When we arrived there was no record for us staying there, moved to a hotel with same name-same result! Next day we went back and were told everything was fine and reimbursed with a day extra for the one lost. Getting warm showers is hard to get there. Staff was otherwise friendly and the breakfast buffet good.

Staff very helpful and pleasant, decent breakfast, room could have been cleaner, furnishings old and worn, worst thing (which is of course not under the hotel’s control) was the endless very loud street noise, even right through the night. This made it impossible for me to sleep so after two nights I was so exhausted I moved to another hotel even though I had paid in advance for a week. I know this is in no way the fault of the hotel but I have to be able to sleep!

Greeted by a very rude obnoxious boss, after “arranging” airport drop off via email prior to arrival was then told that it’s not possible at all to get a lift to the airport.
Not sure why you would reply yes in email then say no in person, especially when the customer is happy to pay.
Final billing amount was different to what was quoted, didn’t realise the price quoted and held against credit card only applied for cash payments and that to pay on card it would cost more.
Room was loud and housekeeping phone in hallway went off several times before 8am.
Wouldn’t stay again.

The crepes at breakfast were good, otherwise everything else was really disappointing, especially given the price. The rooms were old and smelly, the beds were uncomfortable, it was really noisy at night and the whole vibe of the place was off. Maybe my expectations were too high, but after reading the reviews we were hoping for more.

I really liked the service from all the friendly and wonderful people working there. I didnt like that i had to pay for ky coke drinks at breakfast when everyone else got free drinks. I also didnt like that they didnt have an elevator and we had to walk up three flights of stairs.

Although the hotel is need of some redecoration, the staff were incredibly good, they were attentive, helpful and exceedingly welcoming. I will certainly stay there again. As I said the hotel could with some upgrading, but DO NOT change the staff.

Fantastic for the price but check closely

The first thing to remember is the price, which is extremely modest compared to the typical hotels I stay when traveling for work. In that context, this place is super great. The location is perfect for tourists and trekkers, the room was spacious, the service impeccable and even the breakfast was surprisingly good considering the cost. However, the place does not live up to its name so if your expectations are set right, this place is highly recommended. If you expect a \"typical\" business hotel then you will find the place old and a bit dodgy.

Good location in Thamel, close enough to walk to Durber Square and the Garden of Dreams, with lots of restaurants and knock-off shopping. The rooms are definitely better than the two other places I’ve stayed at in Thamel. Good value. Rooftop has no nice view, but it is a quiet escape from the hubbub of Kathmandu.

Hotel Kathmandu Grand is on a very good location for those who come here to enjoy the Nepal's culture, window shopping, café and street food, it is far away from visiting spots, otherwise hotel staff not at all helpful,#104 shower not working properly, food is okayish, property manager is not keen to come and listen the customer.

Staff and Management go out of their way to make sure that they meet your needs and beyond. After 6 days, the hotel felt like it was home. I cannot find anything I can fault them with, except that their food is edible but not the best in town. The hotel is out of the busy streets and yet access to the whole of Thamel is so easy.

A Good Choice

This hotel is located at the northern edge of the Thamel with easy access to the main road 100 meters north. Most of the taxi and tour operators can find this hotel. This part of the Thamel is quiet compared to further south. This hotel has several levels and a wonderful sitting area on the top deck. The morning breakfast is very good with a nice selection of eggs, bacon and drinks. The staff is always helpful. Bring a couple of towels with you. Take time to have the tea and coffee every afternoon in the lobby. If you face the street side of the hotel you will get some yelling and noise during the night. Ask for a room at the back of the property.

Arrival went well, picked up from airport as promised which was awesome. We were lucky to have our room upgraded free of charge. Room was clean with free wifi and hot water. Staff were overly helpful ensuring our time in Nepal was well spent and we were looked after. Good location for shopping and access to ATM's. Planned excursions delivered as promised and affordable from hotel. Recommend mountain flight as it was our highlight. Overall happy with our choice to stay at The Kathmandu Grand Hotel.

Nice quiet place in Thamel.

Room is clean and comfortable. Had heat which certainly helps in winter here. Plenty of hot water. I was on 4th floor. Nice and quiet, no street noise. Staff helpful in arranging things without being pushy. Breakfast buffet with egg station cooked to order. Only complaint is only coffee was instant. Easy to go out and get coffee elsewhere.

Cold, moldy and no hot water

The hot water was not working in the showers and the staff kept saying that it would be fixed within 2 hours. 48 hours later still no hot water so we checked our. Rooms were cold, corridors loud, and bathrooms moldy. Would not recommend.

Great staff and management. Very good value in an excellent location. Buffet breakfast enjoyable. English is well spoken by most staff. Rooms clean and we enjoyed the tea making facilities - didn't have to shower and leave the room for that early morning cuppa.

Pretty nice hotel in a great location

This hotel was in close proxicimity (walking distance) to great tourist attractions, shopping and restaurant ants. The hotel staff was very accommodating as well:) No complaints except for the excessive mud due to work being done on the underground water pipes in front of the hotel, but that should be cleared up within the next coming weeks.

The hotel is good but the roads leading to the hotel were in very bad shape. It was with great difficulty that the taxi reach the hotel. The staff was very soft spoken, gentle and co-operative, but there was foul smell in the toilet. Overall, if the smell in the toilet can be checked and controlled and the roads are repaired in time, then the hotel is worth its money.

I think the hotel should have mentioned in on their site that the roads leading to the hotel are in very very bad shape.

