First room we were given, the toilet didn’t flush, second was poor… neither had the view stipulated in the booking… sheets and headboard stained… had to seperate the twin beds for my son and myself, and this led to seeing loads of loose cables behind the bed and a plug not secured behind the bed… the hotel smelt fusty and damp, very noisy, two men held a loud coversation outside the bedroom at 1:47 this morning… the wall paper was peeling from the wall… the shower curtain was yellow at the bottom… no catering available and the hotel is miles from anywhere to get any food…
Very disappointed with this.

There was no food nor anywhere really close to get any. and even no change at the bar and most of the drinks were unavailable.

It appears to have been only one member of staff on duty as he was running about performing all things.

What really set the icing on the cake was the complete lack of spoons with the tea and coffee in the room and no biscuits which would have offset the lack of food. It felt too much bother to make the trek to find someone to get me a spoon.

This place really does have the potential to be a good hotel but the lack of thought in the little things have completely let it down. It's all well and good getting people into the place to stay and the room was not expensive but no food for hungry people, not enough drinks and a till not full of change - the longer that goes on, then more reviews are going to be like this.

The price is levelled correctly for the cleanliness and quality. Although as a proud/caring dog owner the dust and dirt in the room did not warrant the £20 additional charge for my dog.

The hotel food should be marketed clearer. There is no food provision other than going out or ordering a takeaway.

Don’t love, don’t hate… but could be an amazing hotel with a slightly higher cost for little more effort on small things. E.g. Shower did not work, dirty towel rail, not enough towels for two people, no spoons to make drinks, no power by desk so had to sit kettle on a chair.

I booked a superior deluxe room and was give a single room with moldy bed sheets and no bath towel.
When I questioned this the reception staff advised that the room had been allocated by the system. I know this was incorrect as the receptionist who booked me in asked the manager if i should be allocated room 108 (superior deluxe) or 110 (single) and he advised to allocate me room 110.
Very disappointed.
No wifi, internet connection, TV had only 2 channels that worked.
Spolit my mood for my stay sadly.

Why does it cost £15 to leave luggage prior to check-in?
Why were the rooms not clean?
Having paid £110 for a double room for my daughter and her partner I would expect much more. They left as soon as they could the next day and who could blame them. Clearly standards are so low; simply how can management and staff accept paying guests knowing that the guests will be exposed to such poor conditions. Only the location of the Wrekin saves it; such a poor hotel in such a wonderful location. Suffice to say my family or I will never be going back

We paid £40 and were quite happy for 1 night.

We didn’t have breakfast booked. But the restaurant/bar was closed and there isn’t anything close by without a car. But shop/pubs minutes away by car.

Room was freezing, lots of people complaining or being given heaters. We were moved and then perfectly warm.

Carpets on stairs need a hoover.

Nice decor in rooms. They felt clean. Reception were friendly and helpful.

This time there was no food available and had to go to a pub to find a meal, no breakfast available again had to go out to find some and no bar. Had a voicemail message left whilst I was at a wedding to say they were re-rooming us to sister hotel due to boiler breaking down. Rang when I got signal and the person I spoke to was quite rude. My partner & I booked a last minute, overnight stay here.
We were informed during Check-In that the heating wasn't working - but the hot water was... and were asked if we were happy with that as a refund cannot be given once we have Check-In.
We asked to see the room, to gauge the temperature in the room, before deciding. My partner is fine with the cold. I am not and wouldn't be able to sleep if it is cold.
We were taken to the room to gauge the temperature.
Enroute through the corridors, we were greeted with the smell of tobacco and weed. Not very pleasant, appealing, nor inviting.
Our room was an end room. It was cold. I wouldn't of been able to sleep in that temperature.
We were offered a 4-poster bed room instead. I am not sure why the 4-poster bed was mentioned, when it was the room temperature and no heating, that was the issue.
We viewed the \"4-poster bed\" room. It was a middle room and as soon as we walked into the room, we could feel that it was slightly warmer in there.
We accepted this double room.

The bed was clean and the mattress was nice and firm.There were only 2, fairly flat, pillows.

Clean shower towels provided.

