The hotel emailed after the booking was made and within 24 hours of arrival to say no food was available.

When we arrived, there was only one member of staff available doing everything from check in and serving in the bar to sweeping up. She was very helpful and friendly but clearly snowed under with a busy hotel. She said that her colleague had phoned in sick and the premises were under new management with the kitchen and other facilities were being refurbished. This wasn’t made clear prior to booking and it was a 20-minute walk to the nearest food options.

Room was clean, if a bit dated, in terms of its dark decor and wooden fixtures and fittings, and only had one plug socket available. Mattress was wafer thin.

It was cheap, and you clearly get what you pay for. Hopefully the new owners will spend a few quid and employ some more staff!

Where shall i start we booked for 2 nights as it was our 48th Wedding Anniversary as soon as we got to reception the attitude of the 2 young lads was awful no welcome to the Hotel nothing we went into the Bar as we were a little early trouble was no pulled beers available they made us feel as if we should not be there when they took us to our room 2 single beds pushed together we had booked a double anyway we left it at that unpacked sort of wife went to put the tv on just to check no signal so i asked one of the young lads if they would come and sort it out his attitude when he came was awful got the remote tried nothing then he got you tube and said you will have to watch that and left nothing else then that decided to pack up wife went to reception and asked again told her someone will be down soon well guess what nobody showed up so that was NO pulled ales NO food No Heating we asked for extra duvet and was told they couldnt supply any we are pensioners and was freezing all night.so we decided to go the next morning and forgo the 2nd day as we were checking out another customer was complaining about all the same issues that we were so my advice to anyone please do not this so called Hotel.

Worst hotel experience ever. The wifi doesnt work properly. There's no signal so you cant use your data. The staff dont clean your rooms. There elevator is broken. There is no AC. The hotel serves no food. Sometimes there is no parking. The room is dirty. I saw spiders hiding in the room. Worst experience ever. I will not be coming here again and I do not reccomend it to anybody. Its not worth the price.

Upon arrival there was a sign on the reception advising that there is no food being served at the hotel. This includes breakfast. Anyone wishing to eat in the evening will need to either drive somewhere (not really walking distance from anything) or use a delivery service.
It would be helpful to have this clearly detailed on the booking page as it is a general assumption that the hotel will at the very least include a breakfast service.
The building, grounds and surrounding areas are all very nice, however, upon entering the hotel, its as if you have gone back in time to the 1980's. The whole decor is very dated, with narrow halls and stairs and the rooms themselves haven't been renovated for what seems like 3 decades.
I imagine that the hotel was once a very nice place, with the restaurant and grounds, and would have been a fantastic wedding venue, however, it seems that years of neglect and lack of investment have lead to it becoming rather run down and and in need of extensive upgrades.

Told on arrival no food as they said working on kitchen, dining room not open or any room service. Hotel isn't that close to other places either. Not even snacks or sandwiches or hot drinks other than those in the room. They could have provided a temporary provision. Instead told get a takeaway delivered and even delivery drivers took a long time given location. This hotel should not be trading as a 3 star hotel without any catering or any food. Room was cold also as heating on a timer so had to get hotel to provide a fan heater. Only one pillow on beds too low. All together a poor stay, shame as hotel so. Much potential and character.

Think Faulty Towers and you won’t be disappointed. The reception staff run the bar and everything- absolutely lovely.
However, keys given to other guests ( walking in whilst a guest was in bed- totally unacceptable)
No working radiators, yet showers scolding hot, freezing cold rooms - used towels for extra warmth, rooms offered to our elderly party down the metal fire escape stairwell - we refused, no working lift.
For the price we paid - it’s reflected in facilities.
Spotless rooms and lovely staff that tried hard.

Unfortunately in this case you get what you pay for. Whilst this hotel was the cheapest around, it certainly felt like it once you stepped inside.

We were told 24 hours before our stay that there would be no food available at the hotel, which didn’t leave us anytime to cancel and book a different one somewhere else. Annoyingly it looks like this has been the case for a while.

The pictures had shown the hotel overlooking a lake/large pond but what was there was just a remnant of the pond which was now dirty and full of rubbish. Our room had a window at the end of our bed which was looking directly into another 4 rooms, so we had to keep the curtains closed.

Our bathroom had mould on the walls, and despite having an ironing board, there was no iron. The beds have spring mattresses which feel like they have seen better days and the heating came on around 5pm so the room was very cold before that.

I will say the shower had great pressure as did the toilet, but the walls were so thin we could hear the neighbours doing everything in their bathroom.

Staff were polite but felt very uninterested in our presence.

I feel the charm this hotel once had is long gone.

On the plus side it is walking distance from The Wrekin trail and the ercall trail with free parking, so ideal if you just want somewhere to sleep inbetween treks.

The lower price of the rooms in this hotel reflect that it is just a bit run down in places small things like new shower rails and curtains would be easy fixes also cleaning up the hundreds of cigarette butts from the floor which were visible from our balcony and appeared to be from the two rooms below just distracted from what is a lovely area.

