Just fine. Location and Breakfast are the best parts. There was a big queue when I arrived so I did the self check-in but it didn't really work and ended up back down at the desk. Could be improved especially with the information you would normally get at check in with a person (e.g. Breakfast time and place, what floor your room is on etc). Room very dated with musty smell, asked for the fan to be cleaned in bathroom as full of dust (never was). Works for a couple of days but would consider staying somewhere else next time.

The parking was an issue and felt like we were misled when booking, in the room there was a note about having hot showers and if you set off the smoke alarm (obviously poor positioning on their part) we would be up for a $1500 fine!!!.

It is not up to the usual or Novotel standard that I am use to.
I would not stay there again

Check in was pretty minimal - they just handed over our room key. There isn't information about the facilities in the room - a QR code comes up on the TV, which links you to the information. We don't usually turn on the TV, though - maybe this information could be better displayed on a card in the room with a QR code on it.

The pool was lovely - it's a nice temperature, the space is great, and it's fairly child friendly at 1.2m deep with wide steps. They advertise that they have inflatables out during the school holidays, but they weren't there during our stay.

Breakfast was fantastic - a fresh, hot buffet with multiple staff providing quick service. It's a good deal to have breakfast included.

The location is surprisingly quiet for the city centre - we didn't even hear the buses coming and going. There are major ongoing roadworks out the front of the hotel, but access is maintained and we couldn't hear them during our stay.

I didn’t expect a large room but couldn’t put a bag down and still get around the room without climbing over things. Claimed to be two queen sized beds. Definitely only double size. Pool was great! Parking so expensive.

This hotel was pretty amazing. We had a pool and a wonderful Buffett breakfast in the morning.
The rooms were clean.
The fire alarm went off at three am. Someone was apparently smoking in their room.
Everyone moved out in an orderly manner onto the street.
But there wasn’t any hotel staff around giving us direction or telling us what was going on.

Superb location! It doesn't get any better than this. Despite being family friendly and having lots of couples with children staying there, hotel is wonderfully quiet. Combine that with top notch mattresses, comfortable pillows and high quality linen, you'll have the best night sleep. We left the car at the hotel parking the day we came and didn't need it until we checked out. Hotel is only couple of minutes walk from shopping centre, plenty of coffee shops and restaurants. This is not my first time staying at Novotel Canberra and it certainly won't be the last.

Front desk attitude towards wotif/expedia customers not as good as opposed to Accor/Novotel customers.
We were given low levelled rooms(2nd floor) and room condition was not very ideal for a 4 star hotel.
Bedsheet had stains and marks and pull out bed condition was way below average. Won't be staying at this hotel on any future visit. Location of hotel was prefect though to food, shopping and ease of travel. Limited carpark though.

Parking is poor, very few parking spots available at the hotel which cannot be booked in advance, you will need to pay and park 2 blocks away. The breakfast buffet was the best part of our stay. I will start with the positives: Room Clean, Staff Friendly, Pool Great. A few negatives so only 2 of 4 lifts working, so getting stuck in lift regularly and waiting for long periods as lift was full so often. Card thing in lift seemed to only work 20 percent of time rest of time either card to fast, to slow or just some reason floor light went off seemed to be a specific method but I couldn’t say I never nailed it. Would have loved to use stairs if they existed to avoid this. The car parking expensive not guaranteed and when not available had to try find parking just to run in and get another code for carpark down the road. Not great if you have kids or anyone with disabilities as quite far and again costly for what it was. Location has potential (not the hotels fault) but the government needs to get on top of housing crisis. Getting to hotel nightmare can’t right turn at lights, next lights tram works couldn’t turn right again had to go who knows where, trick locations to find another root after all that parking was a pain. Constructive criticism: give your hotel guests the codes to both incase one carpark is full. Could not have done this without another driver to drive car around while I sorted car parking shambles. So spent likely 2 hours of my weekend total navigating road closures and trying to get access to car parks again not all the hotels fault just what was supposed to be stress free was extremely stressful. I won’t be staying again.

Was a perfect little getaway with the kids. Great pool and spa! we loved it. Great food options around and quiet. Only downside was parking, no parks available under and no one would answer the phone to answer where to park. We ended up parking at the city centre and having to hall our stuff to the hotel. Also when we arrived all bags and kids in tow not one person acknowledged us. We ended up doing self check in. Didn’t actually speak to any employees while we were there, which was pretty poor effort on their part.

Clean room, clean and tidy premises, friendly, polite and professional staff, i used self check in and all went well apart from the machine not issuing me keys, but it was still very breezy to get my keys from reception as i did all the preliminary check in and pre auth at the kiosk to the left of reception.
We didnt utilose the breakfast, but my kids used the pool, and although i felt bad for any poeple without kids at the pool, everybody at the hotel pool was so accepting of the school holiday influx of kids in the pool.
We felt very comfortable letting our kids enjoy their time in the pool and NEVER felt that they were being a nuisance. (My kids are quite well behaved but some people dislike happy and rowdy children, which i respect, but makes me feel uncomfortable and uptight if i know)
Id stay again because our stay just felt easy. Thankyou Novotel for an overall lovely experience.