In the bathroom - the ceiling was moldy, as was the bottom of the shower curtain.
There was a tiny, single-use complementary bottle of shampoo and conditioner. Only 1, for 2 people. No hand soap.

Slept fine but wouldn't go back there in a hurry.
Much room for improvement.

Avoid at All Costs – Absolutely Awful Experience

Our stay at the Buckatree Hotel was nothing short of a nightmare. From the moment we walked in, it felt like stepping into a time warp—straight back to the early 2000s, and not in a good way. The entire building is severely outdated, with damaged doors lining the corridors and wallpaper peeling from nearly every wall. It honestly felt like the place hadn’t seen a proper renovation in decades.

We booked a family room, but the moment we stepped inside we were hit with a strong smell of damp. Water marks were clearly visible on the walls, and the room looked like it had been thrown together with whatever furniture was left in a clearance sale—nothing matched and everything looked tired and worn.

Now for the beds... if you can call them that. We would’ve had a better night’s sleep on a park bench. Lumpy, uncomfortable, and clearly long past their use-by date.

Worst of all, the room was freezing during the night. Both of our kids were shivering and miserable, and there was no way to heat the room. It was honestly heartbreaking watching them try to sleep through the cold.

We were supposed to stay for two nights but checked out first thing the next morning. It was that bad. I wouldn’t let my worst enemy spend a night here. They advertise this place as a 3-star hotel, but in reality, it should be condemned.

Absolutely avoid—this place needs a serious overhaul or shutting down completely.

Brilliant place to lay your head for 2/3 nights

I loved it here. The staff were brilliant and very friendly. I will defo be booking again. Wanted to stay next week but they are fully booked. Will definitely be there again really soon.

The location is perfect if you love scenery and the tranquil atmosphere is second to none. My 4 yr old also loved it here.

Great leave if you have a pet too. The walks are fantastic. With breath taking views.

You get what you pay for. It’s cheap and cheerful so no point in complain about the decor etc if you book here. Makes no sense in my opinion.

The hotel staff were friendly and solved our problems quickly and easily.
Rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable!
Would have liked the restaurant to be open or room service, but this was not available so we had to get a food delivery. Breakfast, however, was well priced and had a good selection.
Gym was also closed.

Location was beautiful - our room over looked the lake and was lovely to sit and have a coffee on the balcony.

Would consider booking again when I am next in the area.

Needs serious refurbishment

The first impression was good: seemed like a decent hotel, the room size was good, had a balcony that was facing the pond. Also, hood location for hikers.

However, when had a closer look, we realised that this hotel needed a serious refurbishment: a light didn’t work, a face mirror was missing, the carpets and curtains should get an upgrade. Also, they gave us one bottle of shower gal and one bottle of shampoo for two adults and one child. However, we could go to the reception to ask for replenishment.

Basically, the hotel has a potential to do well, but it seems that the management would rather spending minimal amount of money possible to ensure the basic function worked. I would be surprised if this hotel will last in the long run if this practice continues.

I did not like the Night Manager trying to enter my room with his pass key at 1:45am on Sunday morning!!!

This spooked me and spoilt my trip, resulting in a nasty case of delayed shock, including migraine and vomiting.

Fortunately before retiring I had taken the precaution of barricading the door with my musical instruments, overnight bags and a very noisy security device, which alerted me to the intruder.

I phoned the police at that time, who are very interested in this individual.

Poor condition, very rundown. Restaurant not operating as council have closed kitchen down, receptionist had no idea when it might reopen.
The bar is ‘open’ but they have no stock, only water, ice and wine.

This property should not be open until it is ready and bought up to standards shown in the pictures or the pictures changed. A lot of the rooms are locked off due to their condition, so feels empty and unsafe. The room was dirty, and not cleaned properly, dirty socks found, the phone didn’t work, the furniture is falling apart, the beds are dirty and heavily soiled, the doors don’t lock properly, the lift is out of order to all 3 floors, and the staff don’t care, they even try to debit your payment card before you check in despite picking the pay at property option. I checked out immediately.

