The restaurant is fine but the bar and lounge area rather let down by clashing neo-classical furniture which wasn't particularly comfortable. The decor in the 20th century extension is tired and sound insulation in the rooms is poor.

The WiFi internet in the hotel is not very good with filtering for example Amazon app dosent work and Mobile phone coverage in the area is very weak

Fabulous period property with so much charm. There were only a handful of people staying, including me, which made for a very peaceful stay. I slept well, and the rooms had great amenities. I would say the rooms felt dated, but this adds to the charm of the property.
The evening food was fantastic, and there was a good selection of drinks available.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Check-in and out was a breeze, and gave me a great history of the property, an overview of the surroundings, and all the information I needed without having to ask.
Would certainly recommend this place.

1st visit and won't be my last.

First visit to this Hotel and I must say how delited I was with the degree of professionalism combined with a friendly genuine welcome from the moment I arrived to leaving.
Standard of accommodation was terrific with an emphasis on attention to detail.
Would highly recommend the full English breakfast.
I'll definitely add this hotel to my favourites list. 10/10

Beautiful old hotel in the countryside. Surrounded by fields and a lovely walk to Battlefield farm shop.
Very close to Shrewsbury town centre. We parked at Battlefield park and ride which was really convenient.
Stayed at the hotel for a private party. Function tool was lovely.

Wheres the switch?

Okay, so Shrewsbury is not the easiest place to stay on a budget. At the time of booking perversely, the Albright Hussey was over a hundred pounds cheaper over the two nights than a Premier Inn or Travelshed. The room i was is was quirky, there were 2 single beds and the bathroom was bigger than the bedroom. Getting back late in tge evening, the main room lightswitch is at the bottom of the stairs that go up to the bedroom, when you get upstairs, theres no switch to turn off the main light, so you have to go back down the stairs, turn off the light, then use the torch function to go back up to bed. The towel rail fell off the wall in the bathroom, (Wrong rawlplugs for a plasterboard wall and too short screws) and the foot fell off the corby trouser press when i moved it to get the to the plugs behind. The bathroom was straight out of Versaille. As i say, quirky.

Good hotel close to Shrewsbury

Lovely place, very friendly staff, very clean, loads of hot water and nice coffee/tea facilities in room and good range of bathroom products.
Falls down on not always being able to serve guests with dinner due to functions being held there and breakfast is only served and full breakfast at weekends, otherwise it’s a help yourself continental.

A fabulous historic hotel set in glorious Shropshire countryside. Staff were very attentive and friendly, both to us and our dog! Lovely bedroom with lots of extras. Only disappointment was not being able to eat there on either night of our stay due to functions.

A lovely place to stay, clean and friendly. Disappointed with the breakfast which was a brown paper bag filled with cereal type bars and croissants. Yoghurt and pots of porridge were available. Apparently a cooked breakfast is only served at weekends. It said on the website that the hotel was located 1.6 miles from Shrewsbury town but it was approx 3 miles. A £10 taxi ride into town for tea.

Absolutely fantastic..Lovely accommodation in a super location..Really friendly and helpful staff..One kind lady even helped my wife order food as the venue couldn’t provide food due to wedding reception taking place. This was clearly stated to us prior to arrival and the staff were more than happy to recommend alternative food establishments in the area..please don’t let the fact it’s a wedding venue put you off staying. We were not disturbed by it in the slightest. Can’t recommend highly enough and can’t wait to stay again.

The room simply was not worth the money. When I booked I searched for Shrewsbury town centre. Other hotels came up with a distance from the centre. This said ‘Shrewsbury’ so I thought it was the centre. In fact it was out of town with no nearby amenities. They texted after booking to say they were not serving food that night. Out of town but not serving food when they advertise a restaurant? Taxi to the restaurant they recommended, which was nothing special and had already stopped serving. They kindly offered to make up a sandwich, which is more than was on offer at the hotel. In the morning, you could buy a takeaway bag of food (dried cereal, breakfast bar that sort of stuff). I get the impression that if you are there for a wedding it is great, but outside of that they are charging high end rates for little more than a B&B.

Beautiful outside, shame about the inside!!

So disappointed. Our room was filthy, the carpet was damp, there was grime in the sink, cobwebs everywhere. It's not right to want to come home and shower after a night away because the room made you feel dirty. We stayed in the \"most\" luxurious room, the mattress was so uncomfortable and the walls paper thin could hear other guests!!! I understand it's 'Tudor' that is no excuse for how filthy the room was. It hasn't been thoroughly cleaned for a while. I love period rooms and have stayed in many beautiful places. This was not one of them. It needs a very big facelift or prices of rooms need to be dropped dramatically.
We will not be back!!

Had to let ourselves in, no staff to be seen. Room was small but clean and well equipped. Kettle, coffee (instant coffee, tea bags, only one hot chocolate sachet, and two filter coffee one cup pods) Bathroom was pleasent and towels were soft and white, good quality toiletries provided. Shower screen leaked on the floor.
Decore was dated in colour, beige and cream. Bed was firm. Only real complaint was the bedroom curtains which were not black-out lined so had trouble sleeping from about 5.00am.