It would be good to have at least two chairs in a room for a couple and also if the single chair actually fitted under the desk. A small bench in the shower cubicle would also be handy to put items on as the small rack above the toilet is too high and not easy to access. It would be good to have more variety of vegetables served rather than two sprigs of broccolini. The parking charge and availability should be made clear when booking as this is an additional charge when comparing motel prices.

Upon arrival, it was mentioned that in was a returning guest (and was thanked). A ‘gift’, consisting of 3 small chocolate bars and 2 bottles of water was waiting in the room (that was nice).
The room we booked was listed as 1 x King bed and 1 x sofa bed.
After arriving, it became apparent that the sofa bed didn’t have any bedding nor was there any spare bedding or pillows in the room to allow us to make up the bed (additionally, after pulling the sofa bed out, it was quite clear that under the sofa bed had not been vacuumed in some time, evident by quite a few pieces of popcorn, biscuit crumbs, and chips).
A visit to reception was taken and a lovely staff member attended to make up the sofa bed and then also retrieved a vacuum cleaner to sort out under the bed. 10/10 for that staff member! 3/10 for the hotel…

Had a wonderful time with my son. The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable, the shower was great, the staff were friendly. We really enjoyed the pool, spa, gym and breakfast. Easy walk into town to food and shopping and very close to the lake where we went for a beautiful bike ride.The only thing I could fault was the paid parking which would have been a significant extra cost if we had stayed longer which we both wanted to!

There is a very hip “food court” with interconnecting wine bars just across the road. On-site parking was a bit tricky as it was full but good that the lit up sign displayed how many parking spaces were free (so I went around the block and 1 space became available).

We had such a lovely 2-night stay at Novotel Canberra! From the moment we arrived, the staff were welcoming, friendly, and genuinely helpful, making us feel right at home. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well set up for a relaxing stay after a busy day exploring.

The location was fantastic – right in the heart of the city, so it was easy to get around and enjoy Canberra’s sights, cafes, and shops. We also loved the hotel facilities, especially the pool and gym, which made it easy to unwind.

Breakfast each morning was fresh and delicious, with plenty of variety to suit everyone. Overall, we left feeling refreshed and well looked after. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Canberra, whether for work or a weekend away. We’ll definitely be back!

Great location in the centre of town easy to access everything, hotel has all the amenities you expect for novotel, room was spacious and bed was comfortable. I would probably not recommend driving, it was difficult to drop off items as limited drop off bays out the front and car park was full. It was very busy due to school holidays and it was a bit chaotic in the lobby, lifts were slow, we were early and had a great breakfast but people were waiting in line for a table when we left. Overall still a good stay and we had buffet breakfast included in our room rate which made it very good value for money.

The Novotel is in a great location with a light rail stop outside and 2 blocks walk to the shopping centre which has lots of food options.Unfortunately the hotel itself not great. Our room had broken fittings like door stop and towel rail, the furniture was very dated, and hot/cold taps were labelled the wrong way around... a safety issue. The tiny shower/bath was not great.

The parking situation is out of control. For 800+ guests there's maybe 100 spots available and they are all taken by the early afternoon so with 2 young kids we had to scramble to drop off at the door with one parent while the other went to the overflow parking around 4 blocks away and walked back in Canberra winter weather, then went to get the car again in the morning to pick up again which wasted 30min each time. Roadworks and closures near the hotel meant driving around the block taking a lot longer and walking to parking a longer way around.

The breakfast buffet has a sign telling you at peak times the wait in line for a table is 20min but we found it was around 30min when we stayed. In 4 days the options had not been changed or refreshed once, it was all exactly the same, and one coffee machine was out of service the entire time. The food kept running out and it was hard to find a staff member to help. Each time I asked for sugar and stirrers I was told they should be on the table but a quick look around and you could see no one had any. No pepper in the grinder.

The pool is great for the kids after a long day exploring. However, the hotel is dated and they could do better with the quality of food in the restaurant - although very typical of hotel food. Further, the front of house staff really need to be better informed. They couldn’t tell you what bus to catch to Questacon or how to get to the zoo or where to hire bikes. Considering that family's stay here every holidays for these experiences FOH staff need to be confident in delivering this information.

Unhappy Buffett experience

We had a good stay overall, but the breakfast experience during the busy morning period was disappointing due to a lack of supervision at the buffet.

The rush wasn’t the issue — it was seeing children unattended around the food. We witnessed kids sniffing dishes, breathing over the buffet while reaching for items, and even putting food back from their plates. It felt unhygienic, and we ate very little out of concern for food safety.

As parents of two young children, we would never let them approach a buffet alone. Most hotels have signage requiring children to be with an adult, so it was surprising this wasn’t in place here.

A bit more oversight and clearer rules would go a long way in improving the breakfast experience for all guests.

First Saturday of holidays and they only had two staff on reception and not enough cleaners everyone had to wait hours for their room to be ready. Parking is very limited, I got the last one at 2:10pm, room was overpriced but I needed the convenience being close to an event and walking back alone. Room was clean and no smell appreciate that, tv had basic channels staff were lovely and helpful they just needed more of them rostered management made some easy $$ this weekend and took advantage of school holiday peaks.