The most dirtiest and disgusting hotel ever

This is the most terrible and disgusting hotel I’ve ever been to and I thank God I never slept there for even for a minute with my family after booking for 3 nights.The lift in there is not working so imagine if your bags are heavy you will have to carry them by yourself by using stairs to your room, bird poo everywhere, spider webs everywhere, mouldy bathrooms, No proper ventilation, Stuffy rooms, no air condition and they cannot provide a basic fan in this hot weather, if you need air you have to open the balcony door so imagine the amount of flies that will come in and I’m sure they will not provide heaters during winter. Due to the condition of the place hotel.com and Buckatree have put this dodgy policy in the booking which is “no refund after paying for the booking”. They’ve posted nice pictures just to deceive people in booking the place and this is a scam, hotel.com is aware of the condition of the place and they a part of this. “Imagine paying for an expensive shoe online and being delivered a slipper”that is what you get when you book Buckatree. I saw people check in and check out right after seeing the rooms so imagine the number of people they’ve deceived in paying up and not getting a refund.I requested for a refund but hotel.com and buckatree refused to give me back my money and they both kept lying and tossing me around. I will not advise anyone to waste a Penny in booking this place and this hotel does not deserve even a 1 star 😡

This hotel has a lot of potential and is in a lovely setting. My suspicion is the owners are new and haven't the money to invest or are the old owners still trying to sell the hotel without pouring more money in. We got what we paid for (which wasn't very much) but a bed and a clean bathroom. Breakfast was additional and we didn't partake. The photos used on all booking websites are lies... Gone are the pristine manicured lawns, relaxed with a foot high wild meadow. The flower beds now filled with dead plants, weeds, and discarded beer bottles and cans. The lake that looks so tranquil and ornate is overgrown and untended. Balcony furniture covered in bird muck and unusable. The building itself is rundown and in need of some serious maintenance. The lift hasn't worked for months for a start. We were lucky and got a relatively clean room, but others we spoke to told of black mould in the bathroom, broken light fittings, damp beds, peeling wallpaper and broken furniture. There was even a report of bed bugs being seen. Needless to say both we and another couple checked in and out again within hours of arrival. This place is so bad we renamed it the Bucket of Fleas!

Hotel from the outside looks great and Is in a lovely setting. Inside it’s dated, it smelt bad and the rooms were terrible. Our towels were dirty, the bath was mouldy it was very poor. We had to go to the local supermarket to buy towels and cups as we didn’t want to use theirs. Wouldn’t stay there again if they paid me.

Cheap budget hotel that needs attention.

The hotel beeda attention. The room had broken lights and missing wall light. Loose tap on the sink and dirty towel.
The grounds although could be lovely, it hadnt been looked after. Grass was overgrown and the lake was near empty with brokwn fence - not as pretty as previous visit. Staff gave no information bar looked closed and the restaurant wasnt in use.

It was a good base and the room was fine.
No dinner or hot breakfast as kitchen out of order.
A few minor issues with flickering lights in corridor and socket not working in room and building looked tired. gardens were overgrown which was a shame. Not sure it’s been recently taken over or just being neglected. Massive potential and was ok for our overnight stay

Our door wouldn’t open with the card so the staff member had to open it with the machine everytime we needed to get back in. The bar was open but with limited stock. Overall the hotel could be really lovely with a gardener to look after the grounds and some more staff, perhaps keys for the doors instead of the card system would be better and a stocked bar with bee on draught also

OK for an overnight stay

Staff friendly enough, clean.
Room was fine, except the handle on the shower riser rail was bust. Smallest bottle of shower gel I've ever seen. No socket by bed which is annoying these days with phones, laptops etc. Fan in bathroom didn't work.
\"Continental\" breakfast is pretty thin and doesn't start until 8 at weekends. Unripe bananas. Cheap fruit juice. Croissants pre-packed not fresh.Cereal a small selection of the little multipack boxes. etc
I wonder how long the lift has been broken for? It was out of order when I stayed a couple of weeks ago.
It was functional enough as an overnight stay en route.

The location room upgrade was excellent and it was very quiet with great facilities in the room. The only thing that let the stay down was the breakfast the next morning, it wasn't good with a lack of food available for £6.50 so that needs to be changed.
