The reception staff at Pest-Buda were courteous, polite, and genuinely helpful, which created a good first impression. Unfortunately, the rest of the stay was disappointing.
• Restaurant service: breakfast-The staff were consistently rude and unaccommodating. Orders were mixed up, and any request for flexibility—such as switching homemade bread for a croissant—was met with a firm “no.” One staff member in particular (with a beard and ponytail) was especially dismissive and negative.
• Facilities: The hotel does not have a lift, and this was not clearly mentioned in advance. Carrying luggage up the stairs was inconvenient.
• Housekeeping: Room cleaning was below expectations. Housekeeping even removed our personal plates, spoons, and knife, and only returned the plates—never the spoon or knife. This felt careless and unprofessional.
Overall, while the reception team was excellent, the poor restaurant service, lack of transparency about facilities, and subpar housekeeping made the stay frustrating. Pest-Buda has potential, but significant improvements are needed before I could recommend it.

The hotel was absolutely beautiful and the staff were really lovely and helpful. The only main issue is that the hotel runs very warm temperature wise and our room was no different. It was impossible to adjust the heating to a comfortable level despite 3-4 times discussing with the front desk and having someone come to the room.

Breakfast was lovely too however it was very busy most mornings— once we had to be sat in the reception to await a table. The dining room didn’t seem to be big enough and maybe not enough staff

The property has this unique feel/vibe to it. Location is excellent. Quiet and we felt safe to walk at night. Near the Bastion which has a nice view of the city at night. Check-in and check-out process is very smooth. We had a great time indeed in Budapest!

Loved this hotel! Wonderful design and location. Very helpful personnel. The restaurant is superb and the waiters are great. There are stairs, but the staff will help with your luggage. I only wish I could have stayed their longer. Would recommend and would stay there again.

Great location.

Great location. The hotel is located in the Castle Hill. A few minutes walk to the Buda Palace and Fishing Bastion terrace offers panoramic views of the Danube River. The staff was terrific, and the cleaning service was amazing. I highly recommend it.n

The hotel was very comfortable and although the building was centuries old it had been restored in a very sympathetic way with many contemporary twists. It was not only beautiful to look at but was also very functional.
One downside was that there is no bar nor longue for you to meet other guests and discuss your stay in Budapest.

Lovely hotel. No elevator. 60 steps to the top floor. Room was not cleaned or serviced 2 out of 3 days we were there. No coffee replacements, no soap and lotion replacements. No service after six as hotel was not staffed in the evening. Could be better if the hotel was better staffed and operated as a 24 hr venture. Would recommend but there will be drawbacks.

Booked the junior suite room 14. Booked thinking this is a small boutique hotel with great service. The room is nice size but it’s right above the front door and on the road and even though it’s a tiny street you hear every car every person walking by and every suitcase wheeled by. No soundproof windows. We used ear plugs. They have limited front desk hours and it’s operated by a bunch of young guys who also run the restaurant. They certainly do not provide much service or go out of their way to help you. He sees two seniors and barely takes one suitcase and there’s no elevator. In this country we strayed in other small hotels and they treat you like family and go out of their way to help. The morning before checkout at breakfast we asked for breakfast (just croissants) to go because of early check out. The guy who is at the desk (really just at the restaurant, there’s not much of a front desk) said sure they will leave it in our room during the day. Upon arrival no such thing. Went down to ask and the restaurant guys just shrugged and said they had no clue. This place really disappointed and we did not feel welcomed and taken care of, which is why we booked at a small boutique hotel. They couldn’t care less. Also note, it’s across very close from a large construction project. Very disappointing.

This hotel is a boutique style which I greatly love. The area was quaint and quiet right near Fisherman’s Bastian and a short walk to Buda castle. Staff was very friendly. The bistro located on the ground level has wonderful coffee and traditional Hungarian food, very much enjoyed the chicken paprikash.

What a find!

We can't say enough about this hotel as we were celebrating a third honeymoon after nearly 30 years of marriage. Comfortable, private, lots of little personalized touches - as a boutique hotel it was perfect! All the staff were personal and professional and the bistro was wonderful. As for the location in Budapest's Castle District, beautiful and special - we felt so set apart in a magical area, but nothing fake about it. I thought it would have been worth going elsewhere for a Danube River view from a hotel room, but am so glad we came here instead. Highly recommended! We'll be back in another 10 years or so.

