Ideal stay in the Cotswolds

Communications before our stay were excellent. A very warm welcome awaited us us in a cold wet day. Check in was an easy process and everything was explained thoroughly.
A really interesting hotel in a very historic building. Room was spacious and clean with an enormous bed.
Good facilities in the room with a well stocked mini bar.
Flowers ordered for arrival were fresh and vibrant in colour.
Complementary cheese and wine were served in the covered courtyard. Very generous servings and a warm welcome from the staff.
Dinner in the Tempest restaurant was great. Food was vey well presented and ideally portioned.
Breakfast has many choices and again food is plentiful.
Check out was swift and efficient.
We will stay here again when in the Cotswolds

For the quality of the hotel we felt very let down by the catering. Not good choices on the menu and the quality of the food was not up to standard. I did have to send my meal back. However the room was very comfortable and spacious.

Stayed overnite while attending a concert at Ragley hall. The hotel we’re hosting a wedding and unfortunately there was very little space to sit and relax during the day and on our return the bar had closed at 10.30 and we were told to head to the wedding bar if we wanted a drink, don’t think the bride and groom would have been too chuffed . As a guest would have been nice to have felt a little more hospitality, don’t think the hotel should be renting rooms out when a wedding is on.

Lovely stay at this hotel.. excellent food... stayed in the stable block .. ok for one night a little cramped …no air con but very clean and a comfortable bed..would definitely stay again …in a different room if staying more than one night.

Guest care was at the front of their concerns. Responded appropriately and quickly to my wife’s breathing problems in the extreme heatwave. With temperatures in the high 30C our room in the original building was too hot and airless.Would return but probably not in the main building. But Praise to all the staff for making our anniversary special.

Nice Character Hotel but more cleaning required

The hotel has lots of character and the rooms are comfortable but the cleaning of the outside areas leaves a lot to be desired. There are cigarette ends all over the floor in many areas. The food is good, if a little pricey and the service is good but there was no real ale available.

Firstly the staff were exceptional, could not do enough to help. The food was also excellent. Unfortunately the property is in desperate need of an overhaul. Cleanliness of the rooms is from our room point of view very poor indeed. We, due to a mix up with Expedia and the Hotel booking, ended up having the Bridal Suite. We must say if this had been our Bridal Suite we would have been asking for our money back! All this said the bed and linen was more than adequate for our 2 night stay. It says on the front door they are a 3 star hotel and i feel this is a true representation of their current status. This hotel has the ability to be a much better place to stay. We were a little disappointed but the staff and the food prevented us from making any complaint. We would consider staying here again but i am sure there are better hotels of a similar rating in the area we would check our first.

Wonderful stay

Myself and my partner stayed for one night we had the four poster bed which was very comfortable. The bathroom was very spacious and clean. We also opted for breakfast when booking our stay which was lovely highly recommend it. All members of staff were very helpful and friendly especially reception.
If I have any criticism it would be no toilet brush in the bathroom.

The hotel was really tired with wallpaper peeling off the walls. Our bedroom was dusty with cobwebs on the wall lights. Mould and peeling paint in the bathroom. The chef cooked us eggs benedict - the bread was not toasted and the eggs were hard. This hotel needs loads of money to be spent to bring it up to standard. Very poor

The staff were very helpful, and when I asked about the history of the hotel the receptionist took the time to get me a print out of the history of the building. They happily moved me to a room that they believed to be haunted. Beautiful hotel in a lovely part of the country. Thanks for all of your efforts to ensure that our stay with you was most pleasant.

Great history, great barman!

The building was magnificent, and in a beautiful setting. The room was nice, although the shower was little more than a drip - my wife struggled to wash her hair in it, as it barely had the power to rinse the soap out.

Staff behind the reception weren’t exactly the friendliest bunch if I’m honest. However the waiting and bar staff were absolutely wonderful. In particular, the barman (tall friendly chap with a beard, I didn’t get his name, but would like his professionalism and friendliness to be recognised), could not have done more to make our stay more enjoyable - a wonderful asset to the hotel, he turned a regular stay into a lovely one.

The hotel staff were helpful and the room was large and very comfortable. The restaurant was full on the first night. We had a nice meal in Evesham, not a problem. The hotel was full. Both cooked breakfasts did not appear to be freshly cooked and one was cool rather than hot. The breakfast buffet was small but nice. It was a shame that the catering wasn't up to the standard of the rest of the hotel.

When I got there I wasn’t acknowledged for ages. The man on reception seemed to be on a personal call. When he did eventually check me in he gave me a key but told me nothing about dinner or breakfast. I had to dig around in the room for the guest information and find it out myself. There was no food options for less than £20 so I just got a takeaway to the room. There’s also only 1 plug miles away from anywhere you can sit so if you need to plug a laptop in for work you’ll be sat on the floor..... good points? The internet was quick....
Staff on breakfast equally unfriendly and didn’t explain I needed to order Hard to guess without a menu? They also weren’t around to order from

We were on the top floor and are elderly. There is ni lift and no one offered help with our bags. The water tank was near and made a terrific noise when used. The location is good the room was spacious with a 4 poster bed. Breakfast staff wete excellent.

Low score because I was put in a separate building from the main hotel. This had paper thin walls so I was kept awake by the person in the next room snoring. Also, the double bed is just 2 singles pushed together. Food and service were good, though.

We have been regular visitors and enjoyed our stays. However this visit was not as enjoyable. The staff have always been friendly and helpful but on this occasion we didn't leave with that usual warn feeling. The evening barman was a pleasure to deal with as was our usual lady for the breakfast service but a couple of encounters with other members of staff made us feel less than valued. Not sure if anything has changed there but sadly it has made us think twice before returning.

