway and noisy for all but 5 hours, impacting my sleep quality. Coffee and teas provided, and room service available. There is a restaurant in the building.

It's clean and well located but I wouldn't book it if you like natural light. I paid a little extra for what I thought would be a better room and ended up with an \"Atrium Room\" which put me below ground level looking out into the Atrium. This meant that even in the middle of the day my room was in near total darkness.

Room was average but had a good view. There was a problem with the light switches, the lights could not be turned off. The front desk staff came to our room to resolve the issue but were unable to and no one from maintenance was available. We had planned to sleep early because of a long day ahead of us so it was quite inconvenient to sleep with lights on. However, the reception staff was very helpful, they gave us another room where we moved all our stuff. Lost valuable time that we could have used to rest.

The location is good, you can park for free out the front if you get up before 6 am and move your car.
Great to have the Palace theatre in the building, and walking around the lake is also good.