The room was warm. the shower powerful and we slept really well which is key to any stay.

There was no food at the hotel when we were there which isn't a big issue and they messaged us prior to the stay but the bar looked open although we didn't use it.

We took our dog and appreciate the quoted £20 per accomodation per stay fee detailed on here but were told on checking in it is actually £20 per night! Reliant on the accomodation we paid but having completed the stay we struggle to see why it was per night when there is no daily room service other than a knock on the door to see if we needed anything. Aside from that the hotel is in a perfect location for dog walks up or around the Wrekin or over the Ercall and down into Wellington.

First room we were given, the toilet didn’t flush, second was poor… neither had the view stipulated in the booking… sheets and headboard stained… had to seperate the twin beds for my son and myself, and this led to seeing loads of loose cables behind the bed and a plug not secured behind the bed… the hotel smelt fusty and damp, very noisy, two men held a loud coversation outside the bedroom at 1:47 this morning… the wall paper was peeling from the wall… the shower curtain was yellow at the bottom… no catering available and the hotel is miles from anywhere to get any food…
Very disappointed with this.

There was no food nor anywhere really close to get any. and even no change at the bar and most of the drinks were unavailable.

It appears to have been only one member of staff on duty as he was running about performing all things.

What really set the icing on the cake was the complete lack of spoons with the tea and coffee in the room and no biscuits which would have offset the lack of food. It felt too much bother to make the trek to find someone to get me a spoon.

This place really does have the potential to be a good hotel but the lack of thought in the little things have completely let it down. It's all well and good getting people into the place to stay and the room was not expensive but no food for hungry people, not enough drinks and a till not full of change - the longer that goes on, then more reviews are going to be like this.

The price is levelled correctly for the cleanliness and quality. Although as a proud/caring dog owner the dust and dirt in the room did not warrant the £20 additional charge for my dog.

The hotel food should be marketed clearer. There is no food provision other than going out or ordering a takeaway.

Don’t love, don’t hate… but could be an amazing hotel with a slightly higher cost for little more effort on small things. E.g. Shower did not work, dirty towel rail, not enough towels for two people, no spoons to make drinks, no power by desk so had to sit kettle on a chair.

I booked a superior deluxe room and was give a single room with moldy bed sheets and no bath towel.
When I questioned this the reception staff advised that the room had been allocated by the system. I know this was incorrect as the receptionist who booked me in asked the manager if i should be allocated room 108 (superior deluxe) or 110 (single) and he advised to allocate me room 110.
Very disappointed.
No wifi, internet connection, TV had only 2 channels that worked.
Spolit my mood for my stay sadly.

Why does it cost £15 to leave luggage prior to check-in?

Having paid £110 for a double room for my daughter and her partner I would expect much more. They left as soon as they could the next day and who could blame them. Clearly standards are so low; simply how can management and staff accept paying guests knowing that the guests will be exposed to such poor conditions. Only the location of the Wrekin saves it; such a poor hotel in such a wonderful location. Suffice to say my family or I will never be going back

We paid £40 and were quite happy for 1 night.

We didn’t have breakfast booked. But the restaurant/bar was closed and there isn’t anything close by without a car. But shop/pubs minutes away by car.

Room was freezing, lots of people complaining or being given heaters. We were moved and then perfectly warm.

Carpets on stairs need a hoover.

Nice decor in rooms. They felt clean. Reception were friendly and helpful.

Had a voicemail message left whilst I was at a wedding to say they were re-rooming us to sister hotel due to boiler breaking down. Rang when I got signal and the person I spoke to was quite rude. My partner & I booked a last minute, overnight stay here.
We were informed during Check-In that the heating wasn't working - but the hot water was... and were asked if we were happy with that as a refund cannot be given once we have Check-In.
We asked to see the room, to gauge the temperature in the room, before deciding. My partner is fine with the cold. I am not and wouldn't be able to sleep if it is cold.
We were taken to the room to gauge the temperature.
Enroute through the corridors, we were greeted with the smell of tobacco and weed. Not very pleasant, appealing, nor inviting.
Our room was an end room. It was cold. I wouldn't of been able to sleep in that temperature.
We were offered a 4-poster bed room instead. I am not sure why the 4-poster bed was mentioned, when it was the room temperature and no heating, that was the issue.
We viewed the \"4-poster bed\" room. It was a middle room and as soon as we walked into the room, we could feel that it was slightly warmer in there.
We accepted this double room.

The bed was clean and the mattress was nice and firm.There were only 2, fairly flat, pillows.

Clean shower towels provided.

In the bathroom - the ceiling was moldy, as was the bottom of the shower curtain.
There was a tiny, single-use complementary bottle of shampoo and conditioner. Only 1, for 2 people. No hand soap.

Slept fine but wouldn't go back there in a hurry.
Much room for improvement.