Very Disappointing

Selected what looked to be a lovely old stately home hotel only to be accommodated in what was old stables/out buildings. Very noisy room both from guests next door and upstairs, every footstep caused floor boards to creak and groan.
Boiler pipes for building ran up the corner of the room so very noisy from the pumping sounds cracking and creaking.
Room was intercommunicating with another room but the lock was broken on \"my side\", I had to move a chest of drawers in front of the door, and felt very unsafe all night.
Room was also very dirty, carpet not hoovered well, skirting boards very dusty and cob webs in several places.
One of the worst nights sleep I have had in over 30 years of travelling.
Such a shame as the main hotel looked so nice.

Cheap and cheerful - Hard to sleep at night

Nice hotel overall, room is nice and has all standard facilities, however at night beware, anyone moving upstairs or coming into the building wake you up, I am a deep sleeper , but people coming in at midnight, you can hear their voices and just simple stuff like walking , very creaky rooms. Rooms are also very hot , fan is provided however very very stuffy.

Breakfast is okay, nothing special, I wouldn't pay for the breakfast there, I only had it because it was part of my deal when I booked, basic buffet food, cereal , sugary squash orange juice, bland savories , and then the 'cooked' breakfast is very basic, full English very bland - certainly not worth £15 per person anyway.

Staff were nice and pleasant - I wouldn't stay again , but its cheap , cheerful and adequate for 1 night i guess.

From the minute we arrived I knew this was a good choice. Ambience, staff, casual drink in the sunny garden, all making for the perfect weekend away. The evening meal was unbelievably excellent. Superb food beautifully presented. We are already planning on a return visit.

Our first room was located up a series of very old steep stairs plus dimly lit corridors. It seemed to be getting darker the more steps we encountered

We finally located our twin room which was very small with low overhanging ceilings in parts. The bath was slightly sunken and the whole journey from the ground floor up seemed to be very accident prone. Back at reception I said the room and its location was unsatisfactory. She then located a ground floor room in the annex which was very pleasing. Only trouble was quite a lot of ants. There was ant bait on the floor

This was a short February half-term break purchased as a Christmas present. From the food we ate I suspect it may well have been cooked at Christmas too. £15 for a stale burger, served with cold chips and £12.50 for the chicken caesar salad seemed excessive when the chicken appeared to have been microwaved. Ideas of having a lie in were sadly short lived as on both mornings we were woken by workers hammering on the roof directly above us from 8 in the morning, accompanied by the tuneful hum of the cement mixer. The bed itself, whilst looking like a fairy tale four poster was uncomfortable and clearly had seen better days as could be seen from the variety of previous repairs. Although we could hear the water system constantly running behind the walls throughout our stay, my attempt at having a warm shower sadly failed as, despite turning off the cold tap, the water coming through was at best tepid.

great building shame about the beds

Great location, friendly staff and beautiful building. Food was good, however the MOST important item is the bed, and to be honest I had two awful nights, the mattress was terrible and I spend all night rolling into my husband feeling like I was going to disappear into a big hole in the middle of the bed. If you cant get the bed right and then don't care, don' have hotels!!!!

Great country hotel!

We stayed here last week and, unfortunately, had to cut our stay shirt due to a family emergency. The staff was very accommodating and shortened our reservation without any problem which was greatly appreciated. The hotel is an extremely fun place to stay. The main house dates from 1470 and still has many of the iriginal interior features. We stayed in one of the converted carriage house rooms (no.17) which was clean and comfortable. The bathroom is prpbably the nicest and biggest of any hotel bathroom that I have ever seen in Europe. We paid for the full hot breakfast the next morning and it was definitely worth it. The Eggs Benedict were great. I hope to cone back again in the future. Thanks Salford Hall!

room was very noisy with the extra fans from the kitchen running along side the room, had phone reception about it these were turned off after 10 pm, food very expensive for what you got chef doesn't know difference between well done and rare, this was not a £104 room more like a £70 room and needs be re-priced accordingly

Salford Hall, Salford Priors

Second visit to this hotel - centrally located for the surrounding area of Evesham with good access to Stratford upon Avon. Great ambience. Had the same room both times, small, comfortable and warm with good ventilation. Everything I need for visiting friends. I wish the tennis court was usable though!
You know its a good place when you see a helicopter arrive with people arriving for tea - like upon my first visit :)

A great getaway

This was our second trip to Salford Hall, for a short two-night break. It is a lovely old building, full of quaint corners, with a pleasant bar and restaurant. Our room was clean and comfortable. The nearby town of Bidford has a very pleasant riverside walk, and other attractive towns such as Evesham, Stratford and Warwick are not far away. All in all, a great getaway.

Nice period property with all the expectations of a terrific valentine escape for us, 25 years married. 2 daughters \"looking after the house and dog\" (i.e. Party while mum and dad are away); unfortunately spoiled by the (ridiculous) 'office ceiling' hotel restaurant with atrocious kitchen service and poor quality food.

With just 40 covers (their numbers) the restaurant was in complete meltdown. We were third couple seated at 7:15 and still waited 1/2 hour for service. We received incorrect meals, eventually replaced by one crudely plated duck and an horrendously tough, reheated pork dish with pitiful accompaniments and zero flavour. As the evening progressed, we saw the same shambles occurring at table-after- table. The complaint and rebate queue at check-out next morning spoke volumes. We elected not to risk inflaming our disappointment by taking breakfast at £15 per head, so retreated to the nearest reasonable eatery.

Would not go back

Staff held a meeting next to our room, from 10pm until 11:55pm (stopped when I slammed the door) the room was also really hot, the shower ceiling was low due to beams which meant I have to crouch while showing. I am less than 6 foot tall, also breakfast was £12.50 and the cooked breakfast was small and not worth £12.50. The building looks lovely but not a great hotel overall.
