We had an excellent stay at the Cromwell's Tap House. Check in was easy and the staff very helpful. The room was small but perfectly adequate with good storage space and a great shower. The bed was comfy and the room and pub itself have real character, being a timber framed building dating back 400 plus years. The location is excellent in the centre of town, but not too noisy. We enjoyed the Sunday lunch and accompanying cask ales very much. We stopped on a Sunday night, so it was very quiet when we arrived back at the pub and we had a good night's sleep. Very good value for money and we would stay again.

This was our second stay at Cromwells. It's a small traditional pub with rooms in a central location. We parked at the NCP which is five mins walk away. We had room 2, which is directly above the bar. There is bar noise in this room but no music playing during our Friday night stay, so not too bad. The room is, dated and small but adequate. The beds here are beautiful old wooden beds which add an historic touch to the stay. We didn't dine here so can't review that. The price we paid was very reasonable for a Friday night, which was £67. We would stay again

Room and bedding were generally clean and comfortable - at the level expected for a three star property. It was a bit unfortunate that I needed to get early nights ahead of work days and my room seemed to be directly above the bar. I was otherwise happy with the quality of the accommodation. As another reviewer has said, this is an old property - the fact that it's a bit worn is just part and parcel. However, if you're someone with accessibility issues then it would be unsuitable (e.g. uneven floors, stairs only, not super roomy).

Our only issue was it could do with better curtains or blackout blinds for the street lights. Very weedy hairdryer and minimal toiletries, so bring your own. Incredible shower in which to use the minimal toiletries though!

Excellent staff, very polite and helpful. Situated right in the centre of Shrewsbury so ideally placed. Our room was compact, but had everything that we needed and it was clean and tidy. The only downside was the heat of the rooms, meaning we needed to have windows open on a busy road. There was a fan in our room. The room was noisy but being directly above a pub was what we expected, plus probably hard to insulate for this in a building of that age! Overall, good value for money and well positioned for a weekend away.

Straight forward instructions of how to check in, the staff were friendly and helpful of how to access the hotel room and out the building. Lovely little room with a lovely window view outside, spotless with some tea and coffee treats. Convenient in the middle of town too.

The room wa clean and comfortable. The staff are brilliant. There were a couple of 'issues' when we arrived. TWe couldn't get the bedside lights to work and the radiator was very noisy and not heating. We mentioned this to the staff and both issues were sorted straight away (the fuse switch on the wall had been turned off, hence the lights not working and th radiator had an airlock and needed to be bled).There is some noise from the bar below but this ends when the bar closes at 10.30 and then all is quiet.
The food in the bar is delicious and you get a discount on food and drink if you are staying upstairs!

The website is completely misleading and does not warn you about the LOUD BLARING MUSIC that you are literally on top of. There is absolutely NO SOUNDPROOFING as it is a grade 2 listed building and not allowed, the music is BOOMING in the rooms until past midnight which are directly above the bar.

Bar well stocked. Efficient checking in. Staff all friendly and helpful. On entrance room looked OK however after spending a few hrs there it was evident we had chosen poorly. Carpet was filthy furnishings disgraceful covered with throws to hide stains. Worst part was the bed. The worst three nights sleep we have ever had. Mattress needs condemning and we both woke in pain with our backs. Bathroom adequate. Shower tray had no safety mat. This should be looked at. No fan and bathroom mirror not working. We would add none of this is due to poor staff cleaning as they cannot be responsible for poor furniture and fittings. On discussing whether we should complain we decided against it as we had booked a superior room so it seemed pointless! Furthermore entry and exit door cannot be opened fully and kept sticking. In an emergency this could be fatal. Comments made to encourage owners to improve accommodation. Spend an evening in room 5 and see how you get on. We won't be returning. Very disappointing stay.

It's exactly what the site states, it's an old pub/ building. Be prepared for the sponginess of the floors, windows don't open (fire hazard) and the very poor quality renovation work. The WiFi didn't work while we were there, very inconvenient.That being said, it's in a convenient location and a good price. The bed was comfortable and the staff were nice.

Our room was clean and comfortable. There was plenty of hot water and the towels were large and soft (I hate trying to get dried in the morning with a towel the size of a face flannel that has the texture of sandpaper). The staff are excellent, really friendly and helpful (it has been a while since I have booked into a hotel and a member of staff has shown me to the room and carried my suitcase).
The rooms are upstairs above a pub. This means stairs and some noise. It is a really old building with plenty of character which means creaky stairs and corridor and limited soundproofing. However, after closing time(11pm) there is no noise. We had a 'larger' room with a fourposter bed. The room was on the small side but there was room enough to walk around the bed and there was chest of drawers, wardrobe etc. Once again it is an old building so this can be expected.
The location is great. Within walking distance of the railway station and all the shops, bars, restaurants, tourist sights. We had our evening meal downstairs in the bar and it was delicious.
All of this for the price is a no-brainer. We will definitely be returning.

Huge, comfortable four-poster bed in a less than huge room with a markedly sloping floor - definitely uphill from one corner to the other. Bear in mind this is basically a pub with rooms, so expect to hear noise and piped music from the bar and chatter from the beer garden outside the window. They didn't make up the room or give us clean cups (but did top up the tea and coffee). The bathroom extractor fan didn't work.

The room we were assigned (No 3) doesn't appear on their website. It is very very small with no facilities. The bathroom is even smaller and you have to stand outside it to dry yourself. The mattress is old. You can hear everything in the next room from the bathroom and road noise wakes you up very early. Not worth the room price but the pub and food side is nice.

Rang ahead as arriving earlier than expected. Was told can drop off bags, we did and they said pop back room will be ready in 25 mins. Staff very helpful.
Bar serves craft beers and ales. Separate dining room looked very nice. Our room was bright and clean. Bathroom good size, lovely towels and good shower. Rear terrace of pub in the sun in the afternoon.
Negatives, rooms are small with limited hanging space. Ours was very warm and windows we found difficult to open. Plus it is on a main road through town. Bring ear plugs and all will be good.

The room was above a pub. Looked lovely but sound insulation was terrible. All of the music leaked into my room.
I asked when the music would stop and I was told 11pm. When it I asked it they could turn it down they did but I could still here it.
The staff were clearing up and cleaning the lines with the bass and drums from their turned down music leaking into my room. By 11.30 I asked them to turn it off and they did. But I still could not sleep. The corridor was strongly lit and the gaps in my door were so big it all leaked into my room.
Great looking place, but if you have sensitivity to noise or light, I would avoid

Comfortable bed,we stayed in the king size room. Plenty of tea,coffee etc. Clean. Its an old building so yes its slopes,creeks but stay in a premium inn if you dont like that sort of thing.
I did book a table and request for the dinning room,but was told there was nothing in the book to say that. When we looked at the menu,there was nothing we wanted. The couple by us had food and it looked ok.
Staff pleasant but could do with recognising who is staying with them.
All in all very pleasant, good location.

Stayed here for 1 night. The staff greeted us on arrival and check-in was swift and easy. We were shown to our room and all instructions given.
There was a music event on all day which was a fantastic surprise. The atmosphere was brilliant.
The food was fantastic on both days. Especially the Sunday roast which was cooked to perfection with the best gravy I have ever tasted.
All of the staff were hard working, attentive and polite. But a special thanks to Nick and Ella who were especially helpful.
We would definitely recommend Cromwells Tap House for a stay. We will definitely be back.

Good tea & coffee and room serviced daily if requested. Imagine room would get very hot in summer but fan provided.
