Very comfortable bed but room far far too hot, window open but directly out side the beer garden so noisy. This would be fine if thoughtful ear plugs were provided. Felt quite exposed opening the window more, but room temperature so high, fan provided was pathetic so did not sleep well at all. I’m sure on a cool day it would be lovely however. Sadly had to leave before breakfast at 8 during weekends - I made a mistake and thought it would be 7.30 still. Lovely place but potential to be fantastic - could just be this room

Honestly could not fault this place at all. Staff very welcoming and attentive. If things were not available in your room they would be more than happy to help and provide eg. Iron and Iron Board.

The breakfast was amazing and the fresh pastel del nata was even better than what I’ve had in Portugal! 10/10 recommend

We had a truly wonderful stay at The Packhorse Inn. We stayed in Warren Room which was really lovely a very comfortable bed and a fantastic bathroom.
Areas of the room and the hallway leading to it are a little tired looking stained carpet and areas of paintwork could be refreshed.

The food was absolutely amazing we had roast beef and sticky date pudding for our meal. Lovely service the waiter was very helpful and attentive.
Breakfast was also very good the staff looking after us were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

We will definitely return!

Stayed with you Friday and Saturday. Lovely room. Very comfortable bed. The room was spotless. Staff very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
The only negatives were the shower was blocked and the buffet breakfast choices were not as good on the Sunday.

Very nice Inn. Room was spacious, clean and well maintained. There was no shower in my room which I prefer, and instead a bath was in the actjual bedroom with a shower attachment. The food was very good. I had the cured trout and fish and chips, which although expensive, was of top quality. The cooked breakfast was one of the best I've had, but as i don't eat much bread or pastries, they could have done with some yoghurt and a better selection of fresh fruit. Overall thoiugh, I would recommend this place.

Room was spacious and nicely decorated, had a great bath and toiletries. The pub was lovely and we found the evening meal delicious. The breakfast was very good also. Location was great 👍 not too far out of Newmarket itself . Easy parking, would definitely recommend.

From the start to the end our stay was amazing. The staff met all of our needs and Ben was great looking after us at dinner. Dinner was delicious and the breakfast catered for myself and 10 year old son with the waitress being very accommodating and professional.

I stayed one night, and also had Sunday lunch (which wasn’t great). The room was nice, and the bed was comfy. Quiet area. Disappointed to see the tables weren’t cleaned from the previous day at breakfast (which also wasn’t great). I wouldn’t choose to return here.

Very pleasant inn for business or couples trip!

The Packhorse Inn was a very pleasant inn to stay at for my business trip! The room itself was well air conditioned and the amenities were very comfortable. Any extras needed such as ironing board, etc were readily available from the staff. Had breakfast and supper multiple evenings of my trip and always enjoyed them throughly. Generous portions and reasonable pricing. The inn itself is located next to a quiet and quaint village which is a short few minute drive into Newmarket which is loaded with eateries and walking areas. All very nice due to the presence of the racehorse facilities surrounding the area. Would highly recommend the packhorse for business or a couples getaway.

Overall good with some room for improvement

The room was decorated nicely and bed was comfortable but no air con, which was an issue in May but would be uncomfortable at the height of summer.

Location is lovely and picturesque.

Dinner was nice but felt overpriced for what it was.

The room and food was good. The great wine list with many options by the glass, nice outdoor areas.

Unfortunately, I was woken early by the cleaners outside my room running water and banging buckets.

Breakfast was okay, only one person was serving and quite a lot of other staff standing around.

Great hotel but let down by noise in room

Was staying for business, hotel and service were excellent and food a high standard. My only issue was the bedroom (The Folly) was directly above the kitchen so very noisy until just after 11pm and then again from 7am. Wouldn't return as I value a good night's sleep which is a shame as otherwise ideal for my needs.

My wife and I stayed overnight to meet up with family and have a meal together. The room was lovely, clean, and welcoming.
Bathroom was modern and clean with good shower. The staff were very friendly and the service was great! We had a meal in the restaurant which was wonderful, the breakfast was equally as good!
All in all a great stay and I can see us revisiting.

