This place was a Mom & Pop operation with a very familial atmosphere. Ken and Ise were very welcoming and helpful with helping us get settled, finding our way around Nikko and just generally friendly and helpful. If you're interested in a more homey atmosphere vs. Corporate hotel this is the place for you

Older lodge located about a mile from the train station. Quiet and peaceful neighborhood. The room was a good size but definitely outdated in furniture and decor. The communal sitting area was nice and offered hot water for tea. Dinner is served nightly for an additional cost but I did not partake. No shoes are worn inside the building.

There were giant Japanese carpenter ants everywhere in the dining area, crawling around the sugar bowl, running up and down the carafe of maple syrup, it was insane. I’ve never seen ants that big, dozens of them. The only shower is a public bath that looked like it had never been cleaned. I took a shower in the morning and there was bath water in the bath with an iridescent film and dead bugs floating on it (perhaps a result of people staying who don’t know Japanese bath ettiequte? Or perhaps the bath water hadn’t been changed nor the bath cleaned in ages). Fortunately the door did lock so I was able to have a quick private shower, but I noticed that there was a large amount of mold flecks all over the wooden ceiling. The towel provided was just a wash cloth. The bed, however was clean and very comfortable and the curtains did a good job of shutting out the light. I was lucky to be the only one staying in the dormitory but I imagine it would have felt private even if I wasn’t. Loud music was played in the common area until around 10pm, and it seemed to be a sixty minute playlist on repeat, I heard the same songs a few times. The staff was very polite and attentive, they were the primary good feature of this lodging. The breakfast served was delicious despite the ants. I left a back up battery in the dorms and tried to reach the hotel 3 ways (Facebook, their website, and by phone from my next hotel) and was unable to get a response so I’ve written it off as lost for good.

Nice and quiet hotel. Very friendly and accommodating staff. They provided a shuttle service from their other location, which is next to the train station they even gave us a hitch to the reason station even though we decided to walk. There English was good, as well. The room was a good size and the bed was huge and comfortable. Very homely atmosphere. We would definitely stay here again.

Cheap place to stay in an expensive area

The place was decent enough for staying in, but felt very much like an American overload hostel. I'm aware that it was also a hostel, as well as a lodge, but it felt a little off to me.

The hosts seemed nice enough, but didn't really seem to interested in our business. I noticed some other travellers arrived \"too late\" to order dinner, and so could not be served at 7pm when they arrived about 30 minutes after the 5pm deadline. Crazy in my opinion, to not accept money for a very basic and not that great meal!

Room was a little small and a bit old and rundown for my taste, but you get what you pay for up a mountain I guess.

Overall, the place could be alright for your stay, but it definitely wasn't for me.

This is a small, cosy place, slightly out of the centre of Nikko town (20-25 mins walk from Nikko station). Really friendly staff, would recommend as a comfortable base for exploring Nikko!

A little out of town but the cheapest option

This is a hostel so brace for a lot of people and little space and noise, especially in the dorm. There is only 1 bathroom for an entire floor and it is small. If you can afford a private room, always go that option. I was on the bottom and felt the bed move as the person above me breathed. The duvet and bed are comfy, for a hostel. For a hostel, however it is nice and cozy and the owners are very nice and try to accommodate. The meal options are quite good and home cooked.

Staff was friendly and helpful, however room only had 1 big towel for 2 people, had dust all over, and you can hear neighbor room noises all the time. Breakfast was tasty and cheap! Located in the middle of nowhere.

Nice family run hostel

The best part about this place is the staff. They are friendly and accommodating. Everyone speaks English. They offered to hold our bags before and after check in. They gave us a ride to and from the station. They gave excellent advice on the sights around Nikko, walking paths and directions with maps. The breakfast was good and the location was quiet. The hard beds were not great.

Hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful. Nice, homely lodge with fireplace, adorable dog, comfortable dining area. Bedroom was comfortable, and a decent size. WiFi worked well. Location was very scenic and peaceful, but I would not recommend walking from the station as we did. It is possible, but far more hilly than Google Maps would have you believe. Hosts gave us a lift back to the station without us even asking. We were very happy with our stay.

Just ok for one night

Our room had a strong mold smell, almost unbearable. Very noisy due to poor insulation. Staff was friendly overall. The hotel is in a remote location but a staff member was friendly enough to give us a lift to the fall and took us downtown later on. Breakfast was plentiful and good. We wouldn't stay there again due to the smelly room and the noise. We had to figure out by ourselves how to turn the heating system and the TV (no instructions in English). Beds were just ok.

Rustic charm

Nikko Park Lodge Mountainside is very different from most other Japanese places we stayed in (usual hotels and Ryokans). It's more like an English B&B insofar as there's a communal lounge with cosy fireplace and the decorations and furnishing are more European Op shop in look.The service however was excellent and the location beautiful and quiet. The owners transported our bags from and back to the town which helped as the lodge is about a 20 minute walk from the station. The breakfasts were cheap and plentiful and the rooms quiet and cosy with TV that had English speaking channels. Walking to the main shrines was easy and picturesque. More shabby than chic but a very good option for not much money.

An excellent choice.

Hotel staff was very friendly, hotel was tidy and clean, very comfortable, and had a bit of a rustic feel to it, without being old and grimy. The bunks are very large, I'm 6'1\", and there was no length issues in the dorm, lots of very comfortable blankets, and a reasonably large common and dining area. The hotel is a little bit tricky to find, though they also own the hotel closer to the train station, and a shuttle sometimes runs from there. The location is very quiet and peaceful, and I would definitely stay here again if I were ever back in Nikko. The only downside to me is the washrooms weren't great, but they weren't bad, either.

