Great hotel full of character. Next to the river and a short walk into the main town. Parking available at the back of the hotel. Staff were great, always friendly. Rooms differ from modern to very old. Rates are reasonable and the breakfast delightful. Have stayed here many times always good.

Check-in was easy. The room was at the far end of the hotel despite low occupancy. The property was a little tired but the rooms were comfortable, beds and shower good too.
Breakfast was good.
Be aware that there is a £5 charge for parking that we were not advised of at check in . This surprise was announced at check out the next day

Booked and paid last year for room with king bed. Didnt get that. No explanation why from staff. Room was in old part with no ventilation and double bed that needed to be replaced years ago. Pillows were terrible. Floors created and shower water got stuck on scalding and needed to be fixed. All over very disappointing stay.

Hotel is lovely with a great setting on the river, staff were very helpful and friendly, breakfast was first class, as was the Evening meal, did feel that the tables in the restaurant were a bit dated so a cloth to cover the table would have made it look so much nicer, I appreciate that the building is very old and had I known how noisy it was going to be I would have asked for an upstairs room, you could hear every step because the floorboards were very creaky and none of room doors had a soft close mechanism so there was constant door banging, it would also have been helpful if all guests could be reminded to be considerate by keeping the noise down when returning to there rooms late at night on the information sheet in the room.

Having said all that it is a beautiful place in a great location and I will definitely be returning in a few months.

Lovely hotel in a wonderful location. Don't be put off by it's roadside position. The rooms are located at the rear of the hotel, with stunning views overlooking the river and Abbey. Our room had french doors out on to the riverside. Super friendly and courteous staff. Look forward to staying again

Our quiet ground floor room was plenty big enough with comfortable beds and a partial view to the river. There were some issues with lights and plumbing which were partly sorted. The staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good with plenty of hot and cold options. The cooked menu was a bit bit limited for vegetarians/vegans. It takes around 15 minutes to walk to the cathedral and another 10 to get into the town. Overall we were happy and would stay there again.

The room was nice .. an authentic old experience. The floors where uneven which is normal for these older buildings however the bed was subsequently on a slant.. making a rest full sleep difficult.. I know the floor cannot be changed but the bed could be level I think.. the bathroom was cleaned to an “ok” level although there where hairs in drain and the soap dispenser carriers where caked with old soap runs.. so a bit of a miss there. The restaurant was “ok” but could also use a deep clean as the courtesy self serve coffee bat machines where very dusty on the top and in plain view.. so not bad overall .. I would probably not return as we had to also change our reservation within 24 hrs of making it but they still charged us an additional 20 pounds to do so.. I could understand if it was busy season but it was winter and the place was empty. Same with the parking and the 5 pound charge which I thought was a bit of a reach..

From the outset, staff were not very friendly. When we booked 2 rooms in June, we requested that one room be accessible for my 97 year old mother-in-law who is in a wheelchair. An email was received advising that the rooms were being redecorated and that one would be available. We phoned prior to arriving to confirm this and found out that the accessible room was allocated to me however this was rectified.
We checked in at 2pm and requested afternoon tea only to be told that 24 hours notice was required (not stated on their website).
Accessible room did not have a stool for the shower -we found one in the other room so, after asking at Reception, moved it to assist my mother-in-law with her washing requirements. This should have been checked beforehand! You cannot use a wheelchair in a shower!
The rooms looked very old, tired and in need of repair so not sure what redecoration had taken place, as told beforehand.
Whilst daily housekeeping is no longer available at this hotel, the supply of tea, coffee, sugar and toilet rolls should be given each day instead of us having to “beg” reception each time (and then we were only given a handful).
Breakfast at the weekend was from 8am however only opened from approximately 8.07am on both days (staff had overslept, we heard). Items were not refilled either so once finished e.g. fruit bowl, not replenished.
Same amount charged for each room however there was a big difference in each.
Overall, disappointing service.

Rose and crown legacy hotel

The room was a good size and had a lovely view over the river. It was about a 15 minute walk into town and has a local corner shop if you need anything. The staff are also friendly and helpful. Our only complaint is that there is always a lot of noise from the surrounding rooms. Also as the rooms below us on the ground floor have patios people tend to sit out until late and can be really noisy.

The location was perfect for Salisbury Cathedral, over a quaint old toll bridge. The restaurant was fabulous with excellent service.
After two attempts, we managed to get a disabled room, which was perfect. Any other room requires at least 2 flights of stairs.

Suitable for our needs, no frills accommodation. Expensive but that seems to be Salisbury hotels!
Bed was extremely comfortable.
Bathroom tired and plug stuck in sink so unusable.
Very stuffy in the room.
A wedding was taking place when we stayed; no parking available and the expected loud music till late.
Lovely gardens to sit by the river with a drink.