Loved the restaurant and the amazing staff and the location is wonderful. Only downside was the room that we were allocated while comfortable had an unimpressive aspect and was missing some finer details e.g. could have done with an extra chair and a small coffee table (the room was big enough) and it lacked hanging space. Overall though a lovely stay..

Weekend visiting Newmarket.

We had a lovely one night stay in the Warren room, it was very comfortable with a beautiful bathroom, two small notes, there is no accessible plug socket near the right hand side of the bed & the TV was not working while we were there but that wasn’t really a problem for us as we were out most of the time.
The food was excellent and staff very friendly and attentive.

Wow what a great place, I really hope I can engineer another reason to visit the area in the near future.

I called the property to advise I would be a late check in prior to travelling, expecting to get their at 21:30. The manger was very kind and said it wouldn't be a problem they usally their until 23:00 / 24:00.

About 30 mins later he called me back to check if I would like any food putting to one side as I would miss last orders at my arrival time. I had a horrible journey down due to road works, but at 22:30 I got a further call because they were worried I still hadn't arrived. I eventually got their at 23:00 to what can only be described as a warm, almost family like welcome.

Then I got to the room! Wow, I was in the Plantation room and that HUGE bath with the hottest water and most epic water pressure ever was heaven.

After a refreshing nights sleep, I had an early breakfast of Avocado and Poached eggs on toast! OMG best ever, i was so guttered I hadn't got their earlier so i could of had dinner, based on how nice breakfast was, i definatley missed out lol

Thank you Packhorse Inn Team, you made a solo traveller for work VERY HAPPY!

Lovely location. Lovely property, but room had no shower, just one over the bath that soaked the floor. Room was very noisy & while the bar / kitchwb was open was not ideal for a business traveler. If you were staying for a pleasure trip it would not be a problem.

Bad communication and not best customer service

Communication was poor, no working bath and was not told before arrival. Transferred to another hotel, but we was told in the morning that we had to pay for the other hotel and that our hotel.com booking was cancelled (there was no cancellation). My wife was 7 month pregnant and was getting quite stressed. The manager at the place was not understanding and was arguing and not finding a solution for us. I would not go back or to any of the parent group restaurants

Nice location, but......

Nicely situated property. The room clean and tidy but excessively hot, felt like the room had Permanent underfloor heating which was insufficiently cooled by wide open windows and a portable cooling fan.
Given the price we also felt that there should be more than four coat hangars in the wardrobe. Small detail but the sort of thing that should be checked prior to the next customer.

A fantastic find

The reason for our visit was reminiscent of “long lost family “ reunion. The staff especially Ali and Max were aware of this and went out of their way to help it be a huge success. The night before the big day we had a delicious meal in the restaurant and were served by Anna with whom we shared a private joke about a car fire and water. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our visit, our room was beautiful and cannot praise the friendly helpful staff enough.

Clean and tidy but a few things amis when you look closer. Window blinds not great.... shower pretty useless...... toilet constantly flushes.... The initial room decor looks great on first impact.... however the more time you spend this less it apeals....

On the plus side the service feels right for this type of accommodation.

Restaurant area looks inviting but we didn't have time to sample....

A thoroughly modernised old building

This well decorated old Inn is more of a busy, noisy restaurant (on the Friday evening we stayed) than a hotel. Beware that there are different prices for the bedrooms and that booking directly using the hotel's phone number will mean that breakfast should be included, rather than being charged at £15 extra per person via a website like hotels.com. When I arrived after a long journey, the 2nd sentence was asking with whom I had booked. , The availability of hot water was fantastic but Warren bedroom could usefully do with a table next to the washbasin for ones toiletries. A couple of the little tubs of milk curdled our early morning tea. I should have asked for a jug of freshmilk. There was only one bedroom chair in our spacious bedroom and not many comfy chairs in the modern bar-restaurant area. The lack of soft furnishings downstairs made noise levels very high mid to late evening. There was no separate lounge-sitting area for guests, no real ale, but the food was quite nice and the local chilled cider was refreshing.