Good, but common dormitory rather noisy

I stayed in the hostel for 2 nights in a shared dormitory. It was October. First night I could enjoy the dormitory all for myself, however, the noise coming out from the reception was disturbing. The staff rooms were located in another building cutting the dormitory so I struggled with cold air and noise quite a lot. The staff was one the other hand very friendly and it was nice to get a free ride to the train station. If someone is going there, I recommend to book a private room.

The Nikko Park Lodge was very nice! The owners spoke fluent English and because I was by myself for this trip, I was really grateful for that! They were very kind to me and the teriyaki chicken that I ate there was really delicious! I really enjoyed my stay at the Nikko Park Lodge!

Very relaxing

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I went for the location and enjoyed the company of the warm staff and chit-chatting with other guest. The location is near some trails, so it is very beautiful. It reminds me of a log cabin in the woods and I did nothing but relax during my stay. It is near two onsens as well, so further relaxation ensued. And an added plus, the staff speaks english very well. Give them a try and enjoy yourself.

As the buidling is located on the hillside, finding the hotel can be a bit tricky, especially at night. But we were fully rewarded as we entered the comfy lounge area with its open fireplace. Food was a great - a sophisticated blend of Japanese and Western cuisine. Rooms are well within Japanese standards, meaning that for a European perception they appear a bit tiny. The owner was very helpful in giving us a lift back to the station where we could store our luggage at his sister hotel. All in all a great retreat of European flair.

More of a homey style BnB. With it's quaint bed spread, and out-dated styling. The staff were friendly and helpful and the value for money was great. We paid about $10 for a taxi from the station, but without luggage it was an easy enough walk to/from town. On our day of departure we got a free shuttle to town and left our luggage at the Park Lodge opposite the station (also for free).

Since we arrived after 5 PM we had to walk to the lodge (~25 min). The lodge is a bit run down, compared to the hotels we had booked before. The owner was friendly and spoke well English, though. The owner drove us to town the next day and we could store our luggage at the hotel close to the trainstation free of charge.

Super friendly clean inn in a great city. As women travelers, we felt b welcomed by the extremely knowledgable couple that own the place. They speak great English and give great advice. They had great vegan and meat food. We found the simple rooms clean and adequate. There's a great hot spring up the road. You can take the shuttle from their other lodge across from the trail station? Nice open lobby to hang out in. Recommended!

La casa de huéspedes es atendida muy amablemente por sus dueños, hablan inglés y te tratan con gran hospitalidad. Los alimentos para desayuno o cena son deliciosos y a un precio adicional. Las camas bien y la ropa súper limpia. Tienen un baño japonés tradicional, interesante.

Et fint ophold til prisen og smuk beliggenhed

Det var et fint ophold. Stedet ligger ca. 20 minutter fra stationen til fods. Smukke omgivelser med bjerge og floder. Mulighed for at købe morgenmad, aftensmad og vist også frokost på stedet. Jeg fik morgenmad og aftensmad under hele opholdet og det smagte lækkert. Der var ret koldt, men der var både et varmetæppe og varmeblæser på værelset.
Det eneste minus var renligheden på værelset. Det kunne være bedre. Overflader var støvede og gulvet ligeledes.

客室に、カメムシが20匹騒いでおり最悪でした。部屋中の匂いがとれなかったです。またロフトに上がる際の階段がぐらついており、何度か転倒しました。共用の男性トイレは、床がぬけていました。共用のシャワー室はヘッドがとれておりホースのみで身体を洗いました。口コミにあった近くの入浴施設に行きましたが小さい施設のため、混雑しておりチケットを購入し待ちましたが、結局入れなかったです。チケット代が損しました。
これでは、民宿に泊まればよかったと思いました。せっかくの旅行なのに、泊まる場所が最悪で家族一同嫌な思いのまま帰宅します。換気も出来ず清潔感もなくカビくさい印象でした。お値段がリーズナブルでもなかったです。

ちょっと古そうな建物ですが中はきちんと清掃されていて居心地は良かったです
宿泊にあまりお金をかけたくなかったので
ここを選びましたが室内の注意事項等が英語表記で
海外からのお客がメインのところだと後で気づきました。素泊まりの私にはちょうど良かったです

Majoitus oli pettymys. Henkilökunta osasi erinomaisesti englantia, mutta palvelusta jäi silti kovin epämääräinen kuva. Huone oli pintapuolisesti siisti mutta tunkkainen, vessanpönttö vuotava ja lorisi jatkuvasti.

Aamiainen oli todella huono. Osa ruokalajeista (pekoni, makkarat) olivat jääkaappikylmiä, näiden vierellä oli syömäkelvotonta makaronisalaattia, huoneenlämpöinen riisipallo ja pieni munakas. Aamiaisessa ei ollut mitään japanilaista muistuttavaakaan En pääsääntöisesti kritisoi ravintoloissakaan ruokaa mutta tämä oli täysin ala-arvoinen suoritus.

駅からちょっと歩くけれど、自然の中にあり清々しい空気感があります。
また、８人部屋でしたが他に泊り客もいなかったので独り占めして使わせて頂きました。
近くに源泉掛け流しの温泉があるのもお薦めのポイントです！
また、日光に来た際は利用させていただきたいと思います。