The hotel is located within walking distance of the busy Thamel area, well more accurately you are right in the middle of everything. The rooms were surprising quiet considering how crazy Thamel is. You can easily walk to restaurants, shops, cafes, bars and travel agents to book all sorts of activities. The staff were friendly, luggage storage options are also available. The price was great, considering how comfortable the rooms were, great hot showers - very welcomed after long treks in the Himalayas and wifi was strong. We would strongly recommend this hotel as its just simply so well located and comfortable.

My favorite family atmosphere hotel

I loved my stay here! I felt like I was part of a family. They welcomed me, helped me feel safe as a solo traveler, and were eager to accommodate whatever I needed to feel comfortable. I got to know most of the staff pretty well and felt like they were respectful of my space, but interested in my experience as a customer and visitor to Nepal. They took great care of me! The room was great, routinely cleaned. The food is awesome, especially the breakfast and room service. My favorite part was ordering roomservice on the rooftop balcony, I felt like a queen! They also picked me up from the hotel, kept water replenished in my room, offered help when I needed to get around, and the security guard even helped me find an authentic Kukuri for my dad! I was at this hotel for ten days and then went to another hotel for four days that was twice the price and by far not even half as nice as the Kathmandu Grand Hotel. I consider myself lucky to have had such an amazing experience in Kathmandu, and such a significant part of that is because of my comfort, safety, and happiness at this hotel. I'll never forget it!

When arriving for the first time to Kathmandu I was warmly greeted by the staff at Kathmandu Grand Hotel. The rooms are fantastic, food delicious, and the staff were courteous and very helpful. Since this was my first time in Nepal, and I needed to plan my trip to Everest Base Camp, it was very nice not having to worry about accommodation. After coming back from my trek I was greeted not as a guest but as a friend. I had some time left in Nepal, so the staff were more than helpful in organizing a trip to Chitwan. I would highly recommend to stay here and use the services of Shiva and his helpful staff.

A simple budget hotel

A simple budget hotel in the heart of Katmandu, good size rooms and clean. Plenty of restaurants and shops at the doorstep. This is a good base for exploring.

However I did not get picked up from the airport as requested and had to find my own way in the crazy traffic of Kathmandu. The Hotel said the driver was waiting, but I looked for about an hour without any success.

Still... considering the location and price, this is very good value for a simple place to stay.

When we first arrived we learned that they couldn't accommodate our confirmed reservation so we were put up across the street and promised \"the best room\" the following day. That room wS very cramped but nice. We asked for something larger and they obliged us.
Breakfasts were great and the staff were are quite cheerful and helpful. The area is bustling with shops and restaurants.
Other guests were loud in the hallways but perhaps it is just a case of sound travelling.

Hotel was in a great location. Shops, restaurants and bars within walking distance. Dinner from the hotel restaurant was delicious, but the breakfast was not that great. The hotel description says there is bar/lounge but there was no bar. You can order drinks while eating in the hotel restaurant. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. I traveled with another female and we felt safe/comfortable staying here

A great hotel in Thamel Area

I stayed in Kathmandu Grand Hotel for 3 days upon my arrival in Kathmandu and 2 days before leaving Nepal. Friendly and helpful staff, Clean rooms with hot water and free Wifi, Great buffet breakfast with an eggs station. Excellent location close to restaurants/bars/shopping. a big thank you goes out to Pramod Khanal for helping me with arranging my daily tours in Kathmandu and my trips to Pokhara, Lumbini and Chitwan national Park. Definitely recommend this hotel.

Not a good experience

We did not have a good experience in this hotel. The rooms are not well furnished, can be cleaner, the towels are not white, the breakfast selection is limited and the quality of breakfast is not that good, and the car for airport pickup is very bad.
The only two good things about this hotel is the wonderful staff and good location.

When you arrive in Kathmandu for the first time ever, you will want someone at the airport holding a sign with your name on it. Kathmandu Grand Hotel will arrange for this, taking all the stress out. We also recommend the concierge service that can arrange for trekking or any kind of your or guide service that you may require. Highly recommend!

Fantastic hotel

Great hotel in a great location! Free airport pick up, free wifi and good breakfast selection - especially the omelettes cooked to order by the nice young chef! Customer service was excellent. They looked free our luggage free of charge while we went trekking and were extremely helpful and accommodating when we returned feeling slightly unwell. Fantastic staff and the nicest security guard in Kathmandu on the front door! Only tip, spend a few extra dollars as the bigger rooms offer so much more. Would highly recommend a stay.

This is a nice hotel in Thamel close to lots of good restaurants. The breakfast buffet is very good. I was upgraded to a suite which was very nice. The hotel does not have a lift but the staff will help you carry your bags up the stairs. There is free wifi, room service and a nice lobby.

we had arranged by phone 1 day before arrival for the free airport pick up but nobody showed up. We phoned the hotel but nobody could tell us what happen and in the end it cost us 900 INrs for phone and taxi charges to get ourselves to the hotel. Once there they apologized and promised a free shuttle service to the airport but since we traveled to Pokhara this was of no use to us. In the end the gave us a free 5 minute ride to the local Bus stop. Also be aware the Tour and Travel manager will add a hefty surcharge for any travel our tour bookings you make with him and he always tries to sell you the most expensive options. It is much cheaper to book any tickets or tours with any of the local travel agencies of which there are many in Thamel. The WIFI is very slow and many times not usable.
Otherwise the hotel is in a good location and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

Great location! Comfortable stay - friendly staff.

Situated in the heart of Thamel with many stores and Resturants close by. The Kathmandu Durbar square is walking distance from the hotel. The rooms were basic but comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful and this made my stay very enjoyable. I booked tours ( car and driver ) for sightseeing through the Hotel for two days. This was handled very efficiently. Overall, an enjoyable stay.