Fabulous local hotel in the Castle District in Buda. Absolutely charming!!! Loved our stay.
Staff is friendly, rooms are delightful, location perfect.
After staying on the busy and crowded Pest side for a couple nights, we moved to Pest-Buda Design Hotel to complete our trip. It was a perfect way to finish our travels. In the evenings, the castle district is quiet and peaceful….fabulous food and beautiful surroundings. Fabulous!
5 stars is not enough.

We booked one of the suites for my 50th birthday and could find no faults at all with the hotel or staff. The suites are on the 3rd floor and with no lift are probably not recommended for anyone who struggles with stairs. Very convenient location for the Buda Castle, and very close to the 16 bus stop which takes you to the Pest side of the river.

Really liked the property and the rooms are a cut above your average hotel in the heart of the nicest part of the city. (You pay a premium for this but what would you expect?)

The effect is spoiled by the pricing. If you opt for B&B rates you get croissants included, but if you want anything else there’s a charge.

There’s one coffee capsule per person for the nespresso machine in the room and you have to buy additional at €1 each if you want more!

We have been to other (cheaper) hotels in Budapest with all you can eat buffet breakfast and unlimited free coffee in the room.

Sort it out Pest-Buda and your customers satisfaction will get better!

The Management are absolutely super here and cannot do enough for you.
Food in the restaurant is FABULOUS also.
The beds in the room are the most comfortable I have ever slept in. Will definitely be back to saty there again.

We stayed here in early October. Our stay was fantastic. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. The room was stylish, comfortable, and functional, plus a good size to accommodate our open suitcases and so forth. Great shower, nice ammenities, comfortable bed, windows that open. We had dinner in the restaurant one night, which was very pleasant. And of course, it's hard to beat the location! A 3-minute walk to the Fisherman's Bastion and St. Mathias church. We would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful hotel, great decor, very comfortable. There were a few things missing - when I got to my room, there was no "welcome letter" in there, so when I went down to reception to ask for the wifi, they told me to refer to the welcome letter in my room. The attitude suggested I hadn't already looked for that info in my room! It was a bit weird. Generally a great stay, though. I would definitely recommend it to friends or even stay there again. The food at the bistro downstairs was delicious as well.

Our best European stay ever

I don’t know where to start as it was all so so lovely!
Other than the beautiful restaurant and hotel, which is set in the most idyllic and beautiful part of Budapest, the service we had was just about the best we have ever had. So warm and friendly.
We were immediately welcomed and shown around by our host, his manner and sense of humour made us feel so at ease. And the rest of the staff were really good to us throughout our 4night stay.
We had the only internal room which didn’t have a window (I knew this when I booked) but as it was dark outside while we were actually using the room this never made any difference to us so please don’t be put off. And there is air con if you need a little air. The room itself is as beautiful as the rest of the hotel (one of the oldest buildings in the area) and has a unique layout with the bathroom being openplan. The pipes under the bathroom floor kept us toasty when we returned after a cold day exploring the city.
The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable and the hotel was really quiet, so we slept very soundly.
On the first day we ate breakfast at their restaurant downstairs and we really enjoyed it. The avocado and tomato on toast was especially good.
We can’t say enough good things about this little gem and wouldn’t dream of staying anywhere else if we went back to Budapest

This hotel is a lovely boutique hotel. The room was very cosy and decorated to a great standard. The bistro in the hotel has some great food, and you must try the wines. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The location is great for walking around the castle and you can easily catch the no. 16 bus to get the Pest side of the river.

Excellent location - easy walking distance to sights in Buda and to the bus service. Small stylish hotel - the room was well laid out and had every facility (except no BBC World Service on the TV - everywhere else but not from the UK). The innovative Internet radio was a great idea. The restaurant was excellent for both dinner and breakfast.

What a great spot! We loved being in an historic bldg... beautifully redone. It is easy to get around on public transportation. If your bags are heavy, stay on the first floor so you only have to climb one flight of stairs...no elevator and narrow stairs. Staff helpful but not overly friendly.

First class location at Buda side of the city.