What shines for this property is its location, which is quite superb. The room we had was adequate, and clean but quite small. I was very disappointed that for the price there was no safe and refrigerator in the room, i would expect to have these facilities in a 4* hotel. They have allso charged for parking since I last stayed there, and this seemed to me to be very penny-pinching. We booked breakfast at a reduced rate of £12 (normal price over £17) each but even at that price, not value for money, in my opinion. Small detailes spoiled it,like barely warm coffee from the machine and the mixed fruit was still in a semi-frozen state. Again, not something I would expect at the price I paid, and not in a 4* hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Legacy Rose and Crown. The hotel staff at the front desk were really pleasant and helpful. Dinner was delicious with a lovely view of the river at sunset. Breakfast was quite good, with both hot and cold options, however the coffee could have been hotter. The location is a short, pretty walk from Salisbury Cathedral.

This hotel has a lot of potential…..the location is excellent, both in terms of short walk to heart of Salisbury, & also lovely riverside location. However, I have to agree with many previous comments, that it needs so much updating…..tatty decor, ripped dining chairs with stuffing visibly coming out, broken shower shelf, rickety toilet roll & towel holders, towels with holes in etc etc. the staff on reception were ok but not exactly welcoming, except for the lady who checked us out who was very nice. However the staff in the restaurant were lovely & helpful, & the food was also very good, both breakfast & dinner.
I’m sure a lot of the maintenance issues are hindered by lack of funds these days….the hospitality industry is still trying to recover after covid…..however, with this in mind, why were the public area radiators on absolute full blast???…..it was very hot weather for our 2 night stay, & the dining room windows & doors were all opened, yet the radiators were red hot…..such waste!
I dint rate this hotel 4 stars, but it could be worth some work put in. I wouldn’t return as it stands presently.

I only stayed for two nights the room was comfortable and clean with good facilities, tea coffee and even hot chocolate was provided although only one sachet for a twin room ? I didn’t dine at the hotel but was disappointed to be told that I had missed breakfast, the room info stated weekend breakfast was served until 10:30 but on my arrival at the dining room at 10:00 I was told it had finished? My one other gripe would be that when I booked my stay it stated that parking was free but on arrival I was told there would be a £5 per night charge, had I known this I would probably have chosen another hotel.

We stayed in the newer part of the property and it was really nice. We had a room that opened on to the terrace and we were so lucky with the weather. Downside for us was the noise in the building - there was an internal door that didn't have door silencers fitted and it seemed like it was slammed closed day and night by staff and residents. There also didn't seem to be much soundproofing between rooms - we heard every step and movement in the room above us, which not only woke us up but made it difficult to feel comfortable and fully relax. I mentioned this to the reception who were lovely but ultimately, they couldn't do anything as they were fully booked. Just something to consider as whilst the hotel, location and staff were great, we were let down by the noise with the hotel.

LOVED this hotel!

From the outside it had that olde-english look but was well updated inside. Our room was big and had a sofa bed for our kiddo. Bathroom had towel warmers.

Breakfast was fantastic along with great coffee.
Also had dinner in the restaurant and it was very good.

Characterful hotel close to the city centre. Comfortable and well decorated room and good breakfast.
However, there was a very loud party going on under our room which didn't finish until midnight, then there was noise of furniture scraping on the hard floor. Not only was the music so loud that we could clearly identify to songs, but the vibrations went right through us. We were told there was no other room available, nor were we warned when we phoned the hotel the day before that there would be severe disruption the night of our stay.
we were given breakfast as compensation, which was good, but even at breakfast there was music playing too loud! Very disappointing stay.

Great position with so much character.

The hotel oozes character with timbered walls, wonderfully wonky floors and beautiful vaulted ceiling bedrooms. The large bed was very comfy. It was quiet and a pleasant 10-15 min walk mostly through the Cathedral grounds to the city centre. I’d definitely return and wholeheartedly recommend the hotel and it’s friendly staff.

This place did not behave like a 4 star, mostly the staff were unhelpful. eg we asked for afternoon tea in reception and were sent to the dining area where we were told we had to give notice for tea as the chef was not in - and then carried on the conversation we had interrupted. Generally the place was cold and chilly, we know that it was an old heritage building so made some allowance. Having said that the visitor lounge for example was dimly lit with a poor effort of a fire in the grate. Generally the place was dimly lit and poorly heated.
Our room faced on to the road and the associated traffic noise was intrusive.
Our bathroom was cold
The pillows were rock hard lumps of bouncy stuff. We both woke with head and neck aches. Perhaps everything looks different in the summer. The car parking was good.

The room size and overall ambiance of the property are nice, but the bedding and decor feel outdated and sparse. I strongly recommend upgrading the mattresses and pillows, as I had one of the worst nights of sleep on the current mattress (room 10).

Once again staff were lovely. Great hotel , everything you need. Close to the centre of Salisbury, 15 minute walk. Parking here £5 a night. Hotel is an older building full of character, near a river. Good breakfast and lovely and warm in all the common areas. Room was large, comfortable and everything we needed for a wonderful Christmas break.