Avoid at All Costs – Absolutely Awful Experience

Our stay at the Buckatree Hotel was nothing short of a nightmare. From the moment we walked in, it felt like stepping into a time warp—straight back to the early 2000s, and not in a good way. The entire building is severely outdated, with damaged doors lining the corridors and wallpaper peeling from nearly every wall. It honestly felt like the place hadn’t seen a proper renovation in decades.

We booked a family room, but the moment we stepped inside we were hit with a strong smell of damp. Water marks were clearly visible on the walls, and the room looked like it had been thrown together with whatever furniture was left in a clearance sale—nothing matched and everything looked tired and worn.

Now for the beds... if you can call them that. We would’ve had a better night’s sleep on a park bench. Lumpy, uncomfortable, and clearly long past their use-by date.

Worst of all, the room was freezing during the night. Both of our kids were shivering and miserable, and there was no way to heat the room. It was honestly heartbreaking watching them try to sleep through the cold.

We were supposed to stay for two nights but checked out first thing the next morning. It was that bad. I wouldn’t let my worst enemy spend a night here. They advertise this place as a 3-star hotel, but in reality, it should be condemned.

Absolutely avoid—this place needs a serious overhaul or shutting down completely.

Brilliant place to lay your head for 2/3 nights

I loved it here. The staff were brilliant and very friendly. I will defo be booking again. Wanted to stay next week but they are fully booked. Will definitely be there again really soon.

The location is perfect if you love scenery and the tranquil atmosphere is second to none. My 4 yr old also loved it here.

Great leave if you have a pet too. The walks are fantastic. With breath taking views.

You get what you pay for. It’s cheap and cheerful so no point in complain about the decor etc if you book here. Makes no sense in my opinion.

A good hotel for a good price.
The hotel staff were friendly and solved our problems quickly and easily.
Rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable!
Would have liked the restaurant to be open or room service, but this was not available so we had to get a food delivery. Breakfast, however, was well priced and had a good selection.
Gym was also closed.

Location was beautiful - our room over looked the lake and was lovely to sit and have a coffee on the balcony.

Would consider booking again when I am next in the area.

returning to the hotel on 2nd night the room had not been cleaned. The reception said you had to request this and you should have been told when you arrived. Although the room was clean and a great view the TV system is complex and a gave up. I would have phone reception but the phone in the room did not get reception when button pressed

Would not recommend - Very dirty shower curtain disgusting . Towels we only had one large and a hand towel . Pillows were very thin . room really odd the wallpaper was horrid each panel had strips of glue showing so the overall room looked unkept . We were not brave enough to stay for breakfast the low price does reflect the standards . could easily be so much better The staff were friendly

Overnight stay

The hotel is very tired and has been neglected during the last year. Our twin room was clean and everything was okay. They do not provide meals, just a continental breakfast at £6-50.
Alright for one night at the price, but probably wouldn't stay again.

Needs serious refurbishment

The first impression was good: seemed like a decent hotel, the room size was good, had a balcony that was facing the pond. Also, hood location for hikers.

However, when had a closer look, we realised that this hotel needed a serious refurbishment: a light didn’t work, a face mirror was missing, the carpets and curtains should get an upgrade. Also, they gave us one bottle of shower gal and one bottle of shampoo for two adults and one child. However, we could go to the reception to ask for replenishment.

Basically, the hotel has a potential to do well, but it seems that the management would rather spending minimal amount of money possible to ensure the basic function worked. I would be surprised if this hotel will last in the long run if this practice continues.

I did not like the Night Manager trying to enter my room with his pass key at 1:45am on Sunday morning!!!

This spooked me and spoilt my trip, resulting in a nasty case of delayed shock, including migraine and vomiting.

Fortunately before retiring I had taken the precaution of barricading the door with my musical instruments, overnight bags and a very noisy security device, which alerted me to the intruder.

I phoned the police at that time, who are very interested in this individual.

In spite of several requests, we had no glasses for water or tooth cleaning and only one hand towel between us. Needs complete overhaul as everything looks tired(carpets stained, bedside lampshades and lamps non matching, bath stained etc). Breakfast ok but water for tea luke warm.. Bedroom cramped.

Avoid, council closed kitchen down.

Poor condition, very rundown. Restaurant not operating as council have closed kitchen down, receptionist had no idea when it might reopen.
The bar is ‘open’ but they have no stock, only water, ice and wine.
Breakfast was packets of cereals. Room had very few amenities.
Nice views though.
Avoid this hotel. Although weirdly it looked to be full capacity with foreign visitors.

booked two day break , shocked to find out no food , and bar only serve wine . this hotel are still showing food menu on line now . this spoiled the whole point of having a break at this hotel. we’ve have been in hotels all over the world , this the only one we couldn’t get a meal , i think this is false advertising . very disappointing

The property is very tired with no hot food and no beer in the bar . room was dated and not very clean balcony looked like it needed a good cleaning
Overall a very disappointing stay
Shame as it could be a really nice hotel with a bit of care and attention. On a plus staff we’re all nice and friendly. Sadly would not book again and definitely not recommend.

We had 3 pillows in total for the 2 of us and these were flat as pancakes. No soap provided in bathroom. No hairdryer.
