The Mayflower is a secret gem hidden in plain sight (if you look at the shell you'll miss the pearl inside). The rooms are immaculately clean, and done very tastefully with hardwood floors to accentuate it all. The bathrooms and showers appear to be newly renovated. The only addition I'd recommend is to add boiled eggs to the continental breakfast offerings. I had an amazing stay and the place was quiet so a great night's sleep which is most important.

The outside of the building gives a Bates Motel vibe.
The \"heat\" and \"air conditioning\" were a space heater and a box fan.
I had to flush the toilet twice every time I used it to make it actually flush.
The refrigerator, microwave and coffeemaker were all stacked in the closet.

The only problem is the location. I didn’t realize that it’s at the far edge of the city next to highways and that there are no stores or conveniences anywhere nearby. I had a long walk just to go to a gas station variety store. There is no grocery store or restaurant within walking distance. For what I spent on Ubers to and from downtown, I should have just spent the money on a nice hotel room near the Capitol.

Very limited check in and out windows. Never saw a single employee my entire stay. Checked in the late evening via a ring camera (as well as checkout around 8am) to get my pin for the room, no deadbolt on door, no towels to use for showering. Whole property unsupervised without staff anywhere which also made it feel unsafe.

Not worth the cost savings!

Loud highway noise. Room was too warm, and we had no way to adjust temperature ourselves. The front desk person said he'd adjust it for us, but we still were sweating all night. Bed bounced and creaked loudly at the slightest movement. Pillows on bed were very dense and uncomfortable. All of these things contributed to the worst night of sleep we've ever experienced in a hotel. Bright spot lights on ceiling pointed at our faces when lying in bed, no dim bedside lighting. Hot and cold water reversed at bathroom sink. Shampoo was empty in shower. There was barely enough room for two of us to stand in the micro \"lobby\" with its Ring camera setup to summon a staff member and bulletproof glass to check in through. Large potholes in driveway/parking lot. And there was a vehicle left running with its driver's door standing open, in a no parking spot, positioned like someone had just dumped it there after stealing it. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

There appears to be multiple families living full-time in this facility. There is zero sound insulation and I could hear every sound even four rooms down the hall. The room next-door had a number of people partying, loud music, standing outside smoking and taking up parking spaces. My room was clean, well appointed and comfortable, but the amount of noise was overwhelming even with earplugs.

Great clean stay

We checked in later in the day. The lady was so nice who checked us in. It’s an older motel so outside is outdated. But don’t at all let it stop you from staying. Price was great, stay way great too. Beds were comfy and clean. Tv worked great, USB plug in by bed. Mini fridge and microwave clean. Close to the freeway. Toilet was kind of close to the ground if your disabled in any way and chair was questionable if your bigger.

I booked this to pay at hotel when i check in. I get there to check in they say they try to call me that my credit card didnt go through (lost wallet, new cards), when i didnt pick up (i dont answer unknown numbers, they didnt leave a message) they gave my room away! They did put me up in one of their other locations, but it was a very inconvenient location compared to the othe one for us. The room was clean, but no frills at all. Could hear noise all night from adjacent rooms and the hallway. Think there were drugs being sold in the parking lot. Breakfast area was not being kept up during the breakfast and looked disgusting. The biscuits and gravy were cold. Not really any grab and go options. Definitely not worth the price of these rooms.

I wasn't happy about checking in. I was contacted via text message about my room number and code to get in. I prefer face to face service. The people staying or living there were creepy. We didn't sleep too well. We got woke up in the middle of the night to some odd music and the cooking of meat. Once morning hit, we got out of there. The inside definitely looked better than the outside.

Solid, affordable stay

This was a clean, no frills but solid, extremely affordable motel stay. There’s ample free parking, a very friendly desk person, and large mini fridges in the rooms. There’s also Roku tv and the water pressure is decent! There were no thermostats in our rooms, however we were comfortable during our one night stay. The beds, pillows and linens were clean and comfortable. There was a coffee maker and a good amount of outlets in our room too.

Property was absolutely falling apart. Shower head was broken in the room as well as couple other items. I was very disappointed because room smelled like cigarette smoke and mold really bad. Unfortunately my child is severely allergic to that smell so we had to leave right away. I informed upfront desk that room was supposed to be nonsmoking room and they couldn’t help us with it. They told me that they charged my card already and not planning to help us. We had to drive around and find a different hotel. It was absolutely waste of money and we were extremely disappointed. The fact that their rooms ripped with cigarette smoke and they advertised as nonsmoking rooms is unbelievable! If I knew that I would never book room in that hotel. My first time booking with Expedia :(

They didn’t even provide the address properly and It was very tough to get into their other branch hotel finally. I was literally harassed at midnight .

Having read the reviews I was approaching my stay here with mixed feelings.
The lady on reception was very helpful with my arrival as I was planning to arrive early and she provided me with options to leave it whilst I attended what I needed to. When I arrived back that evening my bags were already in my room waiting for me. Each morning we were provided with a basic contential breakfast but for me enough to start my day. My room was cozy and clean; have no complaints about that.
The air con was cold and I could find the panel to adjust this but that might have juat been me being stupid.
All in all really enjoyed my stay and would stay here again if ever in Madison

I didn’t know I was gonna be staying at the bates motel, this place was underwhelming to say the least, but whatever it’s just one night right, wrong.