The location of the hotel is first class, it is at the Buda side of town and it is just 3 minute walk to the Fisherman’s Bastion & St Matthias Church. At an exorbitant price, the food at Pest-Buda bistro & Pest-Buda terrace cafe food was just OK, nothing special. There is no kettle in the room, you will have to live with hot water from the nespresso machine. The room is not sound proof, during the night you can hear people talking from the Bistro below and in the morning you can hear the delivery man making his delivery. Other than that, the view outside the window is just amazing, calm and tranquille. I love the location. It is far from Vaci Utca shopping area in Pest side of the city but bus no 16 comes every 6 minutes in front of the grocery store and will take you from Buda side to the Pest side of the city. Another plus point, i love the small grocery store, it has everything you need and it sells fresh bread and pastries in the morning!

Lovely Stay in the Castle District

Hotel was situated in a lovely area with easy walking distance to the castle, Fisherman’s Bastion and Funicular. Our room (11) was on the first floor (no lift), overlooking the main street and was clean and spacious. We found the bed a bit too hard for our taste and our air con unit a bit noisy but we enjoyed the coffee pod machine.
We ate at the restaurant downstairs twice. Both meals were tasty, albeit more expensive than other restaurants in the area.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the room was spacious and clean. The bed was hard as bricks and the location of the room meant that it was a little noisy. There was no elevator which was no problem for us. The AC was on it's own time frame which was a huge bummer at almost 90 degree heat.

Beautiful boutique hotel and rooms. Check-in and check-out took too long, and receptionist always seemed frazzled. Location is on Castle Hill (Buda side) which is quiet in the afternoon and evening after the tourists leave. Castle Hill is more expensive than the Pest side and limited options to eat. Overall, it’s a beautiful hotel with unique, clean rooms but I would only stay for 1 night and spend rest of your nights on the Pest side.

Wonderful Boutique Hotel & Restaurant

We had a wonderful stay at the Pest-Buda Hotel in the gorgeous castle district! We were able to find parking just across the street - paid for to the hotel upon checking out for the amount of time we were in the castle district. We were easily able to walk down into Buda & Pest from the hotel - and the views when doing so are amazing! We had dinner at the restaurant one night and the food was excellent! We would stay at the Pest-Buda hotel again!

Hotel in the heart of Buda Castle

Fantastic time had and this is a stunning hotel. One of the original hotels for Budapest. Staff were superb and helpful in all manner of ways. Recommendations, directions and organising tours. The room was superb. Spacious, excellent bathroom and a separate toilet which was a luxury. Be aware no lifts due to age of building, but staff help with the luggage up the stairs. Restaurant was very nice and staff were engaging and humourous. Highly recommend this place. Book it.

Beautiful Boutique Hotel, Great Location

This place is fantastic in the best location in Buda-Pest. This area is by far the nicest area in the city. The rooms are fantastic, the employees were great, excellent restaurant; actually the owners group owns many really nice restaurants in the area. We had the top floor room and it was amazing.

Truly charming. My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights while in Budapest this December, and few hotels have made me as happy as this one. First and foremost, the hotel is spotless, and the service was wonderful. Secondarily, the design is delightful, quirky, and contemporary, and the while small like most European hotels, it was perfectly comfortable for my husband and i. There were wonderful bath products (L’Occitane); the bistro on the first floor was exceptional; and it was in a historic area that wasn’t overwhelmed with tourists, but was still filled with great restaurants and pubs. (But it was still quiet enough to sleep at night.). I can’t recommend it highly enough.

At peace on the Var in Budapest at "Pest-Buda"

everything about this small hotel was very satisfactory. our room (32) was exceptional with a lovely
private roof terrace. the bed was the most comfortable we have ever experienced (including our
own at home bed). the bedroom was also very quiet and had good light insulation.
only negative was the absence of a lift and room 32 is on the third floor!

We stayed in the suite. It was beautiful. Highly recommended and breakfast was delicious. Nice to be in Buda to get away from hustle and bustle but not too far(20 min walk downhill). BP in general is a fantastic city. Lovely food. Great bars. Very clean.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights and had a wonderful experience. The hotel only has 10 rooms which was nice because it was quiet after a long day of trekking around. The restaurant was very cute, we had a meal here and coffee on evening, great service and food. The hotel has been renovated and has a modern look to it but still has the feel of an old building. The rooms are a very good size for European rooms and the location is great on the hill next to the castle and a couple other great restaurants. There is a bus station close by that takes you down the hill and to the metro stations. Make sure to take transportation to your hotel for the first time when you have your luggage. The hill to the castle is quite steep to walk. I would recommend this place to the traveler wanting a quite and classy hotel after a long day of touring Budapest.