The location of Albright Hussey Manor Hotel is ideal as a base for visiting Shrewsbury and the local area. It's very close to one of the park and ride facilities. The beautiful scenery around the hotel and the fact that it is set back about half a mile from the A528 as well as the impressive historic buildings that form part of the hotel, make this an idyllic and peaceful spot. The grounds are beautiful, enhanced by the residence of a pair of black swans on the moat-like pond in front of the ancient buildings. There is a lawn, complete with open-sided marquee, and accessories ready and waiting for wedding parties. Our accommodation, set in a (1980's?) Block was disappointing in that it was feeling a little tired, still in 1980s mode. An attempt had been made to update with new curtains and scatter cushions. Traditional bedroom furniture was quality made and well cared for. The tea and coffee making facilities were adequate although located in thenwardrobe where it was difficult to get sufficient light to see what one was doing. Although understandable, due to Covid, it was disappointing that room service was not offered and that we weren't advised of this fact on arrival, nor how we might obtain replacement supplies. For the same reason, and staff shortages, there was no breakfast or dinner available during our stay; again, disappointing but that meant we were able to explore other alternatives in the area.

A disappointing stay

The hotel looks lovely from the outside, we checked in staff not over friendly but she was efficient. The room was clean overall but a large spider in the light fitting and a few live ones in room i know this is not hotels fault but i feel rooms should be checked before guests arrival. The breakfast was served on a cold plate and the food was cold, it was mentioned to staff and they did not charge us for one of our breakfasts but i found the cost of £15 per guest rather expensive for what it was

A lovely historic hotel, but we felt it was a bit tired. Our room was small, wall paper was hanging off the window area, the grouting in the shower had mould on it and also along the shower tray. There was no servicing of our room, due to Covid they said, but for three days this is not very good as coffee, water etc. is not renewed. The hotel really caters for weddings to the detriment of other guests. Not my best experience in 80 years!

1. Automated entry. The keypad was located so low i had to bend down to see the numerals and then i was looking through the wrong part of my bifocals. It took several attempts to get it right - had it been raining i would have been seriously hacked off.
2. Lack of menus or choice. We were expected to ear what was on offer. Since my guest did not eat meat she ended up with a very forgettable omelette. This should have been made clear on booking. No starters or dessert was offered, nor was a wine list.
3. I drank a whiskey and dry ginger. When i asked foir a second my glass was taken away although there was still some drink remaining. When it was returned it was obvious that not all the dry ginger had been poured into the glass.
4. Continental breakfast. Again, no choice. Should have been made clear on booking. And i have spent time abroad - if that was a continental breakfast i wonder which continent !
5. Unable to get drink at bar after dinner - staff all watching football on tv in the public lounge.

Sorry to be negative but overall was a very disappointing visit which was a shame because the buildings and general appearance were quite impressive.

Manipulated by the UK Government to holiday 'at home' this year, this place was an emphatic reminder of why we should never again have to stay in an English hotel.

Our room - a suite on the top floor - was spacious, elegant, and beautifully decorated. It overlooked a well-kept garden, and river, complete with resident black swans.

And that was it.

The basis was there for a great experience.

Except that there was no heart or soul to the place.

The receptionists are turned away from you, facing computer screens, and are busy with administration, so you feel you are an interruption to their busy schedule. There is a hurried interaction, but no warmth.

It is made clear that you will probably struggle to be provided with the opportunity to book an evening meal.

Furthermore, it should be made clear at the point of booking that breakfast at this historic house - with its stately home veneer - is literally breakfast in a bag, collected from reception.

That's right.

You bring cups down to reception from your room, view the bags containing plastic wrapped items such as croissant, and bottle of orange juice, hear the receptionist arriving outside to unlock the reception door, and fill the kettle for you to make your coffee from a nescafe sachet, and 'cup a soup' porridge.

Very incongruous.

Another mask-less staff member arrives, and begins coughing.

We hurriedly take our breakfast bags outside.

Oh, and the wi-fi connection in our room was impossible to maintain.

Very welcoming! Took our dog with us and offered us dog bowl, bed etc although we had brought our own. Bed was very comfortable. Decor was dated in our room but in keeping with the age of the original part of the building. Breakfast was excellent. COVID precautions taken at all times. Malcolm ( I think that was his name) was very endearing. An asset to the place. Would definitely stay again

If we chose to come to Shrewsbury again, Albright Hussey Manor would be our number 1 choice to stay. Taxis are very reasonable to go into the town if you’d like to have a drink.

Reception was very good, informative on arrival about the facilities of the hotel.
Our dissatisfaction would be on the dinner/staff. We ordered the Chateaubriand for 2, medium rare but it came as well done, but it was flavoursome. We felt the restaurant staff could have been more amenable. It seems they had forgotten to put our dinner on our bill which then in the morning at check out, there was confusion and a delay in our departure.

First the good points, the bar and restaurant staff were very nice and the food was good though menu was limited if you are vegetarian. With that in mind they did offer to make an alternative if the one choice on the menu wasn't suitable.
The bad points - this is a wedding hotel where large bookings take precedence over couples and small groups. On arrival we were kept waiting 10mins while the receptionist pitched a wedding offer over the phone. The same happened on leaving. We paid for an expensive room, yet it had some serious problems. It is the middle of summer yet all the windows were screwed shut leaving us in a warm musty room. The worst problem was the sound proofing between rooms meant we could hear every detail, including what went on in next door's bathroom and the noise of wedding guests arguing in the corridor at 2:00AM.