You pull up to the place, very unimpressive, but the price seemed fair, considering the other options available at the time.

The owner/manager, not the most friendly, but that’s ok. Then you get to the room, hard wood floors, that’s nice, but there is this strong smell that just fills up your nose, you can’t put your finger on it, what it is.

I was going to just try stick it out but it was just so hard to breath in there, it wouldn’t go away. I sat there for about two and a half hours before I couldn’t take it any more, and had to leave.

I checked out and went and stayed at another hotel, please do yourself a favor and don’t stay here!!!

Honestly, not worth the price we paid. The outside and inner building doors were a nice surprise. But for non-smoking rooms, you could tell somewhere in the building people were smoking, as the venting all seemed intertwined since there was no individual thermostats in the rooms and the air came from one place above the closet in the room. Sheets hadnt been changed as there was weird dirt on the fitted sheet. Oh, and i was a bit tangled in that \"fitted sheet\" in the morning since it was actually just a flat sheet laid over the mattress protector. Small room for a king bed, closet had the fridge, mixrowave and coffee maker in it as keeping those items in the room itself would have taken up too much space. The breakfast offerred in the morning contained a bunch of bruised or really ripe fruit, and the employee i saw going in and out of the laundry room kept drinking the coffee, so there was none when i went to get some. Someone, who i assumed was the manager, text me just before 3 asking what time i was planning to arrive, not sure why since i hadnt not shown up or anything and my understanding was check in was to start at 3 or 4... kind of a hole in the wall place, really dont think it was worth $115.

Worst hotel experience EVER

The worst hotel experience of my life. Bugs crawling around the bed, fresh bodily fluids INSIDE the bed sheets. Not enough towels for all guests to shower and no one available to bring more until tomorrow at 9am . Heat you could not turn down. I was sweating in the room wearing shorts and t-shirt. Ended up leaving the ground level door open, even though it was 2 degrees outside because the window wouldn't open, and it was too hot without the door open.
Dirty. Insect infested.
We ended up leaving 1 hour after arriving. I complained to the hotel AND to hotels.com. I was never refunded the money.

Fine if all you need is a place to sleep.

I only needed a hotel to lay my head down at night since I was working an event with 12 hour days all week. The bed was clean, it got made every day and towels changed. There were tiny gnat-like bugs in the towels, and crickets on the floor of the motel in my room. The room was also VERY dark, lights were not at all bright. And the mini fridge was not plugged in, so my roommate had a bunch of food go bad.

We needed a place to sleep and this worked. The check in involved a remote bell ringer who did not know of us coming. She figured it out quickly but it was a bit complex. A bedside light and a hook in the bathroom would add a lot to a serviceable room. If I were a single woman traveling, I would have felt a bit uncomfortable due to 2 doors accessing the room and low exterior lighting.

This is a hidden jewel

This is a fine family owned hotel. Those who travel often know that budget hotels are a hit or miss proposition. Not this one. It is well worth the money. A person can go down the road and pay twice or thrice and get a bit more polish but will not leave any more satisfied. I have across country put up with many irritations in budget choices but will not complain about the Mayflower. You can tell its family owned as they value keeping your business. I recommend this place wholeheartedly.

I was greeted by a very friendly, helpful gentleman. The check in process was quick and easy. The building is an older one, but appears to be kept up very well. We checked in around 4 pm and found that the walls are rather thin as we were trying to nap before a concert and the neighbors had their TV on and it felt like it was in our room and turned on full volume. We returned later around 12:30 am and, again, the neighbor could be heard coughing like he was in the room with us. At 5:00 am, he again turned his TV on, so that ended our sleep for the night. He had a lot of visits to his room between 5-8 am, which was also bothersome. Sometime in there, he got on the phone and very loudly argued with someone for what seemed like hours on and off. It was mildly entertaining. When we went to leave, he came outside and watched/talked to us the entire time we were loading up our car. He hit on my daughter and myself and then when we turned him down, he proceeded to ask if I had other daughters. We were happy to get out of there.

Friendly staff, clean room and building. Everything worked. Comfortable inside temperature even with 5 degree outside weather. Family run Mexican restaurant across the street with good traditional food. Internet service was good, and plenty of parking. Continental breakfast was good, with weekend additions. Long-term residents were very friendly. Like a community. Costs less than a room at the local hostel, with more services and cleanliness. A short drive from the university.

I liked that the property was on one level. But wasnt handicap accessible. My sister had a walker and had a very difficult time getting up the 3 steps into the building. The heat was on quite high and was not adjustable. No one on the property to help. My daughter called the number on the webpage but it was a different location. The lady from that location called my cell phone to try and help. She said to pull the chain on the wall furnace to close it and to open a window. The window had a storm window on it so i was not able to open it. The floor was dirty. When i walked around in my socks i could feel the pieces of dirt.
The lady that checked me in was very nice. Very apologetic because the computers weren't working fast. I personally didn't think it took all that long.
